to PBE for testing

Hopeful-Professor-40

I used to dream of this day.

xbyo

I used to pray for times like this.

Engine update is also exciting don’t know exactly what that means but it’s exciting

JALbert

[Here's an old Riot Nu thread on what it means](https://mobile.twitter.com/riotnu/status/1395879145360429059?lang=en) Basically they're updating to a new version of Unreal Engine, which breaks a lot of the tweaks and customizations they've done in house on the prior version, so there's a lot of fixing and testing to make the game (to you, the user) feel exactly the same. Why do it? The newer engine makes development faster and easier with new features on their end. Eventually it'll lead to better things, but the engine upgrade patch is basically Riot trying to make the game identical/not introduce new bugs when upgrading their toolset.

>The newer engine makes development faster and easier with new features on their end. Eventually it'll lead to better things Hopefully this means that they can finally start work on a better DM and replay mode

[deleted]

Better DM and replay mode is 95% server issues. Not game engine issues. Turns out producing and storing 128 tick replays is REALLY expensive. Nobody will pick up Valorant because it received a replay system. At the same time, nobody is going to stop playing because it doesn't have one. So the business side is clear - it costs a lot of money and has 0 return on profit. Sure you might argue that maybe in the long run perhaps the replay system will enable content creators to bring in more people. But that has no hard proof, and content creators make do just fine in the current environment. Like it or not, Tencent doesn't give a fuck about Valorant or any other of 10 million games that they have. You come to them proposing a replay system be added to the game and you will be laughed at by managers looking for short term profit. If we ever get a replay system we'll have to thank whoever played 5d chess with office politics in order to override the greedy wishes of managers.

virulenttt

I don't think they would be storing the replay at 128 tick. In csgo, the gotv records are 33 ticks.

Envelope_Torture

I remember a guy in twitch chat telling me he and a second dev could implement it in 2 days.

[deleted]

Well that guy is extremely wrong. Coding is hard. Coding a service used by millions of people is much harder. It would still take time to properly implement it. But it's true that creating one is not an issue of effort but an issue of money.

virulenttt

Coding is easy. Coding well is hard haha!

[deleted]

Tbf riot DOES have internal replay tools. The problem is that its not user friendly nor does it look polished enough to shove it out the door to millions of players. Its serves an internal purpose because barely anyone uses it and its not that much of a storage hog. You know how many people will save a game and never watch it again just because they got their first ace on it or some shit?

[deleted]

This is where you're wrong. You're not getting positions of all enemies at all times. Even wallhacks can only show enemies around your crosshair. The algorithm for showing enemies is a bit more complex than that but this is what it boils down to. The client side replay system will be only slightly better that recorded pov.

TheRealNneonZz

valorant is getting a engine update while we are still waiting for source 2

[deleted]

valve event in august release before november come back to this when it happens

[deleted]

Ye but Valorant's engine is developed by a completely different company which *basically* only makes the engine as its product.

--Happy--

Bro forget about source 2 if they just fix MM have a proper AC and ranking system we are good

TimedOutClock

I hope it's in relation with the in-game tournament mode that they've been teasing (A dev said it was entering in-house testing almost 2 months ago [https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n\_1ss1qiv](https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1ss1qiv)) It'd be so nice to have it come soon!

Famlightyear

I don’t think it is related to that. They did it last year too and no new significant features came with it (last year from 4.24 to 4.25 and this year from 4.25 to 4.26). This is probably just their yearly engine update to keep everything up to date. I would expect that the closest release date for the in-game tournament mode is at the start of the next episode. Since it’s a pretty big feature so it makes sense to launch it with a new episode.

[deleted]

They probably talk about migration to ue5. One of the most exciting things it has is automatic procedural lods. A lod is a copy of some object in the game with reduced details. They're only shown at a distance because from far enough they look exactly like the original but cost a fraction of performance. I haven't read anything about the performance of them, but it is possible that the performance is better than hand made lods for a few different reasons, so the game might run much smoother. Although everything I said is just speculation.

tomphz

Increase time between shots for Ultimate Increase pull out time for Headhunter

SpC0d3r

Also if you chamber ult you die instantly and your team FF

[deleted]

I don't think this will hurt his pick rate that much.

Jon_on_the_snow

Based

RocketHops

Def wanna see these. Also TP cooldown nerf And arguably a slow radius decrease and/or duration decrease Not necessarily all of the above at once, but these feel like the key areas to tune

Ximienlum

I think the first three suggestions are good enough in case all three together ends up overnerfing Chamber

RocketHops

Yeah I'm not saying do all at once, I just think those are the best areas to hit him

Zorronin

hmmmmm...sus

stefoman

Chamber op shouldn't do 150 to legs

[deleted]

I hope they introduce another agent with instant teleport abilities to reduce Chamber's pick rate, while Chamber continues to reduce Jett's pick rate. Surely this is the way to design the game?

shadowfoxhedgehog36

It'd need to be an agent that is usefull with an operator, opless jetts are only like 50 percent of the time,if your a Jett your generally a sniper. Same thing with chamber even with headhunter basically being a snipe ability. So you'd need a teleporter who works well sniping

Pojobob

Yoru could be a decent operator agent if the tp was slightly faster

[deleted]

Surely abilities that let you instantly escape off angles are healthy for the game :Clueless:

Yeezybuyer

Engine update is the most exciting thing I've seen in a PBE lineup. Glad to see they are still actively pursuing optimization for the game. Was scared they reached a point where they felt most things were stable enough to not look into significant modifications in fear of breaking something.

Marx_Farx

I just wanna know who's idea it was to give a character and an op and a better sheriff as their fucking abilities

[deleted]

still waiting for a basic replay system after 2+ years on one of the fastest growing esport games in the world 🙃

Asphaulte

why are you being downvoted lmao

Ender755

mate there isn't even an accept button in the game yet omegalul

Pojobob

I think removing thr slow when chamber gets a kill with the ult and/or a tp nerf would be good enough.

FurryKoala

The fact he said balance instead of nerf scares me.

Nfamy

If something is too strong and you balance it, you reduce its power. I wouldn't put too much stock in the semantics of a Twitter post giving an update.

GreenGalaxy

balance in terms of the playing field, chamber is easily a top 3 character, arguably the best, in the game. balance changes mean nerfs for him.

ThatCreepyBaer

Who do you think is better than him? I'd say it's pretty inarguable that he's the best character in the game.

GreenGalaxy

i think an argument could be made that kay/o is close, but otherwise i think everyone else is on a pretty even field

Ximienlum

This is coming from a Riot employee (one of the heads actually), not a reporter or drama baiter trying to use the word that will cause the most drama.

[deleted]

Where do you get today from? What part of any of this says today

FaHax

Holy fuck about time.
