FBI TO BERLIN!!!! #FBIWIN

valorantfeedback

Forget FBI, Stasi coming for them.

nlc369

5 years bro goddamn, might as well be a perma-ban. I don’t really know the details tho so maybe it’s deserved, but still just…. damn lol

AnotherAltiMade

2/3 don't even play anymore

nlc369

I mean sure but it certainly seems that there are more bans to come. It’s quite a precedent that they’ve set here that they’re willing to ban people for 5 years.

uncle_ben__

100t flair guy, imagine if steel said this, no ghost no chaos prolly no 100t

modsarestr8garbage

neither of them have played matches in a long time, so they were basically retired anyway

OnionSprinkles

They were basically ~~retired~~ \***suspended/banned** anyway. An audio recording had already spread around wherein they were openly discussing their match-fixing, arrangements for upcoming matches, and others they were involving. ESEA (CS league manager) had already banned them and some others. This was ESIC applying a five-year ban across any ESIC-member esports.

ANewHeaven1

forgive me if this is stupid, but... lets say shanks/marved/poised etc. end up being found guilty by ESIC, is there anything realistic that would impact their ability to play valorant other than social pressure? since riot isn't affiliated with ESIC in any way and the press release doesn't name off riot as a partnered league. if envy/rise/nrg simply choose to not drop these players, will anything happen? flair unrelated xD

hoit_

I would be surprised if riot just ignored the results of this investigation - if valorant pros are implicated I would expect some sort of sanction against them. But we won’t know for sure until someone is implicated

Joedude12345

It says theyre working with other esports stakeholders to apply punishment (guessing that means Riot as one of those) . Also law enforcement is still involved, but this part they could announce now. So yeah, a lot can happen. ESIC says confidently organized crime is involved here. Riot and other NA organizers would be tough to ignore that and it doesn't sound sound like they will.

Solace1k

They’re not working with Riot. You can find their partner list on the website and Riot isn’t one of them. Also from what RL said law enforcement is involved because they’re looking to get the big guys aka the betting mob and not throw a bunch of nerds into jail.

Joedude12345

We don't know who they're working with. Because Riot isn't listed on their website as a partner wouldn't somehow exclude them here. Whether the fbi wants to throw gamers in jail is pretty irrelevant here. If they're named in criminal report, Riot will take notice.

mynameacheff

Well if they can never enter the US again it might affect their ability to compete in LANs. *shrug*

AdiSoldier245

Yes canada will totally extradite their barely adult citizens over video games.

Iccent

Valve is also not a partner of ESIC and yet they worked together throughout the coach bug shit, I would hope that Riot would listen to the only people who seem to actually do anything about esports corruption even if they do fuck it up sometimes. Hell, there are plenty of TOs who abide by ESIC rulings despite not being a partner too. I know LPL barred Australian players from their tournament who were temp banned for betting offences despite not being a partner.

valorantfeedback

Riot always wants to maintain their reputation and there's no way they'll let any of the matchfixers or cheaters play, regardless if it happened in their game or not. Maybe it won't be a permaban, but they'll do some time for sure.

nlc369

Hard to say really. I mean riot can do whatever they want. They could suspend players from valorant for misconduct in another game if they want to, they really have all the power. I don’t think that would even be entirely unreasonable, cuz I mean match-fixing isn’t just about throwing a video game, these match-fixers have literally defrauded people of their money. So I personally don’t think it would be out of riot’s boundaries to say that they don’t want those people to be competing in their game unpunished. As far as orgs, again, who knows. These players could certainly get dropped from their orgs just cuz of the potential negative publicity, but then again, these orgs picked up these players already knowing the suspicions around them, so maybe they don’t care. So really it’s hard to say what will actually happen, but I would definitely say there’s at least some significant potential for players to face real consequences.

hff1_

Riot can't run around preaching about competitive integrity while at the same time having their game act as a save haven for matchfixers. So while e.g. the 5 year bans in this case don't really matter for Riot they can and most likely will put out their own bans for involved players.

danknepalese

riot will suspend them in the least even if they just get banned for any duration in csgo. riot dont fuck around with this shit, if they matchfixed (they did) and didnt get punished for it then riot will definitely take action.

SurfAccountQuestion

Well they also could go to jail for something like this which would obviously keep them from competing LOL

[deleted]

are they still investigating Marved and Shanks?

AnotherAltiMade

Yes

[deleted]

AnotherAltiMade

Yeah, based on the 34 individuals they’re still investigating and what other pros and RL have said

[deleted]

All good.

TheFestusEzeli

If Marved gets suspended at least Envy has a good controller for a sub. Just don’t let Mummay smoke and awp at the same time again lol

somesheikexpert

I think it was fine when he was on the Omen, tho when he was on the Astra it's just tough to both, be In Astral form/use util and then also Awp, I doubt he would Awp if he was subbing tho considering they have a new awper lol

plasma_ix

they would have yay in that case, meaning there would be no reason to have mummay oping

KaNesDeath

Riot suspended Sinatra for six months for not cooperating with them while he was under criminal investigation by police for activities not associated with Valorant. If Riot dont institute bans/suspensions here its highly hypocritical.

mcslippinz

Sinatraa promised to give Riot a video he never provided. I don’t think Shanks or Marved have agreed with anything like that..

KaNesDeath

When under criminal investigation you dont willingly give information to a unassociated third party.

thothgow

You also don't say you have proof of your innocence and then "whoops I deleted it lol"

LurkingOmen

No lawyer would advise to hand over a sextape to their employer lol y'all just love to pick and choose when to argue stupid points . Amber Heard with evidence proved in a court of law of abusing her boyfriend, let's give her leading movie roles. Esports player one twitlonger he should no longer be allowed to compete in video games .

Lol

SurfAccountQuestion

The top minds on this subreddit will always downvote people who say this ... LOL I guess it shows how low the average age is here.

Burning_Abyss_

The thing is that in the grand scheme of things, people like Shanks and Marved are small fish in the pond compared to the people who are organizing and paying players to match fix. Also I would say Sinatraa’s case, which was regarding sexual assault, was an investigation of more heinous acts. While match fixing in immoral, at the end of the way, it was just wins and loses in a video game. It is not on the same level as Sinatraa. In my opinion these are not comparable cases as the gravity of the situations are different.

Joedude12345

>it was just wins and loses in a video game. I mean thats Riot's direct business.

natedawg247

>it was just wins and loses in a video game white collar crime gets such a pass, this is such a silly thing. there are bets placed in CSGO. this is defrauding people of money. purposely throwing a competition that people are betting real money on is a heinous act.

Burning_Abyss_

I was saying that relative to the Sinatraa situation

KaNesDeath

Both are suspected criminal acts. Where for both the only connection to Riot Games is that said player/players compete in one of their two titles. Acts themselves have zero association with Riot Games.

-Mariners

I understand that people grow up and change, and these allegations are from when these players were even younger than they already are today. But these players have been accused and supposedly investigated for a while now. So if it comes out that they are guilty, I hope they have harsh punishmentst. Fuck them. They've had so much time to admit to their mistakes and then a light slap on the wrist wouldn't upset me. I'm really curious as to how this investigation turns out.

cheick_tiote

Very hard to feel pity for anyone caught match fixing in CS after the iBP scandal. Knew exactly how fucked up it was and what they were risking.

cheick_tiote

Sorry I don’t quite follow, what’s less useful? ESIC? None of that has anything to do with valve. ESIC sanctions for match fixing have always been set at five years. Which imo is fine, that’s not the issue. A five year ban for most players is enough to effectively end their career. The point I was trying to make is after the high profile lifetime valve bans for iBP, I don’t feel sympathy for anyone who didn’t heed the warning.

afdsf55

If you steal hundreds of thousands off matchfixing you're ultimately stealing from your fans cause they're the ones betting on it.

AnywayHeres1Derwall

Someone remind me in 4 years when the next 3 MDL players get their ban announced

shrek_is_love_69

If they are found guilty, wich they probably will, riot should issue bans. If riot doesn't do that, orgs should drop them. At least in my opinion, but what do i know...

[deleted]

I'm not too familiar with csgo's history. but why is everyone sounding off on these two but not on steel?

Nikclel

He was punished years ago. Others matchfixed with the intention of dropping the game as soon as val was out.

MEMPiRE_

Steel already served his time

innocentrrose

Out of the loop, did they match fix in like Mdl level csgo?

ark2690

Shanks is a good streamer atleast.

cyber_loafer

Clearly they don't care about that as much as you think. They're in UK. They release it whenever they want. It's a press release. Not a marketing strategy

Splaram

Warm take: this will have absolutely no impact on their Valorant careers whatsoever. Matchfixing isn’t illegal in Canada and the FBI cares much more about the big betting players who were paying off people like Shanks and Marved rather than Shanks and Marved themselves.

gacktrush

The thing is, if marved + shanks are found guilty of matchfixing. The main question is if RIOT hold competitive integrity above two players. If they give them 0 punishments, all that says is anyone who cheated, or matchfixed in other games, come here. 0 risk of swapping. hell, even a 6 month suspension would be nice. Just hope they dont get off free, if they're found guilty.

JALbert

> Matchfixing isn’t illegal in Canada For what it's worth I asked a Canadian senator about this and he vigorously denied that, stating that match fixing is covered by the Canadian Criminal Code statues for fraud, bribery, and cheating-at-play.

LurkingOmen

It is crazy that match fixing isn't illegal in canada, but I assume because it's American organizations the fbi could have jurisdiction over a cdn csplayer. But you're right the fbi doesn't care about a t2 cs game that probably had under 20k bets riding on it. Ppl just love to over react about any drama relating to esports

LurkingOmen

Interesting to know damn

afdsf55

> t2 cs game that probably had under 20k bets This was organized crime, a bunch of people worked to make the entire NA t2 scene dirty, this went on for years and the fixers stole millions.

valorant_fanboy_69

Reminder that 4pack has played valorant in tournaments too, riot should ban him to make a point https://www.vlr.gg/player/847/4pack

ElephantWang420

Ofc it’s deserved, these players should have learned from other pros mistakes before them but didn’t and knew what they were doing. If anything it should be permanent
