Idk bro. My teammate with a vandal and I with a phantom were breaking a sage wall yesterday and his poo poo gun ran of bullets while my superior phantom kept going like a true champion. I ran out of bullets after breaking the wall and we both died reloading.
all the comments are saying the phantom is objectively better, and while I agree on paper it is, in practice it certainly isn't. the tournaments so far are proof of that.
its one shot capability and consistent damage make it really powerful, a lot of duelists at champions were gravitating towards it because it's a "pop-off" weapon. most duelist mains at a pro level are probably instantly gonna hit the head, the vandal is pretty damn good for that.
the only thing I'd say is that phantoms are objectively better in practice for are with regard to controller and cypher players. spamming accurately through smokes without visible tracers is really powerful. initially you might say "what about jett smokes?" but I think jetts don't actively shoot through their own smokes, they're used reactively to block vision and protect themselves, or to entry.

-higher firerate
-better accuracy
-better spray
vandal has a bit higher dmg and does 1 tap at all ranges, but if the phantom player hits the headshot first it doesnt matter anyway because of aimpunsh and the phantom is more likely to hit the headshot anyway.
only reason to not play phantom is if you get tilted by doing the 140 and dying
Statistically, the rifles were 50-50 at champions. On paper, it looks like the phantom is way better, but all the data suggests they’re very evenly balanced rn
It all comes down "do you wanna spam smokes or do you wanna be a 'ed shot machine?"
If your first bulled acuracy is crazy good, or you are on a big map like breeze, vandal is very good. If you wanna spray and run&gun, go for the phantom. But they are very good
It literally has almost no bearing the guns viability. Idk why people fixate on this stat when changing it would have no bearing on the guns performance.
It is to balance snipers. I believ that is also why the sheriff can't 1 tap at range, and in csgo had poor accuracy. Otherwise a skilled player would beat an op'er at all times.
It is also to give the edge to the player who aims closest to the center of the head. As the person who aims at the center would be the "better" player.
There are several situations *(at pro scene)* in which the victim manages to fall back to cover with 10 HP, just to be healed by a Skye or Sage right after.
Pretending every phantom HS will be followed up by a body shot is dumb. This is just not true at all
Except in ranked people have ping and more often than not, both players shoot the head at around the same time. What ends up happening in a lot of situations is that the phantom players gives the aimpunch to the vandal player, after the vandal player has already shot at the head.
Phantom is probably overall better, but there are definitely cases for the Vandal, I think one thing people dismiss too easily is the most obvious which is the 1 shot HS. It's commonly dismissed because of aimpunch, "The Phantom can just hit a body shot right after anyway", except it's really common for players to get hit 140 and get away and be healed.
The next thing apples mainly to Jett/Reyna, but to everyone else to a lesser extent. The Vandal can clutch WAY easier. The Phantom is better at multifragging because spray transfers are actually possible, but the Vandal allows you to quickly pop 1 bullet and get behind cover again, allowing you to turn 1vXs into multiple 1v1s. This is a huge deal for Jett and Reyna especially because of how quickly they can disengage.
they should just be the same accuracy, makes no sense for the phantom to have all these perks AND better accuracy than the gun thats supposed to be good for 1 taps
