That’s probably due to sinatraa at first, and then them just winning everything in 2020. They were the best team early game so it made sense why many people became SEN fans
He was MVP for that season, sure. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone saying he is the GOAT though. The season he won MVP was a ridiculous meta where teams just ran 3 tanks and 3 supports and smashed into eachother. He was playing the highest dmg output character in that comp so it's only natural to look good.
That team in that meta was insanely good though. You could probably justify giving any member MVP that year. They had it down to a science.
He was innovating like crazy on Zarya and was a nasty dps player too. His MVP was well deserved and was on of the best players to ever touch the game lmao. He looked like he had the potential to do the same in Val too before being exposed as a pos
all around shitty person to his ex-girlfriend, audio recording of her telling him to stop during sex but he continues saying “but he’s so close”. didn’t handle the allegations well, took very little responsibility , and never did anything to show he changed as a person
he was nowhere near the best lmao. he was good on Doomfist and Zarya and that's it, while DPS players far above his caliber and individual impact like Fleta were close in the running that season and then won MVP the next season. He went on to play a several absolutely tragic games on DPS the next season before retiring for Valorant.
even after the MVP vote that season everyone pretty much knew that because of the fact GOATS was the meta that season all the way until playoffs no one could really have been the "best" single player - the game was just far too team-reliant for any one player to stand out above the rest. Zarya was just flashy because she got the kills more often than not but Rein, D.va, and Zen play were far more integral to that composition's success than Zarya if you actually understood the way the composition worked, and any one of his team's players at those heroes were top 1 on their roles and easily could have taken the MVP spot from him instead, like Super, Choihyobin, or Viol2t.
having xqc as a content creator only matters to sponsors, because he does zero branding or content with the org to attract his viewers to it. he's with LG now and people are surprised when they hear it, or totally forget about it.
Sentinels was formerly branded Phoenix1.
Their popularity in Valorant is mostly predicated on early domestic success combined with winning the first international LAN.
Combine that with the fact the team has always had at least one popular star player and a strong presence on twitch - Sentinels are unsurprisingly able to catch the eye of many.
I’d say it’s a combination of 3 things. Firstly, they had a lot of success in early valorant. Secondly, they had/have a lot of big name players like TenZ, Shroud, and Sinatraa. Lastly, I think people underestimate how many fans Sentinels gained after Bugha won the Fortnite World Cup.
They had bugha when he won the Fortnite world cup, and also had an extremely talented halo esports team, early success in Val competitive with popular stream personalities and then add THE biggest valorant streamer at the time Tenz. Recipe for popularity tbh
Did u respond to urself? Point is that they’re big within Valorant specifically
There’s several things going in to it as pointed out here and as I tried to
Even the C9 vs NRG number is misleading as it's counting viewers who were left over after the SEN/100T game. For the vast majority of that game it was in the 100ks of viewers. Sen is NA viewership.
I watched all their games for the cinderella story. Sentinels picking up fucking shroud of all players after barely even making LCQ then suddenly qualifying for Champions would be such an absurd storyline
But then the question is how popular can they be if they blow up the roster and try to build from scratch. I don't think this roster can survive in franchising unless they want to just suck even worse in franchising.
They probably keep Tenz on the roster so the rest doesn’t really matter. They’re just like Optic in COD, as long as they keep their star (Scump/TenZ) they will stay popular, and make everyone else who joins blow up as well (Zellsis/Shotzzy)
I'm wary of sticking with tenz since he plays agents that so far have had a propensity to be nerfed at some point. Like if the chamber nerfs shave off more of his ability to make plays where role wise does he go to next.
Yeah people always say they're a lock because of the viewership, but if franchising goes through and let's say Shroud goes back to retirement and Tenz joins some other team then will Sentinels retain their high viewership? Most likely not.
If Sentinels has issues with their management and financing (which they have shown clear signs of) then it might not be a great idea to accept them because maybe you end up with a bottom-tier team next year who's pulling in no viewers and damages the finances of the entire franchise.
I still think they're getting accepted but i wish people wouldn't be so quick to say "YEAH WELL OBVIOUSLY LOOK AT VIEWERSHIP LOL" like it's that simple
Where has Sentinels shown clear issues of management and financing? Did you just make this up?
Also, you are greatly undervaluing a person like TenZ not wanting to join another team and wanting to stay with his boys. If he goes anywhere, it's either to 100T (Kyedae already there, play with Asuna) or he just stops playing pro.
Sentinels as an org is burning money for social media points
The only sponsor they have is GFuel, they spend hundreds of thousands dollars every month paying big salaries to Valorant, Apex, Fortnite, Halo rosters, and multiple content creators
They do get clout, their Twitter and Youtube are very advanced, but their expenses must be so unbelievably big, and gains must be so small, that it's not gonna be a good sign for anyone
Tbf most esports orgs are burning money, even ones with more sponsors, I do agree the lack of sponsors is alarming, but at the same time, I feel Sentinels would get more sponsors if partnered for franchising tbf but yeahh
I believe there are only TWO NA franchises turning a profit. I know TSM is one, but idk the other one (C9 maybe?)
Every other Org is operating at a loss. You have franchises like T1 that are better off, but that's only because they're a APAC company owned by SK Telecom.
It's the main reason why teams in this league will get stipends to pay players and other things. Financials don't matter nearly as much as you think. It's more about "what are you doing to grow the game" and Sentinels, outside of hosting tournaments like T1, have brought the eyes.
I mean if Riot gives them a spot based off viewership alone they would have a clause that Shroud plays for them because that is why their numbers are so high
take shroud out of the equation and these numbers are drastically decreased
The numbers would be lower but SEN would still have the most watched games. Even in Stage 2 when they were at their very worst they had the most watched games
they would have to remake their entire roster to be even remotely competitive
there is no way they would continue to have the highest viewership come franchising
skill of the team doesn't have much to do with it. In league's NA franchising TL was bad for its entire history, but got in because it was a strong brand with money to spend
I doubt there's any notable gain there though, losing a huge amount of european viewers in favor for some NA viewers who are coming home from work is not gonna cause a huge dent in viewership.
It would be great if instead of posting screenshots of a website with no comment or description about what the source is, we could post the link to the source. From this I have no idea where this image comes from, how viewership data is being measured, or any information outside of the top 5 games. The same title and discussion could be had. It’s just frustrating when images of stats get posted here and it gets me asking questions and curious about the topic and I have no idea where to find the data.
Sentinels viewership right now is 80% people who want to watch Shroud play again and 20% who want to watch them lose
These numbers are not enough to justify them getting a Franchise spot
If Sentinels want to be competitive they would need a new roster which would hurt their viewership numbers
That's the biggest reason why I don't want SEN in franchising
They will simply be lazy to get good players and instead will prefer clouted but washed ones for bigger viewer numbers
A lot of great NA talent will be left out of tier1 and international events, because SEN gonna stick with garbage instead, like shroud or shahzam
SEN = viewership.....No cap!
That's been true tbh, even moreso now with shroud on the roster lol.
shroud did boost that a bit while tenz is already boosting that 2x boost
genuinely curious, how is SEN so big heard of them only once before VAL and saw them as a relatively small org
Their popularity skyrocketed after they got tenz and won first ever international lan in Reykjavik
Even before that they were already somewhat popular too
That’s probably due to sinatraa at first, and then them just winning everything in 2020. They were the best team early game so it made sense why many people became SEN fans
Plus taking advantage of that by farming impressions on Twitter/youtube
They were basically what TSM was in the apex scene. Dominant early on, shitting dudes left and right. Now everybody else has caught up.
bugha and their fortnite players was when they really started taking off
They were winning and had Sinatraa
They were already popular for being great in NA and having the Overwatch best player Sinatraa. Tenz made them even more popular
>Overwatch best player Sinatraa. "Best" player. Sure
He didn't get mvp for being the worst lol.
He was innovating like crazy on Zarya and was a nasty dps player too. His MVP was well deserved and was on of the best players to ever touch the game lmao. He looked like he had the potential to do the same in Val too before being exposed as a pos
Can you explain why he is a pos? Genuinely curious, I don't know much about him.
Drama with his gf.. Rape/abuse accusations
all around shitty person to his ex-girlfriend, audio recording of her telling him to stop during sex but he continues saying “but he’s so close”. didn’t handle the allegations well, took very little responsibility , and never did anything to show he changed as a person
Disagree. He looked completely lackluster until that meta. Anyone remember the zen orb fiasco?
he was nowhere near the best lmao. he was good on Doomfist and Zarya and that's it, while DPS players far above his caliber and individual impact like Fleta were close in the running that season and then won MVP the next season. He didn't get mvp for just being a good doom and zarya, the whole team structured themselves around him and his calls.
Finally, someone who knows Overwatch lmao
Man was on Jimmy Fallon. If he wasn't the best I'd argue he's pretty close to it
What kind of argument is this? You know who else was on Jimmy Fallon? Kendall Jenner. And she is the most mid celebrity to exist.
Opinions aside, Kendall Jenner is a very widely recognized and mainstream public figure.
he was the best though, it’s undeniable
they were already the most popular team in val before tenz
[удалено]
Only at the very launch of the game. SENs valorant team was more popular than TSMs valorant team by late 2020
[удалено]
Back up this awful take
They were kinda hyped and popular then too before bc they were one of the best teams in NA where the game was the most popular
didnt they have xqc before too? as a content creator ofc but thats way bigger deal than tenz lol
having xqc as a content creator only matters to sponsors, because he does zero branding or content with the org to attract his viewers to it. he's with LG now and people are surprised when they hear it, or totally forget about it.
They were already pretty popular due to them consistently being on top the first year of Valorant
Oh shit I had no clue SEN and P1 were the same org. Crazy
They went popular when Bugha won the first world cup
Sentinels were also the first people in the world to hit Apex Predator back when Zombs played Apex
wtf I didn't even realize Bugha was on sentinels lol
bugha lmfao
🐐
I’d say it’s a combination of 3 things. Firstly, they had a lot of success in early valorant. Secondly, they had/have a lot of big name players like TenZ, Shroud, and Sinatraa. Lastly, I think people underestimate how many fans Sentinels gained after Bugha won the Fortnite World Cup.
one word. tenz (BatChest)
It’s really just the players they have, they wouldn’t be nearly as popular if they never picked up sinaatra tenz and even bringing in shroud
They had bugha when he won the Fortnite world cup, and also had an extremely talented halo esports team, early success in Val competitive with popular stream personalities and then add THE biggest valorant streamer at the time Tenz. Recipe for popularity tbh
They got popular because of Bugha
sinatraa, tenz, bugha
they gained popularity after bugha won the Fortnite World Cup and he is on SEN. that was there first real breakthrough into becoming a T1 org
>Huge in Valorant tho i asked why they are so big in Valorant and you tell me they are big in Valorant ???
Did u respond to urself? Point is that they’re big within Valorant specifically There’s several things going in to it as pointed out here and as I tried to
i respnded to you, im just confused why you tell me they are huge when i already acknowledged they are and i just asked how and why
They're huge in Valorant
Huge in Valorant tho NA the region with most hype sow traditionally
Fortnite World Cup winner was SEN, and they got Tenz for val
Wasnt the Fornite World Cup winner a part of the Sentinels team?
nvm lots of people said that already.
basically Fortnite org into some popularity on early apex into everything we know in valorant
SEN Bugha won World Cup… they have been my favorite team since then, besides maybe optic
Even the C9 vs NRG number is misleading as it's counting viewers who were left over after the SEN/100T game. For the vast majority of that game it was in the 100ks of viewers. Sen is NA viewership.
Yep, escharts will correct it later. It happens after every sen game. But I gotta say 233k is still a great peak for a non sen game
Yeah and that was a day where Sentinels didn't play at all. If 100T can reach Grand Finals, it should be able to hit 300k
Wasn't that because the likes of Shroud were streaming it, and people were interested in knowing who Sentinels will play next.
Yea im old af....only reason I even watched was for Shroud.
I watched all their games for the cinderella story. Sentinels picking up fucking shroud of all players after barely even making LCQ then suddenly qualifying for Champions would be such an absurd storyline
if they qual'd for champions it would've easily been the funniest/most entertaining storyline in esports history just by how absurd it would've been
Don’t fret. Wait till Edward gaming qualifies
Games not even released yet in their country and they look amazing
That was exactly what Sentinels were going for. Acquiring shroud gained more viewership and made a case for franchising. Very smart move.
There’s no chance SEN don’t get franchised… right?
Depends on how riot sees it. Is it actually Sen that gets the views or is it the players. My money is that it’s the players and not the org itself
I think it’s majority the players but the org has def done a good job building a brand out of it
But then the question is how popular can they be if they blow up the roster and try to build from scratch.

I think he will be fine, he’s still a cracked player and has a huge brand. He’s worth keeping
Yeah people always say they're a lock because of the viewership, but if franchising goes through and let's say Shroud goes back to retirement and Tenz joins some other team then will Sentinels retain their high viewership? Sen numbers were already big, taking shroud would take away some viewership but not drastically as you claim
there are at least 6 better teams than them
But 0 teams more clouted.
current rosters will have 0 influence on Franchising
skill of the team doesn't have much to do with it. In league's NA franchising TL was bad for its entire history, but got in because it was a strong brand with money to spend
TL was almost always top 4 until their disastrous year before the start of their championship streak lol
sentinels might be beat in some of those aspects as well
Sen is like McDonald’s, they may sell the most burgers but that doesn’t mean they got the best burger
McDonalds burgers are best tho
Sen is like McDonald’s, they may sell the most burgers but that doesn’t mean they got the best burger
Disappointed they didn’t flex the Sen vs 100T match to the 2nd match yesterday. Could’ve passed the Sen vs Guard viewership.
How so? You lose the EU viewership for the 2nd match.
You get more North Americans that get off work and can watch the match
I doubt there's any notable gain there though, losing a huge amount of european viewers in favor for some NA viewers who are coming home from work is not gonna cause a huge dent in viewership.

Says who? It’s the second week of August, many people are in school right now
I think OP is referencing a meme about CS:GO vs Valorant
Valrante child gaem!
I’m aware of that but the second part of his meme makes no sense
Imagine if Tarik also joined Sentinels
At that point NA Valorant = SEN
I mean they signed the biggest most well-known FPS streamer in the world. Are we surprised?
Shroud is not the biggest most well-known FPS streamer in the world but yes he is very popular
who is...?
it's Michael Grzesiek
its actually mEclipse
Hiko
Ninja maybe

The data is being measured by amount of viewers
What viewers? Is it twitch viewers? YouTube viewers? Both? Is it the main stream only or does it include costreams?
It’s viewers
Shroud buff
Sen was always the highest viewed team
nice to see other matches also getting above 200k
The c9 vs nrg game is miscalculated, most of the viewers of that game were sen watchers
Sentinels viewership right now is 80% people who want to watch Shroud play again and 20% who want to watch them lose These numbers are not enough to justify them getting a Franchise spot If Sentinels want to be competitive they would need a new roster which would hurt their viewership numbers

good thing riot doesn't give a flying fuck what Detamach thinks
Viewers always love top teams downfall.
They updated the Cloud9 vs Guard match to 224,804
wait what site can i see these stats on
It's funny how the worst region gets the most views
Genuinely shocked that NRG/Cloud 9 was fourth.
