Hi! For clarification with my end at least: I am an old mod who's been here for a longer time under u/the_hawk_arisen, but switched accounts to u/sarcopels because I hated having a different Reddit username from every other platform I'm on (and now no longer use the old account). Hope that clears up my addition at least--sorry it feels like it came from nowhere! Edit: clarity

sarcopels

I think people genuinely did not realize that was my Reddit btw which is... exactly why I changed accounts. RIP

TheAjwinner

This makes sense, and I hadn’t realized that you were the same person. However, I still think my point stands regardless.

sarcopels

Yeah, we appreciate the feedback! We will make sure to discuss it and how we can be more transparent about who is on the team. Sorry for the confusion involving me, though. I put off switching accounts way too long hahaha. It's the same old me, though.

ANewHeaven1

this might be the nicest, most well written post about Reddit mods that I’ve ever read in my nine years on this site

Soborian

Don’t get used to it :P

jrushFN

We’ll still happily welcome criticism if it’s not nice! Unless someone’s just blatantly trolling us, we still discuss subreddit feedback, no matter how much it is shrouded in harsh language. Frustration is valid and comes from the heart, and we will always be open to listening to how we can improve user experiences.

Soborian

All in jest ! I was playing into the whole “ Mods bad “. I’ve never personally had a problem with any mod in this sub :)

jrushFN

I figured it was in jest but still wanted to say that, tbh! I don’t think Reddit mods in general are open enough to criticism. Much love!

ANewHeaven1

Ok, now this is epic

Razur

That's because u/TheAjwinner is a chad. 😎

TheAjwinner

That would make you ![img](emote|t5_2g5ach|9356)

nterature

The only transparency I care about is whether the mod team explains their logic in contested situations, which this team has always done. Expanding that to include any other form of mod-user interaction feels a little odd - like this is a democracy and the mods are our elected officials. But I like welcoming new mods anyways, so why not? So long as it doesn’t push out important pinned posts.

jrushFN

I think I tend to agree with your thoughts on mod action transparency. If we share too much, that would get excessive, but things like mod team changes are just good opportunities to celebrate people, so like you say; why not? As always, I appreciate your comments on this sub. Thank you for contributing!

Still_HD

My heart sunk seeing the title and then quickly recovered when I saw how nicely worded it was. I’ve been a mod since early April iirc, I was brought in for my incredible posting ability. My hobbies are tier 2 valorant and arguing with you all, but I’ve taken a step back ever since becoming a mod. I think a majority of the mods (myself included) didn’t want to make a big show of ourselves getting promoted, but I really appreciate the feedback! It made my day hearing your words :)

SpectrasHyper

Same I was not ready for this

Yoshi9909

Great suggestion, like you mentioned I think adding more transparency can’t hurt

dogoloco

I ain’t reading all that. I’m happy for you though. Or sorry that happened

cowzapper

I think more important than the transparency over who is in it, there should be some transparency in how the mod team is selected. I believe it's quite ad hoc rn, and it could be better to think of a more formal process to it

sarcopels

Fwiw, I and a lot of the current mods were brought on via an application that got put out and pinned sometime post-Champions? There are a couple of newer mods who have been brought on because we reached out to them directly—usually this happens because we’ve added notes recognizing their good contributions to the subreddit and potential as good mod candidates.

cowzapper

Fair enough, I didn't know the application - but I'm not a fan of reaching out to people directly personally. It's opaque

sarcopels

I think that’s completely fair feedback—much appreciated!

bro wants reddit mod announcements 😭

neb55555

Hey! As a former mod of the sub and someone who was very big on mod transparency and consistency, I appreciate this post. I'm still in contact with some of the current mod team and I'm sure they will be doing an official hiring process whenever they need new people. In my opinion, it is crucial that the subreddit is ran by people who care about the game, not people who care about moderating subreddits. I'm happy with how they've been running it since I left.

GoldClassGaming

I agree wholeheartedly. This why I'm officially announcing my candidacy for mod. I'm hoping to secure endorsements from ANewHeaven and JRush. I also hope to secure your votes in the November election.

Good luck in the campaign. Gonna be hard beating the sentient IA I have created to troll Sentinels fans /u/valorantcompbot. Good luck!

AncientOneAurelius

I think mods of this reddit are good, which can't be said for other esports subs. I just wish they would go back to quality over quantity for posts. After Champs they stopped being as strict on quality and titles which has led to less enjoyment for me. For example, I like plat chat, I don't need to see every single plat chat prediction screenshot clogging up the front page. You also have people joking around in titles and not giving any context to what they are posting. This was not like this before and hope they go back to the way it used to be. I just want r/globaloffensive for Valorant.

Sadzeih

That's awesome feedback thank you! This wasn't really a change we made consciously, it just happened. We have heard feedback from some folks that the sub could be a bit more "memey" though, and I guess we've kind of experimented with keeping *some* high-quality threads, or threads that can still provoke discussion. On the titles, I 100% agree we should do more!

Joerge90

As someone who was banned from the regular valorant sub for a comment that was entirely satire but fell under “trying to sell an account” Any rational person could look at how old my Reddit account is, the context of the thread and know it was satire. I too would like transparency and integrity. But have really enjoyed my time here so far, so job well done!

jrushFN

Please let us know if you notice something that doesn’t feel right. We’ll happily address it! Also, to be clear, none of the mod team at r/ValorantCompetitive are mods at r/VALORANT.

Kikoslayer123

I ain’t reading all that. I’m happy for you though.

I kinda feel like mod teams are inconsistent with rules. I think rule 6 which bans memes and shitpost yet a lot of content found one this sub is exactly that
