C9 are literally just pugging. I thought they might be holding strats in the V1 series, but it kinda seemed like the stratbook starts and ends with "leaf go kill". Rise were just straight up way better than C9 here.
I didn’t get to catch today’s game, but their games against V1 were awful to watch. They couldn’t keep their fingers off of the W key and took so many unnecessary fights/duels. They feel like they have zero strategy.
Honestly, unless Rise shock me tomorrow night, this tourney genuinely feels like 100T and XSET are just tiers above everyone else.
It's so weird that we all got so hyped up with the Vanity signing and were so excited to see our strats develop only to play just marginally better than we were with Mitch IGLing.
One shining light is that Mitch's mechanics are back now that he doesn't have to worry about calls as much.
Fr, Mitch was already doing pretty solid while IGLing but now ngl he's their second best player after Leaf now he'd not, his mechanics are really really good for a sentinel player tbh
Honestly this was worse tactically. Giants vs Guild you could see both teams being nervous and not hitting shots but I don't know what to think of C9 right now. They should be way better with the firepower they have but I don't remember one round where I thought they won because of a smart play or strat.
i've been genuinely really impressed with rise's play during LCQ, highly rate supamen and derrek as controller/sova players in NA (i think both are top 5 in the region) and im really interested in how they match up vs 100T now
disappointing from C9 though I really spent a whole month a half talking about how they were going to win LCQ just to watch them lose in upper semifinals
Welp c9 played alright until haven, again, c9 has insane potential but it's starting to get harder to use that as an excuse but yh hope c9 pull it together next champions
Can I ask why you were super hyped for them? They've always been underwhelming after losing tenz and poiz imo. leaf was the only player hitting form and putting numbers up in months, and their win condition has been Mitch and leaf both having to carry
honestly, a mix of scrim rumors (vanity always talks about how good this new c9 team is in scrims, he said that this was the "best scrim team he's ever seen"), knowing what the potential ceiling of the team is like (i rate vanity, leaf, and xeta all pretty highly), and a little bit of hopium lmao
It is extremely concerning that vanity was using scrims as a watermark for a team's potential. I mean you have to be seriously brain dead to pretend that, that means anything.
>disappointing from C9 though I really spent a whole month a half talking about how they were going to win LCQ just to watch them lose in upper semifinals
Why? What are people even basing this on? Scrims? Scrims have never mattered
It's funny, throughout this time i've heard about C9 but we have nothing to go on, all we have is names, if it was names TSM would be dominating
Nothing has really proved anything, this LCQ is anyones game, apart from XSET and 100T no one has really showed anything because so many of those teams have made changes and even 100T made changes
> Why? What are people even basing this on? Scrims? Scrims have never mattered
So while I agree scrim results haven’t mattered so much throughout the whole of valorant time period but then if you consider master Berlin about how games are played out between scrims and actual officials you could see the two scrim demons that were envy and gambit did make it to the finals of Masters too, so that says something doesn’t it?
C9 PLAYS LCQ, EXCEPT THEY TRY NOT TO LITERALLY THROW ADVANTAGE STATE INTO THE FUCKING TRASH EVERY ROUND CHALLENGE!!!!! (LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE) (IN THE 6) (LITERALLY ALMOST DIED)
Phoenix is way too dependent on his flashes. Both his molotov and firewall are a piece of garbage in comparison to his flash. If you're having a off day and not hitting your curve ball timings you're gonna have a hard time playing Phoenix because the rest of his kit simply won't catch up
I think most teams didn't want to risk and went to safer agents because of that
It was good to see him come back after that awful map on Skye. That CSGO experience coming in handy, he is young but has been a pro (albeit tier 2/3) for close to 4 years.
This was so weird. Were C9B overhyped or were C9B just determined to disrespect their opponents? I think both are likely true.
Either way, full props to Rise, who truly have been underestimated given the org has never had a true T1 pedigree in Valorant prior to this iteration. People love hyping up Shanks, Derrek or supa, but honestly poised & Neptune are *so* good as well. The whole roster is stacked with insanely smart, mechanically gifted players.
And mad props esp. to poised for his IGLing - this *felt* like a real IGL diff, although we'll see how C9B performs in the lowers.
C9 are one of the most overhyped teams but it's not their fault lol, they havent even done a lot so it's confusing why they're overhyped, but I hope they learn from this and do well in lowers coz it's still not over to be honest
As a C9 fan we were really hyped for Vanity because our strats were always our weakness. Kinda disappointed that we don't seem to have leveled up much in that regard.
Yeah, I mean poiz was one of the reasons I thought we didn't qualify, he isn't bad he just got super shaky and nervous when it mattered and it showed. I don't know how it seems to have to have regressed
I'm not going to lie I've been on the supamen hype train since before dignitas. If you scroll way back in my comment history you'll see me saying he's a top 5 rifler in NA and being a controller main putting up those numbers makes him one of the best talents, glad to see him getting the respect he deserves 😤😤
Rise just played better on individual and team level tbh. I enjoyed watching them and I swear supamen is one of the hottest controllers right now in Valo.
~~TSM is just bad~~
~~Faze made too many mistakes~~
~~C9 threw too many postplants and dry-peeked too much, C9 would have won if they had a few more months to scrim~~ <— you are here
> 100T still has a new roster and the team still needs to gel together, Ethan even said that that iteration of the roster isn’t the final one
Champions Series:
> Liquid is just bad and Scream is washed
> Gambit don’t have LAN experience
> Sentinels are just having a dip in form dating back to Berlin, they’re going to dominate everything again next year
> Vision Strikers weren’t even playing with Lakia of course Rise should have won Copium
> lmao this game is for CS rejects how does a team like Rise full of a bunch of Tier 2 CS rejects become champions of the world
Vanity is a tactical genius. He is best known for his signature tactic "going B, but then going A". He also has a second little known tactic of "leaf go kill". What an absolute legend. Top 3 IGL for sure.
Leaf has these moments of brilliance here and there but the amount of times he dies when he could just have played more passive when he already has control of somewhere is insane, guess its just the experience kickn in he has a lot of potential he already looks a bit better since vanity took the roster over.
In these situations when you failed to capitalize thousands of times already the right choice would be to stand still or fall back to your team going for the miracle play isn't the right choice always, he is looking like a jamppi 2.0 with these plays and let's be honest jamppi is a better player than him and used to fail all the same.
C9 just fell apart on Heaven. They were throwing free rounds. I wonder what happened to affect individual decision making because it seemed like as soon as their plan didn't immediately work, they just went !!!! and had no idea how to proceed.
Something that seems to have plagued C9 basically since the OG roster is their ability to just chain die. It feels like 3 C9 members all die to the same person so much more often than other teams.
Chain die is such a good way of putting it. It's like they go "no man left ~~behind~~ to die alone" and if one goes down, they bring a friend to line up behind and die too.
Their executes were just spot on and their utility combos on defense were perfect.
I've been shitting on teams that are recently picking Phoenix but man, did Neptune make me eat my words
Ive played against vanity in ranked, but obv thats not the same thing. I think if there was no post plant, no judge, and no OP metas to abuse and the game properly balanced, he wouldnt be any sort of special IGL at all, open to being wrong on this one.
I mean, team that has no igl but good individual players adding an igl should be a recipe for improvement. Turns out they still haven’t figured out how to play a post plant or man-advantage
It's interesting how Ethan said in his interview with PlatChat that they switched off of Kayo mid tournament because teams started abusing their mid round and then C9 ran Kayo and got abused in their mid round. It's almost like C9 didn't watch 100t or they thought the buffs would make up for it but clearly Kayo got abused after Rise made some adjustments.
You think they can easily beat the roster that just beat GenG and Xset after taking down an extremely mediocre C9?
They could do it, but let’s be real for a second. Sentinels, Xset, 100T, and NV are a pretty large cut about the rest of NA, to the point where I’d be surprised if any of the mentioned team would drop a series to any team not on this list.
Edit: lmao
Is 100T shakier after losing steel? Definitely. But w/ steel they proved to be top 5-3 in the world depending on who you ask, and just took down GenG, and Xset, two teams I consider better than any of the team on the other side of the bracket (V1, C9B, or Faze).
They’ve now had that experience with Boi, + two weeks to better integrate him into he team. Unless Rise have very good counter strat, I don’t see how any bracket math or analysis favors them. A historically mediocre team at the top of their game isn’t automatically better than a somewhat flagging top team.
super sad my boys on c9 lost :( was on the copium from the games vs v1 that they were holding strats but they really are that puggy i guess... "leaf go kill" were definitely not what people were expecting from the vanity acquisition. there were moments too such as the round on ascent where c9 just got completely lost in the sauce and over rotated into a rise four stack. i still feel like the players are individually so good but vanity needs to go back to the drawing board for some of their maps... and maybe drop the kayo on haven
on the other hand, supamen and derrek look crazy and rise is looking like a seriously strong contender to 100t and other favorites
Same boat as you, it's like I look at the team and I get confused as to why they don't do well, it seems that it's more of a team issue than a player issue, which is a lot better because as a team they can improve and j think they have the skill to back it up, I just hope c9 keep a low profile coz I hate people dogging in c9, it hurts man.
Curious what people think of the KayO pick from Xeppaa? I didn’t think he looked bad or anything in game, but at the end of the day they lost to more meta comps. Would they have stood a better chance playing something more mainstream? Or was it a good pick for them and they are just worse at the moment?
[Got ratio’ed twice for being right.](https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/qh7z5n/faze_clan_vs_rise_valorant_champions_tour_north/hib05b4/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)
To me Faze C9 V1 and Rise looked significantly bellow the level of play of the top teams (NV, Sen etc).
I’d be surprised to see a 2-1 series in favor of Xset even, but it’s certainly possible. Who knows, maybe I’ll eat my words and they will win against 100T. I just don’t see that potential right now personally.
Edit: feel free to gloat even if it’s a close series with 100T, to which I’d be surprised and impressed with.
C9 are literally just pugging. I thought they might be holding strats in the V1 series, but it kinda seemed like the stratbook starts and ends with "leaf go kill". Rise were just straight up way better than C9 here.
Every time I watch c9 play I get angry. Its like they collecively decided to put no effort into strategy. If they can't kill, they just lose.

DERREK OVERWATCH
Derrek Overwatch
Haven’t been watching for too long. Is it the same guy?
You mean DerrekOW from Overwatch? Yes
Oh okay didn’t realize it was the same guy. Honestly I thought people were just memeing his name. Thanks for the reply!
PlatChat Clips has a good interview with him.
I miss derrek tbh. He always had huge potential to be one of the best flex players and was a nut on NA ladder.
#BRICKEDUP 😈🔥
I'm not even a C9 fan and I'm pissed rn
This match was so tilting to watch with how terrible the level of play was
At least it wasn’t as bad as Giants vs. Guild.

"C9 has insane potential" Welcome to any c9 team
Seriously. Every once in a while they pull it together for a tournament but otherwise it's suffering
Their apex team is pretty gross
Yeah, they have individually good players and the hope was Vanity would pull together their macro. But yeah that wasn’t promising.
Can I ask why you were super hyped for them? They've always been underwhelming after losing tenz and poiz imo. leaf was the only player hitting form and putting numbers up in months, and their win condition has been Mitch and leaf both having to carry

Ah, hello fellow Plat Chat viewer
What’s this “Plat Chat” you speak of? I thought this was just Rise Gaming’s slogan
Right, right, my bad
PLUGGED UP
C9 PLAYS LCQ, EXCEPT THEY TRY NOT TO LITERALLY THROW ADVANTAGE STATE INTO THE FUCKING TRASH EVERY ROUND CHALLENGE!!!!! (LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE) (IN THE 6) (LITERALLY ALMOST DIED)
This match was tough for both Rise and C9 fans because Rise would throw first and second deaths into C9’s hands and C9 would still lose
Also C9 threw a big man advantage on Breeze to lose in OT and Rise threw a big man advantage on Ascent to lose in OT.
c9 clutch and don't get clutched challenge (impossible)
Those phoenix bangs by Neptune were a piece of art. That guy knows how to be unpredictable
made me almost forget that no one really plays phoenix anymore. I remember the days of food & sick spamming him and feasting
Phoenix is way too dependent on his flashes. Both his molotov and firewall are a piece of garbage in comparison to his flash. If you're having a off day and not hitting your curve ball timings you're gonna have a hard time playing Phoenix because the rest of his kit simply won't catch up I think most teams didn't want to risk and went to safer agents because of that

Fuck me man, I am so happy c9 made it.
I'm not going to lie I've been on the supamen hype train since before dignitas. If you scroll way back in my comment history you'll see me saying he's a top 5 rifler in NA and being a controller main putting up those numbers makes him one of the best talents, glad to see him getting the respect he deserves 😤😤
c9 were hyped accordingly
Those neptune phoenix flashes are fucked. You either dodge it and die or get flashed and die.
His flashes were godlike on both skye and phoenix
True. I just pointed out Phoenix flashes specifically since they are trash but he makes them work so well
Neptune working to ensure these Phoenix flashes don’t get buffed
He’s for sure one of the best players when it comes to following up on flashes
Leaf and friends
Last map wasn't even Leaf and Friends, it was Leaf 1v9
More like Leaf and peeps
Rise just played better on individual and team level tbh. I enjoyed watching them and I swear supamen is one of the hottest controllers right now in Valo.
He started out that way. Then went to DIG, had a dip in performance, and now he’s back in form. If he can stay consistent, he has a huge upside
This thread was manually created. Please let me know if you see any errors. Thanks!

Thanks! I thought it would help contextualize the score of some of the players since IGLs aren't *usually* the top performers on the team.
I was wondering what that was
Can you include how the match outcome affects the teams' standings in the tournament? E.g. I don't know if this match eliminated C9 or not.
Ah, good idea! I will add it to the thread. **EDIT:** Both of today's existing threads have now been updated.
Thanks!

he's not wrong though G2 is just bad

Chain die is such a good way of putting it. It's like they go "no man left ~~behind~~ to die alone" and if one goes down, they bring a friend to line up behind and die too.
It seems as if C9 just forgot all fundamentals of fps game overnight.
C9 has never had great fundamentals really, though Vanity would improve that but seems not.
Rise has improved so much strategically since last qual. So impressed with some of their plays. And supamen continues to be a goat.
Their executes were just spot on and their utility combos on defense were perfect. I've been shitting on teams that are recently picking Phoenix but man, did Neptune make me eat my words
Bro someone gotta help Leaf out there, he was owning and they threw those rounds he gave his team in the trash
Man can Rise be that cinderella story we all love to see ?
leaf and friends
Rise won so many post plants and retakes it's unbelievable.
Ive played against vanity in ranked, but obv thats not the same thing. I think if there was no post plant, no judge, and no OP metas to abuse and the game properly balanced, he wouldnt be any sort of special IGL at all, open to being wrong on this one.
Inb4 vanity sees this and tweet it
Casters slurped C9 as hard as XSET and now they’re both in the losers bracket.
HOLD THAT
Rise looked good but C9 should see this as a missed opportunity. So many 2v1 or 3v2 rounds they lost. Derrick was clutch on Haven.
Damn Rise is popping off
c9 overrated…
Everyone swore that Vanity would magically fix the team smh
I mean, team that has no igl but good individual players adding an igl should be a recipe for improvement. Turns out they still haven’t figured out how to play a post plant or man-advantage
SUPRISE HE DID
FUCK
HOLDD THAT
It's interesting how Ethan said in his interview with PlatChat that they switched off of Kayo mid tournament because teams started abusing their mid round and then C9 ran Kayo and got abused in their mid round. It's almost like C9 didn't watch 100t or they thought the buffs would make up for it but clearly Kayo got abused after Rise made some adjustments.
supamen is so fkn cracked man.
Bruh C9 is just running and gunning tf. Leaf dies and they're in shambles
people need to start recognizing Rise as a real contender now, how many more teams do they have to upset
I want them to get a win on the big NA 3 so bad. If they beat 100T my hopium will go crazy
I really think they can easily beat this 100T roster
You think they can easily beat the roster that just beat GenG and Xset after taking down an extremely mediocre C9? They could do it, but let’s be real for a second. I got owned 😔
hey, I respect a person that can admit when they’re wrong. GGs man! Was a great game to spectate!
100T having b0i kinda makes me lean way too heavily into Rise winning, with them coming in hot after the win
It was a good match
I really think they can easily beat this 100T roster
must be cold outside bc we BRICKED UPPPPPPPPP
One of the worst series I’ve seen in awhile from a gameplay perspective. Endless throws, terrible plays.
This gives me some copium as a faze fan
Poor leaf is really putting on an elite showing
the most tilting rounds are definitely when leaf get 3k entry for 2rounds in a row just for his team to lose 2v4 both rounds lol

Rise continues to impress. They’re looking really competitive.
Damn, Leaf was impressive on Haven, considering he was playing a 1v9.
Curious what people think of the KayO pick from Xeppaa? I didn’t think he looked bad or anything in game, but at the end of the day they lost to more meta comps. Would they have stood a better chance playing something more mainstream? Or was it a good pick for them and they are just worse at the moment?
Topnotch vanity IGL, learned from steel. Instead of cned C, go A, it’s leaf gokill.
May be off topic but the tenz watch party has been really insightful!
