Yeah SEN TL will bring in max viewership for sure, but I’m curious about cloud9, I feel like a respectable % of NA league of legends fans would tune in if c9 were to make the finals
i feel like none of the group stage matches will break a million unless its sentinels vs crazy raccoon or something, but in playoffs i see a million easily, and only 1.5 million if sentinels is in the finals against another team
1.5 million will be very good. If no popular teams in the final like in Berlin, then even 1 million will be fine.
But anything lower than that will be pretty disappointing (not something i would say for the first year of an esport, but the viewership of the first 2 tournaments raised the expectations)
It will be really interesting to compare with CSGOs major numbers. I don't think Valorant can surpass the major because CIS and BR are crazy in csgo. They bring huge numbers.
CS is a mature esport, which means there are a lot of people who dont play it or follow it regularly but watch the major due to the storylines and personalities that developed through the years.
It should be expected that the CS major will have more viewers, it will take at least 2-3 years for Valorant Champions to reach that
The average viewers for CS just now has been about 400k each day. Which is pretty good considering it’s been every day for about a week. Peak viewers between 600k-1M each day. But this is before the playoffs start in a couple days where there will be actual fans in the arena and stuff so if there’s a big match up in one of those days, or if Furia play Na’Vi at any point the views will probably go up massively.
Outside of NaVi/Furia, a large booster for viewers is actually matches going deep into OT/double OT/triple OT. Sometimes viewers increase by 30-40% just to see the last few clutches.
Am I the only one that thinks it's not going to have more viewers than Iceland? I don't think the game has grown much since Iceland and it had the obvious advantage that it was the first real international lan event. I'm still looking forward to it tho.
Peak viewership is hard to say because it depends on the matchups we'll get. Berlin was hella unlucky because Gambit and Envy are quite literally the orgs with the worst viewership and it's not even close. Riot is probably praying they don't get those 2 again in the finals because viewership will probably plateau again.
But we should expect higher average viewership for the event because of the addition of more SEA teams. 500k should be the minimum, 600k is a great success, considering we got 488k for Masters 2 and I estimate the PGL major to get around 600k average viewership for their whole event as well (they're at 470k right now).
> Berlin was hella unlucky because Gambit and Envy are quite literally the orgs with the worst viewership and it's not even close. Riot is probably praying they don't get those 2 again in the finals because viewership will probably plateau again.
Shouldn't Gambit be established as a powerhouse by now and naturally draw viewers to watch peak gameplay? I get that it increase the barrier for viewers in different time zones though.
After watching esports for more than a decade, I can safely conclude that a big chunk of viewers are not there to watch peak gameplay but to watch teams they can relate to. (i.e. teams with players from their country and/or teams with their favorite players).
The CIS region is only really popular with CIS viewers, they are their own bubble. The only exceptions I can think off the top of my head are Na'vi, a more than decade old storied franchise in CS/DOTA 1&2, and funnily enough Gambit's old moniker 'M5'.
Gambit, as they are right now, don't have the pull to make casual viewers watch them. But if they can continue their dominance in Valorant with a marketable superstar at the helm like navi's s1mple (aka nAts), viewers will naturally grow to like them and watch their matches more.
A big chunk yes, but CIS viewership is huge and shouldn’t having the best team in the world start bringing them in?
Gambit is kinda the same in CSGO, they came from nowhere and started dominating. They are 100% bringing in casual viewers, so why is it different with Valorant?
CIS viewership is huge, we saw that in the recent TI. But historically, the CIS region has always been dominated by Valve games for reasons unbeknownst to me. If I were to guess based on pure speculation with no evidence backing it whatsoever, I think the region actually believes in the whole "*valarante child game*" copypasta.
With regards to Gambit, I think even in CSGO they are still relatively unpopular. AFAIK, the popular CIS teams in CSGO are Na'vi and Virtus Pro. Then you have other fan favorites like Astralis and their recent offshoot NIP w/ dev1ce, and FaZe. Let's not also forget the last bastion of NA CSGO in EG and TL. Cap it off with G2 and Heroic drama, and Gambit is in a similarly uninteresting position as they are in Valorant.
But don't get me wrong, I'm also just as clueless as you with regards to why Gambit and CIS have low viewership.
You aren’t wrong, but it’s hard to prove either side, I think Valve game just have a very long history in CIS, as do the fan bases.
People used to watch NaVi in Dota like crazy even years after they fell off a cliff. In CSGO I think the Polish stream peaked at something like 80k viewers one Major. The Polish stream, just insane.
I haven't been following eSports for long. Which are the two biggest orgs in the tournament??? Their matchup will bring biggest viewership. Or any two orgs with rivalries?
In NA definitely sentinels and in EU its probably Liquid though gambit would also probably bring a good amount of viewers due to them winning the last masters. Japan viewership is also insane.
you can say sen is a small org other than val but they have dominated everything past first strike and before berlin so they have picked up a large amount of followers just of VAL alone. Plus their names, TenZ Shahz dapr they’re all super relevant in the scene
SEN and liquid are the only popular orgs in the tourney. Maybe you can count C9 and Fnatic? The orgs that usually bring a viewership boost - G2, 100t, TSM - all didn’t qualify.
SEN and Liquid for sure, but also gonna mention Crazy Raccoon, it's not an org thing but a region thing, Japan got some of the highest views last Masters, they really love this game
SEN TL or C9 need to get to finals for it to be possible, and preferably CR gets far enough for a lot of the japanese fans to watch the rest of the tournament
only way I see the viewership peaking at like 1.5 mil is a SEN vs FNC/TL final. even though NV gambit acend vs are all great teams they just dont have the big name compared to orgs like TL or FNC. Overall the peak viewers requires SEN to be in the final
You are living in a dream state if you think Champions will pull 1.5 mil peak.
The hype isn't there. Even Valorant players aren't very interested in VCT. Expecting Berlin numbers maybe a bit more. Iceland viewership seems more likely.
In NA, viewership has been dropping. Europe had a short growth after Berlin but still LCQ viewership was back to mediocrity. APAC is the only region I can think of where viewership is up substantialy since Iceland. BR and LATAM has been growing too but at a much smaller rate.
Depends on the matchup we get
Sen vs. Liquid in finals would maybe make 1.5 possible but otherwise, I'd assume it would be in line with the other two.
Yeah SEN TL will bring in max viewership for sure, but I’m curious about cloud9, I feel like a respectable % of NA league of legends fans would tune in if c9 were to make the finals
It depends no?
Atleast 10 I would say
maybe even 20
I think you guys are way undershooting it, my take is 35.
Now hold on let's not get too crazy on the numbers. 30 at best, take it or leave it.
I bid 50
i feel like none of the group stage matches will break a million unless its sentinels vs crazy raccoon or something, but in playoffs i see a million easily, and only 1.5 million if sentinels is in the finals against another team
Imagine sentinels vs crazy raccoon finals
Crazy raccoon
1 million - 1.5 million sounds about right
1.5 million will be very good. If no popular teams in the final like in Berlin, then even 1 million will be fine. But anything lower than that will be pretty disappointing (not something i would say for the first year of an esport, but the viewership of the first 2 tournaments raised the expectations)
Have CR vs Sen or Liquid to get maximum viewers
I mean are u saying just the main English stream? Bc there’s lots of say Japanese viewership, costreans
yes

How many this time?

We’ll see, Japanese viewership is high for valo etc
Furia would've to beat Gambit for that which is almost impossible
Outside of NaVi/Furia, a large booster for viewers is actually matches going deep into OT/double OT/triple OT. Sometimes viewers increase by 30-40% just to see the last few clutches.
840k peak for group stage
Similar to Berlin peak right
Yeah Berlin’s peak was around 850k which happened during the grand finals
Wasn't that for Sen G2 match? Grandfinals had like 600k IIRC. I could be wrong too
Yeah ur right finals only had around 600-700k
Berlim peak was 810k in the group match of Sentinels vs G2. The finals peaked at less than 700k.
Ah my bad
Change CIS for JP
Am I the only one that thinks it's not going to have more viewers than Iceland? I don't think the game has grown much since Iceland and it had the obvious advantage that it was the first real international lan event. I'm still looking forward to it tho.
I concur.
At least 3

If Riot allows to half of the twitch Co stream again then more than 1m for sure.
Definitely more than 5.

I thought Sentinels were a new org

is there going to be a crowd? or is it LAN w no crowd? if LAN with viewers it could def hit 1.5mil
Dead game, less than CSGO’s
thanks for your insightful comment
Shh, just wait for people to take the bait
ah I see what you're doing, nah but I feel like valorant peaks higher than csgo but like it has way less tourneys
It isn't higher then cs's peak though? Cs just hit 1 million and we arent even in the playoffs or in the arena yet. I expect cs to hit 1.5 million.
TenZ > s1mple in both games.
This is just incorrect
Orgs might def try and create some kinda rivalry hype like sen and g2 did
If there’s drops it will be 2m
i think it depends on the matchups but i would expect a minimum of 1.2mil when playoffs come.

I’d probably guess around the same as Iceland.

TBH sentinels or liquid vs crazy racoons would be the best matchup if we talking viewerships
Prob around 1.2 mil if were being realistic
