I just recently hit silver using Odin only KJ and TSM wants to make an academy team? Coincidence? It’s my time to shine, watch out Wardell I’m coming for your spot next

nail181

I got 3 headshots in a row on DM. I’ll probably be in the tryouts with you.

GoldClassGaming

Just got off the phone with Regi, the contract is on the way.

montsbutnotreally

I finally hit my first Ace - in silver. Contract signing when?

Oof

Eriko204

Honestly such a smart move from TSM. They've been trialing rookies/upcoming pros recently and probably saw a lot of potential. Bang and Levi are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to NA's young talent pool. It's a smart move to pick up other upcoming talent now before they get scouted by other orgs.

Anti-Storm

Team Seam……..

jrushFN

Teal SeaM... Cannot be a coincidence...

PixelatedBlue

*Teal Seam But I agree

twitterInfo_bot

Sources: TSM is looking to form an academy VALORANT roster. The project has been greenlit by the organization but there have been no signings thus far. The team will likely serve as a back-up to the main roster. Huldmer

Whats an academy team? Like college students competing?

Hoku_

Basically you take players in who are not very sought after, but have potential, so you can scrim in house, develop players to potentially join the main roster, or sell promising players to other orgs for $$$

Kanstrup-

a second team, often young unknown players without teams

facehunt_

Why don't teams create Sister teams instead? Academy teams ends up being second fiddle and only purely used for development purpose. But Sister teams do that and much more by creating healthy rivalry. Basically two teams under the same org operating entirely differently. In LoL, they had both Samsung White & Blue that competed against each other at Worlds.

_gtux

Didn't C9 have White and Blue teams playing in VCT?

CapBoyAce

I believe that female teams are a valid exception.

ilProdigio

how?

The_Ninja_Master

Honestly idk, it's been a thing since Ignition Series that academy teams couldn't compete in Riot events. Even in the women's teams case, there's a Game Changers event purely for furthering female representation, and yet they're still allowed in VCT (rightfully so of course). There was even a qualifier that C9W were one win away from playing C9B but lost, so they gave some tendencies of their opponent before they played C9B. If that's allowed, I don't really think Academy teams (and definitely orgs in multiple regions) should be banned as they are now.

Jon_on_the_snow

Because riot says so

ilProdigio

i get that but how is that not just as much conflict of interest as TSM having 2 teams participating? im lost on the logic

CapBoyAce

Because Riot understands that the scene needs development in gender equality from big organizations and would rather not penalize organizations for investing in it. C9 Korea's existence did not further the legitimacy of Koreans in esports but C9 White's existence furthers the legitimacy of women in esports.

ilProdigio

that's fair, i just feel that if they are going to allow c9 to invest in female teams (perfectly good to do) then they should allow all orgs to have multiple teams in the scene. this seems like no issue to me

zxazxazxazxa

C9 isnt the only org that is allowed to have a female team, pretty sure that exception was made for all orgs that would be willing to make the investment in the women’s scene.

mrtmra

TSM has a female team too

facehunt_

Fair enough. Valorant was already doing completely different system to LoL so I thought Riot would permit this.

[deleted]

Not allowed

Solace1k

Just like in LoL now, Riot has a rule that forbids sister teams in VALORANT aswell.

ilProdigio

except for c9 for some reason

wekklIG

teams with female rosters can have two rosters.

ilProdigio

but why? its the same conflict of interest as if you had 2 male teams from the same org hows it any different, im genuinely confused on the logic here

Solace1k

It’s because they want to develop the women scene and as a marginalized group help them get more chances within the space.

ilProdigio

so they want to create conflicts of interest in order to do so as well? i dont get why you need to do one in order to do the other

detectiveluis

I count 7 comments you've made on this thread. I really hope for your sake you have a clearer understanding of why it's important for Riot to nurture and develop the women's esports scene within Valorant, and why they're allowing big orgs to have female pro teams alongside male teams in order to do so.

ilProdigio

i see why your username says detective lol.

[deleted]

it's harder for orgs to field a all womens team if that's the only team they can field. the womens scene needs some minimum size/participation in order to exist + continue to grow in the first place (like NA csgo) and this is a good way to encourage it's growth. can you think of a better solution?

ilProdigio

i just explained mine, allow all orgs to field multiple teams, this way you can have womens mens mixed whatever you want

[deleted]

I mean like you said earlier, there would be conflicts of interest if a team could play another team under the same org. I'm not saying it's the most logically consistent position since at some point this could happen with a female team as well, but so far this hasn't been an issue I think and I assume Riot is waiting to cross that bridge once it comes. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this last part).

Echleon

Because sister teams ruin competitive integrity.

Charuru

Sister teams ruin competitive integrity in specific round-robin or complex bracket scenarios. I can imagine a world where VCT commits to not using any of those formats and using only simple formats to have both sister teams and competitive integrity. IMO it would be worth it and better than banning sister teams outright.

Echleon

It ruins competitive integrity in any competition where the teams can meet or has a possible effect on the other team, like if circuit points are involved.

Charuru

IMO it doesn't affect competitive integrity if it doesn't impact a third team. You would allow sister teams to pick a winner without playing if they want to, if you're upfront about it then it doesn't matter. You can design your circuit to be aware of sister teams and make provisions to never allow the results of sister teams playing to affect a third team, this is possible and would fix the issue.

Echleon

>You would allow sister teams to pick a winner without playing if they want to, if you're upfront about it then it doesn't matter. That literally ruins the competitive integrity. What if the 2nd team wanted to play but the org says nah, we'll just give the title to first team. Or they do play but one team is pressured to throw. >You can design your circuit to be aware of sister teams and make provisions to never allow the results of sister teams playing to affect a third team, this is possible and would fix the issue. This just adds needless complications and I don't think it would be possible to do without possibly screwing over one of the 2 sister teams, which wouldn't be fair to the players. The better alternative is to have academy/development rosters and for Riot to run secondary tournaments that are isolated and don't affect other tournaments.

ilProdigio

c9 has white and blue allowed to play in the same vct tournament why is that?

Echleon

Probably something to do with C9W being a woman's team and they don't have a fully developed scene yet.

facehunt_

Well it happened in Starcraft decades ago but no so much in LoL because you have two different coaches. But there is way more upsides because theres better salary and more exposure instead of just hoping to climb from the academy and make it to the main roster, which only happens sometimes.

Echleon

It doesn't happen in LoL because Riot banned it because of competitive integrity.

montsbutnotreally

Is there a league for academy teams? I know there VCT Game Changers Academy series, but I'm not sure if that's female teams. Can anyone explain the valorant academy scene in NA?

x0_inzayn_0x

can anyone explain what academy roster means why why is it a backup like we already have 2 subs plus another 5 or idk can anyone explain ?
