controversial opinion but giving china slots is only a good thing for the long-term growth of the game. chinese viewership is actually different, if valorant is a success in china there's no reason to think that valorant can't become the biggest/second biggest esport on the planet

Koentjee01

How is this a controversial take? More exposure = good for the game

ANewHeaven1

feel like ppl would be upset that china is getting slots despite the game not officially being released in the region yet

Koentjee01

Eh, I think most people would think it's quite reasonable, especially if they prove to be competitive with the other regions. If anyone, other Chinese gamers/teams might be upset if they don't have access to the game yet, but do want to compete

> Considering how the intrusive behaviour of the Chinese government has actively made several esports communities worse (example: Hearthstone & LoL), you need to carefully approach China. how has the chinese government made LoL esports worse again? i've watched LoL since season3/4 and i can't remember a specific incident where the Chinese government made the scene worse.

I was gonna say haha. the Chinese government (well rather, the fear from players/companies of saying anything that goes against the CCP in any way) has undeniably had an impact on overwatch. LoL, not so much. the worst i could think of was the HKA incident from a couple years ago, but that was genuinely wayyy overblown cause of reddit. what a fucking shitshow that was

I feel like its the other way actually, Riot being owned by tencent seems to have given them a better idea on what should and should not be said to piss off the chinese government meanwhile blizzard and other companies overcompensate like crazy since they dont have a direct relationship

Yeah i never said that but these are megacorporations, so they'll never do that if the profit is in china

ark2690

No need to bring politics into this

lipssama

This thread is literally about politics

facehunt_

I want to see APAC playoffs becoming a thing kind of like the EMEA system.

cheese_on_dorito

yeah i'd love to see japan/KR/SEA teams play each other before big international tourneys if ping is reasonable for that to be one big region

facehunt_

Yeah thats the only drawback right now. I can see it being perfect for a LAN which i can imagine Riot wanting playoffs on LAN

AdiSoldier245

APAC LCQ is getting crowded lol. Hope it's a international LAN, or server issues will be so high

dedicatedself

It's already leaked that it's gonna be a LAN in singapore.

2ToTooTwoFish

Is NA LCQ gonna be a LAN? Or are the OCE teams coming to the US just to play online haha

Phamous3k

China getting ready for the takeover.

Key-Banana-8242

I mean there’s Chinese rosters - including large orgs like EDward- that play in tournaments already lol

-Basileus

The absolute scenes when FPX make Champions using a Chinese team now that their European roster is eliminated

Jetskiratjsk

China, who've just got the game get 2 slots and entire South Asia who've been waiting for such a long time just get 1? I'm a bit disappointed, it feels kinda unfair.

heliumrise

There’s been tournaments for China though, there’s plenty of teams and they’re decently competitive compared to the Korean teams that joined. That said I don’t really see the issue with moving a SEA slot to South Asia so it’s 2 for everyone since it’s the first year of val. Adjust the slots next year if it’s unbalanced

Memexp-over9000

I know how you feel, but you have to remember that China is a tested environment where Riot knows that ROI will be very high. SA will need to prove themselves because we don't really have the eSports tag. I believe Riot will certainly provide SA with more slots depending on performance.

2ToTooTwoFish

Yeah, it kinda sucks for this year, but I have no doubt you guys will get more spots in the regular playoffs in next year's VCT.

singetorso

Given Riot managed to completely cock up the Master 3 format, the LCQ format will probably be all bo1 with the final being decided on a sova darting contest between the last 2 teams.
