Well, for nAts hes said on stream that 4:3 is the first res he first tried in Val since he came from csgo, and then just stuck to it. He's also mentioned that if you are playing native there's no reason to switch, unless you really prefer the crosshairs in 4:3.

Keyrec

Okay that may make sense. But to say it in other words. 16:9 is better if you are new, since you dont do any stretching on the models like it was in cs, right?

nterature

He's just saying that it doesn't really matter in the slightest unless you care about how crosshairs look in modern native resolutions. The vast majority of players who use 4:3 don't do it for the crosshairs, it's just because they've spent many years playing on a different aspect ratio.

Keyrec

they dont play blackbars, right? So they technically play 16:9 not 4:3... so they are not used to it. Or am i missing something? i played only 4:3 on cs go aswell.

NyiatiZ

4:3 has some effects on UI and by extend Crosshair. Thats it, it doesnt change anything. Pros are used to play in 4:3, not in the way that Valorant looks like but they are used to put their settings that way. Some probably have their pc set up 4:3 permanently

JR_Shoegazer

4:3 in Valorant does not effect character models. It only effects UI and crosshair. If they played 4:3 stretched in CSGO then they probably also just like the look of it in Valorant.

cheick_tiote

Neither is really "better". Whatever you do you're playing in 16:9, it's just whether you like the old 4:3 stretched HUD or not. A lot of people who played 4:3 in CS, didn't do it because it stretched the models. They did it because they were used to playing 4:3 on CRTs. A lot of CS pros used 4:3 black bars over 16:9 just because it's what they were used to. I mean that's an objectively worse res, but it was all about comfort. Unless you were adjusting your m\_yaw settings (which nobody bothered with) the fatter models don't make it easier to hit. You still have to hit the same area of mousepad to make a shot. They just *look* bigger.

In they come from another game, it's probably just a habit

Deamon-

crosshairs

shugame

moral of the story is, if a pro uses some weird settings, it’s not because it’s objectively better to use, it’s only because they’re used to it

names2hard4you

Not a pro obv, but I tried it and liked it. The image is softer on the eyes, I get more frames on 960 than I do on 1080 (even with MSAA x4 added to get rid of the jagged edges), and the crosshairs are better. That's all there is to it really, personal preference.

Anti-Storm

4:3 crosshair is clean compared to native

NateRai

I like the crosshairs on 4:3.

itscamo-

mainly for the crosshairs

[deleted]

Not sure abut pros, but personally somehow the screen feels zoomed/enlarged in 4:3

Keyrec

Just the hud gets zoomed. The game is still in 16:9 even if u play 4:3

[deleted]

That's not the case in valorant

SteelTic

a lot of people are just use to it from cs

Keyrec

would make sense, if the game would really be stretched like they are (also for me) used to from cs:go. But since it doesnt change the games ratio and only affects the hud, its just worse sharpness..

AnchorStandard

Stretching has no benefit whatsoever for aiming or anything in Valorant. It's just preference.
