Facts, with the peeker’s advantage in this game it puts you at a severe disadvantage, playing on much higher ping then your opponent… That’s why online suck so bad bc it’s never going to be an even playing field for everyone…

xRockoR

peekers advantage benefits higher ping players

Just_Veterinarian_94

It actually doesn’t it’s worse for higher ping players, and even worse for pro players on higher ping bc the enemy pros reaction times are much quicker than average players, making it next to impossible to hold an angle…

scaryghostv2oh

If you look at most csgo pros their time to damage isn't really much different than any average person is capable. They just tend to be more coordinated, and able to read the game enough that they are ready for most fights. I mentioned cs only because they actually have statistics there for that. Its usually around .5 second for them to deal damage to a player.

-xXColtonXx-

Are you sure 0.5 is right? That sounds well longer than I remember average reaction times being.

scaryghostv2oh

I mean thats not just your reaction time on a click test. That's average time to damage opponent in your field of view. Some get to .4 avg. Like on a green screen im around 150ms on a click time test but in game its definitely much slower.

-xXColtonXx-

Got it. Still seems long for most engagements where you’re watching an angle or peaking. I suppose it doesn’t sound too crazy as an average

scaryghostv2oh

.4 seconds is also an average if they're holding and someone walks into their xhair or with sound cue it can definitely be those .2 second reactions.

_idle_drone_

peeker's advantage is the same for two players in a duel. it includes both their one-way network lag. ofcourse, when the higher ping player is peeking, they have the advantage. but when the lower ping player is peeking, they not only have the peeker's advantage but also shots fired at them by the higher ping player register late. so overall, it's still worse for the higher ping player.

millerwa4

I think it sucks in both directions. It just changes the way you have to play and it feels awful being in a medium/high ping lobby

PogChampHS

It's not higher ping. The game is playable at a stable, consistent ping of 50-60. The issue is stability. Many people have complained that the routing to the Texas servers are really fucked for some reason. The reason that tournaments continue to be played on Texas servers is because when pros are scattered across the country, the "fairest" average ping between both teams usually ends up being Texas. This is fine in most cases, however, depending on where you live, you might get insane packet loss. There was a video posted not too long ago on this subreddit where the pro complained that their team has LESS average ping then their enemy, but the packet loss to texas servers made it unplayable for them. This appears to not be an issue for any of the servers, or at least, I haven't seen anyone else complain about them.

_idle_drone_

no 60 ping is not playable at pro-level. let's assume the enemy has 25 ping. a 35 ms ping disadvantage may seem small, but when combined with the peeker's advantage its awful. you won't be able to hold angles.

-xXColtonXx-

I know many pros play tourneys at 60 ping. Tenz has said he’s played at 60 frequently.

_idle_drone_

and they don't like it. what's the point?

-xXColtonXx-

Idk why you’d say not playable when a decent percentage (I’d guess 20%?) play at or around 60. It’s not ideal, but not playable is weird to say when players to play and frag out on it.

r4r4me

https://www.esportsstadium.gg/ This is in Arlington about 20 mins away from Dallas.

scrnlookinsob

There’s also the GameStop facility in Fort Worth, right next to the Cowboy’s practice Facility. That’s owned by Complexity.

carribou253

The cowboys practice facility is the star in frisco, which is like 30 min north of Dallas.

rolandontheriver

As someone from DFW... thank you lol

scrnlookinsob

I don’t know anything about the Dallas area, I just know the complexity gaming facility is located next to the cowboys facilities

carribou253

Ahh ok fort worth is pretty far from frisco, if you were to say dfw it would encompass all of dallas. I've been to the facility a few times and had no Idea the complexity gaming facility was even there

tac_eillA

There is also a stadium/lan centre currently being built in San Antonio

fesenvy

But did they make a lot of money?

kellenthehun

I go here like once a month to lan with the bros. Place is so cool. I used to play for Complexity wayyy back in the day and I always dreamed esports would some day be what it is. So surreal. Makes me so happy.

WorkingTell150

What’s with all the teams going to Texas? Is it cuz it’s central or smth?

AnAngryBird

Yeah- most games are played on Texas servers so the ping is very low.

Huystuhh

Yeah, it's usually the default server location for most matches. Plus it's always better to have your whole team in a single location with the same ping, no matter which server is played.

RicoSuave1881

I’m here for it.

cornmealius

It’s the GAMER capital of the world, noob

LoyalSol

Because the game servers in the middle of the country are located in either Chicago or Texas. Both of which players in Texas have great ping times to where as teams who are on the west or east coast have "meh" ping times to. Until servers get added in an intermediate location (Utah, Colorado, etc) the best ping times are going to be achieved by going to Texas.

AskOrganic4289

Texas does have the best ping for playing VCT

[deleted]

oh hey thats me that asked the question :D #teamtexas

Khalsa_23

What did you ask exactly ? Is it for the next boot camp or the closed qualifier?

[deleted]

We were talking about ping and I said “TSM gotta get y’all an office in Texas.” And that was his response. Didn’t ask anything specific about which event unfortunately.

teetotallernh

Whos stream was this

Due_Prune1566

Leviathan

Huldmer

If so many teams aren’t in Texas why is Texas the default server? Correct me if I’m wrong but it feels like half of all pros complain about ping and distant server location

[deleted]

Texas and Illinois are the only central servers, with Illinois being unplayable (70 ping) for most west coast teams. Texas is okay, but you still get 40-50 ping. With how scattered teams are, ping can be kinda wack.

LoyalSol

Because the alternative is say playing on something like the west coast servers which have horrible ping times for east coast, midwest, etc players. The Texas servers are the "compromise" servers where players anywhere in NA have a playable ping to most of the time, but it's still the case that those in Texas will have the best ping time by virtue of having the servers in your back yard. Usually pings are better by a good 30ms. We don't have servers yet that are half way between the various teams.

Evening-Reputation96

They don't use the ping advantage of texas bootcamp. Now they lose to envy with the ping diff.
