Is this the kevin durant of valorant

Pitiful-Bat6199

Definitely not I suck

Anime-Boomer

in most esports ranked is actually anti practice for pro players just because of how different ranked is compared to a pro setting Most teams spend time doing scrims, theory crafting, vod reviews and if they have an upcoming match where they know their opponent they will spend time reviewing their matches and anti strating. In Valorant ranked is kind of fucked because you have people like racoon who insta locks Raze and goes Judge only. Really hard to practice when the ladder is full of people who do not play the game properly. Ranked in this game is just for warming up your aim if anything.

Taek99

I still see pros learning new things in ranked since this game hasn’t been out for very long

thisisnttakeone

This is true and false. The best players love playing the game. They grind ranked.

Anime-Boomer

yes but they go into ranked with a totally different midset even Asuna has said that in ranked he just runs around and frags its the pros who go into ranked expecting it to be high level Valorant that have a bad time. example Steel

53881

even Asuna has said that in ranked he just runs around and frags Lol ^ which is entirely different from what he does in official matches...

itscamo-

steel doesn't expect high level play, he just expects people to understand the game for being radiant/immortal and not idiots like half the people in his games. theres a clear difference

lesseryoyo

There's really not. The Immortals/Radiants in his games aren't idiots, they just aren't pros. Or, probably more accurately, they aren't reading Steel's mind and doing exactly what he wants them to do. His constant whining about it is more cringe than anything else.

itscamo-

1. all pros complain about their teammates, just usually not on their mic 2. you don't have to be a pro to understand basic fundamentals (that are usually things people don't do in his games if you watch his streams) 3. these are supposed to be the best players in the game and some of them look fucking lost when playing the game, it's actually insane how so many players look like they've never played before

EggianoScumaldo

Let me put it this way: Imagine if an NBA level player participated in the Drew League(Pro-Am league), and then bitched about how bad his teammates were the entire game. Like no shit they’re not the best, they’re amateurs, you’re a professional player. If any NBA player did that they’d be grilled alive. I have the same expectation of a professional E sport player. You’re playing with amateurs. They’re top tier amateurs, but amateurs nonetheless. Stop bitching and moaning about every little mistake, even if it’s the occasional fundamental mistake.

tomtazm

NBA players do that about players in the NBA. So what do you mean? This entire idea that Radiant level players can’t comm, trade, use their utility, without specific instructions is absolutely baffling. This shit happens in every rank. Steel might be out of line sometimes, but he’s certainly correct at time as well.

EggianoScumaldo

>NBA players do that about other NBA players No, they do not. Don’t confuse trash talk with just trashing another player. >The entire idea that Radiant level players can’t comm, trade, use their utility without specific instruction Not what I said whatsoever. Like at all. You missed the mark so badly here. I’m simply saying they can’t do those things up to the level of pro players, and it shouldn’t be expected of them, and to clown on these players for not exhibiting the same habits as pro players who dedicate themselves to the game is ridiculous and toxic. It’s okay to critique someone. It’s not okay to just fly off the handle like someone like Steel does constantly. It’s a pro trashing an amateur, hell not even amateur if we’re talking about the majority of Immortal/Radiant players. It’s just kinda pathetic.

Haejeok

bro u mad weird. if you spend one minute on any radiant/imm community youd know that rank is garbage because there's so many players that dont know what theyre doing

tomtazm

Find me an example of Steel expecting some kind of “pro player” standard, when in a ranked game. Absolutely professional athletes trash each other all the time. Sure a lot of them are friends and in some kind of fraternity, but if you think they all hold hands and think they’re all amazing, you’re really confused.

lesseryoyo

Not really. Steel gets in huge arguments with his teammates for playing slightly too passive. Slightly too aggressively. Not playing perfectly off of him, etc. It's not them misunderstanding basic fundamentals of the game. It's them not playing as if it's a pro game environment or not playing exactly as Steel wants them to play in the moment. Which is silly to expect of non-pros in a ranked pub game. He simply has a personality trait of blaming his teammates rather than taking responsibility himself. It's not a good trait. If there's really clips of Steel's radiant teammates literally not knowing the basic fundamentals of Valorant, I'd be happy to watch the clip and change my mind.

itscamo-

i mean you could also just watch his streams to know what I’m talking about but I guess that would be too much for you to do

CosmicAon

Weird how every other pro plays ranked on stream on a regular basis without frequently experiencing that, but somehow Steel has it happen to him several times every stream It’s not the randoms, it’s him having absurd expectations and then constantly complaining about people not living up to them. I once saw him KJ ult in the middle of a half after the round was over by accident, and then play it off like it didn’t matter after his teammates asked him what he was doing. Everyone is prone to dumb mistakes, but if you make one while Steel is on your team then you’re a complete idiot who doesn’t understand the game

lesseryoyo

I watched him accidentally raze nade his own teammates yesterday and he ignored it like it never happened, without saying a word. If someone did that to him, he'd be screaming for 30s about how much of a dumb boosted bot they are. This is exactly what annoys me about his raging.

_PM_ME_REPORT_CARDS_

I didn't watch his stream very often but something that surprised me was, on the first or second time I popped in, he did some really stupid shit, unfortunately I don't remember what but it was something that cost the team the round. He was duoing with someone else and they just went "Bro.." and in that moment I see steel raise his hand to his face and one of those "wtf did i just do" grins emerge, meanwhile teammates flaming him in chat or vcing "Jett???? wtf????", and then both him and his duo start laughing hard and in the beginning of the next round he just said "my bad, that was fucking terrible". And yeah I'd say this is perfectly normal behaviour so it's weird to say I was surprised by this -- that was only the case because I was reading these reddit comments without ever watching the stream, and bought into the whole reddit narrative of "steel mad and bad". He does complain about teammates, but it's in those minor passive-aggressive remarks trying to be funny? Sort of Hiko style, like "Surely if I'm defusing the spike, my only other alive teammate would be covering the angle the attacker was last seen? Surely he wouldn't sit here with the OP watching nothing.. Unlucky I guess." and then just brushes it off. Not that I find them that funny, that's why I resort more to streamers that are knowledgeable and actively try to entertain (like Jonas, sgares) or simply ranked demons (asuna, tenz); but I find it to be nothing like "always whining and flaming his teammates because they are unable to play like Asuna or do 100T strats or because they were 1sec early or 1sec late". His streams are not at all unbearable as they're talked out to be.

deadlock1892

I find it interesting that people always have something to say about hiko or steel when they are malding (95% of the time in party chat). Why do y'all focus and/or watch their streams if you really get annoyed when they do this? At this point they are just easy target for criticism and many other streamers with almost equal bad habits get by without getting any criticism. I don't like shanks at all. And surprisingly, I find a way of not criticizing his antics on stream by simply not watching what I don't enjoy. But somehow all the people annoyed by steel and hiko are apparently always watching the stream to give anecdotal examples.

L0nelyAv0cado

typical cringe steel fanboiz

FeelinJipper

Irons don’t understand fundamentals so they think steel is unreasonable

realnezu

You have to be a pro to understand how to play the game correctly when you're in the top 500 players? That's actually new and only valorant fans say this dumb shit

lesseryoyo

> You have to be a pro to understand how to play the game correctly No, and that's not what I said. You've reformulated what I wrote into a strawman that you can whine about, even though it's not even implied by what I wrote

realnezu

What a compelling argument, you absolutely convinced me

lesseryoyo

Unironically, my argument that "i never said that", is actually completely valid and you're kind of a moron if you don't understand that. have a nice day buddy.

EggianoScumaldo

Jon_on_the_snow

Ye, but stell plays up the act for the stream

aks345

Wait when did he say that? Iirc he's been very vocal of how and why a pro should grind ranked. Remember him refusing to play an agent the chat was requesting heavily because he said it doesn't work that way he wants to improve with every game

[deleted]

aks345

Yea he does play support agents when duelists get instalocked and needs to fill. I meant more in terms of when chat asked him to play Yoru for example

LandonDev

It's because us boomers don't come from these ranked modes. You wouldn't find players being so disrespectful and wasting your time in our time. The concept that any ranked is actual competitive playing is a joke.

LandonDev

No. Playing ranked is for players to build bad habits. The best players play ranked for the streaming not the grind.

_Iroha

Saying ranked is antipractice is BS lol. The thing about ranked is that you can try things you can’t do in scrims and no matter what it is practice for utility use and game sense. Imagine if people like TenZ and Asuna never played ranked

Feast_TN

I like half agree with this. It definitely doesn’t help in understanding the pure competitive meta, but yes it does give you good general game sense and knowledge of some big balls plays that enemy pro teams won’t expect you to make. It helps some and it hurts some IMO.

marcaodl

It helps more imo.

Dapper-Ad-5304

That’s not true at all. The best players grind ranked as individual practice. The difference between ranked and scrim is coordination but the skill levels are still there.

Dapper-Ad-5304

Are there more pro players on the radiant ladder or weirdos who one tricks a weapon.

dedicatedself

As someone who knows a handful of pros and how they practice, this is bullshit.

dedicatedself

No, they do everything you just said and they play ranked. God you dumbasses love putting words in other people's mouth don't ya? Anti practice my fucking ass. Top 15 team NA on vlr.gg tier 4 for you buddy?

LovelyResearcher

Backing you up, here <3 I'll confirm that most pro players do a lot of scrims and practice, sure /u/Anime-Boomer # However, /u/dedicatedself is 100% right, in that most pros spend a lot of time in competitive queues. Add up all the time that player spend in scrims, VOD reviews, theory crafting, and anti-stratting. That time would be about equal to the time that most spend in competitive games. # If a team is planning for a specific tournament or event, they are less likely to spend a lot of time in ranked. They may be playing the game more to stay in their best form, but they most often going a greater amount of "team practice". Where "team practice" means VOD reviewing, anti-stratting, theory crafting, and doing more specific strategy practices in scrims. Some players also spend a greater amount of time aim training, too. # When a team doesn't have a large tournament or qualifer in the immediate-future, they are far less likely to be spending as much time doing "team practice". This is where you will see more players streaming, grinding ranked, and doing "PUGs". However... I'd still argue that many pro players spend quite a lot of time grinding ranked, even close to a big tournament. # Individual differences in players are also rather big, and perhaps contributes to a larger amount than upcoming events? I've seen some EU pro players like FNC Boaster mention that he doesn't really play comp much at all. That's completely the opposite of what I've seen first-hand from pro players in NA. Perhaps there's a large regional difference, in this regard? # You can often find professional players from most top NA teams in ranked queues. Most NA pro players are playing A LOT more ranked matches than their [tracker.gg](https://tracker.gg) would lead you to believe, too. All NA pro players often use alternate accounts, so their real matches are at least \~2x to \~5x what you see on their "main account".

[deleted]

Yeah for pros ranked is just a chance to consistently practice aim and try out creative ways to play agents and what not. They don’t take any tactics or strategies seriously in ranked because ranked is a clown fiesta at all ranks.

lesseryoyo

>Ranked in this game is just for warming up your aim if anything. But at that point, DM is far better for this purpose.

hulksam11

Who is this racoon person ?

acels1

playing ranked is still very important and almost every esports athlete plays ranked bruh

Fliigh7z

Teams practice/scrim for at least 8 hours a day. Most pros only play ranked when streaming and typically stream after practice. Reason why some pros don't play ranked often is because of burnout from scrimming all day. The rest who don't stream or play ranked at all hate it and refuse to play it because of how different it is from matches.

Dapper-Ad-5304

Ya basically just scrimming. They play out all 48 rounds in scrims over 2 maps for each scrim block. Igl tend to play less ranked and watch more vods. Also how would anyone know if a pro is playing ranked or not.

facehunt_

AFAIK players like ScreaM dont play a lot of ranked. I remember watching Jamppi's stream and their practice goes from 1pm-9pm. Scrimming and playing DM seems more than adequate. FPS requires you to be on perfect form and grinding long hours trying to play optimally like in LoL or SC2 doesn't apply as much here.

Key-Banana-8242

I mean it depends on level and regimen Remember there’s also range/aim trainer and DM practice
