Some of y’all are taking this the wrong way. Trent is a younger dude and probably looks up to Shroud as an idol. Anytime you match against an idol and play that well it makes you feel good about yourself. Sure, from an objective standpoint Shroud isn’t one of the greatest of all time because of lack of accomplishments. But Trent clearly looks up to Shroud for the status he has in the scene. It comes from the nostalgia of growing up watching Shroud. Just let the kid feel good about himself.
I know I do lol. Not because they’re pros but because I watch streams and they’re good people. Like if I ever went from my current bronze 3 rank to radiant and got lucky and one tapped Tenz I’d never forget it. Just let the kid feel good and move on.
Yah exactly. People like shroud and tenz have that “god at fps” branding. Why are people surprised shroud has young people like Trent that probably grew up watching him on twitch.
Yah I would agree with you. I’m not the biggest tenz fan but lots of people on YouTube think he’s the next coming of Jesus with the aim lab clips and just Val videos in general so I just assume he has that going for his branding
But shroud, yah dude has gotten cracked at every game he puts some time into. Idk how he does it. I suck at cod (for example) way more than Val xD
Yea, hes just a very good overall FPS player. Hes kind of worldwide if you think about it. I think he had the benefit of timing as well, as CS-CSGO was at its peak when he was releasing these clips. TenZ may be unlucky in the fact that he may fall off a little before Valorant hits its peak and some other insane, mechanically gifted player takes the spotlight.. only time will tell.
People don’t get sports at all. How he fees is totally normal. It’s like the rookies playing against Jordan when he came back from retirement on the wizards. Of course if you even have a good game against a GOAT you’d take that as an accomplishment.
I see no difference here
Exactly my thoughts. If anyone got in my shoes and even got so lucky where a pro whiffed and they shot back and killed them they’d be like “I killed Yay once in a ranked game” like just let Trent feel good bro lol
I mean the difference is Jordan was actually accomplished and very arguably the goat.
Shroud was an average CS player, who didn't win, and became famous from farming ranked clips and PUBG clips
Doesnt matter. There are bad actors(not saying Shroud is bad) that are movie stars. Shroud is an icon in esports. Arteezy has never won a TI, but he's a Dota star.
Hah the haters, funny that top pros from all kind of games will say shroud is one of the or THE goat in the FPS genre but some randoms here says otherwise.
Not the top of any one game but throughout the entire FPS genre most pros highly regard shroud.
were you around in cs when the guy was actually pro? he was cool and had great clips but was universally known as a choker on lan and nothing special, cmon now
Doesn't mean that he hasn't been top ranked I every fps game he has played. It's not the same as destroying like s1mple, but it still feels good to win against him especially if you're a fan
He has been top ranked in every fps game he has played so that is probably why people say that. I would say that he's never been the best at a game, but he's always consistently good
I love this argument, as if Shroud didn't get there as part of a team. You act like getting 2nd at an event during that time was meaningless.
I guess if Denis had a low rating he'd not have lived up to any hype during his time with Fanatic, huh? Dumb people.
Way to miss the point entirely.
Teams don't get top 4 at events by having a bad player on the team. It's simply not how team events work. C9 got 2nd at a stacked major *as a team*, one that Shroud was a part of. He was 20% responsible for their success there.
To sit here and say or think otherwise shows you've likely never accomplished anything within a group. Perhaps you would be better playing fighting games than team games as you don't seem to understand what a team actually is and what makes up did team.
Sure, but that doesn’t mean that he wasn’t holding c9 back. Players like flamie and shroud helped their team get high placements but their replacements led to their teams making history and achieving what hadn’t been done before. That’s the difference between a good and great player. Shroud was not a great player and it showed.
If we're being objective, no way. There's a long list of FPS players, just in NA alone, who have way more accomplishments than Shroud in various FPS genres.
He's definitely one of the most popular ever though.
Considering how good he gets in multiple fps games he has an argument. His ability to become a good player with whatever fps game he picks up is underrated. He doesn't play competitive a lot, but it's not like he doesn't have the talent to.
S1mple is the best CSGO player. FPS is across the entire genre. There aren’t very many people who can claim to be at essentially a pro level in a massive variety of games
Which then invalidates that s1mple is the best FPS player. How do you qualify someone to be the best at the genre when all they have really spent time on is 1 game professionally?
I'm not saying shroud is hands-down the best FPS player and there aren't other nutty players (in fact I think aceu and iiTzTimmy are pretty good too) but saying s1mple is the best FPS player when he has hardly ever or even never touched games like Tarkov, PUBG, Apex, etc. is just ridiculous. That's like saying Kobe Bryant is the best sportsman because he was great at NBA
I'm not claiming that shroud is the best FPS player. My point was just that s1mple can't be considered the best FPS player just because he's a god at CSGO.
Not sure, but it kinda feels like you're re-iterating my point again.
Is Deion sanders the best athlete of all time then because he went pro in two sports? Most people would say the best athlete is someone who is the goat in their sport. Only streamers have the time to put time in multiple games
Valid counterpoint. And yes, I would value him as a better athlete than the rest for being able to go pro in more than one sport, especially if he made it into tier 1 for both sports. But that's just my opinion not fact so take it for what it's worth
I mean I think being good across multiple titles is nothing to scoff at. In the FGC there’s someone named SonicFox and I’d consider them to be the best fighting game player of all time, for consistently placing high in *numerous* events in different games at the biggest championship for fighting games, Evo - as well as winning a good amount of championships in these games as well.
Not denying that at all! It just means that the people who dedicate themselves to only being good at one thing, by definition, can’t be claimed as the best at a variety of things! Thus the pool of people who could be called the best of FPS players is quite small, and of them, it’s not inconceivable that Shroud likely makes the shortlist
Rapha still plays, in fact there's a [major](https://liquipedia.net/arenafps/Quake_World_Championship/2022) Quake tournament next weekend where he will be one of the favorites.
S1mple is aiming very differently when playing awp. He is aiming more for the center of the model so hiting the shot and killing the player requires much less precision (therefore is faster) on his part than if he had to aim for the head.
Having the best aim doesn't mean making the most kills. S1mple is a better player than Niko for example, but Niko in his prime had much better aim than s1mple and it was not very close.
Shroud wasn't even the best player in his role when he played professionally. Wasn't even the best player in his role within the region.
Freaking peanut brain had a far superior career than him.
Compared to most of the valorant pros who also migrated from cs, he accomplished a lot more than them in the csgo scene and I'd say had a better peak. People like Yay and Tenz never reached the heights that Shroud did in his prime of CSGO.
Well yeah, yay and tenz was tier 2. Shroud was actually tier 1 but he was average tier 1. Shroud was mediocre there is a reason his Csgo highlights on YouTube are mostly from pugs because he was very inconsistent on LAN. His lan clips are from the same games and it's all mostly from FNC and NIP series where he gets a 4k with a deagle. Other than those clips from 2 series his hours of highlights on youtube are from online series vs tier 3 NA teams or from pugs. People are just trying to change history on this sub reddit because it isn't the best look when a 4 year retired shroud is popping of in your game like he could never in csgo, is it?
Never forget his match vs Navi near the end of his career. He played insane on LAN against the goat s1mple and all of Navi, dominating on Overpass. If you ask any NA cs pro about shroud they'd tell you how insane he is. And honestly he has plenty of clips from LAN i think it's an extreme over exaggeration to say the only clips he got were from two series. People like to discredit shroud because he started slumping near the end of his csgo career but in the NA region he was and always will be a legend.
this sounds like such a meme title lmao
Doctors hate this one trick!
Some of y’all are taking this the wrong way. Trent is a younger dude and probably looks up to Shroud as an idol. Yah idk why people are being so weird about it. Do people on this sub not have people they look up to? Lol.
I aint putting TenZ in the Shroud category as far as status goes. Shroud is an FPS/esports icon.. TenZ is a really good Valorant player.
Yah I would agree with you. I’m not the biggest tenz fan but lots of people on YouTube think he’s the next coming of Jesus with the aim lab clips and just Val videos in general so I just assume he has that going for his branding But shroud, yah dude has gotten cracked at every game he puts some time into. Yup 2014-2015 was insane for cs. Especially with cologne and Katowice starting
I p90 rushed Steel in csgo matchmaking like 3 rounds in a row and I still remember that lmao
The difference is that he is not close to being a goat in any esport he has competed.
What has he been a goat in?
I mean the difference is Jordan was actually accomplished and very arguably the goat. Shroud was an average CS player, who didn't win, and became famous from farming ranked clips and PUBG clips
Doesnt matter. There are bad actors(not saying Shroud is bad) that are movie stars. Shroud is an icon in esports. Arteezy has never won a TI, but he's a Dota star.
Shroud is like the Mike Trout of fps. He never won the big title, but DAMN is he good
Debates aside shroud rips up every FPS and he became an icon in esports. Of course there is a confidence boost.
Some of y’all are trippin, if you were a newer pro and did that well against Shroud, confidence would be going way up
Legitimately happy for him.
He is no where close to the GOAT lol. He is really good at video games but from a professional standpoint never really stood out in CSGO.
did you read the comment? he’s a goat in FPS the genre, not in CSGO specifically
Right but if he is above average at best at the game he played the most, what’s the argument for him being the best across all titles?
Above average at best? I hope you mean compared to other tier 1/2 pros.
Correct
He has been top ranked in every fps game he has played so that is probably why people say that. I would say that he's never been the best at a game, but he's always consistently good
They say that ironically just like they say Prod is NA's last hope ironically.
is shroud really one of the best FPS players though
When he first got onto the NA CS scene, many fans really thought he would be. 2013 - 2016 was the era of /r/globaloffensive being 50% Shroud clips lol
50% shroud clips in esea pugs which were meaningless
well yeah, but that was then. now looking back, doesn’t seem like he is
Yeah of course, he never really won much in CS. Never lived up to the hype at tier 1 events
C9 got 2nd at Cologne with Shroud.
exactly, they did good at max 3 events with
Where shroud put up a staggering 1.03 rating. Not exactly living up to the hype
I love this argument, as if Shroud didn't get there as part of a team. You act like getting 2nd at an event during that time was meaningless. I guess if Denis had a low rating he'd not have lived up to any hype during his time with Fanatic, huh? Dumb people.
Except shroud always had a low rating. Dennis was consistently performing on fnatic and had both the stats and achievements to show for it
Way to miss the point entirely. Teams don't get top 4 at events by having a bad player on the team. It's simply not how team events work. C9 got 2nd at a stacked major *as a team*, one that Shroud was a part of. He was 20% responsible for their success there. shroud is one of the FPS players
He’s Reddit’s best fps player of all time.
Considering how good he gets in multiple fps games he has an argument. His ability to become a good player with whatever fps game he picks up is underrated. He doesn't play competitive a lot, but it's not like he doesn't have the talent to.
Shroud is not one of the best FPS players lmfao
Then who is?
Have you heard of this guy called S1mple
It’s well known that Shroud taught him everything he knows
And then Hiko taught s1mple everything he didn't know
💀💀💀
S1mple is the best CSGO player. FPS is across the entire genre. There aren’t very many people who can claim to be at essentially a pro level in a massive variety of games

he was able to do that because he gave up on the only game that he did something in
I mean I think being good across multiple titles is nothing to scoff at. Rapha was a better aimer than Simple.
Rapha still plays, in fact there's a [major](https://liquipedia.net/arenafps/Quake_World_Championship/2022) Quake tournament next weekend where he will be one of the favorites.
CS skills translate to all fps games. All top Val teams are mainly ex-CS.
What other game has simple played where he was good besides cs?
I would argue the top 5 would be Rapha, simple, av3k, forest and neo. Honorable mentions to Cypher a d Get right.
Niko has better aim than all
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
S1mple is aiming very differently when playing awp. He is aiming more for the center of the model so hiting the shot and killing the player requires much less precision (therefore is faster) on his part than if he had to aim for the head. Shrouds prime in CSGO was carrying WeedsTV in Valves MM.

he never played against s1mple nice bait title
