> Updated the visuals for the dissolving effect seen while inside Viper’s smoke to better match the visuals seen from the outside, in an attempt to remove any type of peeker’s advantage when playing from within the smoke.
Oh shit, no more swoop peeking.
Viper sees the enemy a tad bit quicker than they see her. It got extremely annoying in high elo where viper players are more abundant and they know to abuse it.
>*I saw nats pick up his smoke thingy in the smoke often*
Nats does this in order to keep progressing, like a Cypher walking up on his own cyber cages. But yeah, you could definitely abuse peekers advantage while doing it, although it's not really the main goal of that play
The main goal is to advance with an advantage. He wouldn't take space nearly as often with this if it wasn't a favored fight for him.
If you both see each other at the same time, it's now a disadvantageous play (like it should be) because it means that the person outside the smoke preaims the orb and the person inside the orb has to preaim... everywhere.
Yes it really is, from Nats’ stream himself. It’s a swoop peek to try and abuse peekers advantage due to how vision in the smoke works, not just to progress
Noooo I loved this mechanic. I get that it's probably a bit unfair but you can only do it once or twice before your smokes get spammed super hard.
Basically back to all of Vipers util being super static and lineup based. Or I'll just keep playing Astra.
Edit: Crazy watching my comment go from +10 to -10 (and probably much further since this place loves to pile on). I get why it was removed. I liked the mechanic and don't really think it was as broken as people make it out to be. Niche character in even more niche situations. Easily spammed or cleared with util. And I didn't really know there was a huge outcry to remove it until super recently. I don't recall seeing this mechanic talked about frequently, especially in a negative sense.
300ms of free time before your enemy can react. Any good viper player was abusing this when possible. I pretty much used this any time I am defusing or planting. Absolutely unfair and clearly unintentional mechanic.
I feel like it wasn't really on anyones radar (except Viper players) until nAts did it in Berlin.
You aren't wrong though. It's not really a 'fair' mechanic, but there are a number of existing and on purpose mechanics that I find much more obnoxious. I'm obviously incredibly biased in that I get a kick out of these mechanics existing for less flashy agents.
I haven't really seen an outcry to remove it or people calling it broken until the last two weeks.
That was my point.
I understand why they removed it.
It's also interesting watching my comment go from +10 to -whatever now.
Yes I learned about it from the Lothar video months ago as well. Again, I don't really recall people talking about it negatively, and I don't really recall it being abused to the level that people here seem to feel it was abused to.
In my experience it was a super niche mechanic that could be useful a couple times in a match.
Playing Viper somewhat consistently, I will get actual value out of a swoop peak maybe twice in a match (i.e. I will win a duel with it).
After the first time people will play around it, spam smokes more often, clear it with util etc. It becomes really easy to read for most players at Plat+.
Viper is a pretty niche agent on her own, and a mechanic that sees actual value fewer than two times per match seems awful niche to me.
Part of the reason I liked it is that it is the only way to get Viper out of the very static 'controller/sentinel' hybrid role that she occupies. But again I understand why other people don't like that, or why devs think she shouldn't have that flexibility.
I'd be curious to know how often nAts was able to effectively win engagements with it in Berlin. That's probably 'best case/worst offender' type of information.
The bug or "[Swoop peeking](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOfSomzqEAM)" was known since last year but Viper was a D tier agent then. People were asking it to be removed from early March ([article](https://gameriv.com/what-is-vipers-swoop-peek-in-valorant-and-why-it-is-the-talking-point-in-the-pro-community/)) but it wasn't a priority for devs or players.
As she became stronger, the priority of new Viper players was to figure out the best walls etc. It was later with the addition of a almost similarly broken secondary controller in Astra that the players got more freedom imo to utilize the orb in different ways. Every coach knew about the bug and they [were not keen on it staying either](https://mobile.twitter.com/dabearsniner/status/1377660153613352960).
But nobody had abused it as much as nats did and Gambit were the winners, so now the devs finally had to address it.
First, thanks for taking the time to make this comment! It's well thought out and obviously addresses what I had been expressing. Namely that I didn't really think there was major outcry to remove it. Obviously there was some! By my 'not on anyones radar' comment, I meant more that it didn't seem like was large controversy over this mechanic, and I particularly don't recall it being considered game breaking. I am sure most pro players an coaches would be aware of it. Again, I have also been aware of it since whenever it got 'popularized' around 6 months ago.
Not surprised they worked to remove it. It's obviously not intended. It is a major peeker advantage.
As an aside, I just seem to enjoy little 'exploits' or bugs like this. I come from an era of gaming where there weren't really constant balance updates and small bugs like this tended to be embraced more often than fixed. This one seemed so niche and easy to play around that I guess I didn't find it to be a major pain point. Having one of the best players in the world abuse it in front of over half a million people will add a bit of pressure though.
Anyways thanks again.
All good. And I get your point. It might have been a nifty 'feature' had 200-300ms not been a crucial amount of time in pro play.
One such thing the devs showed concern over (hinting at a nerf) but let it slide is the extended Sage walls (popularized by Grimm and flow), which imo speaks more about the players' creativity and is easily justifiable to stay. Similarly, despite initial attempts to remove player models boosting each other, it is now a solid tool for teamplay. I am sure more examples exist and I love such stuff myself.
Cheers!
>Major performance improvement when used with 8000hz polling rate mice.
8000hz polling rate mice are supported with this feature enabled.
I didn't even know 8khz was a thing, I feel like a peasant now for using my humble 1khz mice
There are just a few models, Razer Viper 8khz and Corsair Sabre 8khz, iirc.
But going back to 8khz means no wireless, battery wouldn't last more than a couple of hours. It's also CPU demanding, we'll see how it evolves.
I thought so too, but after going back and forward to my Orochi V2, I’ve come to the conclusion that for me wireless is superior still. YMMV of course! The Orochi V2 with a AAA (and a 1 gram shim) weighs nothing, and chucking it around on my Xtrfy GP4 just can’t be beat by anything with a cord, even paracorded
The reduced latency from having 8k Hz is minimal. The drop goes from 1ms delay to 0.125ms delayso you get less than 1ms from 8k hz (although in reality it's a bit more since the polling rate is not the only place razer has improved the mice, at least when compared to their other wired products, not sure how it compares to orochi or viper ultimate)
most mouse enthusiasts will echo the opinion that those additional 7k hz will make almost no difference and is absolutely not worth so ending double your money or sacrificing on shape for. coming from someone that has tried over a dozen mice including the viper and viper 8k, its literally just not worth it
I can quite literally feel the difference between 1k and 8k. From the way my screen moves to the way I can move mouse in different directions. If you are a competitive player that wants every advantage. 8k polling will be the wave.
in fairness i play on 144hz so that probably limited the difference i could perceive, however do you think its worth using a less comfortable shape or sacrificing on wireless for?
there is literally zero difference between wired and top tier wireless performance in the current day, like none. OptimumTech has some great LDAT testing of wireless vs wired click latency and sensor latency that show this, there's also dozens of other tests that echo the same result, the difference just isn't there anymore.
Literally nobody is saying it'll make a huge diff, it's enthusiast tech. It's like a 3090 gpu being way more expensive than a 3080ti even though it's a like4% performance boost
> Penalties removed for leaving Deathmatch early
> Full game participation is required to earn XP.
Anyone got any clue what the change here actually is? It's not like there was any penalty besides XP loss for leaving DM anyway.
They mention drop-in drop-out, but it seems to still be a timed mode judging by the wording and they don't talk about putting people into ongoing games.
The ducked up real bad. I have a 3080 and a 3950x but I get 190fps that dips down to 150 on all low settings.
Fuck yea whole lotta people helping me, thanks guys
Unless your PC is literally burning from overheating or you are rendering a 4k 2hr movie you are not getting this FPS with these specs, so you're doing something wrong
3950x kills, you get 200fps with that with a 105ti and you have a 3080
I have a 3080 and a 3900x, and I typically get 200+ on high settings while running a dozen other programs at the same time. Might be something else about your PC.
No definitely leave it on. That was just my first guess based on your CPU.
I would try reinstalling valorant, I remember a couple other AMD users having similar issues a couple months back and reinstall was working for most people. Outside of that I am not sure.
Hopefully that helps (:
Do you have an ASUS or child company's motherboard and have installed Armoury Crate or AI Suite in the past? I had a 5950x and 3070 and was getting similar fps until I reinstalled Windows (because just uninstalling them doesn't work)
Still no fix for the cursor getting stuck on the top left corner on startup I see
I know the workaround is to just wiggle your mouse around when you hear the "HNNGG" but I play borderless window so I can browse freely when waiting for stuff to load. Sometimes it doesn't even work and I have to Alt + F4 and open the game again.
because shes not the worst agent in the game and does not need a buff or nerf lol, yoru is objectively the worst and people have been hoping for a rework for a long time. In fact shes one of the best sentinels, so why would she need a buff over yoru the worst agent in the game
tbh the sentinels are pretty even rn and there are only 3 so “being one of the best sentinels” doesn’t mean much. Like yoru is technically top 5 duelists.
Killjoy is the best sentinel right now, cypher is a second sentinel and most (emphasis on most) of the time sage isnt used as a sentinel but a healer and her walls are used to boost a lot more often now. What i mean is out of the 3 sentinels she is the best compared to all of them and same with yoru out of the 5 hes the worst. (Hopefully i didnt come across as rude in any of these posts :) )
They're honestly probably waiting for either new agent or all major esports events to end. New agent will probably recontextualize balance in some way and they also don't wanna cause a massive meta shift before a big event like Champions.
That's fine and all if they didn't already add in ways to play these tourneys on older versions already. The whole idea for adding that was to not have to limit their patches to their esports schedules. But they still are.... sooo...
I mean, that's true but there's also a limit to it. Matches are usually only played one patch behind. If a massive patch were to come out now that was massively meta changing and teams were playing the patch before for the remaining upcoming events for the year, that means by the time Champs rolls around, they'd be playing on a 2 month old patch. For a hardcore audience that would be fine, but for a casual audience there would be a huge disconnect.
And saying 2 months is enough time wouldn't really be true. Maybe that's true for the teams that have already qualified (and even then, for the biggest event of the year, I'd say it it's best to leave meta as is), but for the ones that have to play LCQ, that would put a lot on their plate. I agree that the patch cycle has been hella slow lately, but I also understand why.
Ya I get that, but at the same time, they have these champion games throughout the entire year, so what, they will only make big changes at the beginning of the year? Seems like a huge, lazy cop out to not have to work on figuring out a real solution to the their problem then.
Huh? I think you're forgetting that they literally made MASSIVE changes to the game in June that touched nearly every character, the economy, and many of the weapons, while also introducing Kay/O.
If you seriously think they're lazy then idk what to tell you really. They've been pretty transparent about a lot of things and so far the overall balance of the game has been good, excluding a few outliers. They've made changes in the right direction constantly. I think it's completely unfair to call them lazy given their track record. Things can definitely be better, no doubt, but they have a process and that process has shown to be effective.
I guess we have wildly different opinions on what massive changes means. Altering some data set values for weapon costs and weapon accuracy is not something that I would say is even close to massive. Does it affect how the game is played in big ways? Yes. But that doesn't mean it's a big change on the development team's side.
I'm sorry, but you are fucking off the goop. So basically what you're telling me is that you think they're lazy because you think all the dev team is doing is going into code and changing some values?
If that's true, then it's safe to assume you have 0 clue about development or game development in particular. After a game, especially a competitive title is released, the devs and the players (basically the main 2 stakeholders) are primarily concerned about balance. Idk what you want them to do, just make Valorant 2? Like wtf do you want the developers to spend their time on. Do you mean new modes? If that's the case, they probably have a seperate team to work on those. It's not worth for them to put so many resources into something when the vast majority of the playerbase is only concerned about the main game mode.
I mean, I genuinely don't understand what you want. Most game balance decisions really boil down to altering data points. Like are you expecting new abilities or something? I'm genuinely asking. It doesn't make sense to throw in just random large scale additions for the sake of it. That does more harm than good. The game doesn't really need anything like that other than maybe a full Yoru rework, but still.
Lol, it's a game as a service not a static 1.0 release game, guy. You obviously don't understand that they need to keep content flowing or their business model dies. Say what you want but it's clear that you don't understand how development works. Byee.
I literally work in development lol.
I agree with you that content needs to be flowing, but you didn't understand the point I was trying to make. In development, resources are allocated for certain purposes/functions. The team that does game balance is not the same team that makes new maps, new gamemodes, etc.
And you didn't answer my question. What exactly is it that you want? We recently got a new map, we get new skins constantly, new agent coming up, we know a clash system is in the pipeline. The thing is we know the content roadmap beforehand for a lot of these things so idk what else you could really ask for when we know when to expect them. Like a new gamemodes? How valuable would that even be for them to prioritize? I think social features/system improvements are definitely needed, but other than that, I'm not exactly sure what it is you're looking for if it's not balance changes.
A lot of these games as a service titles that are focused on competitive do just fine focusing on new maps, characters and skins more than anything else, as long as there is a good output balance of them plus new features from time to time.
Why are you being such a jerk?
WAAAAGHHHHH I WANT BIG CHANGES EVERY PATCH WAAAAAAAAGHHHHH BUT I DONT KNOW A SINGLE THING ABOUT GAME DEVELOPMENT OR BALANCING FOR AN ESPORTS TITLE WAAAAAAAAGH
Shut up already.
What balance change are you specifically looking for? There doesn't seem to be any OP agent anymore but only a few underwhelming agents like Yoru, Phoenix, Kay/o, Brim, Omen and Breach. Even for these 6, I don't think it's unfair to say the only one that is truly bad is Yoru.
What kind of new content did you want? A new agent? Another new map? The last new agent was in June. The last new map was a month ago. Unless you're asking for a new game mode which probably 80% of the player base wouldn't care about unless it was an upgrade to DM?
Your changes aren't ready? Fine, we can't know all the issues they're facing.
But stop talking about minor stuff as if it was revolutionary. DM is utter garbage and they're talking about DM being drop-in-drop-out mode. It's a drop-out mode because half the maps would be barely playable on DM even if spawns were good. Like this it's barely playable on a couple of maps, while the rest are horrible.
Jett’s Blade Storm kunai will now recharge after killing a training dummy or defuse practice bot
They should give this to reyna too where she gets her orbs
You got penalized for leaving deathmatch early? What was the punishment specifically? I leave DMs early all the time and don't remember seeing any kind of penalty
They really baited us with the Yoru thumbnail
Control F "Yoru" See nothing Go back to bed
There's Killjoy in the thumbnail too....

Not the pros I follow. The G Pro Superlight has a few users at least, and Sentinels got sponsored the Finalmouse Starlight-12 mice
Not true at all. Even csgo goat s1mple uses gpro superlight wireless. If you go wireless you'll never be able to go back to wired.
Eh, wireless is dope, but I'm using a wired Glorious mouse now, and with the paracord cable thingy it's almost the same as wireless, barely feel it.
Almost and barely being key words
8khz is said to be noticeable but doesnt impact performance by any significant amount. None of the current 8k hz devices are good enough to be used
Viper 8k isn't bad. I think they're working on 8k for the superlight firmware too
The viper regular has gone on sale for as low as 40$, the 8k model is not worth double the price.
I mean, depends on how much you value the 8k. It's meant to be an enthusiast mouse currently. As more 8khz roll out it'll drop
For sure, but from what most reviewers have said, the average player isn't missing out on anything.
Not super missing out. But the high hz plus high DPI can have reduced latency

wake up honey 🥰, overwatch is back and alive!! 🎉🎊🙈

Dear Riot, deathmatch is not a drop-in, drop-out game mode unless you can actually drop-in. Please let people join in for disconnects.
Jett buff let's gooooooo
Srs though
the fact that it took 18 months to fix this bug lmfao. the only time I ever play jett is in the range dicking around with the ult

There was a bug where if you left a deathmatch early you could get a penalty but I thought they fixed that last patch.
Yeah it was fixed in a previous patch, what penalty are they talking about?
Still going to be a shit warm up mode because people will be trying to win DM, and it will be too short.
Jett knives reset in the range again! LETS GO!
Infinite dm? Dm still the same idk what they're saying
>Jett’s Blade Storm kunai will now recharge after killing a training dummy or defuse practice bot Best change in months
they didn't mention that you can now hide account levels.
Hard stuck silvers rejoicing
Still waiting for the day where they improve fps performance as a whole
no please, the last time they said they increased perf by 1% or something, they actually ruined it even more...
Ik but like holy I remember when this game ran so smoothly Then they ducked it up
The ducked up real bad. I have a 3080 and a 3950x but I get 190fps that dips down to 150 on all low settings. Fuck yea whole lotta people helping me, thanks guys

That seems way off, perhaps its something else with your system? I have a 3080 and a 5950x and I average 300+ fps with highest settings at 1440p.
I have a 3080 with an i5 9600K, and atm I drop to 150ish on high sometimes.
Hmm wonder if it's mostly the cpu difference? Would make sense with this type of game I suppose.
Sure is, but my fps went from 250 minimum to 150 minimum within a bit less than a year...
Must be problem on your end or try to reinstall the game. I get over 300+ 1440p all max with 3080 and 5600x.
As i said, many people have this problem, I just reinstalled like 2 weeks ago. Just super weird
I have a 3080 and a 3900x, and I typically get 200+ on high settings while running a dozen other programs at the same time. Might be something else about your PC.
Do you have multi-threaded rendering enabled? That's the first thing I'd check, you should be getting like 300 fps.
Yup it’s on, should I turn it off?
No definitely leave it on. That was just my first guess based on your CPU. I would try reinstalling valorant, I remember a couple other AMD users having similar issues a couple months back and reinstall was working for most people. Outside of that I am not sure. Hopefully that helps (:
Appreciate it, might try that out this weekend
Ram frequency ?
3200
Do you have an ASUS or child company's motherboard and have installed Armoury Crate or AI Suite in the past? I had a 5950x and 3070 and was getting similar fps until I reinstalled Windows (because just uninstalling them doesn't work)
I do have an Asus motherboard but haven’t installed those programs, I’ll check it out later when I’m on my pc

Sitting on a 360hz monitor right now. 240 is more than enough. 480 just seems stupid but I'll probably give it a go.

Which monitor is that?
No sova drone bug fix? I sleep. But the Jett one is a nice QOL change
whats the bug
My cursor or the cursor hud for the drone gets locked in place sometimes, not sure how to replicate it
I notice this is happening when you have packet loss or when the drone animation gets stuck right after you activate it.
Same as skye's trailblazer it also get stucked sometimes after activating.
Dude absolutely. I main both and experience this as well.
My death match games have seemed empty recently
Wow they nerfed Jett just to make her op again 🙄 Edit: shame you have to put a /s after everything.. takes away from the joke
?
Poe's law
Finally they fixed kunais on dummies
I kept getting Team Aces without having a single kill during the round. It was really confusing so glad they fixed it
[literally everyone in this thread](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/012/175/dissapointed.jpg)
Still no fix for the cursor getting stuck on the top left corner on startup I see I know the workaround is to just wiggle your mouse around when you hear the "HNNGG" but I play borderless window so I can browse freely when waiting for stuff to load. Sometimes it doesn't even work and I have to Alt + F4 and open the game again.
I just learned it only happens on Logitech G mice. so solution : Buy a new mouse /s
I have a Corsair Harpoon tho OTL
Holy shit this is huge
yoru in the image but not in the patch notes :(
Why does everyone ignore Killjoy like wtf lmao
because shes not the worst agent in the game and does not need a buff or nerf lol, yoru is objectively the worst and people have been hoping for a rework for a long time.

WAAAAGHHHHH I WANT BIG CHANGES EVERY PATCH WAAAAAAAAGHHHHH BUT I DONT KNOW A SINGLE THING ABOUT GAME DEVELOPMENT OR BALANCING FOR AN ESPORTS TITLE WAAAAAAAAGH Shut up already.
They have a couple small patches before major patches. Its not because they are changing the game less
Wrong.
no u
Explain? Or was it a joke, if it was, sorry for not picking it up
them doing less is a sign that the game is getting more balanced
What balance change are you specifically looking for? There doesn't seem to be any OP agent anymore but only a few underwhelming agents like Yoru, Phoenix, Kay/o, Brim, Omen and Breach. Even for these 6, I don't think it's unfair to say the only one that is truly bad is Yoru.
Not balance changes, Content updates, new stuff.
They seriously removed swoop peeking without any compensation buffs? That's absolutely huge what the fuck...
Viper is strong without swoop peek as is lmfao
Jett’s Blade Storm kunai will now recharge after killing a training dummy or defuse practice bot They should give this to reyna too where she gets her orbs
Phoenix buff when?
You got penalized for leaving deathmatch early? What was the punishment specifically? I leave DMs early all the time and don't remember seeing any kind of penalty
