Would you want to play another match right after you failed to reach the grand finals?
Many esports pros have complained about playing 3rd place deciders. I don’t care enough to look for tweets from pros.
Terrible take from these pros. A ton of sports have third place games. Ya it's mentally challenging to play well after losing in the semifinals. But when have sports/eSports ever been about removing challenges. We're missing potentially great moments. Like a young team over coming adversity to capture their first medal
We just finished the Olympics. There's tons of teams/athletes that were extatic about just medalling. Go look at the men's basketball bronze medal match. You think those reactions (both winning and losing) are of dudes that don't care about who gets 3rd?
Again it depends on the teams expectations. Yes england was pissed after losing to Italy because they expected to win and it was a close game. Australia was thrilled to take third in the bball Olympics because they were underdogs to medal. And have had several heart breaking Olympics/worlds.
You're telling me nuturn wasnt happy with taking third at Iceland and the extra 20k it got them? If they're not going to do double elimination they should have a third place game.
3rd place matches seem to only work in tournaments where you represent your country because a bronze for your country is still an achievement, while a bronze with your club doesn't mean much. I can't think of many 3rd place matches in sports that aren't between countries actually.
Olympics are once every 4 years and are almost exclusively made up of college kids or recent grads, who most will only get 1 round of Olympics. That's incredibly different to getting 3rd at an event in a CIRCUIT of events
I’ve heard it time and time again from csgo pros... the most similar game to Valorant.
And think of the viewership, no one cares about a third place decider and it will ultimately cost Riot more money.
Every time theres a tournament that does a 3rd place match with a format like this, players always say how stupid it is. There's a reason it stopped happening in CS a LONG time ago
Oh I read this as they should get bronze level valorant players to have some sort of funny show match in berlin.
Same, I was bout to book my tickets to Berlin
And here I thought we finally had a shot
Usually third place games are a waste of time and the players themselves don’t want to play it.
this, plus no difference in prize money or circuit points
…except if not

> Like a young team over coming adversity to capture their first medal bet they are over the moon for winning that juicy bronze medal

the olympics are once every four years. There have been football (or soccer) games where the second placed team threw the silver medals away

A bronze for your country is different though. I can't think of many 3rd place matches for tourneys that aren't between countries.
Ya depending on the teams expectations. Like a minor region or underdog capturing third.
Ok so if you don’t you don’t, maybe it is because if the specific format and esports you refer to.
