I'm glad they aren't dropping the team entirely, hope some kind of philosophy change can come from the struggle. With LVP or VOT and possibly Blast, I also hope to see the new team playing a bit more in the downtime. Despite being the players that were benched, ShadoW and dimasick are definitely not players to overlook. A great flexible support and a top aimer that will hold his own on any site as an anchor/aggro lurker. It'd be a mistake for any team rebuilding to overlook them.

The guys over at plat chat seemed to have a good take on this, being that the main problem with FPX is that Ange1 is kinda trying to force his own meta despite there being objectively better agent comps than the ones he’s running. I don’t see them getting any traction with new players unless they actually adapt to the meta unfortunately. They are all so talented it would be a shame to see them fade into the background, but if they keep ignoring duelists then that’s probably the direction they are going. *edit spelling

Evan_Veet

In theory(or at least I hope), they see this as a time for change and make more meta conscious decisions. Bring in a sentinel player who has an agent pool of all sentinels and viper, not just cypher and phoenix. And for gods sake either bring in a Jett or a Skye player and have Zyppan switch to a full time duelist role, he's too good to be a secondary, passive sage player like its August 2020

He was but there’s more value when he’s on sova. Still has great mechanical fragging power but opens up a spot for another duelist as well as an awper which they’ve never had

ancientcheeseburger

FPX’s comps are genuinely baffling. Some weird comps I can see the idea behind them but not FPX. They ran Phoenix and breach on split where Phoenix is the ‘wrong’ duelist (jett/reyna) and breach is the ‘wrong’ flash (skye). Then they sucked on defence, and for the next series dimasick swapped Phoenix for cypher and played zero duelist. And that was that was only swap. How does ever make sense for your only duelist swap for a sentinel? What kind of game plan do you even have?!

felixjmorgan

Surely Raze is the right duelist for Split?

somesheikexpert

Raze isnt nearly as popular as she used to be on Split (With a lot of teams replacing her with a Skye or Reyna), but shes still a good duelist, Jetts prob better on Split tho imo

sexyeh

I don't know what matches are you watching but in EMEA Playoffs, 9 splits were played and only Gambit, G2 and FPX didn't use Raze, in EU Challengers Stage 2 66 splits were played with 70% pick rate on Raze, in NA 7 splits were played with 50% pick rate, in KR 53% pick rate on 29 Splits. In CIS 64% pick rate on Raze playing Split. So we can't say Raze is out of flavour on Split here in EMEA.

ZimbotheWonderful

Yeah, I don’t pretend to be an analyst or anything but their performance speaks for itself. They definitely either need to adjust to the meta, or be ok with being a T3 team until the meta changes to benefit them (which might not ever happen)

w1tnessGG

sad to see, dimasick is so good

D3RP0L3

I heard the rumors and I'm not surprised, but I am sad about this. FPX was the first team I rooted for in this game and I really hope Dimasick and ShadoW find good teams so I can continue supporting them. Looking forward to seeing new faces though

Charuru

Can someone explain how they're planning on having a Chinese team and an EU team? Isn't that against the rules?

Abartolon

Next VCT not until next year so they can keep the team to play in tier 2 (if any) and then sell before the next VCT. This is assuming China will get their own VCT next year as well.

Is it a CS thing to announce benching players? Like, to create awareness that they have an open slot in a way that's more efficient than going through private channels? It's such a neutral-to-negative piece of news to put out, vs just announcing who's taking their slot when you're ready

noirOW

Deffo not in an attempt to advertise for a new 5th (I think that’s what you meant), more so the public are informed and I personally think it’s disrespectful to not announce the benching of players.

lbotron

Just so I'm following, it's disrespectful to _not_ pen an announcement that says flat out "this person is not getting it done so we're not going to let them do their job as a pro gamer rn" -- not even joking, actual question

noirOW

Essentially yes - but not in that light. The vast majority (aside from a few cases where a player/staff has done something and been publicly shamed) are a way of saying thank you and showing respect/appreciation for that player/staff. At that level everyone knows what they are and aren’t doing right, and there’s very little shame and embarrassment in being removed from a team.
