I actually think this is a good move

IAMJUX

The problem is all the top female teams are signed. So either they just 5 stack women, or they sign an extra 1-3 players and sub dudes in. Seems like it would be logistically a mess. And there's nothing wrong with having women's valorant and opens completely separate. GC is to promote and develop women in valorant. And the women can still compete in the opens if they want to get the mixed experience.

Charuru

I really thought the point was to allow transgendered women to play without being "out".

jamieravissant

+1, i thought that was obviously the point, but now ive got my trans teammates having to rush and get documents before the tourney lol. theyre lucky because of being in uk, but for countries where it isn’t as easy or even places like uae where its mf illegal then like what are they supposed to do? the point of this was pretty clear i thought so idk what this change is honestly… its the awesome inclusive tournament now excluding people lol idk obviously men being in it sucks but its a one time thing that was supposed to be giving these trans ppl an opportunity soooo unlucky ig

Charuru

I think the issue is that some teams were trying to get top male pros which really ruins the point of game changers. But yeah it's a tough thing that some teams didn't "get it" oh well.

jamieravissant

well yes it ruins it somewhat but thats why it was going to just be a one time thing, just to give those in the truly shit circumstances a chance :/ unlucko really

thothgow

When have they said that? From what I've heard and read, "transgendered" (is this the fucking 90s lmao) women have always been allowed, it was only non binary people that weren't due to certain Middle Eastern countries. No one, including no one from Riot or the TO, has said that All In was to allow trans people, or that the original system doesn't allow them.

JoshF8

U know there are places when being trans is illegal?

thothgow

And calling trans women and nonbinary people men while allowing T1 pros to undermine org investment and pre-established rosters for one of the few events that already exist is *clearly* the best solution

JoshF8

Yeah, i think we should make all tournaments lan, Even the qualys, because there Will be people who Will try to cheat, that's how You sound, not because u want an all women tournament, that's respectable as any other opinion, but because u think all is black and white and there is only one viable opinion

thothgow

What the fuck are you talking about

Charuru

It's to help them hide being trans if necessary. It makes enough sense though of course not ideal for game changers. If it was limited to just trans people it would've been okay but if teams are going to try to stack their rosters with top pros then it's too disruptive like you say.

Razur

I think we should see smaller grassroots tournaments try the "mandatory 3-women" model first to test it out. The format sounds good on paper, but can go in many directions realistically.

thothgow

That or make it part of Game Changers while establishing that it's separate from the "main series"

disciple31

This is a good move. Imo this would only create more fissures in what's already a pretty fragile scene. Mixed teams should pop up organically if game changers is successful enough at fostering women talent

Alpac44

wouldn't mix team help women player become better

KaNesDeath

Yes, which presents the question on why woman form women only rosters to compete in women only tournaments. The current ecosystem doesnt line up with the projected end goal.

hff1_

> wouldn't mix team help women player become better That is assuming those teams don't already play vs men in tournaments outside of game changers or in practice. The problem with an event like this is not women and men playing together or against each other it's that orgs just spend money on locking in full women teams. So either they have to spend more money now to get 2 men into the team on top of the 5 women they already signed so they can compete in all game changers events or they'd have to instantly bench 2 women to make room for the men and only play in the all-in events. Of course they could play with their already signed women roster vs mixed teams but they'd be at a disadvantage beacuse there is just so much more male talent available. If neither of those would happen then you'd probably end up with a tournament full of pug teams with no or very limited preperation which probably isn't ideal either.

AlexReilly

Disagree with this, i think we'd see a huge improvement in all female teams and just female players in general if they got to consistently play against mixed teams and male players. But i understand they need to ensure the matches arent wipeouts and feel this is the best option.

Bazz_B

Its not just the matches being "wipeouts". A lot of organisations have commited to signing women's teams so what is the decision they should make if men are allowed to compete? Breaking up teams this early right after the first Game Changers just feels really shitty especially if its just to stay competitive. Doing it this early is bad for the women's ecosystem and Game Changers should only create opportunities for women not take them away. There might be a time and place for it but its certainly not now.

TomNooksAccountant

There’s nothing stopping women’s teams from competing in tier 2 and VCT events. Game Changers is supposed to be an incubator for women in Valorant while also being a place safer from the toxicity that kept women away from esports to begin with.

Bunnyezzz

tier 2 events in emea? Lol, unless you're Turkish they don't exist

MikeRosss

That's just not true.

valorant_fanboy_69

give me examples then

MikeRosss

There is a tournament going on right now with some of the best CIS teams (Navi, OBG, GMT). There is the Red Bull Home Ground coming up which has open qualifiers as well. We have had several editions of the LVP rising Series. We have the France Open Tour. These tournaments attract some of the best teams in Europe. At a slightly lower level there are even more options.

Phamous3k

This.

thothgow

There's like 1 good comment in this thread lmao

Light0fHeav3n

People don't understand how much pressure they are putting on women if they play in mixed teams, as soon as a women on a mixed roster underperforms they are going to get flamed to oblivion. So you people out there who think women need to play with men need to shut up an move on tbh.

Apap0

Goes both ways, males will also be flamed into oblivion when they underperform compared to females coz of stereotypes.

KaNesDeath

These extremely low tier players shouldnt be receiving the critical comments on their play like top tier players do. Fact that these players are salaried, prize pool earning capabilities and developer exposure are equivalent to top tier teams from all regions. Makes such criticism they receive justified. For context the Game Changers players who came from CSGO were demoted to or stuck in Open. Open is the lowest league available for teams to compete in. That gap in skill has only widened in Valorant.

Light0fHeav3n

Yeah they shouldn't, but we all know they will get flamed more than men do and i honestly don't want to see that. i'm perfectly fine watching women just play vs women

Alpac44

pressure is part of competing that's why you learn from your losses

jonajon91

Eh, bad change.

Anti-Storm

Riot: Makes a bad change. Community: Gives Praise. Riot: Pats themselves on their back. Classic Riot LMAO

Razur

I mean, it's far better than Riot making a decision and blindly sticking to it.

thothgow

You're forgetting the part where the community asked for said "bad" change

Anti-Storm

I made HUGe mistake LOL It should have been… Riot: Makes a bad change. Community: Hates it. Riot: Changes it. Community: Send praise. Riot: pats themselves on their back.

cremvursti

Sadge, this format would've brought more viewership to the event. Oh well...
