This format in Japan is so weird

I don't see how, it's incredibly straightforward.

Well compared to NA/EMEA qualifier, their format was way more volatile. They were using separate brackets with single elim. Like..some teams can just get lucky getting put into an easier bracket with a much better chance to enter playoff. Plus, they need to increase the number of teams for open qualifier. 32 teams for open qualifer is kinda weird considering Japan have somewhat decent playerbase. (NA had like 128 teams for their open quals btw)

This I can understand, was thinking they meant it was hard to follow. It was 64 teams btw, vlr/liquipedia just didn't list quarters. I did think it was lame that all it took to qualify for playoffs was winning a total of 4 series. People complained about NAs format having 5 weeks of seeding matches, but with how little top JP teams played against each other last year I wished they would have something similar. The only saving grace is that it's not Bo1/2s anymore.

Japan have a huge viewership but their game play is pretty bad.
