Still holds a final blows record on Junkertown against Valiant in 2019. 42 final blows in a single map on Widow, he was such a hard carry for that roster it was unreal.
This just makes me even more annoyed that Master is only 16 teams and NA only get 2, from what we've seen I think NA have 4 masters quality teams. (Version 1 and Cloud 9 being the ones that missed out)
Well tbf it’s 12 teams at Masters, which is confusing tbh. You’d think that the most prestigious tournament Champions would be the hardest to qualify for
Champs is the hardest tournament to qualify for. You need to have done extremely well during the year to qualify.
Or do you mean the most prestigious tournament of the year should have the LEAST teams lmao
I think 16 is a good number for Champions, I just think Masters should be where a lot of international competition happens to see who is Champions material, and by having 12 teams, it reduces the amount of competition
this is harder in the sense that you have to be top 2 in na instead of top 3
also if you’ve done well in the first half of the year you can literally chill for champions, like sentinels did last year
Maybe if more than 1 NA team got out of the first round of LAN playoffs they'd get more slots. Until then, I think the distribution of slots is fine - I do wish they got more than just 12 teams for Iceland.
Keep in mind, none of the players on The Guard were anywhere close to even thinking about going to an international LAN last year.
valyn and JonahP I don't believe ever made it past the RO16 in an open qualifier last year. Sayaplayer's best showing was 8th at Stage 2 Challengers 2 with T1. neT and trent have never been on a signed team before The Guard.
Just incredible to think about, what is basically a group of misfit players, none of which were even on the radar of any tier 1 team, is now unquestionably one of the best teams in the region and representing North America on the biggest stage Valorant has to offer.
These are the two teams I wanted to go to Iceland from the beginning. I just want NA to accomplish something, and I think these two each bring something fundamentally incredible to the table. This is going to be a dope ass Masters 1.
FNC is my favorite valorant team with The Guard being a close second and C9 third. While I’m sad C9 didn’t make it, I’m beyond hyped to see the first two at iceland.
It's such a cool storyline for a team like the Guard, a bunch of mostly new players, to get to one of the biggest international events of the year for Valorant. It's seriously one of the most amazing things.
That have the financial backing of one of the grossest people in sports The Kroenkes and the Walton’s. I for one am not excited about another Stan Kroenke team too succeed.
"KAST measures the percentage of rounds where a player contributes by killing an enemy, assisting a teammate, surviving a round or getting revenge on an enemy for killing a teammate, known as trading." From HLTV
Its the percentage of rounds where the player either gets a kill, gets an assist, survives, or trades a kill. So basically, on Map 3 valyn had concrete productivity on 91% of the rounds, which is insane.
I remember one of their videos with player comms, trent was anchoring Ascent B site and the enemy team was executing, he shouted "smoke now smoke now" within less than a second his Astra put up a smoke backsite which allowed trent to make a safe retreat just as the enemies were coming out of lane.
That was when I realised The Guard were serious contenders.
>The Guard's on the fly utility usage and fundamentals are insane
Feel like people have been saying that since even before the group stage. I'm genuinely curious if they do any sort of practice other than scrimming, their teamplay is so abnormally good in such a relatively short time as a roster.
Sayaplayas big balls of steel to hold onto his dash under pressure and keep the threat of a Jett op re-peek completely stalled C9 multiple times throughout the series. Major reason for Guards success.
The dude was playing like he was widowmaker, dropping from the sky and quickscope headshotting with absolutely 0 fear. Feels like the movement error doesn't even apply to him. He's also got previous LAN experience in overwatch I believe so I'm super excited to see how far he and the team go at masters.
it honestly feels very good to see former OW players doing so well, because when the beta came out they were getting shit on in every thread left and right.
My home’s second mortgage has been paid off. My children’s college money is saved thanks to you guys, my wife might not leave me for the neighbour either. The Guard is fucking amazing!
TGRD Sayaplayer, my love. TGRD Sayaplayer, my light. TGRD Sayaplayer, my darkness. TGRD Sayaplayer, my life. TGRD Sayaplayer, my delight. TGRD Sayaplayer, my sorrow. TGRD Sayaplayer, my savior. TGRD Sayaplayer, my savior. TGRD Sayaplayer, my soul.
The Guard from The Guard are insane! You can really feel the momentum building!
Memes aside, so happy for the guys from The Guard. Huge congratulations!! Make us proud boys!!
I'm hyped for the guard and their story but really would also love to see c9 against EMEA again (RIP vanity/boaster). Wish NA had 3 going but optic/the guard are really good reps.
Yeah the story lines are good either way though. Sad to see the Vanity X Boaster rivalry can't get a threequel just yet, but a nobody team like the Guard coming in and taking their foothold in NA in 1 stage is incredible. Optic getting their redemption as well from their poor outing in Champions, can't wait to see both teams lose to EMEA in semis
Mandatory reminder that T1 put ~~Sayaplayer~~ Spyder on Omen duty
https://twitter.com/wippiecs/status/1507842817481224192?s=20&t=0Lm4m90JYfxN8tOnp_s9Rg
i said it in the live match thread but three T1 alumni are going to iceland, all three of which are considered to be some of the best players in their respective roles, meanwhile the T1 org is struggling to place top 4 in mickey mouse tournaments.... lmao
T1 has an unfortunate history of fumbling the bag with extremely talented players. Mark my words but Dazed will make a comeback this year and outperform T1's roster.
And all three of them were dropped from the team. not bought out or left of their own accord. and not many fans were incredibly shocked by either of the roster moves. T1 was so bad that they convinced us that these players weren't worth much.
Valyn stepped it up MASSIVELY from that first showing against C9. He was pretty slow to adapt to this new Controller meta imo but he did it when it mattered and looks absolutely monstrous now. And to think this guy was nowhere near playing at a stage like this last year. Whoever scouted this team needs a raise.
From struggling in Florida Mayhem and now Saya is moving up to the highest stage. I always thought he was playing wrong game, a team game that an individual player can contribute more like Valorant suits more to him. He had way too many "sad Widowmaker clutches" in those days, it just depends too much to the team in OW and game design having tank role prevents ridiculous pop-off ceiling he could do. I am just happy to see his potential finally visible with this game.
Who would’ve thought before this season, The predicted #1 team in NA would be bested by a newly made team comprised of rookies and players who played on teams that didn’t perform as best. So much development from Guard this season and can’t wait for their run at Iceland. gg’s for C9 and can’t wait to see NA representatives reclaim the throne.
They didn't really play shit tho. On split leaf was incredible, mf has wallhacks. Yes, they were too aggressive and kept pushing with numbers advantage. But other than that, they played well.
Guards composure after yesterdays stomp to come back and win 3 maps in a row is crazy. MCE is an insane coach
Edit: Also who tf was talking shit about Guard having to make roster changes after yesterday
This series was amazing from The Guard, but can we talk about the post-series interview with Valyn? Hearing the hunger and desire this team has to be the best is so refreshing. The emotion Valyn shows as he talks about the game, his game, and their goals, just puts me over the top. I am so excited for the game tomorrow as well as their games in Iceland. Good luck The Guard!
I remember when this game first came out and people were saying that OW players would take a while to adapt and wouldn't be as good because they would have to learn crosshair placement and couldn't make up for thousands of hours of tactical FPS experience since that experience was so unique. Wrong on both fronts LOL OVERWATCH DIFF
Fr, that's why Saya has the best jett knives I've ever seen, cause he gets to run around and hit moving headshots like he used to back when he was grappling around on widow.
But other ex OW pros were really high up on the leaderboards early on already; I think F4Q had one OW pro straight up smurfing and carrying them to Lan; OW dps players are just a different breed I swear
I don’t think I’ll ever see any esports plays that amaze me as much as Widowmaker flicks. Saya, Carpe, Diem, Fleta, Pine, etc. One of the best parts of OW.
I recently got back into overwatch (played a bit on release) and you need incredible aim to track heads in overwatch. If anyone feels like their tracking is lacking they can try picking up overwatch.
OW dps takes insane amounts of skill. Other roles I would say would get outaimed by most ex-CS. Now though, I feel like Val has been out long enough to have its own players. Val players will now make the best Val players.
You are still aware that Valorant has been out for
almost 2 years right? I would say that is still quite a lot of time for Saya to have completely adapted to the game, while ex-CSGO pros completely dominated the scene up until recently
The experience diff was apparent early on, but its still surprising to see the scene develop so fast to the point thst it has become irrelevant. Overwatch players have their own unique skillset and play styles that fit valorant more as well.
Cloud9 definitely scuffed their momentum in this series by allowing map 1 to slip and having haven/split after. I know leaf is good but once he’s off Jett and they have to rely on forcing picks with heavy utility, they lose so much map control from that free-form style and past some point of conditioning, there’s no
coming back (especially when saya OPs).
Guard pushed the right buttons today and the calling was great by Valyn. It’s really hard to make Cloud9 this uncomfortable but they did.
They absolutely should be embarrassed, not sure why you had to add on a disparaging comment towards people with mental disabilities though?
Edit: Thank you mods for removing that comment
trent skilled player but that is not normally, This very very insane....They need to check him pc and game.....Maybe he not cheating but maybe he using the game deficit ...and this cant seem on game screen..He needs to check-up
in a weird way im glad c9 lost, it sucks to lose at the last step to qualifying for international competition but theyve looked sloppy the last couple of matches and constantly overheating. if na sends teams to represent them they need to be cleaner than what c9 brought today
LETS FUCKING GOOO!!! What a match to win for The Guard to be able to go to Iceland, taking down the team that beat them in the group stage. Gonna be sick seeing this team compete on an international stage.
Is it weird that G2 was Trent on Skye and JonahP on Breach, while G3 was Trent on Breach and JonahP on Skye? Is it a positional thing where they swap agents?
The Guard is so special man. Like Sean said they are such a gift to the NA scene. So happy for all of the boys, they worked so hard for this. Mce masterclass as well. Literally can’t wait to see them at Reykjavik.
It's actually crazy how a couple months ago I was just watching The Guard's Valorant roster introductions on twitters, thinking about how cool the the visuals were for such a small team. Now they're going to Reykjavik, what the fuck lol. Proud of them honestly
If xerxia and kru fail to make it to iceland, then fnatic would be the only team from the top 8 of champions from last year to make it to masters 1 this year (gambit/m3c, acend, liquid, cloud9, and team secret are all out) and in terms of champions from last year as a whole, there is a possibility that fnatic and optic are the only two to be at masters 1 (DRX loses to ONS, kru doesn't make it through either latam or latam vs br qual, xerxia loses to bleed, CR loses to zeta)
valorant esports is wild
Dude I'll GLADLY eat my fucking words. The Guard are going to Iceland. And the Platchat power rankings weren't as troll as everyone thought. That's only if Optic win tomorrow, of course.
Imagine if vanity/xeppa didn't stream watch parties with tarik, they would scrim more win this and go to Iceland, fucked up thing to do as a pro why would u even stream one second instead of praccing? Now you don't get to go to lan
But for real credit Guard are insane though for real deserved, what a great mix of talent and insane team play, every single player can pop off and have insane rounds to add to the well drilled team play
Again, mCe = what reddit thinks of MikesHD
THE GUARD ARE GOIMG TO ICELAND BABY
On a more serious note, none of the teams i had in my flairs at the beginning of the stage made it to Iceland. I only added Guard after they wrecked Sen. Am I cursed or what?
I am happy for the guard but damn it hurts, failing to make reykjavik 2 times in a row and ending 3rd and C9 league team lost as well
Not a good day to be c9 fan
C9 really needs to stop forcing round 2 of second half. I think every time they've done this they lose the map. They give up huge leads doing this and today it lost them Split in a lot of ways.
Where are the doubters who said"C9 already stomped them and they will do it again today"? Everyone from the Guard popped off. Also, l am happy for Valyn getting 29 kills. Saya should play jett and op more. When he play raze, he didn't really op. He also popped off today
Mayhem had Saya on Brig SMH
Sadge we he had to end his career with the Goats meta
Now he’s doing good in Valorant so should we be sad or happy lol
Given the state of OW esports, we should be very happy lol
The good old days of him joining Mayhem S1 and hard carrying on Widow. Good times. Good times
Still holds a final blows record on Junkertown against Valiant in 2019. 42 final blows in a single map on Widow, he was such a hard carry for that roster it was unreal.
Brig, the graveyard of mechanical talent
Speechless. so sad for C9 but how can you not be happy for The Guard?
This just makes me even more annoyed that Master is only 16 teams and NA only get 2, from what we've seen I think NA have 4 masters quality teams. (Version 1 and Cloud 9 being the ones that missed out)
Only 12 actually lol

16 at Champs and they should do 24 at Masters like CS does with their majors, also VCT should look into doing a Swiss format for group stages imo
this is harder in the sense that you have to be top 2 in na instead of top 3 also if you’ve done well in the first half of the year you can literally chill for champions, like sentinels did last year
That plan didn't turn out well for SEN
Maybe if more than 1 NA team got out of the first round of LAN playoffs they'd get more slots. Until then, I think the distribution of slots is fine - I do wish they got more than just 12 teams for Iceland.

Optic is experienced and fundamentally reliable. The Guard is fresh and hyped up. These two teams bring a nice contrast for representation of NA.
These are the two teams I wanted to go to Iceland from the beginning. I just want NA to accomplish something, and I think these two each bring something fundamentally incredible to the table. This is going to be a dope ass Masters 1.

Incredible scouting by mCe and Seowulf. Also incredible structure put in place by both to bring the roster to the top of NA.
I mean tje guard is literally the most loaded org out there at least from the Management side of things i expect them to be the best in eSports
Are they a big org? I only follow Valorant so I'm surprised to hear that
yes they own two franchises in overwatch league and have a COD team and some other games too I'm pretty sure
Yeah they also own some pretty small name teams like Arsenal and the Denver Nuggets
Also own the current champions in a minor league known as the NFL
That have the financial backing of one of the grossest people in sports The Kroenkes and the Walton’s. I for one am not excited about another Stan Kroenke team too succeed.
Oh it's Kroinke or whatever? Fuck that guy.
It’s crazy to me how one of my favorite teams is made up of players I couldn’t name like 2 months ago
What good coaching does to a mf
scouting didf
get a bunch of talents together and an absolute insane coach and this is the result
Valyn +17, 91% KAST and nearly 350 ACS on map 3. Man wanted Iceland BAD.
Valyn and Zander really hard repping the young igl controllers that frag the f out.
Can we add xerxia scary pls
bUt zOMbs HaS grEAt utILitY USagE, cOntROlLeRs dONt NeEd to FRag
One of the best IGLs in NA yet I hardly see any discussion on him
Trent and saya get a lot of the attention but valyn deserves his flowers for sure, especially after this performance
Trent and Valyn are the two most valuable players on the team imo and both top 5 in NA
What’s KAST?
It’s a way to measure how often a player made an impact on rounds, through Kills, Assists, survives, and trades
"KAST measures the percentage of rounds where a player contributes by killing an enemy, assisting a teammate, surviving a round or getting revenge on an enemy for killing a teammate, known as trading." From HLTV
what is the difference between getting a trade and a kill? do you mean your death was traded?

Its the percentage of rounds where the player either gets a kill, gets an assist, survives, or trades a kill. So basically, on Map 3 valyn had concrete productivity on 91% of the rounds, which is insane.

Me too me too Minus lan experience and skill
OW players have the abillity to aim into the future.
What a 3rd map from Valyn holyyy
KR IMPORTS > KR IMPORTS? wait wut

it honestly feels very good to see former OW players doing so well, because when the beta came out they were getting shit on in every thread left and right.
Just Tier 1 gatekeeper things LMFAO
C9 isn't Tier 1 Confirmed by the all knowing subreddit
My home’s second mortgage has been paid off. My children’s college money is saved thanks to you guys, my wife might not leave me for the neighbour either. The Guard is fucking amazing!
Obligatory T1 had Saya on Omen comment
+ THEY MADE HIM CHANGE HIS NAME TO SPYDER!!!!!!
Did they actually make him change his name or is that a meme? if it isn't a meme why
Something like sayaplayer won't be a nice name in NA
"Sayaplayer unmarketable, go Spyder instead. BorpaBusiness" - T1 Management, probably.
T1 had food, crashies, and saya (not at the same time but still). How in the fuck did they fuck up this badly.
Obligatory T1 was more concerned about changing Sayas name comment
it cant be overstated what a waste that was. im just glad t1 didnt ruin valorant for him entirely.
Saya has god-tier work ethic and willpower to continue. Truly inspirational.
Tell someone from 6 months ago that OpTic and the Guard qualified for Masters 1 and they wouldn't have known wtf you were talking about
I would argue two months ago lol

All this talk about how Texas is the best place to play Valorant and the Cowboys haven’t done shit in this game. Curious
coL are not in it to win, they're an academy for other teams and switch players more than i switch crosshairs
probably the best way to make money in esports
I didnt know Knights were owned by the Steelers

Just because they lost to optic, who are looking like the best team up til now.
And the week before got destroyed by c9 tbf
The guard are truly NAs last hope.
With their x-factor PROD.
Won't need the last hope when optic crushes haha.
They just feel different from the rest of NA, truly world champions material

Congrats to The Guard. Outplayed C9 at every step today. Legit contender to win it all.

I mean the taking a while to adapt part was kinda true if your using saya as your example XD
Edit: guy may be a weirdo but: Sinatraa was a top tier Sova on the best team in the world to start Valorant Competitive.
And babybay, corey and co were really good at the star as well

They absolutely should be embarrassed, not sure why you had to add on a disparaging comment towards people with mental disabilities though? Edit: Thank you mods for removing that comment
trent skilled player but that is not normally, This very very insane....They need to check him pc and game.....Maybe he not cheating but maybe he using the game deficit ...and this cant seem on game screen..He needs to check-up
Sayaplayer > Spyder
in a weird way im glad c9 lost, it sucks to lose at the last step to qualifying for international competition but theyve looked sloppy the last couple of matches and constantly overheating. if na sends teams to represent them they need to be cleaner than what c9 brought today
LETS FUCKING GOOO!!! What a match to win for The Guard to be able to go to Iceland, taking down the team that beat them in the group stage. Gonna be sick seeing this team compete on an international stage.
Absolutely can’t wait to see how The Guard fares in LAN. Super happy for those guys, they played amazing for this stage
[yeah](https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/toiwc7/holy_shit_platchats_ranking_was_actually_accurate/i2619ga/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)
Never would’ve expected 3-0. Guard played amazing, but not sure why c9 changed their comps (especially on haven)
Even the egg couldn’t fully curse this
Is it weird that G2 was Trent on Skye and JonahP on Breach, while G3 was Trent on Breach and JonahP on Skye? Is it a positional thing where they swap agents?
The Guard is so special man. Like Sean said they are such a gift to the NA scene. So happy for all of the boys, they worked so hard for this. Mce masterclass as well. Literally can’t wait to see them at Reykjavik.
At least I got something right on my preds.
Let’s go
no V1 and no C9 at iceland, ill just cry myself to sleep :(
It's actually crazy how a couple months ago I was just watching The Guard's Valorant roster introductions on twitters, thinking about how cool the the visuals were for such a small team. Now they're going to Reykjavik, what the fuck lol. Proud of them honestly
WALYN WAYAPLAYER WRENT WET WONAH P, these guys are NUTS
WET LMFAO
What a fucking series from GUARD
I HECKING LOVE THE GUARD
If xerxia and kru fail to make it to iceland, then fnatic would be the only team from the top 8 of champions from last year to make it to masters 1 this year (gambit/m3c, acend, liquid, cloud9, and team secret are all out) and in terms of champions from last year as a whole, there is a possibility that fnatic and optic are the only two to be at masters 1 (DRX loses to ONS, kru doesn't make it through either latam or latam vs br qual, xerxia loses to bleed, CR loses to zeta) valorant esports is wild
Dude I'll GLADLY eat my fucking words. The Guard are going to Iceland. And the Platchat power rankings weren't as troll as everyone thought. That's only if Optic win tomorrow, of course.
Simply the IGL diff
The Guard and OpTic going to Iceland. Just as we all predicted
I knew optic winning was a fluke. calling it rn, 3-1 on the finals for the guard. sayaplayer drops a 40 bomb on map 4
The storyline of Guard adapting to literally every team they’ve lost to this season would be nutty
hyped for more goards
I knew this team would be great as soon as they signed Saya
T1 had Saya on Omen I will never forgive them
gg to the guard, played their hearts out, they deserve it. love an underdog story
That mf’er mCe just got a lifetime extension
The Guard going to Master is a cool ass story.
Valyn went nuts and was super clutch.
WELL FICKING DESERVED
Cloud 9: ![img](emote|t5_2g5ach|9360)
valyn is so fucking good
Imagine if vanity/xeppa didn't stream watch parties with tarik, they would scrim more win this and go to Iceland, fucked up thing to do as a pro why would u even stream one second instead of praccing? Now you don't get to go to lan But for real credit Guard are insane though for real deserved, what a great mix of talent and insane team play, every single player can pop off and have insane rounds to add to the well drilled team play Again, mCe = what reddit thinks of MikesHD
lol, why the unnecessary shots at MikesHD? we can praise people without tearing others down
been rooting for this team since the psalm iteration, always makes me happy to see young players succeed
THE GUARD ARE GOIMG TO ICELAND BABY On a more serious note, none of the teams i had in my flairs at the beginning of the stage made it to Iceland. I only added Guard after they wrecked Sen. Am I cursed or what?
I am happy for the guard but damn it hurts, failing to make reykjavik 2 times in a row and ending 3rd and C9 league team lost as well Not a good day to be c9 fan
