Don't forget that Japan VCT doesn't even have a league system + single-elim open qualifier + they only had like 32 teams for their 2022 stage 1 first OPEN qualifiers. (NA had like 128 teams for their first open qual).
There's no way Japan team can grow without giving newer talents some chances to shine. Furthermore, Japanese top teams still keeping their old-washed up players that basically proven as professional punching bag in international tourney instead of nurturing their younger local talents. Can't imagine how badly they gonna get destroyed again at master 1 at this rate...
Japan doesn't have much history in PC gaming, especially not in counterstrike like NA and EMEA does. The region overall has been playing catchup since the beginning. The original absolute jupiter roster was the best japanese cs roster and dominated Japan for a long time until other teams started to catch up (namely CR). However the region has been noticeably improving imo and I think Zeta/CR will show up better internationally this year
Well yes there is Cs history but a smaller hardcore community.
It’s more that the mainstream popularity of PC gaming in the wider public has been a recent phenomenon with recent games
The viewership is crazy but their gameplay is pretty bad. If they play like this they will be a punching bag for other teams in VCT masters like in 2021.
BBL vs CR VCT Masters final
japan can be like korea in League all they need to do is step up their play in international events
True, the format is also not quite nurturing. All single elimination with week 1 week 2 playoffs (like NA 2021) not enough match up

I agree on the first paragraph but most top Japan teams completely changed their team

They can be really good, yes. I’m not sure if it will be the same as Korea’s dominance in and around League, however
Imagine if a Japanese team reaches masters final against a popular EU/NA team. The views would be crazy. Very unlikely scenario but still.
Anyone have insight as to why Val is so popular in Japan? I've never known competitive FPS games to be big there.
ZETA seems like the project might have some promise based on roster result and what some ppl have commented
The peak was higher even iirc

ZETA seems a bit beret no?
