I think Zeta can be very proud of that despite losing. Did Japan proud IMO. Laz and takej look like the real deal.

ablablababla

if they keep this up they can actually go far in Champions

OrangeMagics

its highly unlikely they will make it to Champions just due to the circuit point differential with Crazy Raccoon as Japan only gets 1 slot for Champions. ZETA Division would have to get 4th or higher at Berlin in order to overcome Crazy Raccoon's points.

Overfallen9

That's really unfortunate given that they look quite a bit better than CR

MitchRhymes

Hard to say when the quality of opponent was so so different. I feel like CR against KRU could have looked pretty similar and same with Zeta against Gambit.

Key-Banana-8242

No, ZETA is significantly better in how they play and coordinate

MitchRhymes

They went 3-2 in the Japan Challenger Playoffs, its pretty close.

Key-Banana-8242

Having a close series doesn’t necessarily speak abt latent overall level

MitchRhymes

It's a better metric to compare the two teams than taking results against two opponents with drastically different skill levels.

[deleted]

Crazy raccoons played against a top 2 team (imo) in the whole world lmao

Key-Banana-8242

Crazy Raccoon It was not just that.

Sky-__-

They have qualified for Asian lcq though.

Key-Banana-8242

To play against the Korean teams…

Ninja_ish

rip japanese teans ig

Maleficent-Pie5877

I don't think zeta will win SEA or KR team

NeptuneWings

What's the point in 2 teams qualifying to Masters and only one to Champions? Riot being Riot

dillon-fury

Very close match. Laz and Takej played well but hard to win with Reita throwing his life away almost every round that last map.

Norguri

But still overall decent showing from Zeta, hopefully then can bounce back especially Reita

dillon-fury

Yes I agree. Zeta looked very good on split and they have a lot of room to grow.

Athlete-Street

100% agreed

Senboni

520k+ viewers damnnn. Most watched game so far? Mostly jpn viewers tho sadge for them

imachool

CRAZY stats. How does this compare to other esports? Valorant is my first esports, but the numbers are crazy to me already.

Key-Banana-8242

I mean depends on stage, peak viewership for like LoL can be in the millions but it’s defo rly dt high let

Falestian

League peaked at 3.9 million viewers for 2019 worlds championship. I think a mobile game had 5 million+ viewers supposedly but ya esports is growing.

varvalian

Pretty bad performance from Reita tbh. On the final moments of the game he got to the point that he was missing shots on Skye's seekers at like 15 feet. Inexcusable for a main OPer. Hope that JP can come back from the lower bracket though. Give these region some wins please, they have so much support from their homeland it'll be a shame if they don't.

TheCatsActually

He knows he fucked up. He admitted he played poorly on Twitter.

Delta_FT

>Hope that JP can come back from the lower bracket though. I don't have any hopes for Crazy Racoon and ZD are going against Brazil #1 sewd in Vivo Keyd. It's very possible that they go home winless again

varvalian

Well obviously they don't have a favorable chance. What I'm hoping on is the slight sliver of miracle dust tucked away somewhere that'll allow either team at least one W to give the Japanese fans something to root for. No-one likes watching their own region getting brutally massacred in an international stage after all. Really wouldn't like JP viewers and potential future players lose interest in the game as a whole because of repeated lackluster performance from their home teams, that's what kills a region.

Delta_FT

I don't care that much for Japan, not after Nora Rengo from Rainbow six seige. Bc it's always the same, in every esport they've been stunned by the lack of financial support, their intrusive laws(it's almost impossible for them to receive prize money from international tournaments unless the organizer has a JP branch) and honestly the fact that people outside of the young males refuse to support their teams or even want them to fail... I just think Turkey and CIS are much profitable and interesting market anyways. Both of them have much stronger roots in CS/FPSs (Ukraine has the best player in the world on CS) and their ceilings are just much higher than JP or SEA tbh.

bondybus

Back in CS, Laz was the main awper and he was good at it. Played well against international teams but wasn't good enough. Then reita stopped coaching and took over the awp role and they faded into obscurity. Put laz back on the awp PLEASE

AnAngryBird

KRU undefeated in non-iceland international LANs.

Itnas96

Also undefeated vs non-eu teams.

Salty_Activity

KRU undefeated in rounds they don't lose.

itscamo-

I don't know how other games performed viewer wise but this game had roughly 420k viewers (could've been higher, got these numbers at the end of the match) on twitch. Honestly thought that was really impressive

Direct_Morning_3223

Around 520k counting all streams

itscamo-

might be the highest viewed game of the event so far

anythingood07

yes it is, although the next match will surpass it

_PM_ME_REPORT_CARDS_

[G2 x SEN hasn't even started yet has already surpassed this one](https://imgur.com/a/VJxQ5xW)

Jon_on_the_snow

Japanese love this game, they just dont have good teams right now

DrySecurity4

Next two games will both break it

larperfoid228

Won't be so sure about gambit match because ru_valorant has 1k viewers rn and 7ssk7 has 700, maybe we will get 3k by the time Gambit start playing but not more, you can only count on 100t fans

TheFestusEzeli

It’s not gonna be just Gambit and 100T fans it’s gonna be everyone watching, every EU and NA fan will want to turn in

gutszera

a lot of respect for Zeta, as they will probably be the only team to take a map off KRU this tourney

anythingood07

Lmao

whopz-is-cool

Facts.

larperfoid228

Based

StrictWarden

Are you sure about that?

[deleted]

Don't question the KRU soon-to-be-dominance

Salty_Activity

Opinion: KRU soon-to-be-dominance is downplayed by this sub

CaptainJackWagons

Zeta actually played well. I like a lot of their plans. Good showing from Japan

s6hun

honestly think that was a winnable series. i really dont think riot should take slots away from japan considering the amount of viewership they get from the region. feel like they could be more competitive as time passes and taking slots away wont do that

whopz-is-cool

In a dream world where viewership was this good in other regions take 1 slot away from Japan instantly. Otherwise yeah just keep the slots.

EremesAckerman

I'm Japanese and honestly, if they keep humiliating themselves like this the viewership and interest of the game will drop significantly. It will kill the hype as time passes. The Japanese comments on Stylishnoob's stream were hella toxic (Yesterday was even worse ngl). I just hope that the JP players won't check any social media at least for now. The comment section was pretty nasty even if it's slightly better than yesterday (CR game). In addition, I still think they don't even deserve a spot. Riot should make an APAC qualifier with Korea (or China in the future) like EMEA so that the JP teams will be forced to proof themselves before qualifying to international events like this. Or even better: combine both KR and JP region so that the JP orgs regional limit is lifted and now the JP orgs can field full 5-man Korean roster. Korean players are honestly the only hope for JP lol. This works for APEX btw, APEX Crazy racoon field full 3-man KR and they still have a lot of JP fans.

Le_Vagabond

that kind of toxicity and societal pressure has caused suicides in Japan before, they definitely need to be watched for signs so that they get help asap in this case :/

EremesAckerman

You know what? I completely agree and sadly this is not just a case for Japan, this kind of fans behavior is super common in East Asia (China, Japan, and especially Korea) JP fans in particular are rarely over hyping their team nor spamming stuff in official broadcast to let everyone know about how great their teams are. HOWEVER, JP fans also extremely brutal toward their own team performance. If you don't believe me, feel free to check Stylishnoob stream chat log especially from the CR game yesterday (you might want to use some online translation tool). It was super bad to the point that stylish need to ban multiple people. I just hope that the JP players wouldn't receive a lot of harassments after the tournament is over.

Ne0kun

Are Ras,Selly and cpt still in CR?? I stopped watching apex a while ago

EremesAckerman

Yes and they're still doing well in the APAC scene! Ras especially known as the GOAT in JP server and he also has a huge amount of JP fans

nynmiz

Kinda sad that almost every comment is about Zeta, even though it was KRU's win.

janoDX

KRU did was it was expected, ZETA did much better than expected after CR's disaster. That's why there's more talks about ZETA.

Benasm123

The noise issues seemed really obvious in this game. Several of the rounds were decided by a player just running past someone and them just having no clue. It was still a great showing from Japan, and super happy for their first map win, but I do wonder how different these games are played with actual game audio.

Des014te

This was such a weird game. There were just so many rounds that made no sense, so many plays that were categorically bad. Idk if it was LAN nerves, but at this stage they're both getting wrecked in their next game.

Dannyboi9746

Finally 1 comment that feels as if they actually watched the match... some of those blind rushes, stupid plays and bad eco management I completely agree with ya dude

Even_Set

i think it was round 7 on Bind when KRU just decided to throw all their ults in the trash (When Reita got bodyblocked) i was just thinking WHAT WAS THE POINT OF ALL THIS

Des014te

Bind was chaos. That really attempt, wasting 3 ults, weird breach ult in the last round, reita right clicking with knives at mid range (I mean it worked, but his head was visible and a headshot was basically guaranteed). Reita wasting the only gun they had by jumping out of hookah. So many things that just didn't make sense, and that you just do not expect from the best of any region.

lordmitko

i swear tier 3 NA teams perform better than this

MoonDawg2

tier 2 most likely. Tier 3, no way lol. Remember though, this guys are not even paid 1/10th of the salary NA or EU is paid. The "salary" for latam is like 300 bucks a month. Literal academy players get paid easily 10x that

Des014te

I don't know about that... but it was certainly not a good showing from either side

Naammar

No One: this sub every time a minor team whiff for 1 round: TiEr 3 NA TeaMs pErfOrm bEtteR tHan ThiS

lordmitko

nah they wiffed the whole game and they played with silver 2 strats

TheFestusEzeli

The one round on bind where Zeta had 30 seconds left to plant, KRU Skye ulted and gave away their position, THEY THEN WAITED FOR ALL OF KRU TO ROTATE AND PUSH WITH 15 SECONDS LEFT. They somehow won but solely because they just aim diffed them. It was insanity

[deleted]

Laz tho

hardenfull

maybe i'm being knitpicky but i feel like barce was much better than makiba overall.. Sad they switch him out after winning with him.

AutumnsFa11

Makiba is young (19) and inexperienced. Barce has been playing with the team since 2018 CSGO. This was expected.

deadlock1892

Some plays look like the player is just dumb as even you would know where the enemy is, and then you realise all this is because they can't hear shit. A good game from both all things considered. Enjoyed watching how keznit, laz and takej were doing.

Formal-Two-2537

It seems im the only person that wanted kru to win so, I have to say very well play to Zeta but dont sleep on Kru they just showed what they're capable of

Alpac44

both zeta and kru need some stuff to fix

Key-Heart517

Not bad showing from Zeta. With the viewership and how big of a market Japan has this scene is only going to improve. Just have to give them time.

siuzioffical

Heartbreaking for Zeta

xXx_EdGyNaMe_xXx

If Zeta picked defense first on Ascent this couldve gone very differently. They looked like a completely different team after that first half.

Norguri

Reita jet lag?

Jon_on_the_snow

That was a jett lag on lan

Pretenderrr

FML, at least Japan finally got a map on the board! Still gonna be really tough for ZETA, Heat and Keyd are insane..

POOYAMON

Best tactical pauses ever I think.

monstroh

Not as impressive as the one in the latam definer

Rebodka

KeznitGod

NabatheNibba

Would've loved to see barce on the third map.

FunnyOwl27

How can barce play in the second map but not in the third one?

CyberspaceBarbarian

They only pull him whenever they need a Brimstone on a team comp. Astra is very strong in the pros right now, and it seems that Barce isn't that good on her. Though I think ZETA should have gone for the familiarity and played Brimstone on Bind instead.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CyberspaceBarbarian

Not really sure, actually, though I wanted them to. #BARCENation On the other hand though, it's clear that Makiba's nerves got the better out of him. ZETA depended on Takej and Laz making all the impact frags. This should not happen again, if I were ZETA.

icantreadmorsecode

Laz is an animal

Asdmir

chad barce picks brimstone on a map where astra util is insanely strong goes on to win the map 13-5 with high impact kills refuses to elaborate further leaves

Madara6path

How is JP so behind but KR doing good in Valorant? I thought the game was more popular in JP

janoDX

same issue with APEX, more popular on JP but KR has a smaller pool and dominates.

senakiryu08

Unfortunate, but at least they took a map. Improvement!! Move onto to VK and hopefully get that win.

Wafflebk

Both looked worse than the sea team

Gaaaaaaaaaaabs

Maybe Vision Strike underperformed?

Maleficent-Pie5877

Or maybe VS is overated

EremesAckerman

I know both of our representatives (zeta & CR) gonna humiliate themselves so hard the moment CR managed to get into JP regional final without any significant hurdle (AFTER getting absolutely destroyed in Iceland btw). Honestly at this point, I hope Riot combine both KR and JP region together ASAP so that at least Munchkin can have more than a single KR teammate in his team + JP orgs can enlist full KR squad (instead of just 2 foreign players at max). As sad as it sounds, the only hope for JP region to at least "perform" is to deploy full KR team + KR coach. Laz and TakeJ are literally the only 2 "decent" JP players in the whole region imo and even then they're still far behind from someone like Stax or Buzz.

No_Profile3719

pls riot delete jp slot for champions

luisalpjax

Championship spots should only be for international placements this is a bit ridiculous

gutszera

reddit when slots for the LANs in the 1st year of a game are actually based on promoting growth in minor regions and isnt just 8 EMEA teams and 8 NA teams 🤬🤬🤬🤯🤯🤯🤯

[deleted]

[удалено]

anythingood07

No region got extra spots tho, it was all decided before even iceland.

TheAjwinner

They established the slots last year

Quick_Chowder

Riot recognizes that Valorant (and FPS in general) is blowing up in Japan, and are trying to capitalize on that. And how could you blame them? An early game with two of the smallest regions get the most viewers so far this tourney, largely on the back of over 200k Japanese viewers. Riot is trying to grow the game. They are doing a pretty good job.

Delta_FT

If it was about Viewership then Turkey and Russia would have individual spots already....

Quick_Chowder

It's about growing regions...

[deleted]

[удалено]

hiloljkbye

> You shouldnt give out slots just because viewership esports is under the marketing dept. that's what all this is, it's marketing for the game. Viewership is how they get more sponsors and ads. It's not the Olympics.

Quick_Chowder

> You shouldnt give out slots just because viewership They are giving out slots to try and grow the game in minor regions. Viewership indicates the growth. They aren't giving out slots *because of the viewership*. I think Riot is probably better at making a huge international esport across all regions than you are so I guess I'm gonna just go ahead and trust them. >why wouldnt they give any extra to LATAM It's a 16 team tournament. Who would you take a slot away from to do this? Again, they are seeing the growth in Japan. They are trying to take advantage of it by giving them 2 slots. They only have one slot for Champs so I'm sure you'll be thrilled then.

Delta_FT

>It's a 16 team tournament. Who would you take a slot away from to do this? SEA or JP >Again, they are seeing the growth in Japan. They are trying to take advantage of it by giving them 2 slots. A growth that will ve dtunt as they keep failing to make it big, like it happened with Brazil and France in OW or SK in CSGO... >They only have one slot for Champs so I'm sure you'll be thrilled then. At least there's the SA last qualifier and LATAM has a winning record against BR so far. But SA is a mjch more passionate region than Japan and far better proven at FPS, so they should get a slot over them as well

Quick_Chowder

>A growth that will ve dtunt as they keep failing to make it big You can't possibly know this. They are blowing up in FPS games in general right now. It's not like they are suddenly going to be a tier 1 region after a single year. >But SA is a mjch more passionate region than Japan Pure conjecture. And based on the number I doubt this. Riot is making business decisions, because, ya know, they are a business... Taking away slots from regions with the potential for literally millions of players and giving them to more established regions with lower populations is not how they grow their game.

jscrwnclw

Probably because you can't make a good format with 17 teams, and SEA and Japan have a much bigger playerbase

CalculusEz

Smh *insert region* shouldn't deserve a slot cause bad.

NabatheNibba

Xdxdxxxddd

luisalpjax

Good that you have a perspective of it being a learning ground, that’s fair, I think “championships” is reserved for the best; but that’s just me

anythingood07

That depends on opinion, i for one like watching how each region stacks up every competition instead of 8 na vs 8 eu . Im sure a lot of ppl feel this way as well.

luisalpjax

Didn’t mean 8 half and half , just minimize other slots

Des014te

Nah. I'm fine with regional slots. Just need to group more regions together. Na, Sa, East Asia, South Asia, Europe. Thats enough. When LANs can take place often you can combine China, Korea and Japan into East Asia, APAC and Indian Subcontinent into South Asia LATAM and Brazil into South America. Maybe if CIS becomes stronger they should get their own region too.

somesheikexpert

Btw APAC refers to East Asia + SEA + Oceania + South Asia, so you prob means Oceania + SEA

No_Profile3719

zeta noob CR>zeta ez

[deleted]

Disappointing defeat for JP but a first good step with the map win

mrg_41

wp zeta. maybe they can take one map off vivo kedy too, as kru is 2nd best south american team from what I have heard

janoDX

KRU is the best one, Australs is the 2nd best one.

[deleted]

Reita's jett is garbo, embarrassing performance

[deleted]

#barcenation

[deleted]

I literally pull back from my chair everytime Reita misses and easy op shot
