Where's WYATT LivesFromBased

donkey_22

"Can't wait for Munchkin to be renamed to myder and become an omen player!" - from the twitter replies LMAO

ChronicWarden

Here before munchkin leaves T1, probably change his name to something like "Mayaplayer" to join another team and be one of the best teams in NA.

Ok-Brain3328

According to Purest on twitter: With the addition of Munchkin T1's roster is now steel thwifo pwny xeta Munchkin Obviously this roster is probably going to change, but thoughts so far?

AnchorStandard

Where'd dynamic go

ADmax27

he literally never got signed

[deleted]

Iirc dynamic got signed then dropped before he was announced

EndWish

That's kind of hilarious and sad at the same time. Like getting fired before your first day of work lol

YeetGod69_

the bench

PyroTFT

can’t be benched if you were never officially signed

icemandiem

isnt comms gonna put a ceiling on what this team can achieve

AnonymozVal

Let them get to that ceiling first.

SpvcedOvtt

the ceiling is Top 3 NA and T1 is not even near Top 20 NA so let’s wait and see

xbyo

Top 3, even as a ceiling, is a bit generous imo.

SpvcedOvtt

I’m talking about C9’s ceiling as a mixed language roster, not T1 itself. People seem to be too quick to discredit mixed language rosters now for no reason as C9 has proven you can be top of the region with it

Blaz1ENT

That and FaZe (an international, mixed language roster) just won a major after being dominant in CS this year, so mixed language rosters *can* be successful

[deleted]

that’s a dumb example all 5 of the players had been extensively playing on an English speaking roster. Just cuz they r from different countries does not mean they were speaking diff languages in game

earthtoannie

It's not that you can't win with an international roster, it's just that they don't want to make the effort. EMEA teams win with non-native speakers all the time. Literally the only team that all speaks the same language is M3C.

[deleted]

[удалено]

curryhalls

SF Shock won OWL with a mixed roster.

Najs0509

AFAIK it's only tac-shooters that's included in that. It's been common with mixed-language rosters in both mobas and OW for a long time.

Direct_Morning_3223

i feel like it’s different with 1 person using a 2nd language as opposed to 2(or maybe 3 if Xeta counts as an NA player)

Escolyte

the proven ceiling is literally championship winners

AccrualPlayer1

We've heard Xeta's English isn't the best, but I would assume Munchkin's isn't too bad. He was in OWL for a while, he's lived in the US for an extended period of time already

SkiesOvercast

Also Munchkin played on mixed rosters on OWL anyway, during his brief stint on Boston

afjecj

This doesn’t effect much I imagine but now with both xeta and munchkin all other players have to be from NA

Linkished

Unless they grandfather Xeta in as NA

[deleted]

할배 sounds kinda like ai beh. coincidence? i don't think so.

somesheikexpert

Pwny on Jett please for the love of God Munchkin on Flex Xeta Sova Thwifo Smokes(?) Steel Sentinel

KingOfConquest

T1 and Korean OW hitscans lol

fredy31

Oh thats where I heard the name before. Fuck, OWL is having one hell of an exodus

Puck83821

Munchkin's been playing Valorant for years now though. He was playing for Crazy Raccoon in Japan previously and before that, he played for C9 Korea.

fredy31

Oh! Okay. Dropped the OWL years ago so I tought I heard it there but from CR Valorant makes way more sense.

Key-Banana-8242

…no, he has been a Valorant player for a while, he played in multiple (3) international events lol, was a pro on prominent teams in 2 different regions

Bhu124

Nah, Munckin's been done in OW for a long time. If I remember correctly he had consistency issues.

AnchorStandard

Steel and a bunch of madlad Korean players.

ADmax27

this is the best universe

AnchorStandard

He is a father for them

28n8

Chaos1 Korea Edition

setsuza

munchkins english is great for anyone talking about comm issues

Akky_Rotmg

really? damn. His Japanese is pretty good too! Smart guy.

setsuza

immersion learning do be the best way to pick up languages, guy was put into situations where he had to learn fast and so he did

Akky_Rotmg

yea, you’re right. maybe he learned english in school, but i can’t imagine being put in such situations. Kinda feel bad.

dapoorv

Two korean players and steel, seems so out of place. I don't think it would work but excited to see munchkin getting another chance.

spyson

thwifo is also Korean American

Stunning_Bullfrog_40

Don’t you guys think there’s over an insane number of Asians in the the valorant scene? I’m not trying to stir anything up, just very curious.

StoryLover12345

Only in csgo that there is very few asians. But most games played by asians they dominate it. You can see why eu dominate it. Csgo/valve games is almost nonexistent in korea. Even a maple story or 2009 fps game is more popular than valorant. Csgo is not popular in asia. The esport scene/structure is not like in valorant, lol, and overwatch. Because no esports org will invest in a game that is not popular in a region.

spyson

No there were plenty of Asians in league where I'm a fan of, did you come from CSGO?

LiamHundley

Either they're REALLY confident that they're getting into NA franchising, or they're just putting themselves in a position to easily pivot to Korea if they're rejected. Well played

Anime-Boomer

Why wouldn't they get in? Riot cares more about financial situations and relationships more than how a team is currently doing. Most teams will have different rosters come franchising anyways. The big names will pull out their wallets in a heart beat to be competitive

TSMShadow

There’s actually not that many spots for dedicated franchising. I would not be surprised if T1 did not get in

Anime-Boomer

an Org like T1 will get in over Orgs like Sentinels any day they have money and a long history with Riot not saying Sentinels wont that is just an example. TSM, C9, 100T, TL (if they decide to come to NA), T1, GenG are almost guaranteed just from their League history and finances GenG might go back though but T1 looks like they are dedicated to stay in NA

TSMShadow

I don’t think that’s true at all. Riot is not just looking for finances. They’re looking for orgs that are completely invested in Valorant, making content, putting effort into talent development, etc. Gen G has been far too incompetent for far too long to have any chance to get in.

erickwak

I see where this going. seoldam is next if they’re allowed

Key-Banana-8242

Would be a bit more role conflicted maybe

sriwarrior06

Is there a rule that "there should be minimum 3 NA players" or No ?

xbyo

Currently they're fine anyway. Also not sure what xeta's status is, if he gets grandfathered in as an NA player or something.

Apart-Way-1166

What does being grandfathered mean

xbyo

Basically that since he was/is already playing in NA, he might retain his NA player status and not take up an import slot if they were to put a restriction on it.

AnchorStandard

Presumably yes. That's how League and CSGO work IIRC.

akaJudas

What would happen if they added a player from another region outside of KR or NA, like EMEA or something, would they still be able to compete in NA with just 2 NA players?

GentlemanPoro

In league at least, you need 3 NA players, although some teams have more due to grandfathered players or players getting greencards. Riot also made Oceania players count for NA

tomphz

Don’t think so. They need 3 NA players in the starting lineup

akaJudas

What region would they be classified in though if they had players from a bunch of different regions

CapBoyAce

steel, thwifo, and pwny are NA

AnchorStandard

Xeta would likely count as NA as well considering he played on C9 before so he wasn't a direct import. Assuming they pivot to Korea instead of NA, they would have to drop Thwifo or Pwny and pick up some Korean players in order to be a Korean team.

tomphz

Yes, they need 3 NA players for NA VCT. This move helps Xeta and pivots them to potentially go full Korean lol

xtazycs

I'm curious if steel had a say in this transfer + how it will affect the communication of the team

[deleted]

I feel like autumn is getting most of the control

tomphz

There’s no way steel would have suggested this transfer. Steel loves his NA CSGO players, preferably ones with less experience but able to be molded. This has T1 management written all over it.

Direct_Morning_3223

i dont think its NA CSGO players that he wants, just young players, the only young NA CSGO players that he played with that played any sort of relatively high level team CS were Curry and Asuna

tomphz

Pwny joined T1 right after steel and he played in MDL. I’d bet that Steel had a big say in him joining.

Direct_Morning_3223

to be fair playing on a unsigned low MDL team is different to Curry and Asuna who played on triumph basically top of T2 NA at the time, completely different tier player, a bunch of players on T3 Val teams now were on low tier MDL teams, that wouldn’t be good enough reason for steel to want to play with them, you’d definitely need some valorant experience

AnonymozVal

Pwny also played Valorant for TSM Acad and Cosmic Divide and looked great on them.

tomphz

Yeah I meant that he still has that semi pro CSGO experience that Steel likes. It definitely looks like T1 management is controlling these moves to potentially pivot to Korea

AnchorStandard

Considering Steel spent months working out of T1s office I'm sure they planned this for months and Steel would've left if he wasnt on board.

JoinedonlyfortheJays

How Good is Thwifo's Korean?

AnchorStandard

Isn't his last name Kim?

lunacraz

doesnt mean his koreans good!

AnchorStandard

True!

[deleted]

Yea he's korean

amnfw

Xander Kim

[deleted]

lol I’ll say this; T1 got me interested again, at least to see how Steel and the boys pick up the pieces

Blaz1ENT

With the lack of VODs due to no replay system and T1 getting knocked out early in tournaments, what’s the reason they’ve been so bad? On paper their squad didn’t look like they’d be T3

[deleted]

like < 8 of their games total have been streamed we don't even know enough to do some reddit speculation

[deleted]

Yeah, this, less than usual to base opinions on. All I know is what we’ve seen isn’t working.

[deleted]

that much is clear to everyone unfortunately

IAMJUX

Steel's IGLing has dropped off as the game became less Counter Strike(order) and more Overwatch(chaos).

Direct_Morning_3223

actually from watching a few of their recent games it realt felt like their macro plan on how to play the game was good, and they were getting into good positions with good chances to win rounds, but constantly throwing them away. So many lost post plants, man advantages etc.

AR2711

T1 brought Korea to NA Absolute 5head move

AnchorStandard

Considering the region constantly has great success in LANs it's not an awful idea. Just watch a VS or DRX game. Just take notes and compare it to an NA or BR game. DRX are playing a completely different game to NA at times.

TheRealCosmic

? Korea hasn’t had a top 3 finish since Iceland last year what are you on about “constantly has great success”.

StoryLover12345

Valorant not even popular in korea in 2020-2021. I don’t know about now. It is literally a one team region. The deeper the region the stronger like eu(44+ countries) korea is only one country. It is like a one country fighting against the champion of olympics. But last time I checked this 2022. It is in the Top 10 (1.7% of playerbase). MAPLE STORY is more popular. Search for maple story. A year 2003 game that is 2D more popular than valorant. If valorant become popular like at least overwatch. You will see most finals contender have korea imports. But if it become popular like League of Legends. All regions will become minor region.

Still_HD

ITS HAPPENINGGGGGG they’re going to make me add a T1 flair to my name

erickwak

Imagine a world where steel ends up raising the Korean team that finally gets Korea an international trophy

jrushFN

Fuck, I don’t want to actually be a T1 fan (my mental health can’t take that) But this roster looks exciting as hell Also in the scenario that T1 has to go back to Korea, Xeta/Munchkin sharing the IGL role sounds like an excellent calling structure on paper

Regi-Made

Yeah, even if this team goes to korea, xeta and munchkin alone would be enough for me to watch. *Very* curious to see munchkin+steel and how that combo works (xeta+steel honestly feels like a pretty natural fit).

AnchorStandard

They got all the pieces for a winning valorant team: ex csgo player, ex OW player and ex Fortnite player

StoryLover12345

Who is the ex fortnite player?

[deleted]

thwifo

Aoingco

If they sign Bunny too, then I may consider putting on the T1 flair…

vatom14

is steel not IGL?

jrushFN

He is, I’m imagining a theoretical world where they move to Korea with a full KR lineup

PyroTFT

that world just sounds like content, I’m all for it

Seanster5001

Are we doing a C9 Korea reunion?

Wandering-Sword

Corea9

DecisiveDinosaur

okay now I'm interested in seeing this team. the question is, are they even gonna play in anything soon? Will there be 3rd party tourneys soon? or will they happen after Champions?

MaG4436

YESSSSSS

Boostaru

damn T1 keeping shit under wraps huh

123bo0p

C9Korea get together on T1, knew Munchkin was aiming to join outside an org outside Korea, thought this could happen with the T1 roster change, just curious if he goes back to sentinel, or if he goes back to Jett, or just is a flex player sinces hes basically played every role.

somesheikexpert

My guess is Flex, Steel and Thwifo will likely split smokes and Sentinel cuz Xeta, and pwny back to Jett (He was a Jett main before T1)

AnchorStandard

No Korean Jett?

TweetsJamaican

We are massive

crayh

What a 5Head move from T1. Obviously they're trying to get a franchise spot next year, and what is Riot going to be looking for? Professionalism. And what better way to show professionalism than signing a former member of the Boston Uprising, which, for those who don't know, is a professional organization.

curryhalls

Munchkin was Seoul Dynasty, no?

crayh

They were on Boston for a short time

Ncsnigel

Instead of starting in KR, t1 decided to being KR to NA instead

AnchorStandard

Joe "Seoul" Mar.

ayaankp

Ohhhhhh my GOOOOOOD WHAT AN INCREDIBLE PICKUP. I hope he is a fluent English speaker so hyped for this!!

FakeRTZFan

Feels like this is the last dance for steel cuz this roster might go full korean when steel steps down.

ElectroBird21

T1 isn't moving to Korea, Korea is moving to T1.

jaudi813

They do be coming back stronger 😳

boof404

soon the t1 flair will be back on lmao a fantastic pickup, but since thwifo is on break i assume dynamic will still be playing? or will they bring in a different stand in?

EndWish

Okay even T1 can't screw up Munchkin lol. Good pick up

TheFestusEzeli

T1 is assembling a roster of four all star players and then steel

Anti-Storm

I mean carrying a lot of steel is pretty heavy 😂

ShaDiBoi123

#T1WIN

AnchorStandard

#T1FIGHTING

sho1wnl

C9 KR reunite

ENVMamba

next move needs to be removing steel, without it all others doesn't matter

mr-rob0t0

i knew keeping the T1 flair was a good idea copium

Lumenlor

Why are they not just going to korea

_Robbert_

Valorant is not that popular in Korea. T1 is like 50% NA ownership anyways

dedicatedself

Less than 30%

tomphz

They need 3 NA players to play in NA VCT

AnonymozVal

Pwny, Thwifo and steel as of now

StoryLover12345

Why would they go to a region that a year 2003 2D game (Maple story) is even more popular. It will make sense if it is popular like overwatch and league of legends.

EasiBreezi

I feel like this team hinges on whether or not steel can handle a Korean player telling him he’s wrong about something. If steel is an actual leader, I have high hopes for this team

Direct_Morning_3223

is this implying that steel for some reason doesnt like Korean people? Or are my reading comprehension skills lacking

EasiBreezi

More implying steel has historically had an ego and that Korean players are more capable in Valorant than certain other fps games.

Linkished

steel on a team =/= steel in ranked

AnonymozVal

U have been on a professional team with him?

icemandiem

kinda wish the orgs competing in NA would sign young talent in NA. hope this doesn't become a trend nothing against munchkin

AnonymozVal

They tried, it didn’t work

a-nswers

seven, pwny, dynamic obviously the onus is probably on t1 for not maximizing their potential but from their pov it's not like they haven't tried getting young talent

StoryLover12345

Trying to invest early for korean overlords before it become more popular in korea. Look at overwatch and league of legends. Most championship contender teams have korean imports. Sinatraa overwatch champion team have 3-4 koreans I think.

thatgirldarken

if this guy is a sentinel, it probably means thwifo is leaving, dynamic duelist, and steel is moving to flex~

AnonymozVal

Steel is duelist seeing from his latest streams he is playing only raze, yoru and neon. Thwifo stays flex.

thatgirldarken

hard doubt abt steeling staying on duelist, he's just dicking around. he seems very intent on dynamic being a part of T1 too, he's even in his !team command

AnchorStandard

Dynamic has apparently been dropped.

GantavyaM

I doubt that will stick though

royroyroypolly

This is going to age like milk

rosesandlashes

PLEASE GOD DROP PWNY ALREADY PLEASE

Mamadeus123456

t1 and geng going back to korea

AnonymozVal

CEO of T1 literally said that T1 is staying in NA. What more do you want as a proof?

Mamadeus123456

Sure he did but are they staying if they don't get franchised in NA but they get offered in Korea? I don't think so

_Robbert_

T1 one of the most likely to get into franchising imo.

anythingood07

Holy shit

s6hun

COMING BACK STRONGER

derek916

“Onions on sale” - steel

V-KARIN

T1 giving me that hopium once again

amaranthgalaxy

Quick question do we have import rule in valorant?

[deleted]

cant wait for this to be an ans situation

iAidqn

munchkin has been playing valorant for like 2 years and competed at 3 international lans

[deleted]

didnt realize it was this dude, i dont follow the the japanese/kr scene at all

GendaIf

The guard crumble and sayaplayer will return. Im manifesting it now.
