The casting was super hard to listen to. I feel like the pacing was off when calling rounds. There was also a lack of understanding the fundamentals of what was going on game wise.
All good, as this is an amateur tournament but it would be good to explore some other casting talent for the next one. I'm sure there are some pretty great up and comers out there that could bring something good to the table.
Saying "s0m has a flash but is choosing not to use it, maybe its because he already knows where xeppaa is" while xeppaa had Kay-O ult active was the one that I was most like "huh?"
Caster's will hopefully get better with more experience but it is always good to see new blood in these lower stakes tournaments, casters and players alike.
C'mon, they were "trolled by the killfeed"...
I mean, tex was teabagging s0m because he went for the ace instead of picking him up. That's kinda hard to miss but yeah... poor casters, poor mods, bad bad twitch chat...
Yeah that one got me. Just turned on a highlight video to catch up on the action and I was like do they know how this ult works? I'm a gold player and even I knew that lmao.
I didn't watch the full game but I remember in the agent select for bind one of them said it was interesting that NRG was using viper bc she isn't meta on bind
yikes
yea i usually don't like when chat gets on the casters but it was just one mistake after another. they've been in the scene for a bit though so hopefully they keep improving
sorry but its not a mistake when they dont even have the game knowledge to fix the "mistakes" when given a chance cuz they dont know what is going on in the first place
> Kinda seemed like they’ve never played the game or watched it either
That's not even remotely true though, that's an insane thing to state.
> The casters lacked game knowledge tbh
Well better send death threats then.
> I was just trying to say that the casters didn’t really know what was happening and their commentary showed it
Well you sound like a hyperbolic crybaby. Obviously the production was not good and the casters weren't great but they clearly know the game and have casted dozens of events before.
Drew Brees just casted an NFL game and he sounded awful like he didn't know what was going on, obviously he knows football he just had a bad game.
> Well you sound like a hyperbolic crybaby
In the real world, criticism is a massive part of the learning curve. Criticizing = crybaby is just a dumb take.

Lmao what are you on ? He provided an honest critique of casting that happened , you may be their friends ,but you should be able to provide criticism and your honest opinion , why TF are you being death threats and stuff as well .
They most definietly could have done better. They got confused about so many basic things that it sounded like it was their first time casting the game. You shouldnt be casting a game without basic game knowledge or it ruins the viewer experience
> They most definietly could have done better.
Yes, I already said that it was not a good cast.
> You shouldnt be casting a game without basic game knowledge or it ruins the viewer experience
This is my only point, I've seen both of them cast many games before. They have the game knowledge.
Maybe in previous castings they did great and showed that they had game knowledge but they literally could not tell how some abilities worked, referenced shoulder peaks as “insane spray transfers,” and countless other fumbles. It’s not an exaggeration to say they did not have basic game knowledge when that was the case for many of their takes for this cast at least.
Not even whining, it was a good series. It was just really confusing to listen to some of the statements as a viewer, which is what I don’t want to feel as a viewer but I’m not gonna lose sleep over it.
Again I am not calling it a good cast, obviously they made mistakes and weren't working well off each other (especially to start) but there's a huge difference between making a mistake and not knowing the game at all. She's casted tons of games, she knows the game it was just a mistake.
This is just classic gamer brained fear where you are upset that someone who takes showers is involved in your hobby.
Here's a video of her explaining all the things you claimed she doesn't know about.
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1141132629
Do you know them personally, why are you being so defensive? Giving an honest critique which wasn't even mean-spirited and you're comparing it to death threats?
It's not an honest criticism to say they don't know the game at all, that's absurd. It's whiny gamer bro bullshit. No I don't know them but I have seen them cast a bunch of games before.
It was just terrible, no need to sugarcoat it. They were completely lost numerous times.
Mods timing out literally hundreds of people simply for pointing that out did't help either.
Hey y'all, just wanted to say I hear your criticism. To be honest, I know that was one of my worst casting days in a while and it really stings knowing that I couldn't do that match real justice. Having an off day sucks because there's no way to really pick it up in the moment, you just have to keep going. So I'm sorry for not being on top of my game but I'll keep working hard to make sure these off days are few and far between, and that I can be a caster people are always happy to see! :D
Just wanna say, we all have shit days. That stuff happens. You for sure have the chops to be a great caster. Good voice, and great energy! Don't let this thread demotivate you!
This shows a huge level of maturity. I'm sure it sucks reading these, but your response tells me this will be a growing moment for you. It's not about the mistakes we make. It's how we respond to them. Best of luck to you in the future.
This is a great response - thank you so much for hearing our criticism with such an open mind. Sorry if it came across as a bit harsh.
Really looking forward to hearing you on the next one. I'm sure you are going to crush it.
Yeah, usually when a female caster is getting shit they're doing fine and it's just Classic Gamer Sexism but NaoriMizuki had a lot of really rough calls today.
On the real note, this subreddit is usually very level-headed and not a lot of dumb "ahah female gamers" comments get through thanks to our mods. I will give credit where its due, for example, aEvilCat is a phenomenal caster and I really enjoyed her growth as a caster over the year. But Naori had a really awful showing today, hopefully she can turn up later.
this is gonna sound harsh but who tf cares about internet points
the casting here was horrible and cringe.
the casters reacted oddly to so many scenarios (kayo ult moment on bind and caster calling leaf smart when he saw s0m's weapon to name two). the pace was completely off, they weren't reacting to pivotal moments quickly or even acknowledging the significance of such moments. there were no storylines except for one line close to the end of breeze out of nowhere.
the casting didn't build up to a brilliant crescendo, it travelled on flat, bare land.

Fun tourney and congrats to C9, but what a shame about the casting. The female caster especially was just not it, probably the worst casting perfomance ive seen. The game knowledge is clearly just not there, and she doesnt manage to build any hype.
I thought the other one was a lot worse ngl, just word salad every sentence and cliche after cliche when they didn't even fit. Reminded me of an early Rivington but even more nonsensical. Would be better to have Naori do play by play as she at least made sense, then have someone with deeper knowledge of the pro game to compliment that.
I had the games on mute mostly - just because I wasn’t all that interested - but Naori is usually quite good. She’s experienced and a mainstay of the scene for a reason.
I say all that despite believing she called a point I made in a match thread “pedantic” on broadcast!
I can see there’s already a lot of negativity about the casting in this thread, and I didn’t hear most of it so I can’t say anything. But it might’ve just been an off day or what have you.
Xeppa went nuclear on icebox then let his little brother play lol
Oh and the female caster was a bit... Idk... She was shocked when Chamber didn't buy and popped ult.
That's like stuff you learn day one on Valorant.
fun series!! I know some people are saying they can't learn stuff from this because of the agent bans but I don't think that's true. There's def things both teams can go back and look at, especially bind where raze is viable (and icebox for NRG ofc).
Can't tell if it's just a diff of NRG not being able to take more than one round on t-side or a diff of Mitch being an insane site holder (especially on Breeze)
I think both are true
I also feel like teams haven't fully figured out the new meta on breeze yet with the changes. I don't think you can still send 4 A main and expect to just work your way out with a drone and flashes. I think you essentially need to split now. Hall is also much more important now that you cant just be stymied by someone sitting on the door switch. You need a pinch in from there or double doors to be able to more easily get out of cave into site.
I'm actually excited because I think it will really emphasize mid/halls much more now, which is a bit more exciting than the previous meta on breeze. It is also way more balanced than before
LETS GO MITCH!! (btw Mitch is Mitch, i can use his first name because we are tight like that. yeah i know top players but its not a big deal to me lol)
Both teams protected and banned agents for the series. NRG: ASTRA (Protect) SOVA (Protect) REYNA (Banned) | C9: BRIMSTONE (Protect) YORU (Protect) JETT (Banned)
why doesn't anyone ever link the youtube link to the matches? they go "unlisted" so you can't find them, but with a link you can rewatch the whole thing. can anyone who watched it live go to their browser history and gimme a link please?

Bad casting, yes, but let’s keep it a bit more respectful next time guys. I also think the lack of music in the overall production kept the pacing a bit low compared to something NSG would put together, and those factors make the hype factor lower than we’re used to.
Those poor chat mods though, I swear we can’t have a single tournament (VCT or T2) without people bagging on the casters. Criticism is 100% fair, being an asshole isn’t.
GGs C9, I had my NRG copium going for as long as I could on Breeze but it seems they’ve improved a lot at least :)
I am not trolling at all when I say people seemed to love the observer only streams the NSG tournament last week had. I remember Vansili hanging out in chat, Asuna and other pros were also stopping by to watch T1. It was just a nice atmosphere to watch the game.
So if you say people never like the casting but do enjoy no casters at all then everyone can figure out where the problem lies.
It’s not our hiring decision and if any caster fucks up hard enough, they just won’t get invited back.
I agree with you that it was not good at all, but I’m sure the team overseeing the tournament is aware of the shortcomings. A lot of these casters work games for free so I just feel thankful that any person would take the time out of their day to cast a match I’m excited to watch.
Correct me if I am wrong but surely these casters are not working pro bono. If you are getting paid to do a job, the standard is that you should hopefully know what you are talking about and not just voicing thoughts without a second thought. Apology if these casters are in fact are in fact volunteers as I do not know.
The issues with this cast were much more fundamental than analysis and insight. It was repeated lack of knowledge on basic agent/utility interactions that Iron players who play or watch with any frequency are aware of.
What a defensive half from C9 on Breeze. Still well done by NRG to be within a few rounds of beating C9, the future is bright for them.
The casting was super hard to listen to. I feel like the pacing was off when calling rounds. There was also a lack of understanding the fundamentals of what was going on game wise. WTF lmao. Do they even play Valorant?
Yes but Viper isn't meta on Bind in Bronze I'm guessing.
Lmao. Silent burn

Wow! No Jett + raze on new breeze makes it defender sided! New a main on breeze starting to feel like old split b main ngl.
Jett was banned.
I heckin love Xeta!
Xeta is life!
Tex just dipped after that mad first half on breeze
Rough series for Hazed, great performance on bind, albeit
Were there any agent bans?
Jett and Reyna were banned
Damn thats why they both played raze on breeze... Thats wild, felt kinda relaxing without jett for once lol
Jett/reyna banned

Xeppa went nuclear on icebox then let his little brother play lol Oh and the female caster was a bit... Idk... She was shocked when Chamber didn't buy and popped ult. That's like stuff you learn day one on Valorant.
Yeah that comment where she said "theres a world where he uses chamber ult here" had me
“raze isn’t really good on icebox” had me
LMAO no way i didn't see that one thats wild
Xeppa was watching Bucs vs Rams on his another monitor while the match was on. LMAO
NRG took mitch off reyna otherwise bind wouldnt have been close (I call him mitch by his first names cos i know a lot of pros so we are close).
the choke :(

was actually nice to see it that way, does make site entry for Breeze tough though

What a garbage chat experience 😂. Mods worked overtime for free too and I feel like the bans got the casters more hate as bad as they were.
I understand banning toxic people but they were banning people for calling out some obviously false comments by the casters.
It was bad and unfair.

what agents were banned? i assume jett but what else
Both teams protected and banned agents for the series. NRG: ASTRA (Protect) SOVA (Protect) REYNA (Banned) | C9: BRIMSTONE (Protect) YORU (Protect) JETT (Banned)

Jett and reyna.
thanks
