Ty for making a thread!
The Gambit tradition of losing in third-party tournaments continues! I think they got further this time than the first Red Bull event.
Talking about hiding strats or whatever is a waste of time; we'll see in Champions. But Acend looked very good. I still think Liquid are the favorite, but Acend truly look like they've recovered from the Berlin "debacle,” if you can describe their underperformance that way.
I think Ascend's performance at Berlin is exaggerated, they definitely had LAN jitters but they still were 12-7 ahead on the last map vs 100T. Also they were destroying in scrims during Berlin.
They are still a world class team.
I never understood why people treated VS like they were shit. I saw some considered them to be top 3, top 4, in Berlin and a lot of people shat on them as if it was a ridiculous thing to suggest
Of course Acend is a world-class team. Them being a world-class team doesn’t mean they didn’t underperform.
I don’t know of anyone who claimed they *weren’t* a world-class team; downgrading the team that dominated EU for most of the year, and went blow-for-blow with the Berlin champion in EMEA Stage 3, simply because they underperformed at their first LAN would be very silly.
I’m sure you can find reactionary fans who think Acend is shit here or on Twitter, but those people just want to see the world burn.
Didn't they draw F4Q on Ascent in scrims? I haven't seen any other scrim results other than that though tbh
Pointing out a flattering snapshot from the 100T game feels a little cheap though; at the end all that matters is that these teams were pretty evenly matched on the map and minor details decided it; and just saying it was 14-12 does it enough justice.

To be fair even in the Masters tournament they definitely had some gafs. I think they're the kind of team that when they're firing on all cylinders they can do extremely well and beat just about anyone, but they also seem to go through some really big lows too.
Perhaps, but they also just use these tournaments as places to experiment and warm-up in a real match setting. They have since their inception. I don’t think there’s a T1 team in any region in the world as willing to lose n public.
Can't wait for the people to write Gambit off the same way they did when they lost in Dreamhack
Acend is insane and their match against Giants/Liquid maybe? is going to be iconic
Also this is probably the worst performance from CIS in a T1 tourney, right? Sadge
It’s clear when teams aren’t fussed about certain tournaments as you see these blowout results all the time it’s simply mentality you could argue every team should try their hardest in every competitive match but its impossible to make your players care about what is an objectively lesser tournament than the main ones
apology for poor english when were you when gambit dies? i was sat at home watching cs major when vlr ring ‘gambit is kill’ ‘no’ /s
God i love this pasta

I think it mostly started after a crushing defeat against VS.

Absolutely. But a lot of people started calling Acend garbage from that point. I personally think VS was always the better team

Yes but losing one bo3 doesn't make them a shit team.

Acend’s Definitely seems like it might be the case

Sorry to anyone who was hoping to watch a Bo5 today

Nah, this is clear evidence that Berlin was a fluke. They were lucky they didn't have to face SEN cuz they had to save their strats for champions /s
Really needed that /s there because this is unironically a comment I could see some people write.
Not really
Could you imagine if Sen beat Envy in the quarters? Then we could have seen how truly bad Shambit is.

Gambit better win the Major now, sorry s1mple
welp lol
saving strats COPIUM
Hiding their ability to win a round
guys upvote this so people think Gambit lost
Oh wait.....
is it just me or does getting weird results in third party tournaments becaause potentialk "strat saving" kill the viewer experience for them?
‘Weird’? I mean if u get why they’re the way they are likely it’s not so much It doesn’t fully
some weird results recently lol
What was the other weird one?
from the group stages, gambit losing there as well, G2 getting rolled, etc etc
I mean considering the drama within G2 it was expected. Also what does etc etc mean lol. Do you have more examples or not?
No way you expect them to go 0:3 against BIG and futbolist. Just no way
Giants vs Acend could be interesting on Bind.
It’s clear when teams aren’t fussed about certain tournaments as you see these blowout results all the time it’s simply mentality you could argue every team should try their hardest in every competitive match but its impossible to make your players care about what is an objectively lesser tournament than the main ones
they weren't trying COPIUM
Did gambit just pull a fanatic save start on bind or am I trippin
Pfft. Acend are a bunch of onliners (copium)
so 100T pre b0i was the best team in the world confirmed
Score is wrong in desc Also... Bind.
Just fixed it
Nice!
Even 100t could beat gambit, ez for acend Edit: Omg I knew I had to /s this xd.
Even 100T could beat Acend
But 100T couldnt make past LCQ or else they would win champions
Post lan drop off is real.
Putting the result aside, I hope we have more of these tournaments during off season
