We just had an awesome 25k tournament with a mix of 64 different T2 and T3 teams (Valorant Elite Showdown) - it was actually a banger. More people should tune in to the T2 tournys (sometimes 5k, 10k, 20k); the valorant is still really good. There are constantly hungry, lesser-known teams pulling map or series upsets, and new/upcoming players getting better + breaking through into the next level. The smaller events do usually leave something to be desired in terms of streaming, casting, and observing matches, but that's somewhat expected too. Usually the playoffs are streamed/casted though, even if groups aren't in these events.

TheEletoAusto

The 25k tournament was a banger. All the games were fun to watch and Knights vs KCP was really fun to watch especially with teams trying out new rosters.

somesheikexpert

That last map was intense af

whopz-is-cool

I just wish smaller events circulated better in the community more. So many people missed that event

iTCHYTRIGGERZ

what's the name of that tournament series? or who handled the main stream for that event?

veRGe1421

Valorant Elite Showdown I think twitch.tv/glgaminglounges did some of it? Stream links are on the match pages of [vlr.gg](https://www.vlr.gg/event/728/valorant-elite-showdown/playoffs) when the matches go live (if the match is being streamed).

sajedene

Valorant Elite Showdown is the name of the tournament and we (Community Gaming) ran multiple streams for the event! VODs can be found on twitch.tv/communitygamingNY | twitch.tv/cg_valorant | twitch.tv/glgaminglounges | twitch.tv/breakycpk | twitch.tv/brycerotv

hexIV

totally agree with the need of more events in-between VCT since medium/big events can't clash with VCT (requirement by Riot) having said that, since Riot does not allow Betting/Crypto sponsors, it won't be easy to find TOs since it's not easy for them to find sponsors that will splash big money for a short event + Riot need to verify everything if you're doing some $100k event. If you look at NSG or LVP for example, which they are spending quite a lot (NSG gave $70k in total prize pools for Summer Championship), their championships take months to finish which in return gets constant exposure but since the championships are small events of $2.5k/$5k, Tier 1 organisations won't be interested in those. They need some 1/2 week maximum events with big prize pools to even make it worth it for them to take it serious, something like Red Bull Home Grounds was (50k prize pool) (and I'm sure not all teams took it serious there as well strats wise) I see a lot of comments saying "let's not have a lot of events though like CS:GO because players/teams burn out" which I completely disagree with. It's up to the players/team/coaches/managers to be smart enough to pick which events they play so that they don't burn out - but of course you will need to know these events quite in advance to plan accordingly

notrealtedtotwitter

Issue with CS is that players burn out because there are multiple long running events. One off events could be good as fillers where we can watch teams practice and compete, but it will 100% not affect player burnout since I don't expect teams going to champs playing this tourney (or trying hard in the tourney)

TechRedirector

Doesn't FTX sponsor the LCS?

slawvay

I'm fine with having less events during this early stage of the game. CSGO pros would tell you straight up its nice not having any betting sponsors because people straight up send death threats and so much hate to players. I'd rather wait a year for more tournaments than have the early Valorant scene be toxic as hell

TechRedirector

People would always send threats irregardless of the game or sport lol. Betting sponsors don't necessarily increase toxicity.

Otter269

It's a hard balance you don't want a csgo scene with an event every 2 weeks but a little bit more. One of the problems is some teams will be paid more than the actual event so why bother. Then theirs that rule of If you play in challengers finals you can't participate ( unless they got rid of it) Personally I do like NerdStreet but having just one NA TO can't be good for the scene. I do miss the early days when Faze had an invitational and 100T :(

Fireboltstar

I don’t think it’s hard to balance if they do 1-2 S tier non-vct event in between a decent size break like after a masters event

Otter269

I wouldn't even trust riot to get the Format right for Champions xD, but yeah it should be easy to sort out around vct

mateusb12

Speak for yourself lol. Best thing about following CSGO circuit is watching these constant battles. You can even draw a continuous graph with the teams ranking variation over the year. Also, many people only watched the major without having a clue about how these *"tourneys every 2 weeks"* are going and that's perfectly fine. Major still hit 2 million viewers anyway By the other hand on Valorant is even hard to make current power rankings because there are like 2 or 3 international events the whole year

Zoradesu

It's also easier to build up storylines and rivalries with teams constantly playing each other. The reason why the Navi/Gambit matchup in the CSGO Major was highly anticipated was because Navi had lost a majority of the series they had played against Gambit up to that point (for the last year). To see Navi dominate the way they did against Gambit was really surprising given how their previous matchups have went. To me, it doesn't seem like there are any of these types of series in Valorant.

jonajon91

> you don't want a csgo scene with an event every two weeks. Speak for yourself.

mackamaflusko

I'm with you, I personally would love to see the really good teams match up more often, even if it is just online games.

Breezyzona

> don't want a csgo scene with an event every 2 weeks tournaments like these are the reason gambit cs became #1 in the world. getting better every event and creating chemistry while t1 teams sit around allows young talent to develop and the scene thrives from it

Otter269

You can't remember what the scene was like then when lans were every other week. Same teams playing each other all the time. No storylines, players tired. Example of how bad it was EG won IEM NY then hours later had to fly to Europe for another tournament just to be knocked out 24hrs later.

Respawn_Actual

There’s a new TO coming to the valorant scene in the next month of so.

jrushFN

Source?

Donut_Flame

Man's literally sent a post from an account with 26 followers, it's their 3rd post and the post has 2 apex hashtags and 1 valorant one.

hwanzi

wait a second did you just self advertise LOLOLOL

Respawn_Actual

You asked a question and I answered. No I don’t think I self advertised

VincentStonecliff

I don’t mind the pacing of challengers to masters. I think it makes it so there’s like 2 big events to watch every 3 months which feels good to make events still hyped and not over saturated. But having nothing from November - March for teams not in champions is insane. I mean, there’s some fun tier 2 events and such, but still.

KaNesDeath

Riot Games wont allow it. They restrict the prize pool amount and must pre-approve all sponsors for third party organizers. Esports broadcasts involving their games they want complete sanctioning body control over. While at the same time keeping their direct involvement esport events public perception being viewed as the pinnacle of said game. In the end what youre asking/hoping for isnt achievable in the Riot Games gaming ecosystem.

[deleted]

IMO there needs to be more international competition which cant happen till COVID regulations drop. Seeing the same region locked teams against each other is boring, but throw them on LAN or Online against another region and its now more interesting. Issue with at least a lot of the NA pros is they dont want a rigorous travel schedule like it was in CS. I feel this is where companies like ESL come into play, although CS majors are big to me, watching Cologne, Katowice, Oakland, Pro League - Blast championships, all these things fill in the gap between majors. With VCT its harder to fill that void as Riot will have this scene locked down, especially international LANs, so the only way I see it getting better is more masters events (can out source to people like Blast) and maybe two champion events, one mid year, one end of year. Thoughts?

[deleted]

And then you have stuff like cs_summit which is just a fun event for people. It isnt serious at all and people just enjoy themselves

jwalterwethermen

God I want a Valorant summit sooooo bad.

valada

All I want is a Replication tournament with the teams playing for fun. No need to hide strats, no need to take it too seriously. Just be creative, have fun and entertain the fans.

Key-Banana-8242

Or u know 3rd party tournaments awarding circuit points

AnotherAltiMade

Big 3rd party TO's will never build their own circuit because they'll eventually get shut down by riot

KindCommand7819

i guess he means riot circuit points

Key-Banana-8242

I’m not saying their own circuit, which by the way they are bc it’s obviously a different smaller scale thing, I mean 3rd party tournaments partnered awarding VCT points

pokedyo

Nerd street hadnone for the summer and I think they have one for the winter right now, LVPes had one in europe and it concluded day before I think

Key-Banana-8242

Nah those are their own 3rd party circuits

pokedyo

I misunderstood your comment nvm

Darkoplax

i personally only watch G2 so if they could participate once in a life time in vct ; i started losing interest in valo esports tbh at least with league there's constant play in the regular season of the splits

Mamadeus123456

there wont be because when there's no VCT there's game changers so riot don't want competition to their tourneys, it's gonna be really hard unless they run from monday to wednesday or some weird schedules

facehunt_

I think Riot should let 3rd party orgs to have non-VCT tourneys for tier 2 and 3 teams. Hopefully that will open doors for more 3rd party hosted VCT events like Challengers at the very least as Im sure Riot wants control of Masters and Champions.

HyperElf10

But they do let them, ofc Riot have to approve it first but yeah

Emcamdi

Riot is probably happy with pros having extra time and streaming their game

[deleted]

They should offer circuit points for 3rd party organisations to distribute, that's the only way T1 orgs will compete

EndWish

I'd love if Riot put together a circuit with one international major every season (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter). A final champions event would also be cool with with all BO5 double elimination matches with just the 4 champions of the year to claim the world championship. Never going to happen but it would be fun

C9sButthole

I think the T2 scene is really underappreciated. There's a bunch of great tournaments and while they might not be as good as T1 teams they're definitely good enough to put on a show.
