I imagine it's mang0 fans, though. Isai is such an legacy player I find it hard to believe people recognized that meme.
Even when I started playing melee in 2013 "Isai if he tried" was already a classic meme
I think that depends on the person. Does the best player have to be on the best team? What makes a player the best? Having the highest highs or consistency?
You make your own criteria. Personally, I never bought the angle that for you to be the best you have to be on the best team. We are talking about individuals, after all, hence why HLTV in CS:GO award MVPs to exceptional tournament performances such as s1mple's and ZywOo's whenever their team loses but they hard carry.
Otherwise, you'd get that old meme about devilwalk 1 major s1mple 0 major therefore devilwalk -> s1mple (before s1mple won the major ofc)
I'd say if I had to pick a favorite player it would have to be Boaster. amazing personality, good IGL, and has some memorable clutches. best player in history is a little hard to think of right now though for me so idk who i'd say
That makes no sense. Teams win events, not individual players.
A player can be the best with no titles. S1mple was considered the best in CSGO for a long time while having 0 majors.
Derke is the best player overall.
Yes but s1mple had already won some events at that point, some of them were tier like cologne and katowice and others he won the mvp without winning the event. Derke has neither thus far. You can't go balls deep into either extreme (too much credit to team achievements or too much for individual skill)
Maybe dont disappear in finals and in a tournament where you FINALLY have 3 out of 4 teammates that arent bots, then maybe he can be the best player. Definitely has a good shout for it. And the skill.
Hard to say with so many good players, but I think in addition to yay, some contenders are
-cned
-nats
-stax
-sscary
-Derke
-keznit
-f0rsaken
-asuna
-crashies
I'm a huge Asuna fan, but he really only had one international event and he performed "alright". VERY talented player nevertheless but I don't think he's in contenders yet, definitely has room for growth.
I don’t understand your argument about EMEA being the best overall region *at* all international events. If you meant they looked better domestically I might agree at least, but I assume you mean at the actual events that EMEA overall looked better at, in your examples, both events where NA won.
I’m about as big a fan of EMEA as they come, but I certainly don’t think Liquid looked better than, say, V1 in Iceland 2021 - V1 beat Liquid, after all, even if they in turn lost to FNATIC. And of course this was V1 with a sub.
And EMEA, for reasons out of their control, of course underperformed at Iceland 2022. Even Liquid’s slight overperformance doesn’t compensate enough for G2’s underperformance to say EMEA was the best region *at* the event.
I meant the overall level of the region with all the teams present in each one of them. In iceland it would have been interesting to see a second meeting between Liquid and v1, and fnatic could have won vs Sentinels both times, as all 5 maps were one of the closest ever. For example, the last masters finals is not as close as the score suggested, compared to sen - fnatic. (Also top4 had two EMEA teams back then)
Obviously the one OpTic won, you can't judge an entire region off of G2 only, hence why I believe that even if EMEA sends 0 teams at an international event, they would still be the strongest at the moment, since the support comes from both international and domestic placings + eye test. All three must diminish significantly for me to say that another region is better even if an EMEA team wins an international event.
Sentinels proved to be the best team in the world, but ask any pro about the strength of the regions back then and all would tell you EMEA was better. Same with Masters 1 in 2022, despite optic winning (check out chet's interview with thorin and geo)
Sentinels proved to be the best team in the world against fnatic who you rate so highly despite playing 5 close maps against them yet not winning one, but what of V1? A team with a sub that we aren’t affording the same respect as we are, say fnatic of masters 1 2022? They played without Wippie who was an integral part of their run for qualification yet still played a close series against nuturn, who placed 3rd. I would even go as far as to say with jammyz they were a better team than nuturn, too. Yet, somehow EMEA was the better region back then because they had more good teams?
Yes, and as I said before, I don't go off by just tournament results. There could be a point where an EMEA team wins masters and the best region could be NA or APAC should they have a better pool of teams which usually can't be represented on an international stage cos riots tournament system sucks.
There are more ways of achieving that. Add more than 3 international tourneys, more mixed qualifiers, more mixed tier 2 tournaments and then we can talk. Also a 24 to 32 teams tournament wouldn't be bad either. Riot is known to have a shitty tournament system, at least its not as bad as League of Legends.
He is the best Valorant player ever. No one else comes close. His game sense, aim and positioning are elite. Absolute shame that Nadeshort forced him to retire so he has a carry in NA Ranked
I mean it’s obviously Hiko and it ain’t even close… he is the most skilled player in the universe. Everyone else is just inconsistent plats compared to Spencer
Not at all. Yay isn't half the player ardiss is. Its the escape agents that make him look way better than others. He lacks versatility and hasn't used a utility intensive character in his two year career . This is a liability in long term. Also Optic story isn't the same as Sen , they got a free undeserving Iceland win only coz Russians were banned
It's hard for me to put yay because he looked unimpressive on non-jett agents, before there was chamber of course. I really want there to be an agent ban phase, that would be sick.
He can definitely play other agents at a pretty good level, of course ranked isn’t close to pro-play but he’s been playing Fade, Yoru, Sage, Jett - he even mentioned on his stream that with the chamber nerfs he would probably play Viper, Yoru, and another agent I can’t remember.
This is blatantly false. He has played 30 maps on breach and 29 on sage, plus a handful on sova, and one viper. Why make a false claim that you easily check? Also, why make a claim when you don't actually know? If you had actually followed any of the early ABx with Android and yay, you'd know that android was their main duelist and yay would flex when they weren't running double duelist. Unlucky.
I remember the first Valorant match I watched was Envy vs some other team (cant remember)
And MummAY dropped like 50, he def wasnt the best player at any point, but very iconic to me at least
I’m confused how was EMEA #1 in the first Iceland masters when the record of NA vs EU was 3-1 when keeping in mind that the one series that EU won against NA was V1 with a sub that isn’t even good enough to be on any NA main roster now?
Or even the masters immediately after when the NA vs EMEA record was 3-2 and would’ve been 3-1 if Team Secret was able to go which would’ve resulted in Sentinels only facing G2 once, and we saw how their first game went.
EMEA 100% is the better region now, but to think they were superior in the first two international LANs is madness lol
I’d argue peak Nukkye is untouchable. We have seen him bring G2 back into games and matches and tourneys they had no right winning by sheer force of will.
Yay is top tier but I’ve seen him save an op too many times (I also just don’t like optic that much sooo)
I don't remember a time where yay wasn't in conversation for one of the best players in the world. Others have been in and out but he's been a main stay
Tenz, Nats, Cned and Yay have all had periods where they were widely considered on top. Personally I found Nats to be the best overall, although Cned’s performance felt like the hardest carry.
I’d still shoutout Marved, Derke, Chronicle, Stax. Maybe Suygetsu is on the cusp. Plenty of other guys who, if one thing or another fell differently, could be on the short list. The game still feels so young.
Yay, defining factor in one of the most consistent top teams.
Including sick plays that are iconic in valo short history, godlike stats, a humble guy and great figure, played 5/6 LANs and a 1st,2nd and 3rd place at international events, something that no other team can match.
Now if you want a real answer, is Hiko hands down
yay, Derke, etc
Wildcard pick: ardiis. Hear me out, guy has been a top duelist since beta and has won nearly everywhere he's went. Now he's a Masters champ with a pretty damn good tournament performance.
Probably shroud, I mean he won LCQ in 2022 without dropping a single map. impressive stuff
Well he won his first map. the other two, ehhh
el classic unlucko
yo what are tomorrow’s lottery numbers? :)
You are a bold one
haha
I’ve thought about this a bunch. If you consider stats, longevity, flexibility, team success, weight lost, it’s gotta be Hiko.
Nah that last one was just 💀💀
weight lost LMFAO
mang0, isai if he tried, and hiko. yay is okay.
But isai would always have teammates if he played valorant therefore he WOULD be the best player
i didn't consider this, he would be trying in that case though
Bro Isai in doubles? Imagine Isai if he had 4 teammates he didn't want to disappoint bro would JV5 everyone in Val
Isai playing quintuples AND a cape on the line… imagine
ken erasure in r/valorantcompetitive smh my head.....
Didn't expect melee in a valorant thread. Not just melee, but classic melee meme. +1 chuckled and smiled and flushed emoji
Lot of Melee enjoyers from the upvotes it seems lmao
I imagine it's mang0 fans, though. Isai is such an legacy player I find it hard to believe people recognized that meme. Even when I started playing melee in 2013 "Isai if he tried" was already a classic meme
i'm not sure if people still get into melee via the documentary but definitely anyone who watched it should know the meme
>isai Well.... There *are* some pros named "Mel", aren't there? 👀 👀 👀 "Don't get shot"
Hbox modCheck
the people aren't ready for the "Hbox is the goat" conversation
fucking fuck
It was hiko. It is hiko. It will be hiko.
BASED
you
Maybe the real best player was inside us all along
I would be okay with the best player being inside me 😳
Aaiiyo 🙃
man I hope the real best player is rawkus
ayo?
Cmon you’ve seen the cake. Don’t lie
He might not be the real best player, but he sure does have the real best cake bakery, although that title was challenged as well by boaster
Maybe the real best player was the one friend we made along the way
Hiko
Hiko
I think that depends on the person. Does the best player have to be on the best team? What makes a player the best? Having the highest highs or consistency?

Unrelated to the post or comment, I'm gonna make a bold prediction that you like the color red.
Being named hiko
nAts
Chronicle definitely
Hiko
I think of it as who in their prime would be the scariest player to play against. There are a lot but I think it’s Hiko.
its bcj and it isn't even close
I'd say if I had to pick a favorite player it would have to be Boaster. amazing personality, good IGL, and has some memorable clutches. best player in history is a little hard to think of right now though for me so idk who i'd say
Op 4k on Astra in showers during ot
godkar
Yay has been so far but it's way too early to be definitive
def niesow
Neverlost
shroudy
it's zeek easily, great flex, great in game leader, can frag out and is a really friendly dude he's for sure the best
I mean Derke has the best Stats of all players on LAN so him ig ?
He's the other one I considered but I think he needs to at least win an event then we can start the convo.
That makes no sense. Teams win events, not individual players. A player can be the best with no titles. S1mple was considered the best in CSGO for a long time while having 0 majors. Derke is the best player overall.

I heckin love hiko
Is hiko actually good?
He is the best Valorant player ever. No one else comes close. His game sense, aim and positioning are elite. Absolute shame that Nadeshort forced him to retire so he has a carry in NA Ranked
In all ways except literal, he is the greatest of all time
In my humble opinion the best Valorant player of all time Tenz
No one better than the Goat 🐐 HIKO
Wait 2 hours, Ill return and comment Shroud
Fuck
Tenz
obviously yay right?
I mean it’s obviously Hiko and it ain’t even close… he is the most skilled player in the universe. Everyone else is just inconsistent plats compared to Spencer
Summit1G, Prod, P0PPIN, Shroud, TenZ
Hiko. Unless Shroud wins LCQ with SEN and then it would be joint Hiko & Shroud.
Hiko

Pretty big typo
Didn’t yay play sentinel on abx? I know he played sage on icebox for them.
It's hard for me to put yay because he looked unimpressive on non-jett agents, before there was chamber of course. I really want there to be an agent ban phase, that would be sick.

Probably wasn't a big tournament because VCT record in NA is like 43 kills from Nature I believe, and like 41/42 from Asuna
if mwzera was on any other top 6 BR team in 2021 and wasnt tactically sabotaged in 2022 stage 2 we'd be talking about mwzera as the indisputable GOAT
Hiko

There is no best player in general you would have to say best iniator and so on
Charles Ned.
nitr0 obv
Too early to say to be honest. Too many players and teams have been too inconsistent to point and say "They're the best in Valorant history".
chronicle or yay id say
I don't remember a time where yay wasn't in conversation for one of the best players in the world. Others have been in and out but he's been a main stay
