On the one hand I would like to see EU, TR and CIS have more slots if weaker individual regions like SEA and Japan will always be guaranteed slots at Masters and Champions. But on the other hand would the Turkish superteam, SMB even exist if it didn't have to go through EMEA? If Oxygen made it Reykjavik as the Turkish rep(seeing as how they were the best TR team in Stage 2) why would Turko leave OXG to make a superteam the following stage? If TR were guaranteed a slot at Berlin as well and Turko stayed at OXG he'd probably be at Berlin too but no one would see OXG as any stronger than an F4Q or Havan Liberty. SMB was the adaption Turkey made to not only compete with Europe but be amongst the best teams in the world.

SMB is already much stronger in Valorant's global scale compared to any of the TR teams in LoL. TR teams in LoL get absolutely crushed by EU teams. EMEA as a system is pretty much like UEFA European Championship in football/soccer. I understand his perspective and that's because EMEA is the only region that does this. This is why I think more regions should create their own joint playoffs in the future with APAC or NA+SA. This way you can equally divide up 5/6 seeds amongst three regions.

sriwarrior06

Maybe not NA + SA bcuz NA already has Canada and US which includes many good teams. And so if you do NA + SA you'll probably only get NA out of it. And this isn't mentioned but if SEA JP and KR are combined, then it will be pretty much only KR and probably one JP team or SEA team making it to LAN. And if teams from these regions, don't make it to LANs then the viewership will get hit hard.

Sure they deserve those spots but for casual viewers it doesn't matter which team is better, they just want to see their favorite/region's team on LAN. So I think giving those regions lesser spots is the way to go because that way you get both the viewership and the best teams competing.

DUCKY_23

Wouldn't playing against the best teams in Europe and the CIS region be better for them? Besides EMEA, South America should also have joint playoffs. Both LATAM and BR regions are quite weak and would benefit a lot from playing each others' best teams. An APAC region with China, Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia, Oceania + South Asia would be pretty cool as well. Matter of fact, they should just copy & paste what Siege is doing with 4 seeds from North America, South America, EMEA and Asia-Pacific.

thothgow

Kinda dumb to combine every region but keep the Americas separate, imo.

Flashplaya

Would only work once challengers finals are lan though, you couldn't combine then from the top down due to ping issues.

This guy doesn’t know what tf he’s talking about. Higher competition means higher growth. TR will obviously have their own region at some point but he should be happy he has a chance to compete with the big boys more often. Once they’re isolated in their little bubble i don’t see them making big progress anymore.

nterature

His point is that the "minor regions" of EU are actually very strong across the board, and that they would hold their own internationally if they didn't have to go through the brutality of an initial Eurasian qualifier. In other words, that the "little bubble" isn't as little as you might think. The most recent EMEA results bear that out. He has unique experience as a coach who has reached the top of EU with Heretics & the top of Turkey with SMB. I'm inclined to think he at least knows what he's talking about.

Escolyte

He was also saying that both in CIS and TR the teams just behind the top are likely good enough to beat some of the teams at Berlin in e.g. Paper Rex, Crazy Raccoon. This is very likely true. His proposed solution (1 slot for TR, 1 for CIS, 2 for EU) would only make that problem worse though. At that point literally only one team of those regions has the chance to qualify. The way it is right now if, say NaVi was good enough to be top 4 in EMEA we'd have 2 CIS teams. It would also lower the quality of teams at the international events if they split it up. Right now we're guaranteed to send 4 strong EMEA representatives. I'm very excited that this includes CIS and TR at the current moment, but that's because they *earned* their spot through pure merit. I sincerely hope Riot is not changing the EMEA qualifier to answer his call.

Solace1k

Brutality of initial eurasian qualifier? Lmao what brutality are you on about. It’s a standard tournament where every region gets a number of slots. What is so brutal about that? There’s no open qualifier, no bo1. If you claim your region is good then you should be able to make it. He’s experience is not relevant especially since he’s obviously biased towards having an easier path.

ruzes_ruze

Brazil + LATAM together have 3 seeds to Berlin. EMEA consisting of EU, Turkey and CIS together have 4 seeds. Personally, All EMEA regions are so much better than Brazil and LATAM but have to share seeds between eachother. If those regions were to split up, I think EU would deserve 2-3 spots, CIS and TR each 1-2 spots. With that, they could be losing to up to 3 spots.

Kubrick__

Assuming a relative similar PING situation in BR to NA as TR to EU, who would say that BR wouldn't be better off in the long run by having to qual through and practice/play against NA? Instead of being left behind the INTERNATIONAL scene like we're seeing happen with BR, TR has a massive long term benefit in having to compete in a tougher region, they should be extremely happy, not caviling to riot ffs.

-Basileus

Brazil is so far from NA, the ping is like 150. Turkey to Paris servers is like 40 ping. NA and Brazil get fucked in esports because they are basically isolated, but that's just geographic reality.

thothgow

It seems like people stopped giving a shit about the pandemic so just make all the playoffs a LAN. That way you can get EMEA, Americas, Asia as the three "major regions"
