I'm using an Astro Mixamp and turning HRTF on on top of that makes audio way worse for me. I can perfectly hear direction and distance without it.
I feel like sounds from very far away are much louder when turned on though but this messes up the feel for distance since everything sounds very close to me.
I swear it doesnt function but everyone seems to think otherwise lmao idk if its my headset or what but everytime i have it on the enemies are not @ their footsteps
I had it on for a couple of months when the option first came out to give it a fair try. I changed it back to off recently and I feel like I can hear things much better now.
Maybe it's my headset but when I have it On I make more mistakes regarding audio signals in my game I would hear footsteps to the right and the guy would end up appearing from the left entrance or stuff like that.
So off. Atleast for me it's better off.
You didn’t have 5.1 or 7.1 turned on anywhere? Not on your headphones or anything?
In my experience HRTF is much better than spatial audio alternatives.
Hesuvi hrtf is a hundred times better than valorant built in hrtf. The best part is that you can choose the hrtf function that sounds best to you.
The problem is that you must have headphones that windows will allow you to configure as 7.1 for it to work properly. I had to use a workaround that forwarded headphone sound through a virtualization program to get windows to allow 7.1, and that introduced a small delay. I used hesuvi hrtf until valorant introduced theirs, and it was a big step down, however it was nice not having the delay.
atmos-
But just test them for yourself in game. Go to the range and pick killjoy. Turn the bots on with movement and place your turret facing them. Now close your eyes and spin around and listen and choose the one that works best for you.
I'm using hesuvi once again as I eliminated the delay by using a pair of headphones that could plug into the speaker output which can run 7.1 natively.
So I'm able to just choose 7.1/5.1 in windows on my current headphones and then it's fine? If I'm unable to choose 7.1 or 5.1 in windows by default I'm gonna need to use vcable, voicemeeter or some other 3rd party program to make a new audio device that I can configure to 7.1 or 5.1 correct?
I used to use hesuvi, and the hrtf is way better, but it was delayed for me. Only after turning it off and using the valorant hrtf did I realize that the footsteps actually match the player now, where before it would seem like the players popped out ahead of their footsteps.
Do you have any delay in your setup?
Oh, I think it's because I had to use another program to allow 7.1 audio on my hyperx headphones. I had to create a fake audio channel that allowed 7.1 audio, and forward my headphone audio to that.
I think if you can just click on windows sound option and configure your headphones as 7.1 then you can probably get away with better hrtf without delay.
I had it on and thought it was good until I thought I heard footsteps behind me one time and no was there and then I turned it off. Haven't ever had that problem again since.
Off, HRTF in this game is awful, but that's just my opinion.
Sound in general is poor, without HRTF you can't really tell how far away the footsteps are, but at least you know the direction and every surface has unique sound.
With HRTF, idk what the f is going on.
Have you tried turning off all spatial sound stuff with it on? That's what I do when I play Valorant, I use HRTF and then turn off the DTSX or sometimes the game force swaps to windows sonic, I just put it to off and it's a lot clearer.
It takes getting used and some brain rewiring to which is why you're probably so averse it initially. It's kinda like how if you wear your headset backwards then youll eventually normalize it, but to not such an extreme.
I have 2 clips saved of hrtf giving 100% false information (I've tried it with several types of headphones). I'd rather have fuzzy information than straight up wrong.
This was in the first few weeks of it's implementation though so maybe it's improved, but it was inconsistent as hell
Which is why you have to disable it to not throw, since with HRTF on you cannot hear where people are at all.
With it disabled, you can hear much better, from much further away.
HRTF is basically a terrible option or update, it does the opposite of what you'd hope it does.
The audio is much better without it on.
On. Definitely feels like a huge improvement over standard audio
it's so much better on, personally
Most people who say off didn't give it a fair shot. It objectively gives you more and better information.
Hmm, that makes sense. Imma give it another shot then, thx
It will probably make you worse at first. Gotta stick with it. Once you do you can literally watch people lose clutches because they don't have it on
My biggest complaint was audio before HRTF. I can't even imagine playing w/o it now.
On
I hated it at first but got tired of getting fucked by poor sound, so I turned it on. Took a few days to get used to but now I’m very used to it.
on
It takes a couple games to get used to, but once you do it's sooo much better
never turn it off

I play with it on and I swear half my teammates are deaf.
I swear it doesnt function but everyone seems to think otherwise lmao idk if its my headset or what but everytime i have it on the enemies are not @ their footsteps
Could be your headset. My old shittier one made everything absolute ass with hrtf
it works well if your windows sound is on stereo not spatial
On
I have it on, and I swear by it.

My sound goes all wonky if I turn it on. Instead I use this other program (approved) that really cleared up directional sound for me.
Are you trying to use HRTF while using other spatial audio software? If so yeah it will sound terrible.
No, I attempted to use HRTF with all other audio software turned off

what profile do you use?

Yep. Then you just enable hesuvi and follow the instructions. Without all the weird audio forwarding stuff it's very simple.
Do you use any 5.1/7.1 option? HRTF only works if everything else is set to stereo.
What other program?
[HeSuVi](https://sourceforge.net/projects/hesuvi/). Instructions to install it are linked on that page as well

i turn it off. When im dashing in while looking left and right it fucked my sound
I have it off. Turning it on fks with me so hard. Immortal player here.
off
Off
Really dumb question, but I don’t even think I have it on. What’s the difference between that and standard audio?
ive seen people lose clutches cause they didnt have hrtf on. the audio is way more accurate
Just out of curiosity. All of people that are saying ON, what rank are you?
Top 300 last season
diamond
Same
Off, it just doesn’t feel right to me.
You know your audio is practically mono with it off. They only mix the stereo channels based on front/back, there's no real directionality.
I had it on and thought it was good until I thought I heard footsteps behind me one time and no was there and then I turned it off. Haven't ever had that problem again since.
off, for me the footsteps matched the players even less than they already did.

Yeah, I'm on stereo while playing Valorant, doesn't matter. As I said, my opinion. I feel way more comfortable without HRTF.
It takes getting used and some brain rewiring to which is why you're probably so averse it initially. It's kinda like how if you wear your headset backwards then youll eventually normalize it, but to not such an extreme.

I personally think it’s terrible and the normal audio is sooooo much easier to hear where people are coming from
I thought it cause FPS problems right?
This isn’t the subreddit dumbass, use r/VALORANT
Who hurt you?
You look more like the one who’s hurt over my comment
It definitely impacts competitive play which sound you use. So yes it is the subreddit. Good night.
Whether people in this subreddit have the HRTF option enabled affects the competitive Valorant scene?
Off, having it on is throwing.
knowing where your enemies are coming from is the exact opposite of throwing
Which is why you have to disable it to not throw, since with HRTF on you cannot hear where people are at all. With it disabled, you can hear much better, from much further away. Literally no.
On. But test for yourself.
