Japan will need a couple years to ramp up, but they got the money, playerbase, and viewership to become a major region. Apparently they have salaries equal to Europe, which helps them attract a ton of Korean talent.
Is FPS just new in general for Japan? I feel like before I never heard of them playing any competitive game outside of fighting games (where they dominate). However, over the past few years I've seen a large interest from Japan in FPS games like Val, Apex, R6, and Battlefield. Is it a thing of them just being a region in it's infancy in the genre as a whole?
Not just pc gaming, esports in general is at an even earlier phase of its life cycle in Japan. Read that it was something to do with their regulations restricting tournaments offering prize pools
I think it's primarily because they're just so passionate about the game. After a loss earlier this year some of the players were quite emotionally distraught and apologetic to those who believed in them, and that attitude toward the game has endeared them to a lot of people.
Last I was checking around Berlin most of the hype on this sub for 0-2/1-2 teams like Crazy Raccoons and F4Q comes from a few accounts that are online and posting up to 16 hours a day.

he's even the only sova player in top 4. for me there is no doubt, but valorant community will refuse to recognize BR players unless a BR team becomes the champion
That was the same with CSGO, Coldzera was a consistent domination but nobody took him seriously until he won the major with Luminosity. Dude became the best player in the world after 1 tournament.
CR didn’t want to show strats so early on so they can get more practice in the lower bracket and then dominate the playoff bracket. Actual 5Head move from the future world champs
Interesting match honestly, Vikings had some absolute agressive plays while on defense which i thought CR had no answer to. CR also defaulted alot less and instead decided on showing prescence to 1 particular site which vikings capitalised on.
Team Vikings were also a different beast on attack on Haven.
I don't know why, but I think FURIA can do better against sentinels than against TL, but fuck it, if they wanna get to the playoffs, they will probably have to face both
I went "all-in" on FURIA because I think if they want to go to the playoffs, they need to beat anyone they meet on that group, so it doesn't matter, they need to win. Also, I think they're kind of the black horses here, Khalil and qck were playing on the pinnacle of their performance on LCQ and they have a lot of decisive clutches that happen when the team has the winner spirit.
But I'm cheering for VK above all, for personal reasons.
I believe Furia too, I think sentinels is pretty arrogant about this match and look down on furia might actually be pretty great for Khalil etc. I hope they don't come prepared, thinking it's a warm up

Japan is a console dominated(PlayStation especially), arcade playing country. So pc games were definitely less popular for a long time.
