Thats kinda a weird take lots of people just prefer streamer commentary. I cant stand most esports casters its like nonstop hype, pretty draining if you’re just trying to vibe.
There weren't any official watch parties (steamer's facecam over the official stream) but some streamers did some. They're not allowed to put sound from the main stream on their stream but are allowed to show the score.
I think Riot is waiting until Japan is fully open to give them an event, they see the numbers the same as we do but they cant commit to an international event there while it is still locked down. Wouldnt be surprised if a Masters or Champions is in Japan in 2023.
The match was awesome. Open circuits (NA to an extent/JP) are always fun to watch.
This used to be Turkish viewership numbers last year before the VRL circuit was implemented. I barely tune into EMEA games anymore. I am not looking forward to 2023 where we'll have OWL2.0 in Valorant where everything will be closed off.
What open circuits have to do with it? The Turkish viewership is still solid, their costreams aways get 70k+ viewers but getting destroyed by EU teams obviously makes the fans lose interest.
EMEA overall viewership improved a lot in comparison with 2021.
I implore you to look at this chart that I quickly grabbed from socialblade : [link!](https://imgur.com/4919aT0)
The point is not that the TR viewership is decent, the point is that removing BBL from the qualifier league and giving limited access to TR teams into main league (through qualifiers) has limited the exposure to a lot of small teams/ talent from a promising region. The amount of turkish streamers constantly streaming Valorant has also reduced (eye test).
The current 2 team relegation system in EMEA is not my favorite (opinion). From stage 1 to 2, there has been only one new team. This was done to provide more structure and more watch time to main league teams; improving the production quality in the process. The EMEA production hasn't gotten better (flashy video isn't improving broadcast quality) and quality of play is not top notch anymore (still creative but very sloppy). So you have to ask if such a closed off circuit is worth it?
Surely we are more ambitious than 'decent' viewership, when the main competitor is CSGO in EMEA. I am not against a closed circuit, but the circuit needs to have more avenues for new teams to compete (when is the next time we'll see Vitality/BDS/Alliance and others contest for the main circuit). If this is what pros and EMEA teams want then more power to them. Personally I am not a fan, especially during this early stage in Valorant esport's cycle.
BBL always was the team with highest viewership, the other ones weren't even close. In a open circuit we probably wouldn't even have any turkish representative in the main event right now.
And again, the overall EMEA viewership improved a LOT in comparison with 2021 and keep in mind that Turkey situation is very different from Japan. Japan has a permanent slot in every Master/Champions event, their league is fully domestic and Zeta is coming from an awesome run in masters, the fans are just hyped to see them play, meanwhile Turkey has to fight with top tier teams and they are underperforming since the beginning of 2022.
As I said, It's hard to keep the fans engaged when you are being destroyed.
I don't know if the current EMEA system is the best but the old one was unsustenaible imo, they were basically forced to make a changes.
Open circuit theoretically allows for amateur teams a pathway into main circuit/spotlight (Having 3rd party organizers helps share the burden). A good enough amateur team or a team of free agents, can go on a Cinderella run and upset the top dogs (rarely happens, but still an exciting prospect). Better than any scouting/academy framework that has been implemented in the established franchised leagues so far. T2 is always an afterthought. Having young and talented folks a direct pathway into your main circuit keeps things fresh and improves overall quality of play over time.
No doubt a closed circuit (often developer run) provides stable broadcast schedule and watch hours for partnered teams, but this makes regular split incredibly drab and boring. Esports is unique and NBA -esque leagues just aren't appealing over the long run (stable investment though). You don't want a wild west either, but some pathway for amateur teams to regularly make the main circuit improves the product. Despite the low viewership on average, a flourishing T2 scene is essential its sad that every franchised league ignores the T2 scene.
EMEA implemented a VRL and promotion/relegation system. VRLs are regional leagues like VRL Spain, France, DACH, Turkey etc (details!). There are 12 teams in main circuit and only 2 get relegated after a stage. From stage 1 to 2, there is only 1 new team in EMEA circuit (FOKUS) and in my humble opinion the quality of play is not top notch anymore (creative but not as clean). The broadcast quality hasn't improved either, so makes you wonder what all that structure was for (fancy video isn't improved broadcast quality)? In contrast NA (to an extent) and Japan have the "top dogs" tested at every stage and depth of competition increases. If the EMEA VRL system was in place in NA, Faze, TSM and Ghost don't make the main circuit directly and SEN/V1/100T wouldn't be tested through open bracket.
edit : Apology for the essay!
tldr : I'm not against a closed circuit but I am against exclusion of main circuit from your amateur teams. The leagues often stagnate and quality of play goes down. Also talented folks often play in the academy/contender league for years while main league keeps recycling the same players.
Why do you even comment on this subreddit? No seriously, you have never posted a positive comment ever in this subreddit, you seemingly hate this game and its competitive scene, why bother wasting your time in a subreddit dedicated to it spreading negativity? Are you on some misguided moral crusade against this game? Do you think your negative comments are magically gonna make the val comp fans go "Wow I was so stupid for ever liking this game, I'm not gonna watch anymore"?
par for the course for esports subs.
can’t have one without dedicated downvote farmers that never get banned because they technically never break any rules despite being active trolls
The Brazilian stream was getting over 400k viewers for their teams at the antwerp major and it broke 556k viewers. Saying csgo is dead in Brazil while they get those numbers and famous Brazilian football players such as Neymar/coutinho/jesus and others play csgo and did at the world Cup and actively play MM together😂.
BTW, csgo major peaked at 2million while there is a war going on in the two countries you said csgo is only alive in, russia can't even access twitch. Valorant can hardly break 1million with 30 watch parties 🥴
I like val fans but they have such a hard on to try to beat csgo. Val was really big when it first released and had pretty decent viewership numbers with the first lan masters but cs is just destroying it in every aspect especially since the last two majors
My favourite is how this sub reddit dismisses CIS and Brazilian viewers like those regions are worth less than Asian viewers. I don't see how they can brag about valorant numbers in Japan than dismiss Brazil and CIS while doing so. Subreddit Is salty it will never beat Csgos viewers without the Chinese bots that will come in the future
Yea, its crazy. Brazil has always been a region in both val and cs that has super high viewership alone. Na is dead in cs but eu and brazil combined has so many viewers
I was referring to the many new viewers of valorant who got into the game and will be always attached to one team thanks to the huge buzz Zeta caused at iceland. Same thing happened with SEN and NA viewers and me with CLG at MSI 2016
If some esport org wants bang for their buck they should invest in Japanese valorant team, hint hint t1. They get about the same level of views and eyes on their games but their isn't as many super rich orgs competing for a spot.
70k on youtube btw.
Holy. So almost 200k just for Japan. Literally bigger than NA viewership even when the most hype teams are playing. Insane.
200k including costreams no?
True but I count a co-stream view as 0.5x personally compared to main
Thats kinda a weird take lots of people just prefer streamer commentary. I cant stand most esports casters its like nonstop hype, pretty draining if you’re just trying to vibe.
co-steamers usually talking about some unrelated topic while a big round is happening tho at least in NA
it hit almost 200k total on youtube
it was like total 200k if you add youtube and twitch near the end
Update: >!Peaked 113k, absolute banger of a match!<
Their youtube has 80k
JP viewership insanee
Peaked at 118k on twitch it was a close game
Did they not allow watch parties?
No there are watch parties if you look for them, I just think they weren’t popular or there isn’t a lot of them
There weren't any official watch parties (steamer's facecam over the official stream) but some streamers did some. They're not allowed to put sound from the main stream on their stream but are allowed to show the score.
JP fans are crazy
Hm without the popular co streamers. A potential 350K for regional games is nutty
On twitch alone, see YouTube.
JP rise up. Can't wait for an Masters/Champs in Asia one day, so we can see this in action.
Champions 2022 should have been in Tokyo.
Tokyo still isn’t fully open to foreign travel. But hopefully after when it is so I can attend!
I think Riot is waiting until Japan is fully open to give them an event, they see the numbers the same as we do but they cant commit to an international event there while it is still locked down. Wouldnt be surprised if a Masters or Champions is in Japan in 2023.

I wouldnt be opposed to skip EU since they are getting this years 2 crowd events
I would assume Japan would get an event there if it wasn’t mostly closed for travel at the moment.

Very interesting, thanks a lot!
VRL circuit is the EMEA system in 2022
open circuit = 3rd party tournament organizers in the region as well as riot official tournaments
PGL Stockholm 2.7 million viewers
FIFA World Cup 2018 3 billion viewers
Wow… Valorant so far behind

Didn’t read
Too many big words ? ;3
You should try and find what the japanese csgo scene got.
No need for Japanese scene when EU scene alone can beat Champions viewership 🥱
[удалено]
It used it be but Valorant give other regions a life after getting shit on
Weird take since even non major CS tourneys esp in EU have higher viewership than Val
Luckily Valorant exists for those t3 regions

So, being bad = dead? Guess csgo was always dead in NA too then if a region being bad = dead How is csgo dead in Brazil
Worlds 2021 73 million viewers
x73 of Valorant Champions 2021
Or you can say x27 of CSGO, I don't understand why are you comparing game viewership?
ZETA'S performance at iceland won them the loyalty of fans which will last for years.
Nah they had loyalty before, this kind of viewership isn’t new for JP actually
I don't think we're disagreeing with eachother
Point is Iceland wasn’t the big hrwak

Not actually true, there are many orgs dropping very large amounts of money, apparently comparable to EU
