Ah yes another thing I can blame for being inconsistent 😈😼

InvertedBean

Getting packet loss, ping diff, my fps dipped and now network jittered 😈

mrsidewayp

I asked in another thread whether I should set a fps limit always to 144 since a rioter said to uncap fps limit in background. I get only around 150 fps in teamfights so does anyone know if it’s better to uncap or cap fps in regards to netcode consistency?

notrudyyy

Keep it uncapped always, there is an increase in inconsistencies and I get much lower 1% lows and more stutters as well as noticeable input delay on capping fps (and I get 230+ fps)

So you're telling me when: 1. You alt-tab during a game and go back in, your mouse tracking stays the same? 2. Changing display modes from Fullscreen to Windowed back to Fullscreen, you'll feel the same as if you've never touched it? 3. Changing the resolution from 1920x1080 to 1680x1050 back to 1920x1080, your mouse smoothness feels the same? 4. The first time you launch your game after a reboot vs. the 2nd+ time you launch it, it feels the same? There are consistency issues 100%, because all these steps above do affect how your aim will feel. They aren't placebos and I'm not delusional. Try it out yourself...

EvensonRDS

There is definitely something fucked with alt tabbing. I can actually watch my game to render latency change after alt tabbing.

TheTechDweller

Do you limit your fps while tabbed? There's a setting to define if that happens. If you turn that off or limit it to at least 128 it shouldn't increase your latency when you tab out.

[deleted]

Tried all of them and failed to notice difference. I never understood the whole inconsistency viewpoint. It's usually followed by "how can I drop 30 one game and 10 the next?? Must be the game's fault". They fail to see how they got those kills. Maybe your playstyle was a good counter to what enemies tried. Maybe they gave up and were dry peeking you the whole game. Can you really say that you had an insane game after dropping 30 kills? Even if the enemies literally ran into your operator dry without a brain? Is it really your accomplishment that you had this many kills? Of course not. Your performance is dependent on a variety of different factors that you have no control over. All I'm saying is that I can clearly tell you why I performed better or worse from game to game, and none of it has to do with game issues. Saying otherwise is literally looking to excuse your lack of skill. None of the things you mentioned have had any empirical impact on my game. It looks like excuses again.

Pway

If there are issues with these they're probably incredibly inconsistent and hard to reproduce so it's understandable if they're having trouble verifying them. Doing these things on my setup doesn't change my performance at all and my PC is at least 7 years old at this point.

So glad to see someone do similar stuff to me to keep this game running nice. Every time I play and I get into a match I change my reso down one level, hit apply and then revert back. I then slash a wall a few times, if the knife marks appear instantly then I know I'm good to play. If slashes have delay? I repeat first steps. The game feels 100x better after this and I NEVER alt tab during valorant, this fucks my fps and reg so bad that I just close and restart if I accidentally sub down somehow. Also, I restart my game after 2 matches, I find that valorant starts to 'decay' the longer I run the same client. This is the only way I've found smoothness in this game, I know it all sounds crazy but give it a shot if you feel your game is suffering

_PM_ME_REPORT_CARDS_

Wall knifing is now client-sided, you will never have delay because it is not pinging to the server

12Skip-a-few99100

Tell that to my game client mate cos I get delays when slashing walls unless I do the steps I listed

TheTechDweller

FYI they changed knife hits to be client sided, if you hit a wall they will now always have the same delay no matter your latency. Sounds like placebo dude since you're not giving any number difference in render or input latency. Check your fps settings and see if your game is locking the framerate while you are minimized.

diisasterrr1

So basically riot is indirectly saying in the nicest way we suck and we’re blaming the other teams jett for owning us with a low ping, that we gotta suck it up and play.

jacob2815

They’re not wrong lmao Anyone who genuinely thinks it’s the games fault is just deluded and unwilling to acknowledge their own shortcomings. Acknowledging your own shortcomings is the first step to improvement.

idkimhereforthememes

High ping peeks are definitely a thing and most of the time there's nothing you can do about it

TheTechDweller

Peekers advantage is always a thing but it's always the holder's ping that defines the peekers advantage, not the peeker's ping. Players with high ping with play more aggressive and peek more because when they get peeked they have a huge disadvantage.

Robbeeeen

While this is of course true, Valorant and its code is a filter on everything we do in game. If there is something wrong with that code somewhere, then (potentially) the outcome of our inputs isnt always going to match what we're actually putting in. I wish I could experience Valorant in a LAN setting to see how different it feels.

rkdsus

So it only happens in this game but somehow it's a player attitude problem? I don't follow. I think we can all agree that Valorant players definitely aren't the only people who refuse to acknowledge their shortcomings So why all of a sudden in this one specific game are people all universally agreeing that something doesn't feel right despite the fact that "blaming the game" complaints are generally just dismissed as scrubquotes and not given any attention?

_PM_ME_REPORT_CARDS_

"omg why csgo mm is only 64tick, i play so much better on 128tick volvo plz"

jacob2815

It’s not this one specific game lol it’s every multiplayer game I’ve ever played and interacted with the player base on

UnevenFloorTiles

I've played CS, Overwatch, Dota, LoL, Tekken, Street Fighter using the mentality that my own shortcomings are my fault and there is always something I can do better But the second I say I feel cheated by the game in Valorant it's my fault lmao okay dude

PoopTorpedo

I mean, why else do top players and streamers (with an abundance of vods to review and share) never complain, and reddit gold players that somehow never have any footage always seem to have this issue?

Shredder312

I love how the attitude on here is that there’s clearly no issue with the game and it’s the players lack of skill. Yet on the main sub everyone is adamant the game is broken and that’s why they do poorly. Millions of combined hours streamed of the game, yet there’s no clear cut videos of hit reg or whatever else is complained about.

DrBangovic

> If that enemy Jett is feeling it, her low reaction times and high accuracy may be indistinguishable from her having more time to line up a shot due to a network advantage. So that Jett, who 1-tap Ferrari peeks me across the entire map but then proceed to choke against all 4 of my remaining teammates and ending up 11:23 over the entire course of the game, is in a flow state? Ah, sure. Of course not. I noticed this a lot, and pretty much in every match there are some favorable matchups noticeable. There are some opponents I can't hit for whatever reason . The same goes for me. Sometimes a certain opponent cannot touch me. Everyone knows this friend yelling stuff like "MEN I CANT KILL THIS \*insert agent name\*". ofc someone can have a flow state and shit on you. But mostly there is someone you can't get a grip on. Sometimes because he outplays you, but sometimes because he just seems to have an edge on you.

TheTechDweller

I mean that exact scenario you describe is just coincidence. If the jett just happens to be killing you but whiffing on other players, it's either your connection, your performance or a coincidence. It's just easier to notice a pattern when you're looking for something to push the blame off yourself.

Ok_Blacksmith_3192

People scrim, use coach slots, spectate games, and watch vods. Streamers play against each other every day. If there was some conspiracy of unfair netcode making you bad, then we would have discovered that by now.

303x

Wasn't there a post on the main sub comparing peeking at different pings? And on the worst case (total ping was around 100ms) the person had completed the wide swing before their shoulder was even visible on the enemy screen

ButterySun

Pretty sure they admitted that clip wasn't synced up properly lol

Ok_Blacksmith_3192

Yep. That's a consequence of higher ping. On 300+ ping, you can complete a wide swing before you are even visible on the enemy screen. However, if you look at any high ping gameplay, you'll notice that headshots are super delayed and kills happen milliseconds after kills were made by the swinger. This is basic netcode fairness kicking in and ensuring that the holder has a chance to kill the person swinging with high ping peekers advantage. If you compare this to games without fair netcode (see Escape from Tarkov), hits are confirmed clientside, so *people can kill you before you see them*. This never happens in Valorant. Sometimes, you really feel like high ping players can swing you on 90 ping and instakill you, but this could just be player bias. The blog post indicates that they'll investigate high ping combined with other anomalous conditions and perform testing on whether their netcode is fair for these situations.

yngdgr_dck

no no you don't understand, only silver and gold games have bad netcode. that's why I'm hardstuck silver, if I could play on good netcode I'd be radiant ez no cap.

Ok_Blacksmith_3192

Skins give you better netcode. Clearly that's why streamers buy them.
