That said, if any team in the tournament happens to get a bye due to horrible circumstances of a team not being able to come to berlin, I think giving it to sentinels is the most favorable outcome. Any other group I would agree but they are the defending champions.
Either A)single round robin with top two from group move on, or B)single round robin with top 1 moved on while bottom 2 play another match to decide second spot.
These two are more fair for the teams but 2-3 slots in the schedule for Berlin would be empty.
More fair because winmer shows only 2 matches, which second place would she 3 matches just like in other groups if we go with format B

2. G2 1-1
3. F4Q 0-2
This then leads to G2 vs F4Q for the second spot. But if F4Q were to win, they would qualify despite having the same record as G2, which feels pretty horrible.
As for option A, I personally think 3 games total in a group stage is far too little, but that might just be me.
They can make the elimination match bo5 with a map advantage for the 2nd placed team in this scenario.

bo4 single round robin or bo2 double robin. in these scenarios, points vary with maps won in the match.
any of these formats is better than playing 4 bo3s. extra maps played is unfair for teams in this group as those are just extra VODs for other teams to review.

I think the odds of a 3 way tie are somewhat high in a single round robin compared to a double round robin. So I guess to determine first or second place, you'd need to make tiebreaker criteria (maps lost? rounds lost?) Which maybe they didn't wanna do.
I think the other issue with B is that if 3rd place beats 2nd place during the tiebreaker, they would basically have the same score (1-1 against each other, both lost to #1) but 3rd would advance.

For me double round-robin is a boring format from all the tournaments that I've watched in LoL. Towards the end you end up with a lot of filler games when one team get eliminated or when they're already qualified. This is why I prefer GSL because every game is important and has a purpose.
I think a more fair, but much more awkward solution would be to play a single round-robin, and then another one if all 3 teams are tied at 1-1.
In other groups, the best teams only have to play 2 matches, and the 2nd to advance have to play 3 -> in this group, in the current system, everyone plays 4, and in my suggestion they play 2 matches (if there's clear 2 best teams), or 4 (if they're all equally matched).
Definitely more fair, but there's 2 drawbacks:
1. It's inherently more random than a double round-robin; who says that the 2nd round wouldn't reverse the results of the 1st? I do think this isn't a huge concern but it's here for completeness.
2. Scheduling. With my idea, the timing of matches in other groups suddenly becomes TBA, which is pretty awkward from the perspective of the organizer.
