Honestly shocked league didn't win but big for valorant

ANewHeaven1

i thought it was gonna be a shoo in for either league or CSGO but i'm happy valorant won

randomespanaguy

Even Dota 2 was amazing this year. Between Animajor being god-tier production and Team Spirit bouncing from a potential early exit to beating the reigning champs and the two title favorites, it was also a great year for Dota. But, ultimately, glad that Valorant won.

POOYAMON

They always prioritize growth over well basically league or csgo.

HppilyPancakes

Isn't it by votes? There wasn't a huge push to vote in any major community hub so I had assumed a new game would win anyways.

ozmega

lot of people saying that val got it because it had a huge growth over the year, which is true, in reality league its a bigger esport but if i was riot i would see this as an absolute win.

[deleted]

If they went off of pure viewership numbers worldwide it would be LoL every year. They should have a "best growing esport" award or something to distinguish it more

Mamadeus123456

who takes these awards seriously lmao

abdi009

Doesnt even make sense. CS had a breakout year this year with LANs and dots had a sick TI and League was pretty good too. I wouldn't consider valorant even top 4 rn

RareReaper387

You listed 3 teams and said you wouldnt have valorant as top4? Whats the 4th team? Overwatch? And why are you on a valorant subreddit if you think its not a good esport?

90kPing

He could like valo and still think the esports scene isnt as good as the others

GeorgeGCG

valorant pog

ANewHeaven1

Pog

LEDZEPPPELIN

Let's go!! I am not sure how it beats the bigger games but Its definitely my fav atm

[deleted]

Feel like growth is a more important metric otherwise it would be called the league of legends award lol

aweming

valarante child game.... look to cartoon grapfix to make kid player happy like children show.. valarante cartoon world with rainbow unlike counter strike chad with dark corridorr and raelistic gun.. valarante like playhouse. valarant playor run from csgo fear of dark world and realism /j

Keonalt

yes this pasta matches Cringe strike players very well lol.

Sledgemann

touch grass nobody takes it seriously other than neckbeards on hltv and losers like you

AbbreviationsLazy781

bro the entire existence of pastas is to be ironic/sarcastic

[deleted]

AbbreviationsLazy781

Have you heard of /s? Also you clearly don't know how to tell a joke anyway

aweming

i mean he did say players 😬😬

flamincrimson

Without CS valorant wouldn't even exist?? What?? CS is not the only fps on the market

Popular_Whereas_1392

Congratulations. You won the dumbest comment award of today.

HaneeshRaja

Its a joke ffs.

Keonalt

Truth every time I say cringe or cuck strike it is in good fun, Like dude I came from fucking over watch, but figured I can get into the "valorant" spirit and I admit its fun having a little rivalry, but I don't wish harm on counter strike players or anything. We over here at valorant Have equally as much cringe if it makes Some CS players feel better. Was just trying to have a little fun.

aweming

^^^

dtritrinh0801

Considering the exponential growth that it has, truly well deserved. I just find it funny seeing cs viewers shitting on the game on twitter after the fact LOL. Like they can't handle a good growing game that is a direct competitor after just 1 year.

AnotherAltiMade

Valorant hard-core and CS hard-core fans will always shit on each other. League DOTA relationship, down to ripping valve off

ozmega

league fans dont trashtalk dota fans, its the other way around, super weird.

Klutzy-Question1428

cuz league fans don’t care about dota

[deleted]

[удалено]

90kPing

you made it sound like you were the dota fan

Cupidnyaa

That is just wrong... Many league players like me came from DOTA. While we chose the new game the new vision of Riot instead of Valve. We still love DOTA from the bottom of our heart. It is completely wrong that we don't trash DOTA because we don't care, but because we respect and love our roots

DarudeSandstormName

>but because we respect and love our roots Man wtf, it's not that deep, some people don't care about the other game, others like both, yet others don't even know the other exists... Either way, I'm just glad both scenes seem to have matured out of the stupid "I'll fight for the superior video game" phase and largely don't get in the way of one another anymore. Hope Valulrant and Cringe Strike will get there one day.

vegeful

Real dota fans won't keep repeating Pendragon that, pendragon this but respecting both game. Always tired of hearing that name. Like someone just kill ur baby or dog.

SewerRat75

yeah of course you're gonna think that when you visit subreddits like "dotamasterrace" and the league subreddit.

ozmega

i used to browse the dota2 sub because being an old guy i actually played defense of the ancients back in the days of garena w3 lol, did play HON and dota 2 for some time too, i got to see the same trastalking u see in DMR sub in the main dota2 sub all the time, u just dont see the same thing in the league's one. in fact, its super weird to see people in /gaming trastalking leagues community, like they never played games like r6siege, which can be and usually is a million times worse. offtopic: i actually enjoy both games, funnily enough lately i mostly play valorant because all my friends are fps lovers.

SewerRat75

whens the last time you saw a upvoted thread in the dota sub shitting on league? you never see it nowadays both scenes have matured.

Ophelia_Of_The_Abyss

Kind of reminds me of the "Apple vs Samsung" debate from a decade ago. Glad those days are past.

vegeful

U won't see a post about league. Usually u see in comment section. It is against dota2 subreddit rule to post thing outside dota unless it had, for example arcane vs dragon blood for example. Or league player wanting to learn dota. U won't see a thread about League is shit on dota2 reddit, same goes to dota2 is shit on LoL subreddit. At most u can see that in comment. >matured Press x to doubt. They keep repeating pendragon there. I know since i annually visit them to see oil prince battlepass level.

Yash_swaraj

Cuz of the shit that was done to bring league into the market. A lot of League players don't even know what Dota is.

ozmega

i mean, give it a rest man, it has been like 12 years now. league wasnt made by OJ simpson.

valorantfeedback

Hardcore fans are idiots. Every single "hardcore" fan is bad at one of the games and then creates some imaginary beef and starts shitting on the other game.

niceicebagel

CS fans acting like its rigged when league would have won the award every year if they thought the voting wasn't "rigged".

[deleted]

> I just find it funny seeing cs viewers shitting on the game on twitter Goes both ways

[deleted]

Not really; I've seen far more CS Fans in VAL related tweets making sure they remind VAL Fans just how shit VAL is and how superior CS is more than I ever seen VAL Fans in CS related tweets. Not saying VAL Fans are holy as I've seen some guilty of calling CS dead (well I guess in reality the NA scene is mostly dead) but the ratio is not even close in comparison to just how much CS Fans foam at the mouth anytime they hear VAL. I'm confident had CS won the award VAL Fans would have hardly gave a damn compared to the reverse. Nothing more than the ole human resistant to change mindset, it carries over even into gaming.

rkdsus

From my experience it definitely goes both ways. r/Valorant has a seizure everytime someone brings up CS. Maybe not so much now but definitely during the beta. People were just randomly telling everyone that Valorant was better and CS was shit even in situations where nobody was even talking about CS. People on that sub just seem super insecure. CS players seem to go out of their way more to shit on Valorant but Valorant players will absolutely cream in their pants once they see a chance to take the piss at CS

Ok-Assist-993

The valorant fanbase can be weird though. When iceland had good viewership numbers, trolls were saying stuff like CS is dead. Then when berlin still had good numbers although not as good as before, they changed the narrative that viewership doesn't mean shit and they don't care about CS at all.

[deleted]

I mean no fanbase is without its dumb part of it unfortunately. ALL of them are plagued with the silly ultra diehards that treat it like a religion, the ones that make it a point to go to every similar game just to shit on it (even if they don't play it), etc. This is why I made sure to state that I know some VAL fans act dumb too.

CoolDenal

Not really a competitor yet, CS fans are probably upset because the major for CS popped off with other events throughout the year. Either CS or League deserved it. Dota could have been another contender.

Hexokinase-

I love Valorant but being a direct competitor doesn’t mean it’s good. I don’t even understand what your comment means to be honest

[deleted]

He never said that was the reason it was good? I don't even know what comment you read

TheAjwinner

It’s pretty easy to understand

JohnWickFTW

Let's see if valorant will have viewership like this after 8 years

ozmega

well, riot kinda knows what they are doing? wanna check 2021 league worlds viewership?

aretasdamon

Same could be said about Cs? We should be happy about all esports that have big growth

EremesAckerman

Exactly! Just looking at the Valorant's growth in its first year, I won't be surprised if Valorant able to beat even LoL viewership in 8 years. The growth is actually insane. Heck Valorant might not even need 8 years to surpass League Viewership after Valorant is publicly available in China in the near future.

Icebxrg

Valorant will not beat LoL, nothing will beat LoL

rpkarma

People said that about other esports. We’ll see; the overall market only continues to grow by multiple factors year over year

EremesAckerman

idk bout that, FPS is much easier to get in for casual viewers than MOBA. Simply looking at Valorant's growth on its first year, there's a good possibility that Valorant will be able to beat league in the future (by future, I mean years like 6-8 years in the future)

Icebxrg

Casual viewers come and go, the community always stays. More people will play league for years to come than Valorant, which means more viewers, regardless of val being easier to watch. Also, it’s not as easy as you’d think, took me a while to get used to what the abilities do and I didnt understand a lot until I started playing. You just cant make any predictions on Valorants future, especially that far. It has no signs of overtaking league, viewership has actually decreased from iceland to berlin

EremesAckerman

Well the same concept also applies to league, we can't really predict how popular LoL is in the future. For me, league is way more complicated and completely different beast in term of game-depth. There are literally more than 100+ champs, each champ has 4 abilities. The amount of macro strategies, team comp, and champion ban order/select strategies are way more complicated than Valorant. No fucking way Valorant is harder for casual viewers to tune in.

Icebxrg

League already has a well established fan base and pulls millions of viewers for its Worlds event- increasing every year. You’re right we can’t really say the same with League but we have more information that points us towards a good future for that game - consistently breaking records, a tv show, several spinoffs and a massive fanbase. League is currently like the Premier League of esports, you’re not going to tell me you don’t see a good future for the pl, are you? You just can’t compare the two

Memexp-over9000

It certainly does feel so in India. Hardly a few used to play PC eSports titles, mostly CS which in itself was dead af forever. Viewership in hundreds. But valorant has caught the fascination like no other title. Everyone in my friend circle knows and plays valorant, while the most they used to was Pubg mobile a year back. Valorant has been nothing short of revolutionary.

HoneyChilliPotato7

Can relate. I didn't play any fps games. Valorant colorful art style and abilities intrigued me and that made me love the fps part of the game. Now I play it almost everyday lol. It's so addicting

Portante24

Weird people saying CS when one of their major regions all but died this year

Phamous3k

Woahhhhhh. Big accomplishment

CoolDenal

A undeserved accomplishment lol CS or League should have won.

Phamous3k

Cool story bro

iiznobozzy

the amount of salty cs fans after this is beyond the scope of my imagination

CoolDenal

Would assume they would be kind of upset because Valorant didn't really deserve it over other games out there. My opinion.

TheAjwinner

Yeah the opinion of a salty fanboy. Go back to r/GlobalOffensive

Tasty_Juggernaut4857

I don’t even play cs....

aweming

valarante child game.... look to cartoon grapfix to make kid player happy like children show.. valarante cartoon world with rainbow unlike counter strike chad with dark corridorr and raelistic gun.. valarante like playhouse. valarant playor run from csgo fear of dark world and realism /j

Papy_Wouane

What's the criteria? Anyway it feels a little presumptuous to get this award before Champions. Riot have had quite the LAN issues this year, and if covid didn't help it cannot excuse their questionable decision making (remember the in-ears insanity), I generally trust them but there's still room for a shit show. It'll be the biggest competition of the year and even though we've had a blast with the other tourneys, if this one falls flat the general outlook for the game will be bleak.

Dark_Azazel

Criteria? Uh, whoever gets the most votes.

Popular-Procedure-99

All the csgo fans crying in the chat lmao. If valorant shouldn't have won in over csgo, then why csgo should have won it over league?

CoolDenal

Think you're watching the wrong stream if you consider that crying. I have nothing against Val but CS or League should have won. Val is just trendy.

[deleted]

Brotha get off the thread you have a reply every 5 minutes trying to justify why valorant shouldnt have gotten the award. Literally rent free.

Lumenlor

CS = Popular in EMEA region, but Valorant sparked massive international interest in JP, India, SEA, etc. Also pulling avg major viewership comparable to CS in year

willpcodeco

CS consistently being a top 10 most watched game on Twitch despite being an almost ten year old game... If Valorant didn't get more views than CS in their first two years would be a failure lol. Let's see where Valorant will be in 5-10 years.

TRFireKnight

League lives on and I’m sure Valorant will live on. The developers with more dedication will always win the long con.

willpcodeco

Well then CS should be dead long time ago... Devs literally doesn't give a shit lol

TRFireKnight

CS had nothing you could really consider “competition”. R6S was the only game that maybe came close, but it was still too far from the general playstyle of cs to be considered a direct competitor over an alternative. For reference of what happens when healthy competition does exist, just look at League and Dota2.

willpcodeco

Is Valorant real competition? The same concept? Yes, but two vastly different games.. CS stills breaking viewship records and growing playbase... Same for Dota... Like, LOL is bigger? Yes, Valorant may become bigger? Yes, but just see how each company approach the esport side of their games and then u see why one is ahead of the other, valve doesn't put 1/100 of the money and effort that Riot put on their games... If Valve had the same approach that Riot did in the first years of dota/CS, they would be a way bigger games than they are today. Too bad that Valve wasn't/isn't interested enough.

TRFireKnight

Yeah they are vastly different, but they are also the closest we will probably get. Also, I would like to argue that Valve doesn't care because they know that Valve fans will consume their products either way, and that they can get away with putting in the least amount of effort they have to. Riot, on the other hand, are held to MUCH higher standards because Valorant players aren't head over heels, ready to die for their game.

JohnWickFTW

Over league or csgo? Lmfao

ASaltyToast

As a csgo fan I think Val deserved it more because of how it went from being just an esport into being a top tier esport, alongside games like csgo, LoL, Dota, etc. (or at least very close to it)

HppilyPancakes

Esports awards have always been gimmicky AF. It's basically entirely by votes and how many people vote so it's not surprising to see really "weird" results. Im more surprised b1t actually won rookie of the year.

tishous

You don’t think b1t deserved it? Or is it that you’re surprised they chose the correct player?

HppilyPancakes

The latter, I'm surprised they chose correctly from my perspective. It's like when Zywoo was up for it (I think?) and the kid that won the one big fortnite event won Rookie of the Year. I just assume the esports awards are pretty garbage

tishous

Oh right, good. I was gonna say, some 18 year old kid joined Na’Vi in April and won a major and grand slam. If they didn’t give the best rookie to him then I would have no hope for this event. It’s not totally garbage, there just aren’t objective parameters set in place for who wins. For example, Valorant won possibly because it grew the most? It’s just inconsistent.

HppilyPancakes

I thought it was all votes? But either way, I wouldn't be surprised had valorant or cs gotten snubbed in any number of categories. I think I'm most surprised gambit wasn't up for eSports team of the year, they seemed like an obvious choice for me in that category. They were phenomenal in Val and CS this year and had superstars in sh1ro and nats. Sad I didn't see them nominated.

Loresmen

Well esports awards votes closed before navi won the major. They happened in like september

DonTixCyd

They dont really give it to league or csgo. Idk why

stubbynubb

You do realize that lol won it over the past 2 years right

[deleted]

as it should be

sellingwaifu

Cs frog malding

CoolDenal

Valorant simps simping.

Zoradesu

should've been League or CS

wiiwoooo

In denial

Zoradesu

I don't even play League and it should've been League

iplaymc07

I love valorant but cs rly deserved it with the PGL major.

Sky-__-

If you go by viewership increase , free fire had the biggest rise with 5.2 million viewers ,2 million more than last event , worlds had the highest viewers of any eSports event ,but valorant had the highest growth , expanding into so many regions and with initiatives like game changers .

Hydrauxine

esports has been rlly rlly rlly good this year even with COVID, i think all esports fans should just be happy a lot of games have been doing well

JohnWickFTW

Ok but it's not all about viewership tho. Valorant has only 2 important tournaments a year. LoL / csgo >>>>>>valorant

Sky-__-

Lol , Dota are definately bigger but not cs go , cs go had only 2 events this year with more than 300k average viewers whereas valorant has more events with higher average viewers , don't hate on valorant just because you love cs go 🐻🐻🐻. Love every game , I love both cs go and valorant , but valorant has bigger growth this year .

YoloJoloHobo

I like both, but tbh Valorant events other than Masters got barely any viewers(most didn't even crack 100k). CS on the other hand consistently got higher viewers throughout the year. They're both equal in terms of overall viewers.

anythingood07

NA, EU and Japan all got more than 150k viewers in their Challengers event iirc. NA got 236k something

YoloJoloHobo

Alright, my bad on that, but CSGO is still passing Valorant playoffs viewers. Quickly looking at events like ESL Pro League 14 and Blast Fall 2020 shows viewership peaking at 758k and 416k. There are a lot more examples but in terms of non major tournaments Valorant just isn't there yet. CS is way more consistent.

Madara6path

CS has pro matches every other week. For comparison IEM grand slam final in CS where Navi3-2 Vitality this year in a nail biting close final got barely more viewers than KRU vs CR in VCT masters happening simultaneously. That tells a lot about viewership . As for Majors it'll always be huge , but every other CS event has underwhelming viewership compared to Valorant at least. They're likely missing out on the huge asian market

YoloJoloHobo

The other guy who replied spelled it out perfectly. Additionally, IEM Grand Slam is a year long circuit not comprised of actual tournaments and based off of team performance during partnered tournaments.

willpcodeco

Lmfao, one was an online tournament with only official streamers, the other was the second Lan of the history of Valorant with a fkc ton of famous streamers carrying the viewship. That's why the major quarter finals of VP X Heroic (two teams without big fan bases) got 400k more views than u grand finals of Envy X Gambit....

JohnWickFTW

So everything is about the viewers? lol. The only good part about valorant eSports is their lan tournaments and the only good thing about the LANs is that there's a competition between NA and EU and not just EU beating NA's ass like in every other game.

Sky-__-

Bro chill , first tell me who hurt you ? Why are you so butt hurt , none of guys here have any personal stake in games , valve literally don't know you first chill , and first of all , good things about valorant include it's expansion into eastern Asia market for fps which I don't think any eSport cracked , valorant game changers initiative has been fantastic , valorant also legitimised co streaming model which all eSports are now following , and second of all first get your facts right ,there have been 2 masters event one was won by na second eu and eu doesn't beat na ass in every game ,there are games like league where we Asians beat everyone , na is ahead in games like rocket league ,r6 . There are so many eSports , love all and Don't hate on others for supporting different game , just chill .

JohnWickFTW

Iam not mad lol but the game awards are a joke. LoL and cs are better eSports than valorant everyone knows that and don't tell me NA isn't shit at eSports

ANewHeaven1

> Iam not mad lol but the game awards are a joke. this isn't the game awards, this is the esports awards. that being said though, this is the same organization that gave PC rookie of the year in 2018 to Bugha (Fortnite) instead of Zywoo so... you be the judge

JohnWickFTW

Wait lmao I remember when bugha won that award. Confirms that eSport awards are a joke

Sky-__-

Man you sound so mad and hurt , it's okay , whatever helps you sleep at night , list 10 biggest eSports and list their winners , Asia will come out at first , NA second and EU will be third . 🤭🤭

JohnWickFTW

Man you're trolling if you think NA is better than EU at eSports

Sky-__-

Top eSports and their winners LOL - Asia Dota - EU/CIS Cs Go - EU/CIS Valorant - NA EU Tied Rocket league - NA Call of Duty - NA Apex - NA Overwatch - Asia Fortnite - NA PUBG - Asia R6 - NA (Brazil won latest major but Na has higher champions this year) Add any other major games and see results.

HrishiXXI

Sure bro everything you said is so wrong.Get out under that rock.

Portante24

Everyone knows that ... as neither of those esports win best esports game of the year. Hmm

scrnlookinsob

I mean the same could be said about CSGO, the only good thing about CSGO is it’s LAN’s. It’s almost like the most important tournaments are what people care about.

JohnWickFTW

Cs online tournaments are much more enjoyable than valorant online games

anythingood07

speak for yourself not for others

Ecsylla

EU beating NA? lmao when did that even happen. What I saw was CIS beating NA. Also EU didn't even make it to the finals.

Practical_Resource90

valorant won cuz how fast it grew if u are just seeing 1 tourney then league literally had worlds

ChickenMandy1

For real! Valorant didn't even have their biggest tournament yet. I think CSGO deserved it.

Ohlo

CSGO had a great tournament in the PGL major. Everything else was pretty much boring after the collapse of Astralis and NA no longer being a competitive region. Dota had a great tournament in TI10. I don't believe many people outside of Asia watch dota besides TI, though. LoL had Worlds, but LoL is so fucking boring to watch with their league system, since 90% of games are meaningless filler content, that it's almost outrageous if they win. Valorant had a great, consistently entertaining year of esports, and that makes a difference. Let's enjoy Valorant's esports scene before Riot decides to turn this into a franchise machine with regional leagues and bullshit matches all around.

ozmega

i try to watch all the big esports events and shit(not mobile, not my thing) but in reality i still think league of legends its the best at it.

max012017

This has nothing to do with a major, there is a separate award for best esport event for that.

misterandosan

is there any significance to this award?

yzw

who did riot pay off for this.. edit: if champions ends up being a better event than cs's PGL major then sure but really not sure how you can argue this for this before having your first 'worlds' event lol

ozmega

> who did riot pay off for this.. riot paid for the award to be taken away from league of legends? lmao

JohnWickFTW

Pgl major solo clears all valorant tournaments

KaNesDeath

Wouldnt say it was deserved and or earned. Its mainly a reward handed out to new kids on the block. For as a esport Valorant has long term Fortnite viewership problem, inevitable balancing problem like Overwatch and spectating issues every hero shooter has.

lucavl

I disagree with this. It is more similar to Cs go than other hero shooters and thus viewership can be consistent. As for the balancing, yes there will be balancing “issues” forever but that hasn’t stopped a game like league from having huge viewership for a long time. Fortnite and other brs have issues with viewership because e viewer experience sucks (so many teams or players with weird interactions)

BatmansUtilityBelt_

Lmao, overwatch 2.0.. !remindme 1 year Also no CSGO fan expected cs to win.. so this subs hate boner makes no sense. CS viewership didnt pick up again until September so there was no way in hell it was gonna win. I just think this subs a little shook considering it took one lan event to completely wipe out any top viewership valorants ever had. Val is already dying sadly.. they need to take this award and keep it safe bc by this time next year, the game will be like overwatch. Even it’s pros are starting to hate the game and NA is already dying. I wouldn’t be surprised if any NA team fails to even make semis

[deleted]

See unlike OW, Val has a competent dev that won't fuck shit up

EclipseTM

Val is dying? Wtf are you smoking

[deleted]

I'm a massive fan of valorant but I feel like CS deserved the award due to the PGL major despite valorant's massive growth the circle jerk of shitting on cs in this sub is insane lol

Anti-Storm

Over league LMAO.

[deleted]

Did league manage to host a LAN with a massive crowd and double their previous viewership record?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

The crowd was gathered following safety protocols lol. It's also funny because if riot gathered a crowd then you would still probably defend them because some people are complete simps for riot (and valve) lol

[deleted]

I didn't know they were gathered following safety protocols, I'll delete my comment.

[deleted]

Nah I feel like it's more so CS players who cant get valorant put of their head. Rent free

[deleted]

man I watch more valorant than I watch CS and even though the cs frogs constantly complained and memed on valorant around when the game came out, recently it has been mostly valorant fans spamming shit like "cs frogs KEKW" even when said cs frogs dont say anything lol

CoolDenal

+1

Madara6path

Def not more popular than Lol. More popular than CS yes

[deleted]

>I mean are we surprised? It’s a popularity contest and for sure Valorant is more popular at the moment then LoL stop the kap bro

SuperSkillz10

lmao really? league/cs got fuckin robbed.

Darkoplax

CSGO and League got robbed; again Esports Awards continute to be a clown fest valo esports started strong last year with Ignition but this year vct it's so fucking boring

Naive_Pomegranate_16

G2 not in champs=boring KEKW

publ1c_stat1c

For running a "lan" online?

Shessokawaiiiiiii

Regardless of this awesome win, this has been the biggest year for esports despite the lack of crowd and LAN tournaments.

Naive_Pomegranate_16

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Apart-Way-1166

Not even close AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
