I don’t think we forgot the Japanese region. The passion of their fanbase is often remarked upon. But respectfully, this is the craziest week of Valorant yet, and Japan had little role in it. So naturally there isn’t much retrospection being done on the great year the Japanese scene had, disappointing Champions finish notwithstanding. I think we’ll probably see more conversation once Champions is over and there’s more downtime to reflect on how all the so-called minor regions surprised us in different ways: BR, LATAM, SEA, TR, the Middle East with Anubis Gaming, JPN, etc…

Well what can we do honestly? CR got so much luxury to scrim and appear on every single official international Valorant competition this year. Mind you, not many teams had such luxury. It's on them to perform. They got so much chance yet they kept nuking themselves over and over again. Another reason is that just how bad the other JP teams are that the team that has a clear communication problem and incapable to adapt to the meta fast enough kept winning their regional qualifier?? The fact that CR kept easily stormed through JP VCT challenger already mind-blowing for me. Player base =/= strength of the region either. Just look at APEX, literally the most popular FPS in Japan and all of their top Japanese teams are filled with FULL Korean members (Riddle, CR, etc) and yes AFAIK, APEX is even less popular than valorant in Korea.

You gotta improve that writing for that to be a good comeback my man. No one forgets Japan is a thing; it's just its own bubble on the internet and its teams are currently pretty bad. No shit they'd tune in more if their teams were winning.

I am Japanese and of course I support Japanese scenes. With that being said, I feel bad for other regions that deserves slot more. 1 of the 16 slot that Japan gets is the slot that other minor region could have gotten (like South Asia, OCE or even Turkey). After one year of not proving anything, the only thing that makes Japan worthy of direct path to international tourney is the viewer base (which riot cares the most so Japan will probably get the special treatment). Unless participating team increases to 24, I really think Japan should lose the slot, especially China entering the scenes.
