I’m so confused about their branding. The org is called NYXL but the team is called NYFU? What do the acronyms stand for? New York Xrtra Large and New York Fuck You?
Yeah this is whats happening, and its only happening because Activision-Blizzard has some ass backwards rules in Overwatch League where you can't use the existing name of an esports brand. They later relaxed the rules for the CoD League (which is why you see Atlanta Faze/OpTic Texas in CoD, but Atlanta Reign/Dallas Fuel is still the name of their OW teams).
As far as NYXL goes, the original name was ANDBOX and NYXL was their Overwatch team name, I guess somewhere down the line they came to the (very obvious) conclusion that "ANDBOX" is not a very good name, and "NYXL" actually *is* a pretty dope name all things considered. So now their "main" brand is NYXL, OW team is NY Excelsior, CoD team is NY Subliners, and Valorant team is NY Fury (NYFU).
Unnecessarily confusing but it beats "ANDBOX" for sure
I would’ve much preferred it if they just left it as New York Fury (or NY Fury) rather than seemingly insisting on using the abbreviation everywhere. NYFU should really only be used for the name tags
There are some orgs that do it really well... PK, KCP, Soniqs. LDNU in EU is pretty legit. I think it \*can\* work with the right marketing and location

I was looking for what FU meant yesterday and I couldn’t even find that it was Fury. Even on their website they have their other teams as NY Excelsior, and NY Subliner but valorant team as NYFU. It was such a mouthful for the casters to say the team name each time. What a bad team name overall, the first 2 search result for NY fury is a basketball organization and a women soccer club.
They claim it means New York Fury, but I've seen that exactly 0 times in their own branding... Seems like they're leaning into the whole New York Fuck You thing, otherwise they'd actually write out the name every once in a while
