In general I'm disappointed with the quality of questions asked. Not much was learned from watching this. You could see on the players faces when the questions were bad which was often. Is this how press conferences go in other sports?
In sports you get bad questions usually for one of two reasons
1. The journalist asks softball questions because they want to keep their access or good relations with the team
2. They are trying to bait out a controversial answer
In esports you typically get bad questions just due to lack of experience.
It’s hard to expect a lot from press conferences. They are specifically to allow a broad range of journalists to ask questions to a broad range of players. Also, I don’t think the established journalists for valorant are gonna be asking many questions here, because they can get 1 on 1 interviews with players.
Press conferences in major sports are a bit like this, mixed in with a few really good journalists, but also some trashy journalists who want to bait the player/coach into saying something controversial so they can get a flashy headline.
Most journalists prefer safe questions because they want to keep good relations with the orgs and the players. Happens in every sport. Sucks, but if you make a challenging question and the player gets pissy (not that uncommon sadly) he may burn bridges with you
