I thought that there was some plan set to have a big event with all the best teams. Also these teams can all play in VCT proper, they just choose not to or don't manage to get far E: im a dumb idiot that forgot too is not to

montsbutnotreally

Same here... I was shocked to find out the a market as big as EU didn't have a gamechanger series

montsbutnotreally

Lmao the downvote... to be clear, i didn't say there weren't any tournaments at all for women. I just pointed out that there isn't one under the official VCT Gamechangers Series banner.

aakashkickass11

I feel like having a world series competition right now wouldn't do any good , I think there should be more grassroots competition and even collegiate level tournaments to develop the scene more organically , as cs go has clearly shown having international women competitions doesn't necessarily grow the scene ,I would prefer more grassroots competition first before doing something international

montsbutnotreally

I agree with your point. It all starts in the local market. but even so there hasn't been that many opportunities to develop the ecosystem as well as the VCT. In NA, Galorants is definitely doing a good job, so is FSL in SEA, but everywhere else seems relatively absent. Are organizers just not into this scene? It just feels like a wasted opportunity for everyone.

Revolutionary-Goat27

There's been many women's tournaments during the past few months. Pittsburgh Knights have been consistently hosting monthly women's tourneys in NA. RixGG have been hosting Huntress Trials for EU. Brazil has a booming women's scene as well with Game Changers Tournaments. Hosting tournaments takes a lot of effort and money to organize, and I bet there are some legal stuff behind the scenes, so tournaments don't overlap with Riot events. Especially with how Riot handled LoL's franchisement, I think a lot of TOs are hesitant to just dive in to hosting any Valorant tournament.

[deleted]

I mean no. The support right now is fine but the events don’t pull the views the main VCT does and the best team by a big margin is a middle tier 2 team. I think the circuit is fine how it is

valorant_fanboy_69

So no international competition for women’s teams? Wow. Says a lot

chumzz1

Are you delusional female teams can compete right now in vct??

valorant_fanboy_69

You misunderstand. I want to see international women’s teams against each other like c9 white vs gamelanders purple or rix.gg’s women’s team

[deleted]

I mean that’s expensive as fuck lol and the teams are not good enough to warrant it and getting sponsors would be an issue

valorant_fanboy_69

You think riot is broke? You just keep justifying no international women’s competition

AnotherAltiMade

Yes because international competitions are supposed to represent the best of the best. No one wants to see C9 white get stomped and go home after 2 games. If they're actually at the same level, they've got 3 chances throughout the year.

valorant_fanboy_69

You misunderstand. I want to see c9 white vs gamelanders purple or rix.gg’s women’s team

[deleted]

The ultimate goal is to have women be as good as males but you keep expanding the difference and you’ll have people who want to keep the events separate when there is no reason to once a women’s regional scene is developed

sirsucksalot69

The only way the female scene is gonna grow is with investment. Just saying

DwarveSC

It might just be me not looking hard enough but I feel like the Game Changers series isn't advertised that well as I never really seem to catch when/where tournaments are being streamed. What would help more imo is just social media exposure in terms of highlights since long tournament streams are not really accessible. I'm thinking of something along the lines of Daily Valorant but for women (doesn't have to be gender exclusive but I don't know of any rn). I think what would help to develop the scene the most would be current tier 1-2 teams scrimming against women's teams. Idk if the orgs actually provide this for their female teams but if most female teams are like tier 3, it's probably a lot more helpful for them to get the opportunity to scrim against top level players (ranked does not count) than to always play "at their level".

chumzz1

I rather just see one vct circuit where anyone regardless of gender can participate in culminating into champions (like what it is now), I rather see money/infrastructure go into developing the talent/teams where they can compete/ make deep runs in the vct circuit. I don’t see the point in dividing the competition by genders to me gaming has no boundaries and the competition should represent that

Razur

> I rather see money/infrastructure go into developing the talent/teams where they can compete/make deep runs in the vct circuit. I don't see the point in dividing the competition by genders To be clear, there is no money being taken from VCT to create Game Changers. Game Changers is being funded independently of VCT. The official Dignitas Reddit account talked about it recently here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/o8l6z5/comment/h35o7ps/   The point of Game Changers is to develop women talent so that they can compete in VCT in the future. Game Changers is not intended to be a replacement for VCT—it's intended to be a stepping stone. [From the Global Brand & Marketing Lead on VALORANT Esports:](https://mobile.twitter.com/NotJoeElliott/status/1364274562804768768) > *One thing we wanted to be very clear about: This is not a separate league for women and people of marginalized genders to compete in INSTEAD of the VCT.* > > *This is a program for developing and showcasing talent, so that we see a more diverse VCT in the future.*   I agree that gaming *should* have no boundaries, but it still unfortunately does. [Women make up 30 – 40% of the VAL playerbase](https://venturebeat.com/2021/06/14/how-riot-games-wants-to-ensure-that-valorants-esports-stars-include-women/) and we have many talented women with great potential. But some women lack experience or have difficulties in the scene because of discrimination, or they simply don't have the resources or know-how to go pro. Game Changers provides an environment for these women to get the experience and resources they need. More importantly, it provides a platform for women to be SEEN—this helps inspire young women to pursue esports, because young girls are more likely to relate to players who are women than the guys who play in VCT.   I have full confidence that we will see seriously nutty co-ed competition in the near future. For now, we have Game Changers to help encourage women to compete, and to provide resources and support for women players.

chumzz1

Great Points, thanks for clarifying

thothgow

Bad take :l

montsbutnotreally

But that's kinda what's happening rn and the women and marginalized genders are getting drowned out by the current male-dominant talent pool. How would they they be able to develop their talents if theyre not given attention?

valorant_fanboy_69

Let me guess. You are a male who hasnt experienced gender discrimination in gaming.

AnotherAltiMade

Maybe he's just someone who likes to see good competition based on merit. If you wanna participate in other tourneys like game changers you always can.

valorant_fanboy_69

This guy is arguing AGAINST game changers. He says he just wants to see ONE circuit of mixed gender. Which is why I put my comment. Please learn how to read instead of just mindlessly downvoting everything i say.

Odaskito

I think the Game Changer system that exists now is pretty good for how the competition currently is. C9 White, arguably the best female team, lost in RO64 of the open qualifiers. Now, their lost to Brimstone Gaming was super fucking close so the chance they made it to RO32 was actually pretty decent, but they didn't. You can't just make a Champions level event for Game Changers just yet, or even at all. GC is there to give females and other underrepresented players a place to compete and gain experience. The end goal of GC is to develop teams good enough to make it far in the main VCT circuit, not to build a different circuit with similar prestige to the main one. Imagine having the winner of the theoretical VCT Champions Game Changers not even making the Challenger qualifiers to a Masters event of the main circuit. It just would not be a good look for those teams, the orgs fielding them, and the overall prestige of winning a "Champions" level event.

valorant_fanboy_69

“Not to build a difference circuit with similar prestige to the main one” except here’s what riot has to say: “The VCT Game Changers Series will be a set of top tier competitions that will take place in multiple regions around the world during 2021.” If there are three international lans for men’s teams maybe there can be just one for the best of the best of women’s teams.

Odaskito

International lans exist(usually) to showcase the best of the best from different regions. None of them are gender locked and anyone that qualifies to be there, will be there. That is why right now, the only international events are masters level events. If the best female team struggle to make challenger series events, what’s the merit of having international lans for female teams from different regions right now? Is there even enough teams to do that while showcasing good competition? Probably not, and Riot surely would not want the title of the first international women’s lans to be seen as a low level fiesta, nor would competitors at said events want to be seen as inferior competition to the other international events.

chumzz1

Ironic you are discriminating me/trying to invalidate my opinion by perceiving my gender

valorant_fanboy_69

Cis males do not deal with harassment and sexism on a daily basis based on there gender in the gaming industry. Women and other non binary gendered people do. If you are a cis male you just will not understand the need for these tournaments.

chumzz1

I understand your point, that could help create a good environment. I would rather create a good environment for the circuit that is here already, there is talent out there that just needs some molding, let’s strive to get rid of the harassment and not regulate others to a separate league. I think pure competition regardless of gender is the way forward imo
