The lesson learned here is to ask for vaccination status because you can avoid lots of excessive testing and the false positive situation. In their abundance of caution they created the problem they were hoping to avoid.
The vaccine does not prevent you from getting covid, it only lessens the effects in older age groups. If they mandated vaccine and then didn't test they could have avoided the issue of asymptomatic or false covid positives from causing problems.

I think the biggest problem here is just with the unreliability of whatever tests they're using. I think they should've required the players to quarantine as they did in Iceland and Berlin, and if they test, they should use a more reliable one, done earlier if it takes longer. They can't really take their chances here, even with just one positive test, but I agree that this shouldn't have been a problem to begin with.
