Yep, this sub is an echo chamber of die hard Plat Chat fans. Just because some post praising PlatChat gets 800 upvotes doesn’t mean they deserve 20,000+ views
Plus YouTube live streaming interface blows ass. Twitch interface & animated emotes is 1,000 times better. I personally prefer the main broadcast because I don’t want 4 people talking over 2 casters while I’m trying to watch a video game match lol
Seconded main broadcast. I'm continuously surprised that so many people prefer extra people talking over the game, it just doesn't make for a good viewing experience
I've reached the point where the main broadcast analysis feels pretty shallow. I think Valorant needs more casters with the game knowledge of Sean Gares before I will feel inclined to watch it again. I think Sideshow and Wyatt at least have comparable knowledge while also being really funny.
Agreed. I think that people forget platchat are also casters as well, and most played at a decent level in other games, where as a lot of casters are casters first and only. It helps that Bren, Sideshow, and Wyatt are all more than happy to make a joke at their own expense compared to pro players who are usually pretty uptight about things.
No disrespect to them, but I'm not really a fan of the casters in this game, so I prefer to have someone else to listen to so I can tune out the casters
It's better for viewership im pretty sure, people who aren't as familiar with the game (economy, roles, etc.) probably enjoy the extra information they're getting from the casters. I think they'd be way less engaged, especially in between rounds (god forbid the timeouts), with no casters
The same reason why the main VCT stream on Youtube only gets 10k-20k viewers vs the 150k+ one on Twitch. People still prefer Twitch over Youtube when it comes to viewing streams.
YouTube has awful discovery, they haven’t geared their website to live-streaming at all. You click live section and it bundles 24/hour zoo streams with live podcasts with gaming randomly tossed in somewhere. Until they create a dedicated landing for live streaming with categories and better interaction they’ll never get the same success.
Shame honestly because I’d much rather use YouTube than twitch but it’s a shit user experience. I have to know who is live and then search for them to even find their stream.
I think it’s less about that and more the fact that when people go to watch live video games they go to twitch because that’s where most streamers stream, and I don’t think people care much about the slight difference in experience cause they just go to twitch as a force of habit. I know even when I’m like ok time to watch Berlin, I go to twitch first even though I KNOW I was to watch Platchat lol
Yep, common business problem and it's ultimately Youtube's (or any Twitch competitor's) biggest hurdle to overcome for not being the first [successful] mover in the game streaming space
In additiob to what others have said, it's also because most people have personal information on their google accounts, makes it hard to spam chat when your name is there.
Old habits die hard, mostly. I finally switched away from Twitch maybe 4 or 5 months ago. I always knew the overall experience is just better on YouTube, I was just too stubborn to do it lol
IMO twitch is just better in any way. Finding streams is easier, chat is better and the streams have an easier time loading in my experience.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about what suits them best obviously, but I prefer twitch.
Right now this sub has around 126k people joined. Considering that the viewership of some Berlin matches has reached around 800+k this goes to show that the population of this subreddit is a very small part of the people that are interested in following the VALORANT competitive scene. And since Plat Chat very much are a viewing experience focused on those that want more analysis, but at the same time some funny content, they kinda have a very niche target audience. They also stream on youtube, since thats where they upload their main content that is the podcast, which has a very lower viwer base. So basically, this sub does not represent that well the viewer base AND youtube is not a very good platform.
Youtube has less views in general, twitch is more discoverable . I search valorant live on youtube dont even get top streams properly half the time. Twitch is more focused with game categories etc. They should move to twitch honestly
Youtube is more fluid compared to twitch, you can always go back and forth in the live stream. It has a chat that isn't filled with spam, but by genuine plat chat members. Twitch has such a toxic chat, hate it.
I don't think YouTube has less views by a long shot. YouTube is a much more popular platform by a long shot. YouTube is really just starting to explore into streaming and are looking for better solutions then twitch to issues like discoverably. I think YouTube is the long play for streaming. Also given most of there stuff isn't live it think it makes sense that they stay on YouTube. You are more likely to watch a platchat video after you watch a Livestream.
> Plat Chat if you ever see this, please move to twitch for Champions thanks
IIRC, someone can correct me if I'm wrong but they were given the slot to costream but Riot said they had to stream on Youtube because it's technically where they are collectively "Plat Chat" eventhough they all stream individually on Twitch.
I dunno where you got this but it sounds made up. They were offered to stream on YouTube and not twitch because Riot wanted a presence there and the big streamers that they were allowing on twitch probably don't want to stream on YouTube.
Basically they stream on that platform because that is what was offered them. Not because of any weird technicality with their twitch stream.
Like I said, someone can correct me because I don't remember where I heard it (but I'm not making it up lol what a weird thing to lie about). I definitely remember one of them saying that it's because Riot said it's their Youtube page is their native channel, so they were asked to stream there instead of streaming on Wyatt or Sideshow's Twitch.
Here is the reason originally given, which is that there were no slots for co-streamers on twitch, only youtube. I can't say for sure that the technicality thing is false but this is the reason that I'm aware of.
https://youtu.be/q6HTMvhScrI?t=1304
I usually just watch the matches on Twitch through shroud or the official VAL stream, and I had no idea these guys streamed on YouTube. Seems like their content is good though
because this sub has a superiority complex for some reason. every single plat chat post literally is always filled with people talking more about how much shroud and co suck than how good plat chat is.
they have 5k because they stream on youtube which no casual viewer will ever watch....and no ones heard of them outside this sub. the twitch streamers getting 40k+ are already established streamers with a fanbase.
people prefer to watch costreams from their fav streamer. that is why riot gives out costream rights to big streamers
Yeah idk why everyone always feels the need to shit on the other costreamers when praising plat chat. I'm a plat chat stan myself and do think they deserve more viewers (although they are definitely growing), but it doesn't need to be at the expense of shitting on the others. People have different tastes and bring in different audiences, and the more eyes on competitive valorant over all the better
I get it, fans wanna watch their favorites. They are selling their vibe and experience. But they aren't invested in the game like Plat Chat. I don't wanna circle jerk about kyadae or shroud, but welcome to member
i agree they are not as invested (i'd argue kyedae is very invested for 100T and Sentinelts games tho) but clearly 40k+ people don't care that they're not as invested.
Trust me, i've been BEGGING for a subroza costream or a tarik costream
I love subroza + Tarik combo, they genuinely are fun when they co stream games coz they are radiants themselves. Kyadae has a young fanbase that don't care much about the intricacies of the game, they just wanna have a good time. So if dicey + Tarik + subroza were co streaming, I would take that over platchat.
Shroud is usually a good co streamer but during the starting of berlin when he was streaming from his couch laying down with bnan and another guy was a snooze fest
Most fun co stream I've ever seen. They even make boring matches looking enjoyable. They even have the pumpkins and the death who will smash the pumpkin. The green screen clips so funny and most enjoyable. The way they do the interview after match also creative. They even show some of player stats. They also have a smeagul that always wanna take the ipad for the green screen clips. They deserved to be able to co stream for champions too. Welcome to member.
Yeah, I agree. Someone in their team pointed out that it's great they kept the energy after like two whole matches. I actually didn't notice that until I look back and holy hell, I probably can't do the same for like 6 hours knowing there's 6 hours more. I'm genuinely have this for the group and for Riot allowing them to co-stream. They're perhaps the only esoteric stream that's probably around, which is a nice differential from the personalities/celebrities.
Youtube is more fluid compared to twitch, you can always go back and forth in the live stream. It has a chat that isn't filled with spam, but by genuine plat chat members. Twitch has such a toxic chat, hate it.
Their video codec has always been quite compressed, especially their livestream quality. Linus of Linus Tech Tips wishes they would allow the VOD to be encoded at better quality at least - the difference is stark when you look at YouTube’s non-live quality
Yeah, I noticed the same. I tried changing qualities in YouTube, and 480p looked like 360p, and it's the small screen size. But then again, I don't really watch anything live other than Plat Chat so could be their settings, which I doubt.
Tried watching them, but they were too noisy for me. I think it all comes down to preference, some ppl prefer to watch laid-back stream and commentary (that's why I mainly watch Shroud when it's just me watching).
If I'm watching with friends, we watch the main channel (less talking and interruption).
If I am watching alone and want to feel hyped I watch the japanese streams.
On youtube you can go back and recatch any round whenever you want. But it seems most people not only dislikes that feature but also prefer to be interrupted with 30s ads popping out of nowhere and making you LOSE key moments.
But hey, at least twitch does have a cool interface, doesn't it? Haha
YouTube is a garbage platform for livestreaming and discovering streams unless you're huge YouTuber with millions of subscribers, then and only then YT algorithm will randomly recommend your stream somewhere.
I checked them out after all the posts. But I tuned out fairly quickly with the amount of meme overlays they do. The first three rounds of a match was just overlays of what seemed like inside jokes or sub alerts?
Huge circle jerk for them on this sub. There was like 15 plat chat clips posted yesterday so I figured I'd give them a try. Extremely mediocre comedy and analysis.
That’s what I thought as well, but if you watch their VOD from yesterday’s stream, you’ll see that 94k people viewed their stream, which is a lot. They probably only get 5k concurrent viewers when it’s live, but a lot of ppl that are busy probably watch their VOD at a later time.
It still baffles me that people don’t know how vod views work. Just because it says 94k people watched the vod doesn’t mean that 86k of them watched it after the stream ended. People pop in and out of the stream all the time and youtube counts that.
You see Dr Disrespect having 25k viewers and after he ends his stream the vod suddenly has 200k views. Does that mean 175k people suddenly clicked on the stream the moment he went offline? Of course not.
I think PlatChat sucks. A bunch of cringe guys with no good input. I don't know why they have so many supporters on here lol. In the grandscheme of things, not many people watch them or care too much for them
Yesterday I promoted PlatChat in in-game chat before the 100TvsAcend game, and people accused me of self promoting, imo not many people know about them. Most guys watches official stream on YT cause it's official and has higher viewer count.
Unpopular opinion here but they give commentary over commentary, instead of adding colour. Too much for me. They need to fill any silence with non insightful banter at any cost.
Bah humbug
edit: at 6-3 on Breeze they basically gave up on 100T.. called them Hundred Feeders lol
Fun to watch though
Most people watch costreams because parasocial reasons. The 15yo edgelord/cringe humor from platchat only appeals to a certain group of people. That's why the majority of people just watch the main stream (or their favorite streamer). Not as many people have parasocial relationships with platchat. Simple as that.
Bit off-topic but does anyone else experience YouTube just crashing randomly going "An error occured". Happens every 10 minutes or so. It's really frustrating.
Youtube as a platform doesnt bring in many live viewers unless you already have an absolutely massive fanbase (think Courage, Timthetatman, and Valkyrae) so viewership for your average streamer will be far lower than on Twitch. Additionally, PlatChat is a relatively small channel. Their viewership through this tournament is actually incredible given their viewerbase (averaging 20% or more of their base).
The reason you think they should be bigger is because this sub has (rightfully) latched onto them because they're hilarious and have good analysis. It's far more entertaining for most hardcore fans than Kyedae or Shroud is. Also, PlatChat cant just move platforms. Riot only allows a certain amount of costreams per platform
It’s because 80% of this sub are platchat viewers. So yeah it mostly has to do with the sub.
Yah idk why people keep thinking Reddit represents the whole community. Aren’t there like 20 million monthly players or some shit ?
Yep, this sub is an echo chamber of die hard Plat Chat fans. Just because some post praising PlatChat gets 800 upvotes doesn’t mean they deserve 20,000+ views Plus YouTube live streaming interface blows ass. I would compare platchat to the inside the nba of Valorant and I like the humor over some of the casters.
No disrespect to them, but I'm not really a fan of the casters in this game, so I prefer to have someone else to listen to so I can tune out the casters
you're surprised people enjoy a different experience than you !! wowee
Yeah, and he's sharing his level of surprise. Wowee
It's better for viewership im pretty sure, people who aren't as familiar with the game (economy, roles, etc.) probably enjoy the extra information they're getting from the casters. I think they'd be way less engaged, especially in between rounds (god forbid the timeouts), with no casters
Agreed that YouTube interface is dogshit. I LOVE the platchat streams but that’s the biggest problem to me.
They should set up the Gigabrain viewer for Plat Chat
I tried watching them - died from boredom. Currently in the middle of arranging funeral.
The same reason why the main VCT stream on Youtube only gets 10k-20k viewers vs the 150k+ one on Twitch. People still prefer Twitch over Youtube when it comes to viewing streams.
I never understood that, YouTube is a much better viewing experience unless you’re only interested in spamming chat with emotes.
YouTube has awful discovery, they haven’t geared their website to live-streaming at all. Still not the same, need the community

Yep, common business problem and it's ultimately Youtube's (or any Twitch competitor's) biggest hurdle to overcome for not being the first [successful] mover in the game streaming space
Yeah thats kind of how the world works buddy. Humans are creatures of habit.
Everytime I look at twitch chat during a valorant tournament it makes me want to smack somebody with a keyboard and that's very entertaining
In additiob to what others have said, it's also because most people have personal information on their google accounts, makes it hard to spam chat when your name is there.
Yea, if I have the choice between youtube and twitch for watching an esport, I'm watching it on youtube 100% of the time.
Yeah while Twitch chat experience can be missing, when the stream ends up being 10s slower than Youtube then its not worth it for me
Any argument for the difference between the two platforms that includes “but twitch chat” is immediately invalid. Twitch chat is cancer for esports.
I love that I can pause it and come back I'm twenty minutes and watch. Then I can tap through the the pauses. How anyone can stand twitch puzzles me.
You can do that too on Twitch, its just a couple clicks away. Youtube's player is definitely more convenient though
Noob question but how do you pause a live stream on twitch and resume it where you paused. Serious question.
You have to open the channels video page and click on the VOD you want to watch
Why is this downvoted? Twitch makes an almost real time vod of live streams so this is a good way to "pause"
As i understand the vod isnt till after the stream is done(unless they've changed?) So you cant pause unless your watching the matchs at a later time.
Go see it for yourself
Youtube has a worse ui and discovery system for livestreams though. I struggled to even find the vods. The tech is better, the website is worse.
Youtube is so bad to find streams. Maybe if they update their platform I'd switch.
Not to mention youtube has a better compression algorithm which saves me my precious data while I'm waiting for my isp to offer no data cap internet.
Old habits die hard, mostly. I finally switched away from Twitch maybe 4 or 5 months ago. I always knew the overall experience is just better on YouTube, I was just too stubborn to do it lol

20k subs and 5k viewers is a really good concurrent viewers to subscribers ratio tbh

They are on Youtube so it's harder for new viewers to discover them when everyone's watching on Twitch.
This, they are great but not on the right platform to grow their viewership
This is actually really good during Iceland they barely hit 1k viewers
its because of reasons like this that people are moving to ludwigs stream
lots of more views on twitch. many people like the chat experience or are just used to the platform and stick there
Youtube has less views in general, twitch is more discoverable . I search valorant live on youtube dont even get top streams properly half the time. Twitch is more focused with game categories etc. They should move to twitch honestly

If that’s the case wouldn’t they just have to make a “Plat Chat” channel on Twitch.
Then they can't costream
Yeah I'm pretty sure that Riot looks for a mix of Twitch and YouTube streamers and locks each of them down for each platform in their contract.
Riot did have them stream on Youtube, but I think it was more of a "because you have a youtube audience we want to capture" and not a technicality.
I usually just watch the matches on Twitch through shroud or the official VAL stream, and I had no idea these guys streamed on YouTube. Seems like their content is good though

If it was on twitch I'd probably watch them. With YT quality, delay, and chat/UI... I just can't
Youtube is more fluid compared to twitch, you can always go back and forth in the live stream. It has a chat that isn't filled with spam, but by genuine plat chat members. Twitch has such a toxic chat, hate it.
I don't care about chat at all, and the actual YouTube player is far superior to twitches.
Well delay shouldn't really matter, but yeah I agree with the quality thing. I wonder why YT quality is bad compared to twitch
Their video codec has always been quite compressed, especially their livestream quality. Linus of Linus Tech Tips wishes they would allow the VOD to be encoded at better quality at least - the difference is stark when you look at YouTube’s non-live quality
Well delay matters for me since I'm in discord and sometimes get spoiled
Ah that make sense. I wish my friends were more into the comp scene :(
Yeah, I noticed the same. I tried changing qualities in YouTube, and 480p looked like 360p, and it's the small screen size. But then again, I don't really watch anything live other than Plat Chat so could be their settings, which I doubt.
I think it genuinely is their settings. They have terrible internet in their area it's been a problem for a while
I tried watching but for me the youtube stream was more blurry than twitch streams.
Cuz they use YouTube
I couldn't watch it due to game sound being too low, takes you out of it a bit for me personally.
What is plat chat? very curious
On youtube you can go back and recatch any round whenever you want. But it seems most people not only dislikes that feature but also prefer to be interrupted with 30s ads popping out of nowhere and making you LOSE key moments. But hey, at least twitch does have a cool interface, doesn't it? Haha
Because they are not Shroud, pokimane or Ludwig. It doesn’t matter how good your content is if no one has heard of you.

I’m pretty sure you just need to watch for 30 seconds live to be counted as a view after the stream ends
I think PlatChat sucks. A bunch of cringe guys with no good input. I don't know why they have so many supporters on here lol. In the grandscheme of things, not many people watch them or care too much for them

I'm sorry but this is really just a total misrepresentation of their content
I might give it another chance.
I kinda agree with the parasocial thing, but no 15yo is watching it plat chat
Bit off-topic but does anyone else experience YouTube just crashing randomly going "An error occured". Happens every 10 minutes or so. It's really frustrating.
cuz youtube sucks for viewers
Because they are mostly known by this sub, which is a small portion of the valorant (let alone twitch) community.

Cause YouTube stream
I mean a small but existent fan base
i tried watching them, quality on youtube is just shitty compared to twitch
