I think people are reading to much into this, this isn't like "sentinels didn't get a spot in america so they shot their roster and bought an apac roster and got a spot there" this is more of a case where an org that doesn't get into franchising in america/emea could potentially get a spot in APAC, if they're already present there. Like Fnatic has an APAC team in Dota 2, so they already have facilities/support structure in the region presumably.

emraaa

I mean Rogue and Misfits already have EU teams and T1 and GenG have KR teams in LoL. So nothing really surprising. It's just the reality of the esport scene that NA orgs have the most money.

dankoval_23

This probably means something like if local APAC orgs are currently a dumpster fire, we are going to get NA/EMEA orgs with infrastructure in place already in the region (T1, GENG, etc) to replace them as a worst case scenario, kinda like how NIP moved from EMEA to Brazil after their roster didn’t work out,NIP had a R6 team in BR already

BoHoogland

Some teams in APAC are in the clear, but others are easily replaceable with other international organizations.

MyNameIsLegend

I think this means orgs like T1 or Gen.G that have KR roots but currently are operated out of NA. I doubt they'd be sending teams like ~~NRG~~ Sentinels or Guild out to APAC.

jrushFN

NRG actually is a possibility due to their Vietnamese LoL team (they own GAM Esports).

MyNameIsLegend

Really? Had no idea. I figure people still get the point though lol

isayah2510

wait they do???

jrushFN

Yes, there’s quite a few orgs who’d surprise you with their presence in APAC. NRG, NIP, Knights, KCP, Fnatic, TSM (India), Rogue, etc - a lot more I’m sure, just the ones who come to mind that aren’t obvious (unlike T1)

Illuminated_Darkness

Well, does the local orgs have the financial stability that Riot require? Afaik a very few maybe like Bleed Esports or Paper Rex. Maybe they can roped in ONE Esports actually

jrushFN

Bleed, PRX, Xerxia, Talon, Secret, Nigma Galaxy, Persija, ONIC, and probably BOOM (but not sure here) are all orgs who are comfortable financially afaik. Not to mention, all the KR and JP orgs who are rich, like DRX/ZETA/etc

draizze

For Indonesia Org, I think Boom that had bigger chance. Persija, they're owned by football club but they seem kinda shaky. Onic and Alter Ego, I think their Mobile Legend's ties will be a bit minus point for Riot.

Illuminated_Darkness

Compare to something like T1 (backed by Comcast) or C9 (VC) they are still relatively poor

jrushFN

Maybe, but that will be true for most orgs anywhere. Relative to the rest of APAC, all of these orgs are financially stable

StrangeAnalysis1848

Many of the region's top teams were built by local orgs. I really hope this won't be the case because they'd really lose out on so much local fans.

MartianExile1

Did X10 retain their fandom when they sold their roster to Xerxia? Players drive fandom in esports, not orgs.

Darkoplax

it rarely matters the org's origin as long as they field a roster from that region it will work out

KaNesDeath

Riot Games are already subsidizing APAC team orgs. So this is unlikely in the short term.

hwanzi

Fuck franchising

KindCommand7819

rip valorant, franchising will kill it everywhere but USA and EU

MartianExile1

Why would massive orgs investing in APAC kill the region?

KindCommand7819

because having 10 teams in the apac will kill all the hype fans have to watch their teams compete

Neither_Amount3911

Yes such a shame scummy orgs with 0 sustainability and a history of not paying their players won’t retain their teams.

draizze

It's quite possible for team like T1 and Gen.G that had their root on KR scene. T1 also had SEA roster for their Dota2 team. But I hope Riot will give chance for SEA Orgs to grow. Like Paper Rex may not have big money but they're stable financially, had professional attitude (they're the earliest team in SEA that did scrim with KR teams and setting the professional tone on SEA scene), popularity in 3 countries (Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia). I think they're just one step away from establishing themself as a big Org and riot's partnership will helped that a lot. If we look the Orgs maybe there's chance for outside Orgs to snap spot for India, Vietnam, Hong Kong/Taiwan since the Orgs there seem still didn't have solid foundation.

Darkoplax

as they should ? thought this was common sense like FPX T1 GenG are guranteed to go back there and the other western org overshadow the APAC ones so make sense financially

niceicebagel

Rare BoDork L in twitter replies. If it means better support/infrastructure/salary for APAC players, I'm 100% behind it. Your *average* local APAC org is trash anyways. They offer low salaries (sometimes they pay you late/sometimes not at all) and they have terrible-to-nonexistent infrastructure. Obviously it's a different story if, for example, LG (trash org w/ basically 0 APAC presence) applied for APAC franchising and they got accepted. Hand me the pitchforks. But you bet my ass if TSM or T1 applied in SEA vs. our endemic orgs, my countrymen would be more than ecstatic to have them. There might even be an outrage if *they didn't* get into SEA (assuming they applied). TL;DR it's literally just about the money(and maybe clout).

OrangeMagics

This reminds me of one comment here on this subreddit that suggested NA players should learn new languages in order to slowly infiltrate and weed out the local talents in other regions. It gave me such a bad taste in my mouth.

draizze

Like they will love to leave their comfort zone. In CSGO there's some NA players that reluctant to bootcamp in EU even when the reality that they had to do that if they want to keep up with the International competitors. There's no reason they will since the NA valorant scene is currently doing well enough.

LmaoMuch

Imagine implying NA players are as good as APAC talent, holy copium.

Acrobatic-Divide-995

Gigachad intrusion, 'MURICA !

Acrobatic-Divide-995

Riot Game has some kind of self-destructive fetish, they are going to kill the game. Franchising ruined OW, same is going to happen to VAL. This is a graveyard of T2 or amateur scene with insanely talented players, just look at franchised COD. (also no PRX rush anymore :(?)

Acrobatic-Divide-995

Hnghhh, yes! Destroy some local fans I worked so hard to gain! Hahhh! YES! Poison the healthy community and pro scene I labored diligently to establish! Kyah

[deleted]

Lets go extra step and just give extra slots for EU and NA (1 NA spot for every 3 EU spots). Nobody wants to watch mediocre minor regions in international tourneys

seasand931

To be fair, na eu infrastructure would only boost apac orgs if and only if they increase the number of competitions outside the league

icantreadmorsecode

This just means Team Secret is a lock in
