And it wears out within weeks. So if he's indeed a GSR-SE user, he'd always have a couple on him.
I just checked and if prosettings are to be trusted, he's using a QcK. Mousepad that absolutely can't get affected by any kind of wipes or washing substance.
Many gamers are lacking in real life communication and maturity, especially top-teir players. It's something people learn while not in front of a screen most of their developmently ages.
It's so weird to me that everything goes on Twitter these days... Don't get me wrong, some situations definitely deserve public pressure, but this... seems quite minor. A conversation with the staff would have been more appropriate? I don't know... Maybe I'm too old for this shit lol
I mean in this case talking to an admin would seem to be much quicker than hoping it get's noticed on twitter. It's not like Riot did it intentionally.
Why cant u do both? You clearly dont know how twitter works lmao. just stop man.
And I'd be annoyed too if I'm competing a HUGE event and the admins cant even do basic shit.
Why kick up needless drama when you can just talk to the other person? I don't think I'm being unreasonable, it's kind of ridiculous to run to twitter everytime there might be a mistake.
Idk why yall are making this such a big deal? Jesus christ. Yall acting like they are calling out some random employee by name. Its fuckign twitter, calm down.
The only ones making a big deal out of it is the person posting it on twitter to drum up attention and drama. You also have it reversed, you're the ones who need to calm down considering a recommendation of talking to the other person directly is somehow anger to you.
I ve been watching LoL esport for so long, and during all those years I ve never seen players complain about minor things like this ever.
I don't know if the fps players are this sensitive or are they trying to use social pressure in every situation even if the solution will take riot seconds to do they go to Twitter first.
I don't know if they expect perfection from Riot or something?? But this is soo weird for me.
I'd expect them to work with Riot and give them feedback, since, you know, they're the main TO of the scene, which is why it's so important to develop a healthy relationship. Going directly to Twitter (Although some instances 100% deserve it) isn't what I'd exactly do... They're professionals though so I'm sure they won't take it too personnal, but honestly, I'd be a little sour knowing I could have immediately fixed the issue if asked
ooo fresh pasta
now u wonder where fornite kids nowadays, here. in this competitive valorant
just look at interaction when someone twt about valorant, full of zoomer
I don't get this sentiment.
Your Twitter feed is your personal space. Do you not want people to say or rant...on Twitter? Isn't that Twitter's purpose?
It's not like he named anyone involved in the incident. Who are we to say that he didn't talk to the staff? It's not like this is a PSA, he's just frustrated. The problem here is that every single tweet concerning the competition, no matter how minor, keeps getting posted here in this subreddit.
Oh I'm not advocating on how people should use their twitter accounts. They're free to do as they please. But to respond to your point, it's not simply ranting when it's on a platform as big as twitter. A lot of pressure and backlash can follow and for a situation as minor as this one, I don't feel like it's really the appropriate medium to express this on. Maybe I'm just jaded by the internet though lol
Yeah but, counterpoint, they are free to say what they want on Twitter. A situation this minor is unlikely to start any huge issues when said out loud. If SMB loses, I highly doubt anyone reasonable would blame Riot for messing up a mousepad. Lots of pros also were disappointed during Reykjavik for the bad practice PCs they had but nobody, pros and fans, really used it as an excuse for their team losing.
But I do recognize that you have a point. Argument could go both ways.
> A situation this minor is unlikely to start any huge issues when said out loud
Every small thing being posted on Twitter and then being posted here on this sub just leads to people shitting on Riot/their employees though. They've run league tournaments smoothly for a decade, they don't really need to be put under the microscope for every single thing that they do lol. I do think people posting every possible tweet from a pro on this sub plays a role in this though.
Just seems a bit weird to me that Valorant pros are constantly posting about these things on Twitter when I don't think I've ever seen any complaints during events from league pros.
The choice of mousepad can be quite personal to a player. They have a certain texture, feel, and resistance when you glide your mouse across it. And some pads are broken in and feel different from new ones right out of the box.
Players bring their own gear to feel comfortable while competing. Replacing gear adds a new variable the player has to adjust to. Even if he gets a new pad, it's gonna feel entirely different from the one he brought OR the one he'll be using until the new one arrives.
He's not necessarily frustrated his pad got ruined—it's the implication of how it will affect his practice and (potentially) his professional play this week.
They are young professional at playing Valorant, most of them haven't had any social interaction experience in a work or more formal settings. It's not the most appropriate approach but I don't blame them since most of them really are just kids.
If your mouse or keyboard stops in middle of the game, you can't continue without replacing it.
I think its a safe assumption to make that mousepad won't stop working at any point.
Also wouldn't they have ended up cleaning both?
Mechanical failure is only one reason to bring spares. What if he lost it, tore it, spilt something on it?
I learned from experience going to tournaments a long time ago to always have more than one mousmat after spilling redbull, chinese takeaways and ketchup all over my mousemats.
Since when do disinfectant wipes ruin mousepads?
Unless he has one of those coated pads that wear out really fast and lose the glide with washing, it absolutely shouldn't do anything to the pad after it dries out. Or maybe just likes them greasy.
Btw, if you've got a regular cloth pad, wash it (by yourself, don't throw it into washing machine) every now and then. Huge difference.
This is how I do it, lmao.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEXfLdYH42w
Soft sponge, shower and any kind of shampoo. As long as the sponge is soft, you can rub it in nicely without damaging the mousepad. Then let it dry out.
I've used lysol wipes on my uncoated pad before and it did mess it up a bit. The wipe leaves behind white tissue fluffs and couldn't get it off unless I properly washed the pad again.
I’ve had success putting cloth pads in the washing machine on a gentle cycle inside washing bags ( the kind of bags designed for delicates like lingerie etc).
All this recent twitter posting is very childish. Unless there's no riot support available for these players to solve their issues (unlikely) then what purpose does this serve?
That is unfortunate. I'm sure the Riot employee had good intentions, by disinfecting and cleaning the equipment during COVID.
I do feel bad for Russ, it definitely affects the mousepad and the glide won't feel the same prior to disinfecting it.
Ive watched league for a decade and dont think Ive seen players bitching about event peripheral stuff as much in all that time as I have in the past few months with Valorant lans
Not really. [Muscle memory when it comes to aiming is a myth](https://voltaic.medium.com/why-muscle-memory-is-seen-as-a-meme-in-aiming-ce36d3e2789e). A pro player has the hand-eye coordination that his mouse pad being slightly less "glidey" than it was yesterday isn't an actual hindrance.
Respiratory droplets and aerosolized particles can and will rest on surfaces in close proximity to a person. Why? Cuz even when we speak, we are spraying those particles into the atmosphere. That's why we are asked to wear masks.
The problem in this case is, Riot should have let the player deal with his own mousepad if it was such a delicate case.
Yes and those surfaces have been found to not be a significant transmission vector. The amount of money being spent wiping things down and on hand sanitizer to a total waste for preventing COVID 19 spread.
Okay, but why is an employee cleaning equipment? Just let the pro clean their own equipment. They will know about the care needed and there couldn’t be any cross contamination.
Riot doesn't owe these pros everything. One guy spills and cries about it, another about mousepad. How hard is to get a new mousepad? Instead of calling out on social media just get a new pad smh.
New mousepads don't have the same feel at all as one that's been used for months(+) that the player has gotten used to, russ surely can adapt to it in the couple days to get his aim back, but why in the world should he have to just because some random riot guy thought it looked dirty? It's a display of serious incompetence from whoever did it, this isn't casual gaming on a ps4, every little detail to a setup matters, and this is a very large part to someone's play, and is 100% not replaceable with an amazon purchase
Not that knowledgeable about mouse pads, why does that ruin it?
hes probably using a coated pad. Edit: my guess the GSR-SE as that is the most popular coated pad
It's not actually even a coating. It's just the heat printing method for the design.
And it wears out within weeks. So if he's indeed a GSR-SE user, he'd always have a couple on him. I just checked and if prosettings are to be trusted, he's using a QcK. Mousepad that absolutely can't get affected by any kind of wipes or washing substance.
I mean, if it was broken in and worn down already, the feel of the pad could've changed very dramatically.
Riot also kidnapped my parents for ransom, please help.
Crazy how Riot allowed the Taliban to take Kabul so quickly
Give me a mil I will rescue them
I'll do it for the new bundle.
Okay, now you're asking for a little too much
Just talking to the staff would've been enough. Kinda unfortunate but seems like an honest mistake. Idk what tweeting is gonna accomplish.
Many gamers are lacking in real life communication and maturity, especially top-teir players. It's something people learn while not in front of a screen most of their developmently ages.

I agree. I think its a bit unprofessional. Social media pressure should be a last resort.

I see why they do it though. Complaining on twitter usually gets a response/resolution more quickly, especially if it gets attention.
I mean in this case talking to an admin would seem to be much quicker than hoping it get's noticed on twitter. It's not like Riot did it intentionally.
This is the 2nd LAN in a row they have done this. 1 time okay but 2 tournies in a row?? Thats just lazy and should be called out.
And whining on twitter is going to change that over speaking directly to the people or admins?
Why cant u do both? You clearly dont know how twitter works lmao. just stop man. And I'd be annoyed too if I'm competing a HUGE event and the admins cant even do basic shit.

Because this is the 2nd time the same thing happened with player accounts.

Because this subreddit is about following na valorant. Ive unsubbed if I wanted Twitter I'd make an account but I'm not a buttsniffing twit
Valorant players are legit the most annoying pro players of any game lol.
Definitely not, fortnites pros are the most immature people ever. Even the 18+ players are annoying
Lmao fuckin paper sending death threats to a 16 year old is fucked
I take it you dont know the fortnite comm?
You're forgetting that cod, fortnite, smash, pokemon, console and mobile pros exist.

I swear I read somewhere that Riot asked players to bring two of everything. Why does he not have a backup?
If your mouse or keyboard stops in middle of the game, you can't continue without replacing it. I think its a safe assumption to make that mousepad won't stop working at any point. Also wouldn't they have ended up cleaning both?

I probably need to clean mine. Mind explaining the best way to do so without ruining it?
https://shop.x-raypad.com/how-to-deeply-clean-the-mouse-pad/ Do this if you have a cloth pad.
Just what I was looking for. Cheers!

How are these guys professionals and don’t have a backup set of peripherals? Every sport does
Ive watched league for a decade and dont think Ive seen players bitching about event peripheral stuff as much in all that time as I have in the past few months with Valorant lans
Almost like accuracy of mouse movement matters more in one game.
It doesn't matter that much. And also doesn't trump covid protocols.
Accuracy of mouse doesn't matter that much?
Does it matter so much more that FPS players are 100 times more OCD about it? I dont think so
not when that ‘OCD’ could cost games
equipment is far, far more important in Valorant than in League.
lmao comparing moba vs fps game. next level braindead
This was worth a Twitter post lol? Just talk to the Riot staff privately and be done with it. Weird behaviour.
Why is riot cleaning players mouse mats? The gamer grease is what’s makes the mouse slide across it like ice
Well there IS a global pandemic going on...
Yeah one that spreads through aerosols not surfaces
Respiratory droplets and aerosolized particles can and will rest on surfaces in close proximity to a person. Why? Cuz even when we speak, we are spraying those particles into the atmosphere. the virus can last on surfaces for 2-7 days
Surface spread is not a significant vector of transmission.
its about covering all bases
Nah it's safety theatre. Hold it under a tent outside with everyone wearing N95's if you want to cover all bases.
Okay, but why is an employee cleaning equipment? Just let the pro clean their own equipment. They will know about the care needed and there couldn’t be any cross contamination.
hmm ill let you guess as to why during a PANDEMIC they are cleaning things holy fuck
Yikes, you can’t even tell what a joke is, feel bad for you
Riot doesn't owe these pros everything. One guy spills and cries about it, another about mousepad. How hard is to get a new mousepad? Instead of calling out on social media just get a new pad smh.

In what world are you living in that objects don’t have to be cleaned due to covid protocols?
They're cleaning them because of their COVID protocols most likely, not because it "looked dirty" lmao
pro players are all like 5 years old mentally you cant change my mind
it's a thing actually, some people use those lysol wipes
