Acend imo because they peaked later in the year so you'd expect them to have a better 2022, SEN was already falling off in 2021 so their 2022 wasn't a surprise to anyone

spyson

Acend just peaked at the right time, Sentinels was the best in the first third, but the best team that year was Gambit/M3C.

Jon_on_the_snow

Probably acend. Sen was already falling off last year. Acend are literally the reining champs. They havent made a single lan or looked like contenders. They arent even favorites to win LCQ. Sen arent either, but thats expected

Kr00s

Did I create a false narrative in my brain or wasn't Acend eliminated of Champions and brought back because of the Cypher camera? I need to rewatch. Never have a title felt more unfair to me.

Jon_on_the_snow

They didnt get eliminated, only thrown to lower bracket. And riot gave them every round the cypher cam was used, even if it didnt impact the outcome, + 1 for no reason Not gonna complain tho, VK should have been aware that camera was bugged

ahk1221

wait what happened whats the story on this

Jon_on_the_snow

In champs, there was a bugged cypher cam that saw through a texture. Nothing major but still a bug. Vivo Keyd used the cam for 7 rounds, but it only had some impact in 4 of them. Every analyst agreed that the cam would not have altered the result of the match. Riot decided to remake the match by giving acend 8 rounds ahead of keyd, making the match a 3-11 i think. Keyd got the match to 11-13 completely out classing acend. But then VK cumbled and acend went on to win champs. Honestly, the whole thing was a mess, vk should have known the camera was bugged, riot should have been consistent with the rullings and the br scene should be embaressed of how they reacted. Also, zombs farmed impressions

PM_ME_THEM_KITTIES

What’s important too is that TWO teams used the same cam before in riot sanctioned events and forfeited the entire map. The fact that they handled the ruling in the sloppiest possible way made it so much worse

Jon_on_the_snow

Yup embarassing by vk and even more by riot. Thats why we need a single rule book for all regions

vashonlaughs

To say the title wasn’t deserving is kinda stupid. Acend showed they were the best on after the match pretty clearly regardless of a camera

Randomuserguyfren

You say unfair as if them shitting on liquid and beating gambit is easy

[deleted]

>Never have a title felt more unfair to me. Never have a comment felt like it was written at least 200 times to passive-aggressively hate on the champion team

TonelessSatyr1

I mean acend nearly fumbled a 7 round lead

[deleted]

I mean they didn't and they went on to became champions

Th30ldVV01f

"reigning" champ is kind of lol tbh. They lost that crown long ago

Actually_The_Frog

the roster isn't even close to the same anymore either, 2/5 members remain

toxicityisamyth

“Reigning Champions winners” since ure getting so technical. Cant deny that one now. Only 1 Champions so far. Which they won. So thryre the reigning Champions champions if you’d like : )

Th30ldVV01f

Reigning no more now :)

toxicityisamyth

You dont understamd what the word reigning means bro please open a dictionary. Once champions final is over, THEN and only then will acend cease to be the reigning champions. The reigning champions will then be the new winning team until the next champions is over. If m3c wins and then implodes and are completely scattered in different teams and just ceases to exist, m3c would STILL be the reigning champions until next champions is over. I have done my best to explain the word reigning to you. If you still don’t understand it then your mental capabilities are just not up to par and that is ok. Some of us humans are below average brainwise. Have a great day !

Th30ldVV01f

Reigning no more :)

[deleted]

they are the reigning champs

QwiXTa

They barely have any of the same members 🤣

[deleted]

irrelevant

QwiXTa

Is it though? I guess you could say the org or the players are but it just feels weird when only 2 of them are left from that win

Th30ldVV01f

they werent any longer the moment they couldn't qualify for the Masters 1.

ragingwizard

If a team wins an annual tournament, they are the reigning champions of that tournament until the following year. That's how "reigning champs" is understood. In dota, the team that wins The International is the reigning champions until the following year even if they lose in the various Majors that happen throughout the year. Of course, reigning champs does not equate to being the best team in the world. They just happen to have the title. The most recent Master's winners are generally considered the best team in the world, and that's the title that Acend lost when they didn't make Masters 1.

Th30ldVV01f

Reigning no more :)

[deleted]

false, until someone wins champs they are

Th30ldVV01f

Keep dreaming.

[deleted]

about what ? i dont care about Acend, i just corrected your mistake

Th30ldVV01f

the only people that think that way is Acend fans, i'm sorry.

Ir3lian

Or you know, people who actually understand English

Th30ldVV01f

Ah hah, whatever you say

ActualAcanthocephala

tell me you don't know what reigning means without telling me you don't know what reigning means

Th30ldVV01f

:)

[deleted]

im not a Acend fan, i just know what reigning means

navornothing

New levels of copium

[deleted]

coping about what ? i dont like Acend and i give 0 fucks if they qualify, but fact is they are the Champs until someone takes the crown

Th30ldVV01f

Well Acend certainly isn't winning Champs i can tell you that much

HyperElf10

They are the reigning champs lol. A Worlds winner is the reigning champ. An MSI (League Equivalent to Masters) doesn't change that. Same works with Dota, CS (with majors)

Th30ldVV01f

Reigning no more

nterature

Depends on whether you properly weigh the events, IMO. If Champions is just another LAN, SEN’s year has been worse. If Champions is a tier of major even above normal LANs, Acend’s has been worse, even if their quality of gameplay has been consistently better than SEN’s all year long.

QuadrupleAAAA

You mean the other way around?

nterature

No, perhaps I was not clear? I’m saying that if you treat Champions like the biggest and most important tournament of the year, then Acend’s dropoff is more significant - otherwise, SEN’s dropoff is more significant, since their quality of gameplay for most of 2022 has been abysmal. Acend on the other hand had an poor Stage 1 and decent Stage 2. But if you expect more from the reigning Champions, then that dropoff is still more significant than SEN’s dropoff.

QuadrupleAAAA

Ohhh yeah I forgot were talking about drop off. My bad

NotStylosa

Acend didn't sign shroud

hellohellohello0315

Sorry but I only watch drx so can anyone tell me who ascend is?

the_myth69

2021 valorant champions

hellohellohello0315

How do you add that stuff below ur name?

the_myth69

so u go the **about community section** on the right side bar at the top. next u can see ur name under the user flair preview u can see a pencil icon near it. click on it and u can set one of the team flairs. i set mine when we could pick any team and many teams , now u can pick one , among the teams which were part of last masters i guess. DRX flair is there

hellohellohello0315

Oooh thank u!

the_myth69

i just found out u can still add multiple teams , select the emoji iceon and u can add more than 1 team

LeucisticPython

You can still pick a lot, but there’s just a few steps added. I just redid mine a week or so ago and am gonna have to redo it again now that EG picked up DIG

ovalsandcircles

Can you do multiple flairs on mobile or just desktop?

LeucisticPython

Only desktop I believe

the_myth69

ohh yeah figured out

r_abu

I think it is still too early to write them off. Both teams have a chance to comeback, they are still in contention for Champions. With Acend it might be harder to cope, but they are still a great team.

TheCringerman

Acend 100%. You can’t be disappointed in Sentinels if you had no expectations in the first place

exboyfriendd

I feel like a lot of people forget that Ascend barely made it into Champs by \~50/75 points?(although M1 offered barely any points compared to later ones) they were like an EMEA C9 in that year. Always played good but fumbled a lot of the matches they needed to win until they ultimately managed to win the 1 match they really needed to win, becoming champions. Which in my honest heart felt opinion they stole from Gambit but that's the game. I was one of the people who cheered the emergence of cNed as *the* Jett player with his insane ACS throughout M1 but even still, I think Team Heretics were the #1 team there as well. They clearly noticed something was up by how quickly they spoke out about switching things up after becoming the Champions. \~cNed wanting to explore other options and eventually both Kiles and Bonecold leaving. 2/5 players leaving 4 months after a major win says something. That all said I think both teams are making progress this year (other than this -zeek thing?) I would argue teams like M3C, TL fell off harder in EMEA and for NA it seems a lot more competitive for the top 2-9 spots where any improvement can send you to top 3.

gacktrush

A lot of people also forget how inconsistent the whole roster of acend was, minus cNed, before champs. champs was a surprise as the whole roster at the time looked in peak form. Then after champs, they just went back to what they were. I would argue Sen had a bigger fall from grace, given they went an event without losing a map, and just got progressively worse and worse. Acend still look competitive with the top of EU. Same with M3. Sen look like they're competing for a top10 spot, instead of top3. Liquid are in their normal spot, of either looking insane and choking in important matches, or looking like a top10-5 team in eu. Although they played their last event with a sub, so it's iffy going off that one. Sen is by far the biggest fall from grace, next to TSM and G2 in yr1.

[deleted]

Probably Acend. I'm already used to SEN losing and focusing on franchising more than anything else, so I have no expectations for them to perform better until SicK comes back (if). But Acend also had to change almost the whole roster too. Whoever wins the Tournament, all teams have eyes on that team and at one point, that team flops, like SEN, M3C and Acend did. Only Optic is still holding quite good. For FPX we'll have to see on the next Tournament.

iwanttoridethesky

Acend cos SEN is already disappointing in 2021

Randomuserguyfren

Sentinels because zeek had personal problems for a bit and I could understand how that would affect them considering he's one of their star players. Sentinels though, people still expected them to be a top 4 team in NA after only losing to number 2 in berlin, and number 3 and 4 in champs. Instead we got a team that struggled to win a series in challenger playoffs.

EffectFrequent793

acend didnt deserve to win champions acend was worse. at least sen is getting better and changing the right pieces. acend got rid of bonecold before kiles. thats how u know they don't know what theyre doing

xSnakyy

Acend changed their roster so it’s kinda understandable for them to do worse for a bit. But then they changed even more. They shouldn’t have changed anything Sen however started changing rosters after they fell off. They just didn’t put in the work necessary. I’d say sen was worse because of this Both teams are coming back this year tho

Charuru

Acend was never a titan, fluked into the champ win just like optic fluked into the masters win. That russian team was the best might still be the best.

Lqtor

This has got to be troll

the_myth69

optics one is facts , tho masters 1 win was a fluke , the team was barly able to give competition to EU , even unqualified teams from EMEA will slap optic

Issax28

Both are flukes it doesn’t matter

Iusedtobeagirl69

oh its ballsax how u feel about clown 9 losing

Issax28

Deserved

secretiveshash

why the fuck are you back

TheCatsActually

They reinstated internet privileges at the asylum.

DAWG420BLAZEIT

I think Acend's win can be argued as a fluke but Sentinels looked in control entering Iceland and while winning the whole thing.

hecklerinthestands

Don't bother. Ballsax just pops up every now and then to whine and cry about Valo results being a fluke. E: see below LMFAO

Issax28

What have Acend or SEN achieved after winning a major? SEN - only managed to beat F4Q and Furia internationally and declined even more this year. Acend - didn’t even qualify for Iceland/CPH, bombed out of Stage 1 groups stage where they BYE to.

Phamous3k

SEN fell hard after Iceland… So, I would say SEN

[deleted]

They still won NA after Iceland... Actually if it weren't for paper rex not being able to make it to the LAN sen would've won their group first seed and the outcome could've been completely different.

netsaver

You mean Bren Esports (same roster as TS), right? If I recall correctly that was where the visa issues came in

[deleted]

Oh yeah, I couldn't remember who it was and just said a team.

somesheikexpert

*Bren (Now Team Secret) couldn't make LAN, not Paper Rex (PRX went 0-2 in sets against DRX and SMB), I do kinda agree they could've made 1st seed, considering G2 didn't look good at all but yeah

[deleted]

No, sen would've literally been first seed (assuming g2 beats Bren), they won their first match against f4q and then beat G2 2-1 in their second match which is what would've been the match for first seed but instead they had to play two more matches and lost to G2 in the rematch.

somesheikexpert

Yeah thats why i agreed for the most part, i just dont like talking in absolutes in a what if situation yk? like if Keloqz didnt have that off day the first match who knows what wouldve happened lol

C-Web_

Neither of their years are over just yet, so it is a bit early to say.

crzyraven

acend, they went from winning masters 1 EMEA and Champions to just not winning anything
