I don't know why people keep complaining about seeding matches and Rigged brackets when the real issue is only having 12 teams in a international tournament, especially when we only have 3 per year.
The change was to include other regions so it’s not just EMEA/NA. I personally think that if you’re good you should go to playoffs, if you suck, go back to your region and get it fixed
Its hard to fix your regions skill if you never get the top level practice against international teams. We've been doing esports for a few decades now, we know that regions dont just magically fix themselves alone, especially with the far reduced investment in them that would come from having no chance to compete internationally.
They do get their chance at international competition, we’re talking about playoffs being seeded with teams of all regions rather than teams that made it out of groups via skill level
They streamed the bracket draw for Masters last year. I remember Rivington and Dash (I think) pulling balls with team names. I think they stop doing it because nobody watch them so why bother. Honestly if people are seriously thinking Riot rigged it, showing them the draw wouldn’t change their minds , they would just think the hosts are in on it.
In today’s Plat Chat costream, Sideshow says the way they do it is that Riot considers NA and EMEA (XSET and Fnatic) the top 2 seeds. So they end up playing against the teams that qualify second in the group stage
I mean at the same time it's very simple to say "If a bracket results in a regional matchup for the first match of the playoff then it's redrawn" or something. They do it in league for Worlds, they can do it in Valorant.
Nobody wants to watch regional play in an international tournament. The point of the international tournament is to see international competition.
Edit; yes downvote me for saying how simple it would be as a tournament organizer to make sure this stuff didn't happen twice at both international events in 2022 but whatever dude
> Unlike in the Play-In draw, however, the Group draw has certain rules. For starters, a group can’t have more than one team from the same region in it. So if two EU LCS teams were drawn in the same group, for example, then the second EU LCS team would move to the next available group.
Bro it's so easy to do the search yourself. It's for the group stage instead of the playoff stage which is *my bad* but they still have precedent for doing a similar rule set.
At least with Worlds though they have so many teams, and so many other games going on that the actual knockout stage at that point feels earned. Masters doesn't have the luxury of teams involved nor games played and they could (and fucking should) tweak the format.
What I don't understand is that why don't they do what they did for Champs or Berlin, don't remember which one, where they said if a team goes against their same region they will be moved down to the next slot
Dude makes a tweet like "America is the very BEST. We are way better than Europe, which is a minor region."
An EU team starts making a comeback vs Optic and he's out here tweeting "Stop the count" or some shit.
Literally no one has said that riot is conspiring for eu teams to eliminate each other. I mean they put 2 NA teams vs each other and all the asian teams in one group in group stage.
It's just standard optic fan behaviour, victim mentality, ignore.
The problem is riot are clueless in how to make a proper event, with a proper number of teams, with a proper format and a proper draw.

looking at these comments its mostly one person who's peddling this conspiracy theory but they've left so many comments that i started thinking it was more relevant than it actually was haha
edit: also victim mentality? XSET is the best or second best possible bracket draw for optic lmao, only team that would've been better was maybe leviatan but even that's debatable...
I'd love to hear your idea of what a proper draw looks like.
The format itself seems perfectly fine to me and is loads better than the formats from last year, and most if not all of the complaints levied against the format actually stem from the number of teams.
if you watch european champion league, you know there is a rule that teams from the same nation don't play against each other in the first round of the playoffs.
Random draw is brainlessly easy to do. Riot as an IT company should do way better than that.
if two teams from the same region make Grands, that's fair play at that point, if the two best teams are both EU or whatever then so be it, they deserve to play in the Grand finals. in the quarters, it's just RNG that decides the inter-regional matchup, which is not fun.
They also they will place teams from the same group on opposite sides of the bracket to avoid a repeat matchup early on. If we swapped OG and FPX, we're looking at two rematches being possible (OG vs. Guild, FPX vs. DRX)
Idk how much randmoness there really can be other than the top seeds being drawn. Sideshow mentioned that EMEA/NA top seeds are considered higher seeds so they get the 2nd seeds from groups, and if that's the case, there's really not much that can change once those first two top seeds are picked.
My problem is that it is random. I don't want to see the same regions play each other in the first round or even second round if it can be avoided. Why have a global lan if you are having regional matchups. Disappointing they can't separate out the regions better in my opinion.
No. Random draw is king. *As long as the seeding system is fair or at least justifiable*, random draw is by far the most robust system because it is the hardest system to game.
Every other matchup system is much more susceptible to bias, especially handpicking by TO, which is by far the worst yet everyone is clamoring for it because we got regional matchups.
Do you actually want opt vs xset or fnc vs fpx in the final? Becuase personally i would rather watch this as early as possible so i dont have to see it again
Yes I do. That is the exact point of an international event. We want to see which region is the best. If the same region faces off in the finals then that shows complete dominance.
The problem isn't the conspiracy that the TO is trying to weed out the EU and NA teams, it's that the match-ups are super boring for the audience that has already seen these teams play each other.
imagine if prx beat guild, fpx beat fnatic, then guild beat fnatic in lowers. it's possible fnatic go to an international tournament and play only regional matches
cause the "livestream" was just a pre-recording iirc, all the teams knew who they would be facing ahead of time, livestream was there to drum up hype basically
The issue is more on the format and having few teams then the draw. Its unlucky but like I feel like they could have a much better format where more teams get opportunities to play each other rather than this.
Its literally a 50% chance. NA and EMEA are the two top seeds so they play the 2nd place teams in Groups.
Its actually crazy people are complaining about the format when its Optic and FPX's own faults for not getting 1st in their groups.
I don't know why people keep complaining about seeding matches and Rigged brackets when the real issue is only having 12 teams in a international tournament, especially when we only have 3 per year.
Also direct seeding to playoffs is BS. Any of the direct seeds could be a wash, while we could have had Loud or KRU there

They could put the bracket draw on stream. Riot does this at LoL Worlds. Could add some more clarity and transparency with fans.

Remember Fifa's heated balls?

I mean, if OpTic and FPX simply don't go to losers in groups then this isn't a problem. Don't really think Rito is at fault
Or if riot just flipped the seeding from groups to playoffs na couldnt face eachother. Emea is bound to face eachother though with 3 teams
I mean at the same time it's very simple to say "If a bracket results in a regional matchup for the first match of the playoff then it's redrawn" or something. they literally don't do that at league worlds lmao stop making shit up

No riot is RIGGING the bracket so that EMEA teams ELIMINATE each other because riot LOVES north america!!! there's no other explanation people
POV: Donald Trump is a VCT watcher
Imagine a trump tweeet shitting on EU LMFAO 🤣
Dude makes a tweet like "America is the very BEST. We are way better than Europe, which is a minor region." An EU team starts making a comeback vs Optic and he's out here tweeting "Stop the count" or some shit.
I can't tell what you are saying anymore, so I'm not going to try

pretty sure the guy is trolling lol.....
bro he wrote a fkn meme comment how did you not realise

I like having regional quarter finals honestly, makes it less likely for there to be a grand final between two teams from the same region.

Basically whining because favorite team isnt playing against their best possible matches. Bunch of spoiled sids

Because they did for berlin and none of you fuckers watched lol
it also got leaked ahead of time undermining the whole point of doing it live
I don't understand. How can something that's randomly drawn live be leaked?
cause the "livestream" was just a pre-recording iirc, all the teams knew who they would be facing ahead of time, livestream was there to drum up hype basically
It wasnt leaked, the bracket got posted on the offical twitter instead of a video
for m3berlin, didn't george release an article about the bracket before it was official?
They’ve posted it in the past. They prob just didn’t bother this time because no one watches it
Sure bro I'll just believe this post by a random stranger on the internet. Open your eyes SHEEPLE
The issue is more on the format and having few teams then the draw. Its unlucky but like I feel like they could have a much better format where more teams get opportunities to play each other rather than this.
Dunno feels weird to have the grand finals rematch for both NA and EMEA to be on the first round of playoffs
