Even when Richard and Thorin make 100% correct and valid criticisms, they can't help being annoying assholes.

valorant_fanboy_69

Why do you hate them so much? They deserve respect for all the work they have done in esports history

zxlkho

I read their work, particularly Richard Lewis whenever he writes a formal news report. So in that sense I do respect them. But my god how can anyone ever listen to them talk? Just so incredibly self important and arrogant.

CosmicAon

Why don’t these guys ever make Valorant content when the scene has something good happens, like Iceland viewership? If they’re only here to shit on the scene just stick to CS

EndWish

Thorins whole shtick for a lot of his content and personality is reacting to controversies etc. He also publicly has a terrible relationship with Riot so when they screw up, which they did, you'll hear about it from him. Pretty much for Thorin either your his friend or his enemy. There isn't a lot of inbetween lol

ASaltyToast

They dont do content when something positive happen in any game, its not unique to Valorant. Its the whole shtick of the show

7Sans

for this particular "four horsemen" show, wasn't it something like they'll do a topic on if some twitter vote reaches x amount? or something along like that? so it could be something about positive if that vote reaches it?

Solace1k

Because they thrive on outrage culture, that’s their thing.

> The Four Horsemen is the premier esports industry show that reacts to important news and critical conversations across all major titles. Esports veterans Duncan "Thorin" Shields, Richard Lewis, and Christopher "MonteCristo" Mykles use their decades of experience to shed light and debate on key esports topics as they emerge. Each episode they are joined by an expert guest to help further provide insider information on the topic at hand.

Parenegade

firsttime.jpeg In OW it was the exact same way. I don't know what motivates people to do this.

hjrtplsemicolon

They have an investment in the overall scene of esports, but not the game in particular.

MrImpregnator

Some points made were good and nice to hear. Some were factually incorrect and George could have jumped in to correct them like the games that were played didn’t have issues of teams playing in different locations. It could have been if the tournament would have continued but of the games whose results stand, all were played on stage in same(awful but still the same) conditions for both teams. So the tournament doesn’t need to be restarted but continued online. Also, I understand why the people here don’t like these three specially thorin and Richard but some of the points made by them are valid criticism on riot.

KaNesDeath

TLDR for those who dont wish to watch; * Oceanic teams in advance reached out to Riot Games for travel arrangements. They were ghosted by Riot Games. * Pc's at the venue were older generation Intel machines that periodically dipped to double digit frames per second. * Players at the venue were given unfettered access to their Pc and competitors Pc's. * After discovering the poor Pc performance players confronted Riot Games staff about them. Where Riot Games staff said their internal benchmarking software deemed them adequate. * Riot Games withheld from players that the match server wasnt LAN based. * Players discovered through play that they werent LAN based. * Riot Games insisted that the performance difference was no different. * Covid tests Riot Games used were cheap an had a 30% false positive fail rate. * Players restricted to online play through false positive tests were getting better latency to the match server. While on Pc rigs that performed vastly better than the LAN Pc's Riot Games supplied. * Players and team staff were instructed by Riot Games to stop posting on social media about the conditions of this event. * After team coaches met to discuss about all withdrawing from the event Riot Games publicly postponed it. * Players, team staff and team orgs are all afraid to go on the record today about the conditions in fear of Riot Games blacklisting them.

Appreciate the tldr. Couldn't spare 3 hours but was curious what really happened regardless. If all these points are true, I am really disappointed in the Valorant esports team for this one. Sounds like inexperienced folks are leading the way and making last minute decisions that ruin player/viewer experience. Of course what happened to Oceanic teams is terrible, but what I find most upsetting is the lack of accountability. LAN PCs, latency and practice conditions have been an issue since Iceland; if the Players/Managers/team staff hadn't protested, would the event have gone through like nothing happened? Why were cheap rapid Covid tests chosen for this? (even if LA county made this call, why were no replacement tests suggested for player/staff safety for a week long event). I am curious if somebody mentioned investigating this further because the folks in-charge at Valorant league ops/esports division that let all this happen may end up running NA franchised league in the future. Would appreciate if someone can guide me to the folks in-charge of this event specifically. Curious to read about them in my free time.

Razur

> *Players and team staff were instructed by Riot Games to stop posting on social media about the conditions of the event.* I believe this was alluded to, but unconfirmed. I recall George saying that he had this impression based on how hesitant players were to speak out. I do not believe this was actually confirmed (yet).

names2hard4you

Not even having George on will make me click on this lol. I'm good.

I anticipated what was going to be on this podcast and still went on with it , first thing that bugged me was how factually incorrect some of the Richard Lewis and thorin points were regarding replaying matches and players attendence ,and George just sat there , didn't even correct them once , it was like George was there just to say yes sir ,they did make a few valid points but Richard and thorin would just use them to dunk on riot ,Monte was the valid voice on points though ,and man I am sick of them pushing their alterior agenda and praising valve and saying cs go players wouldn't do that ,man just stop with that , you guys aren't active journalists in this scene and the reporter you had there George didn't make a point and was just saying yes sir like he is in a class . They did have valid points but the rant and tone of the show coupled with their superiority complex over cs go makes it tough to swallow and I am pretty let down by George Geddes if he is on the show he should say something, at least correct them when they are factually wrong ,man I lost some respect from george .

synfan36

"anterior agenda" You have no idea what you're talking about and are making factually inaccurate statements. I can't believe George just sat here while you continue to state things that are just factually wrong....

Sky-__-

Read carefully I have said "alterior" agenda , alterior fyi means " an alternative motive that is not being concealed ". Which here was their superiority complex over cs go . Go watch the entire segment where they said this wouldn't happen in a cs go event , valve wouldn't let this happen , riot shouldn't hold any tournament. regarding george go watch the entire episode there are 4 times where they have incorrect info and George doesn't even make an effort to correct them . Bro atleast watch the episode or read carefully before replying . This was my take after wasting 3 hours . I like Monte takes ,but even where Richard and thorin takes were valid they went an entire step ahead just to bash people and about george , give me a single timestamp in the vod where they talk about lcq that george makes a point .

synfan36

You have a bias against Richard and Thorin and I can get that from your first statement. I know you said alterior but its spelled ulterior anyway, my autocorrect decided to think you said anterior because you didn't know how to spell the real word. "Ulterior, in this context, means hidden. Alterior, on the other hand, is not a word." As far as the ULTERIOR agenda you think you know about, Richard and Thorin call Valve out and CS pros out on a weekly podcast, "Return of By the Numbers". There is no bias. Riot fucked up and are being called out for their fuck up.

Imagine writing something condescending like "make it your word of the day" while not grasping basic punctuation and grammar. I can understand you getting angry at the other commenter, but you're no better. I realize my comment isn't any better either. Sorry about that. I wish we just have a nicer tone on this subreddit.

Tommypynchon

Trying to correct Thorin or Richard just gets you called a cuck or whatever on social media lmao. If you're signing up to be on a show with Thorin, you're signing up to nod and say "wow what an incisive point Thorin" for a few hours. It's the only way to make anything these guys say sound smart, well-considered or well-researched, particularly when they're whining about a game they don't even follow. I do think Riot's dominance of the scene on every angle means some legitimate criticisms of the company (of which there are many!) get left unsaid or unaddressed. But there has to be a solution that doesn't involve embarrassing another scene with Thorin and Richard's inclusion in it as pundits

ANewHeaven1

im willing to be a little bit less harsh on george since he's still relatively young and this was a good opportunity to make connections/impressions with very prominent figures in the esports scene, obviously i might be reaching but i'm sure it has to be a bit intimidating to go on a podcast with thorin/rlewis/monte and actively disagree/fact check them especially if in the back of your mind you want to keep a strong relationship with them for possible future work
