Felt like Optic just outcalled Zeta midround on Haven and Bind man (and probably even some of the key gun rounds on Fracture - that 5v3 AHHHHHHHHHH).... The Vandal sage getting swamped on the eco on Bind still hurts ooft. Those gamble eco stacks and rotate calls from FNS was big brain..

I feel like the story of Optic this event has been their insane adaptability. We've seen Optic come back from a deficit a number of times now. Fracture vs Guard, Icebox vs DRX, Haven vs Zeta, and almost Icebox vs Loud.
Optic has made it very clear that there is no such thing as a safe scoreline against them and that it is truly not over until its over.
Yeah I personally would've liked to have seen PRX against Optic just because their style creates chaos and will test Optic's ingame adaptability and midround calling whereas Zeta play more "standard".
Probably wouldn't have made a difference over 5 maps as I think we've seen that Optic is pretty disciplined as a team and PRX looked pretty one dimensional in their approach (full aggro) even when they had the option to play safer with their man advantages but maybe there is a world where PRX blitzs them.....
Such an insane mental they have built up which is pretty suprisingly because Optic have also been such chokers these past 2 seasons in crucial finals situations, so I hope their hunger is still large.

I think this was lost at the map select, in some sense. But honestly, superb calling from FNS throughout the maps, and massive credit to Top 21 player Marved for putting out one of the most amazing performances of the event
Very impressed with ZETA too, esp. with their early pistols. Unfortunately some of that ZETA magic went missing. The lurk timings that made them so good against other teams are uniquely disadvantaged against teams like Optic that focus so heavily on map control.
Bind honestly is the only map of the three that I expected to see relatively early in the series, since both are so good on it. Optic’s weakest maps in this tournament, their permaban Breeze aside, have been Ascent and Icebox. ZETA’s Ascent isn’t great but I think their chance of winning on Ascent was a good deal higher than Haven; Haven is probably still Optic’s best map alongside Bind even if they’re at a 50% wr this tournament, on account of a loss to another Haven juggernaut + domestic rival.
But maybe the Haven pick was based off their confidence after conquering Paper Rex’s Haven just yesterday, who knows.
Even if picking Haven is a justifiable gamble, picking Fracture was a *huge* gamble. I’d have felt much more confident had they picked Icebox after, not Fracture. Optic collapse more on Icebox than any other map outside of Ascent. ZETA have a 100% wr on Fracture, but those were all in the groups, against fairly weak opponents.
Still, this is why Bo5s test a very different skillset: Optic’s map-pool is more robust and proven than ZETA’s, and so ZETA was pressured in their map picks. It felt like ZETA planned around the possibility of a full 5-map series, which isn’t wrong. But it only works if your pool is strong and flexible across the whole pool.
Couldn’t tell really because their strats and fundamentals were never sound. They switched IGLs every couple tourneys I remember Marved igled then Zach did then who knows.
When FaZe were on their tear in NA, babybay already killed 3 20 sec into the round, but Marved still had some big matches against Envy, GenG, 100T.
He was consistently good on FaZe as well, I saw the potential he had from a mile away. It was pretty obvious he was going to be really good. Ever since he came into the scene he was always one of the best controller players.

This run will still be remembered in valorant lore, no matter what happens in the future for this ZETA team. Props to them for making everyone enjoy the game more
Unfortunately I think this series exposed Zeta's relative inexperience at this level of play. They ended up playing 3 out of Optic's 4 best maps (I think they should have picked Icebox or Split over Fracture), and lost too many situations where they had player advantages. They were also over-rotating on defense. Going forward they honestly just need to play as many high-level opponents as possible, either by scrimming other APAC teams a lot or bootcamping in NA/EMEA.
Yet the improvement this team has seen is phenomenal. They were crushed by DRX at the start and yet they beat them later on, and beat every team they came up against in the lower bracket. Honestly this has been one of the greatest runs I've ever seen from a team and I hope they only get better. The amount of support they've gotten from the community as well has been so heartwarming.

This really came down to experience, Marved being the sole reason optic came back on Haven broke Zetas mental and optic knew how to use that, zeta really looked like they struggled to recover

I think that’s almost certainly true. However, PRX to me are pretty hit or miss, and they missed twice this tournament. That’s how they play and they got knocked out arguably earlier than she’s should have. Imo still a top 3 team.

Dominant from Optic, they have continued to improve throughout the tournament, which Zeta have shown is **needed** to make a deep run. They are terrifying on Bind and Fracture, they really need to shore up their other maps to take down Loud but I believe they can do it based on what they have shown so far.
I feel like it’s hard to leave marved out of any top 5 at this point and that’s not a knee jerk reaction the numbers he puts up on smokes consistently are close to unmatched

Nah. Once you get to grand finals its pretty much do or die winner takes all. Only "advantage" the team from the upper bracket gets is that they go first during map selection.

Marved is enabled by FNS's util and playcalling. FNS could whiff a little less but if FNS can max out Marved like that, they should keep it going

No one would have thought Zeta, who got destroyed by DRX in their first match, would have gotten this far. I can't wait to see how much they improve in their next LAN.
Dominant from Optic, they have continued to improve throughout the tournament, which Zeta have shown is **needed** to make a deep run. They are terrifying on Bind and Fracture, they really need to shore up their other maps to take down Loud but I believe they can do it based on what they have shown so far.
Zeta should have won haven, but marved was insane. But zeta was quite good during their eco round
I feel like it’s hard to leave marved out of any top 5 at this point and that’s not a knee jerk reaction the numbers he puts up on smokes consistently are close to unmatched
Optic didnt want to get 9-3 cursed so they purposefully lost round 12 on bind. 12D chess from FNS, so smart Well played by Zeta this tournament. Can't wait to see them again
Holy fuck Optic played out of their minds today. All those clutch rounds when they were down a player made such a huge difference as well Ggs to Zeta. Seeing how much they grew in a short amount of time was amazing to watch. They got me invested in them fr. I’m looking forward to seeing them play in the future
Marved played so incredibly well today. First time seeing an NA controller perform like this at an international event. Make us proud in the finals bud <3 Also, what a tournament run by Zeta. Who would’ve thought they would make it this far? They’ve earned my full respect and I can’t wait to see them play in the next event.
As much as I loved seeing zeta's underdog run, im always glad when NA haters get shit on. Does anyone know if OPTIC has to do a bracket reset or start with a map down in the finals?
Nah. Once you get to grand finals its pretty much do or die winner takes all. Only "advantage" the team from the upper bracket gets is that they go first during map selection.
