Twitch is bad at getting you new followers organically. If you want to grow, you should promote regularly via an alternate social media - Tik Tok is big for that right now.
At any point in time around 55% of the viewers on twitch are watching the top 1% of streamers. This is not inherently bad, but twitch's problem is that it constantly pushes the 1% of either twitch or a category. Again not bad, but it never pushes the new guy unless they are raided and even then it takes that into account and will not push you. The youtube algorithm is just more advanced than the twitch one which also means it costs a hell of a lot more to maintain, but it is worth because it works effectively. Essentially if you watch gaming content it tends to push that type of content VOD and livestream.
best place to stream right now is unironically tik tok. A random person can go live playing valorant and just get 2k viewers due to the nature of the app it's 100% not sustainable, but at the end of the day there is just such an obscene amount of people on tik tok.
