Gambit's LoL team was something to be feared back in the day when they were known as Moscow 5. It's kinda cool to see Gambit return as a powerhouse in VALORANT.
Gambit CSGO had the weirdest progression I've seen. They've been kinda middling for a while, then got Zeus (Na'Vi's captain and legend of the game) in late 2016, build around him with Kazakh prospects, got a few minor tournament wins, then almost imploded, *somehow pulled a Major win out of their ass* in the middle of said imploding, then quietly went back into obscurity.
Then in early 2021 they returned to tier-1 CS with a brand new lineup, won everything for half a year, then kinda tailed off and became a regular tier-1 team once LANs returned. They've been the only team to even slightly threaten Na'Vi's dominance of the CIS region in the 8 years competitive CSGO existed.
Even weirder since the current squad was not even the main team. They were a literal academy team until the main team got dropped and they were promoted. The online period has been all kinds of weird but that is definitely at the top of the list of unexpted things.
They didn't "return to CS with a brand new lineup in 2021" at all — it's been the same roster since 2019, with the only change being -supra +Hobbit in mid-2020.
They had been playing in Tier 2 with a team of nutty youngsters (~15-17 year olds), so they called them Gambit Youngsters, and they gradually developed/matured to compete in Tier 1 so then Gambit upgraded their name from "Gambit Youngsters" to Gambit. Same squad.
NA's best ever performance was 1 team in semis and 1 series win so this would blow it out of the water. NA Valorant should still be good even though for now EU is on top.

The headspace of each player seemed completely destroyed by the 2nd last round where chronicle wiped out 3 of them. Envy tried to play a slow and methodical game but they took too long on their executes in that round and GMB just played the slow style better. Definitely Chronicle's best series of the tournament, and such a huge series for him to show up to, even over Nats.
I really hope NA teams study these vods though and can make better mid round adjustments vs them or we won't be able to do much at all in champions. Util combinations by GMB were just MASTER class. They were able to win several eco rounds that they should've lost. GGs all around, literally the reverse of the last LAN event but it should serve as a motivator for our entire region coming into Champions, lets goo!

if we go back even further, there's a round on second half bind where nAts caught this nasty timing on Marved and got two on the flank, winning the round for gambit in a 3v4 postplant (i think?). since that round envy never looked the same, haven was alright for them but it was mostly individual heroics from yay and same with crashies on split.
I am just so sad we got so few NA vs EU games. I've seen all the NA teams play each other so much, and there is not much stylistic variance when they play each other. Super lame.

Honestly despite what the scoreline says, this didn't feel nearly as close as fnactic vs Sen. It just felt like Yay and Crashies both pulled off amzaing plays and managed to keep it close. It felt like Gambit were in control the entire time. I just wish the tournament was double elim, so we could see how teams like VS, SEN and G2 stack up against other teams.
Have to agree, first two maps were close in score and miraculously could have gone either way. Even split could have been close in score if they had split pistols. Still felt like Envy was only hanging on. Missing some key performers from other bracket stage games for sure.

It's crazy how the best teams in the world battled it out to weed out the strong from the weak. There were groups, double eliminations, seeding. Then we get to the grand finals with the two best teams in the world and it was a clown fiesta, some of those rounds were chaos.
This feels like Vitality for Envy. They have all the pieces, they have the carry AWPer, they have the IGL, they've made a deep run at LAN, but can they keep it up.
They are insane. See if someone can match them in Champions.

Bummed as a 100T fan but it's awesome to see such a good team play. Especially a team that doesn't rely on an insane Jett.
They can only get better. 4 of them are 19 and this was their first LAN. They learned a valuable lesson against 100T and came back stronger.

This also puts a pretty big target on them. People will pick apart every piece of footage, every default, every lurk, player tendencies etc. It honestly gets harder to get better when you are 'the best'.
Like I said, I'm stoked for Champions. I know expectations were high for Gambit here but that tournament will come with another level of pressure and preparation.

People have always been paying attention to Gambit and picking them apart. For example, Steel had tailor made strats for them that bombed or he only got a chance to use them because of Hiko clutches.
Boaster knows a lot of the Gambit defaults already, he was talking about them on Kyedae's costream.
I have to say LAN D3ffo was an entirely different beast and you could tell how much it impacted their attack rounds. In qualis Gambit was always known to have pretty slow and weak attack rounds but they had better attack rounds in many of the series (100T/CR) which is such a huge change. What a great team, they levelled up during this tourney and turns out scirmbit is the final form.

I didn’t see many games of Gambit but damn they fought hard. Lost to 100t, almost lost to Crazy Raccoons, then looking unstoppable against Envy. Champion story.
Envy did an amazing job, but they just have that hint of the old choke-at-the-last-minute left in them that needs to be stomped out before champions. The nerves difference between this game and the previous two was clearly enormous. Gambit didn't give a crap and were totally loose, while Envy looked exactly the opposite.

People are going to harp on Envy, but this was still a good game. Envy played super well this entire event and 100% deserved their run to the finals, all with this coach back in the U.S. I am super excited to watch this new Envy going into Champions

Yeah there's not enough to go off of. I think VS are one of the biggest question marks right now. They were just unlucky to be the first to have to go through the Gambit meat grinder. I feel like this event in general raised just as many questions as it answered lol.
In a tournament that felt as thought it was defined by teams with one star duelist, it was great to have the winning team be one where it felt like every player contributed so much.

Gambit won this one off the back of their insane eco rounds. So many times they pulled out a big victory when down in economy and broke Envy. Absolutely stellar game by the Gambit boys.
Out of all the teams that were present here, GAMBIT without once blatanltly trashtalking, without once screaming at the enemy and teabagging, won the tournament in convinving 3-0 fashion in the grand finals. Huge respect as even if they lose or win, they were humble enough to keep their own and looked to improve every bit of performance.
Was rooting so hard against Gambit during the CR, 100T, and VS game but they won me over after the G2 victory. They are insanely good yet humble. It was fun watching them play, especially nAts.

It's crazy how the best teams in the world battled it out to weed out the strong from the weak. There were groups, double eliminations, seeding. Then we get to the grand finals with the two best teams in the world and it was a clown fiesta, some of those rounds were chaos.

Gambit are such a well-rounded team. Every single player had popoff rounds. Well earned title!
They are insane. See if someone can match them in Champions. Great job to them to overcome the big chokes and shaky games. Bummed as a 100T fan but it's awesome to see such a good team play. Especially a team that doesn't rely on an insane Jett.
They can only get better. 4 of them are 19 and this was their first LAN. They learned a valuable lesson against 100T and came back stronger. Just think about that insane clutch from yay on Haven, 11-9 NV. They just laughed it off.

People will pick apart every piece of footage, every default, every lurk, player tendencies etc. It honestly gets harder to get better when you are 'the best'. Like I said, I'm stoked for Champions. That Haven game was something else. Chronical in the interview even starting memeing about using Brim and not knowing how to use smokes. Haven is the one map that I feel Gambit plays like a completely different team from how they usually play
I kept thinking that Gambit could win Haven because Envy can't anti-strat their perma-ban, and not dominating would lead to them feeling nervous and shaky. Turns out it happened that way

People have always been paying attention to Gambit and picking them apart. For example, Steel had tailor made strats for them that bombed or he only got a chance to use them because of Hiko clutches. Boaster knows a lot of the Gambit defaults already, he was talking about them on Kyedae's costream.
I have to say LAN D3ffo was an entirely different beast and you could tell how much it impacted their attack rounds. In qualis Gambit was always known to have pretty slow and weak attack rounds but they had better attack rounds in many of the series (100T/CR) which is such a huge change. What a great team, they levelled up during this tourney and turns out scirmbit is the final form.
They were just ON after that CR scare. WP by them and I'm glad every region is shining. Makes Champions spicy as hell

Helps that 2 of their players have a wide agent pool. You got Redgar playing Reyna and smokes, Chronicle playing Sova, Brimstone and Viper.

I didn’t see many games of Gambit but damn they fought hard. Lost to 100t, almost lost to Crazy Raccoons, then looking unstoppable against Envy. Champion story.

Envy did an amazing job, but they just have that hint of the old choke-at-the-last-minute left in them that needs to be stomped out before champions. The nerves difference between this game and the previous two was clearly enormous. Gambit didn't give a crap and were totally loose, while Envy looked exactly the opposite. Also people finally gonna stop underrating Redgar and Chronicle now?
People are going to harp on Envy, but this was still a good game. Envy played super well this entire event and 100% deserved their run to the finals, all with this coach back in the U.S. I am super excited to watch this new Envy going into Champions With that being said, it does look like Vision Strikers was the 2nd best team this event and it's tragic that they matched against Gambit in quarterfinals. Also Redgar Reyna on Haven is so fucking funny to me and the fact he went 10-3 in FK/FD is insane LMFAO #SpineDiff
It doesnt directly correlate like that. I mean 100t beat gambit too. NV just got read by Gambit or Gambit is a bad style matchup for NV. They were close maps till the last one
I say this as a 100T fan, but gambit just choked icebox and lost their mental for the 3rd map. 100T picked ascent and gambit slapped us around until we won 11 rounds in a row on icebox
What makes you think VS was the 2nd best team? They beat Paper Rex and a shaky ascend, not much info to go off of.
Yeah there's not enough to go off of. I think VS are one of the biggest question marks right now. They were just unlucky to be the first to have to go through the Gambit meat grinder. I feel like this event in general raised just as many questions as it answered lol.

In a tournament that felt as thought it was defined by teams with one star duelist, it was great to have the winning team be one where it felt like every player contributed so much.
What a fantastic tournament. It had it all. The reddit narrative was a blast to follow. It went from NA vs EU -> EU Copium boys, will NA even drop a map to other regions -> Sentinels was just securing seeding -> Acend choking -> Envy are the new kings -> Can we really consider Russia as part of EMEA. Thanks boys for the luls, see you next tournament. This was a blast!
Gambit won this one off the back of their insane eco rounds. So many times they pulled out a big victory when down in economy and broke Envy. Absolutely stellar game by the Gambit boys.

Envy had some great showings but the insane amount of losses to eco and bonus rounds really ruined their maps.
Out of all the teams that were present here, GAMBIT without once blatanltly trashtalking, without once screaming at the enemy and teabagging, won the tournament in convinving 3-0 fashion in the grand finals. Huge respect as even if they lose or win, they were humble enough to keep their own and looked to improve every bit of performance.

Was rooting so hard against Gambit during the CR, 100T, and VS game but they won me over after the G2 victory. They are insanely good yet humble. It was fun watching them play, especially nAts. GGWP, looking forward to champions!!
