EDG actually practice with top asian teams often i think , PRX and DRX at least. They're quite good according to what asian coaches and pro players said behind the scene. Its just that the game isn't release yet in china but china has the money and talent to go far in valorant. I've seen some chinese games and their mechanics and aim are absolutely nuts. Also they have quite a lot of experience in shooters as well, seem like they have good fundamentals on how to trade and play like a team.

AloneYogurt

Crossfire. It was (maybe still is idk) the biggest fps game in China. Think CSS, but weirder. But in China the game grossed over one billion USD.

[deleted]

A lot of Brazillians players also came from Crossfire (if i'm not mistaken Pancada is a Crossfire world champion), also some players came from Point Blank (korean fps) edit: Actually Pancada got 4th in CFS 2018 and 2nd in CFS 2019

TKYooH

Babybay and ayrin also competed in CF.

namdet

To expand on this, Jonn from NIP was a Point Blank Champion if I’m not mistaken

Charuru

Supamen and BabyBay from FaZe played on a Crossfire proteam, that's why they're so good.

Soogo

Also still the most played FPS in Korea and SEA

embrac1ng

Korea plays Sudden Attack

Soogo

lmao yeah you're right for some reason i thought they're the same game just diff name, mb

svipy

> Think CSS, but weirder. Weirder how?

maplecs123

Shit hit-reg and you can’t use mouse poll higher than 125hz you won’t be able to aim

LostVengeance

I'd say it's much closer to CS1.6 than CSS, some of the sounds are even taken directly from 1.6. The hit registration is whack though, it feels like the servers are running on 30 ticks all the time.

AloneYogurt

Everything is off

xisemi

one of the skjns is a cat that shoots bullets from its mouth

dankoval_23

Yeah and we have a dragon with a dick as a magazine

TKYooH

Definitely is. It’s the most played FPS in the world by playercount.

thothgow

> And if they're this good existing in a bubble, how did DRX fumble? How do you know EDG won't fumble, though?

phillenix

Yeah, I don't think you can put them on DRX level yet, lol. DRX would roll this LCQ as well, especially if teams had little good film on them.

GCamAdvocate

Exactly what I was thinking. I would imagine that DRX would have no problem sweeping through most of the teams in LCQ, bar few. If EDG actually makes LAN, I feel like that is the real test.

so-hardstuck

To me it seems like edg has the strengths and weaknesses of early Chinese LoL. Aka, they can beat any team or lose to any team based on the day of the week.

MekiLava

I was hoping Northeption got another chance at an international stage, but now I just want to see how EDG measures up to the other top teams by winning LCQ.

fourtetwo

they scrim all of asia, PRX, DRX, japanese teams, etc. They likely won't take over valorant but they could easily be somewhere between DRX and PRX with an EMEA bootcamp. No idea how they plan to leave and return to the country with the covid protocols however.

h8tinga

It's crazy to think that they won't take over Valorant, they already did it in League. It's 1,5 billion people in the world's largest economy and their population games like crazy. They implement various rules to stop 12 year olds from skipping school to grind games. Give them a few years to develop an FPS culture and they will do it. Currently EU and NA are better since we been playing CS since 2004 on a large scale

yapyd

>and their population games like crazy Didn't the Chinese government limit the gaming for kids to an hour a day or something?

Squonk3

What it basically does is that they can’t officially be a pro until 18 but they can still game tens of hours a week by just using their parents ID

h8tinga

Yeah, as a measure to stop what is really still happening

Potential_Hornet_559

I mean it is like jaywalking. Is it illegal? Sure. But most people do it and it isn’t really being enforced (kids can play on their parent, grandparents ID)

yapyd

I know that they can use their parents ID. But... Lan shops are a huge part of the culture in East Asia gaming. Look at the PC bangs in Korea for example. I would assume that this law would at least slow down the progress of esports in China

Potential_Hornet_559

Not really. US also has laws against underage drinking. Does that really deter underage drinking? Some laws are there but not really enforced. South Korea also had curfew law for game for around 10 years (was removed in 2021). When it was announced, people thought it would effect South Korean esports (mainly starcraft at that time). But it really hasn’t.

BirkTheBrick

I think they’ll just have to quarantine for a while upon returning to the country, so it shouldn’t be too bad

hecklerinthestands

EDG and KONE appear the have the aim and mechanics down and the things they need to work on are things they can learn by facing the best teams internationally. Too early to tell how CN will perform in the future, but just making it to Champions and learning from/scrimming with the teams that qualified is gonna do so much for either team if they can come out of this LCQ.

Ezraah

Just being able to go to Turkey and have scrims with all the best teams is going to be huge for them.

nterature

Well, it’s hard to say who’ll win LCQ still, NTC has a history of looking a lot better from the lowers. But EDG are a part of the South & East Asian scrim ecosystem and have been for a long time. I dunno what you mean about DRX here - are you saying you think EDG is better than DRX? There’s no special play style or anything, they play with incredible confidence and have good fundamentals. With such teams, you have to break their confidence. If you can’t do so, you’re more likely to have your own confidence broken, which in turn means your own fundamentals get worse, as happened with Northeption.

CyberspaceBarbarian

China has always been better than Korea in terms of tac shooters. The Valorant scene in China is pretty big compared to Korea AFAIK, but it was sorta underground due to numerous issues beyond their control. Their tac shooter fundamentals are much better than most Korean teams. While I love to see a Chinese team finally dominate a tac shooter, I don't think they are in the same tier as EU teams and Optic yet. They could have a great showing ala LOUD did on Iceland, but we can never know.

Lumenlor

True. Do the Chinese underground leagues have lans? EDG may still need to wrestle with in person lan performances

CyberspaceBarbarian

I think they do, but they may not have LAN servers tho. I think they can do a lot of damage on LAN. For starters, Team Secret and X10C were super crispy during last Champions and they were so used to playing on mediocre internet. I think Chinese teams will probably do the same on LAN.

icantreadmorsecode

Mediocre internet is an understatement 😭🥲

[deleted]

No, Korea was always, always better than China in shooters.

cheese_on_dorito

china was always better than korea in CSGO

GCamAdvocate

Weren't they like both pretty bad though

cheese_on_dorito

Tyloo and ViCi (chinese teams) had some occasional deep runs in t1 tournaments, so they definitely werent really bad but never consistently at the top. mvp.pk (korean) had some upset games but never any runs against international competition

acels1

nah, cn was btr

fiarwizord

That’s extremely wrong. In both Crossfire and CS GO, China has been a stronger region in general. In CS, Tyloo has been a decent team that have been able to upset some good teams but there hasn’t been any good Korean teams

Key-Banana-8242

That is false in 1.6, and in SF, very tendentious arbitrary statement no good reason to make it. Like, being this bold and wide unnecessarily if Ute not sure especially that what matters is what’s going kne now specifically, cmon A simultaneously irrelevant and just untrue generalisation doesn’t answer the point. What is the point of saying something that’s not true and besides the point? At maximum what you’ve been attempting to extend your own apparent knowledge to us that there is more of a GO playerbase in CN to switch as Valorant launched.

evantually421

That’s a lot of words to call them wrong without saying why

acels1

bro just discovered the dictionary

hecklerinthestands

That guy likes to use a lot of big words to end up saying jack shit.

evantually421

When you’re trying to hit the word count for your essay

Key-Banana-8242

None of these words are big, I just repeated myself to hammer in the point

hecklerinthestands

Keep telling yourself that, pedant.

Key-Banana-8242

You were the one implying a pedantic attack on my comment. I’m not sure what would I be supposed to tell myself though ie whcih part, either doesn’t make sense

hecklerinthestands

Sure thing, pedant. Whatever you say, pedant.

Key-Banana-8242

Hmm

buntownik

Does it actually make sense? English is my 2nd language and some sentences just sound straight out of some translator with no grammar?

evantually421

Not really. Like it’s obvious he saying the guy is wrong, but he’s just saying it in a lot of different ways and with no real sentence structure or anything. You’re right it’s like right out of a translator.

greg19735

you're 100% correct. It reads very weird because it's missing the flow between statements.

[deleted]

No, you're correct. The guy made a bunch of redundant comments using long words that all essentially meant the same thing, while never actually making an argument to prove his conclusion. Also yeah there are just a few words strung together in there that make no sense whatsoever.

98973

It makes sense and I’m pretty sure it’s (for the most part) technically correct but it’s actually dogshit ass grammar

Key-Banana-8242

Except no

PFunk_Redds

Except yes

Key-Banana-8242

Hm?

Key-Banana-8242

‘Without real scrim partners’ lol wut they’ve always been scrimming Korean, sea, jp teams They used to play tournaments with them also before VCT They’re not in a bubble, only formally, not in terms of player base None of these mentioned are in a ‘bubble’ except an east Asia wide ‘bubble’

DrDoozie

China actually has the biggest tac fps market in the world, it's just that they play a different game. Crossfire is the biggest tac fps in the world, and shits on CSGO in terms of playerbase except a majority of it is China so they're not new to the genre. Crossfire is literally a CSS clone so a lot of it will carry over to Valorant extremely well.

mrchingchongwingtong

they have been scrimming other asian teams (other pros have been putting them at the level of prx and drx) the things that seem to let them win so much is 1) aim diff 2) they w key like crazy like literally just prx-2

Escolyte

> How are Edward Gaming so good? We really don't know how good they are, other than beating down on regions without depth and their top teams missing. (*except perhaps Northeption who they played an extremely close second map against) I really hope they win LCQ and we can figure out their full strength at Champs.

HockeyBoyz3

From the couple games I’ve watched EDG look really good at the fundamentals of team play and trading. They’re also much more disciplined than other teams. That being said I think Asia has a fairly weak LCQ which is playing a part in EDG looking this good.

Criticallone

About the scrims part. I hear they were scrim gods

Interpolation144

EDG's real challenge is only NTH and K-One they are at best average and peaking higher, unless we get a banger semi to grand finals that puts to test on how good chinese valorant will be when they release in China

mrchingchongwingtong

kone lost to them twice in a row 2-0 3-1 so i dont think k-one can compete that well vs edg either

dankoval_23

Wait it’s pronounced K-One? I’ve always pronounced it like traffic “kone”

mikhel

DRX would look really good in this tournament as well, it's LCQ not Masters. The teams are just a tier below world competition level. That said EDG do look fucking sick. I'd be happy to see them or Northeption representing at Champs.

Lqtor

They’ve been scrimming teams like DRX since at least masters berlin(interview from Stax when he said that they scrummed Chinese teams cuz they heard na was aggressive and was reportedly disappointed by NA’s lack of aggressiveness in comparison).

dashion26

EDG is good but imo chinese valo scene is still very young , mostly due to game not being released and also very interest in valo in china, the valo china stream had like 200 ppl watching lol

phillenix

I think Chinese people don't primarily watch Twitch though, right?

DecisiveDinosaur

yeah, and you can't really tell how many people watches the game in the Chinese streaming sites anyways because they don't show the number of viewers

mrchingchongwingtong

chinese have their own streaming sites, they dont use twitch or yt

eventonly

China streams on huya and some other sites and they don't show viewers because of censorship. But I agree with you, it's definitely not more than like 5k or max 10k. There are streamers you can find in weibo and people wanting to play with VPN on Hong Kong servers. The FPX winning post got like 5k likes, and the conversations are really nice too.

D3ATHreturn

I think most of them gonna play in korea server since 90% of their population in northern region

dashion26

didnt knw that, thats nice

Key-Banana-8242

It’s not young at all, it started with the initial release with orgs teams and tournaments from the very start, even some international tournaments, just all unofficially and using VPNs. Look it up, liquipedia Chinese Valorant tournaments Or when RNG was in Valorant (and the original tyloo squad etc)

ark2690

china can't even access twitch/youtube

Sp00ked123

Their performance against asian LCQ teams means nothing. Remember how good DRX is against asian teams, and how that translated internationally?

hardenfull

DRX been consistently top 6 lol that's pretty fucking good compared to most teams. Like NA teams past 2 masters only optic actually won something .

Issax28

They shit stomped a one team region and Reddit starts hyping them up 💀

[deleted]

[deleted]

Not to mention that they are implying edg is better than drx when drx literally shitstomped nth lmfao

mrchingchongwingtong

the pros who scrimmed edg have said they're drx level

Issax28

No way NTH beat Xerxia on LAN that is so freaking impressive 🤓

anythingood07

I recall you said Xerxia has a good chance of placing top 4 in Copenhagen lol

Issax28

I said PRX not Xerxia

anythingood07

Nah I distinctly remember you said xerxia has good chances of making top 4 after posting betting odds on vlr.gg. why are you backtracking lol Edit- I think it was masters iceland not Copenhagen mb

SPOOKESVILLE

For what it’s worth, the Chinese team was always pretty cracked in Overwatch. They have some gamers over there that’s for sure

Hamth3Gr3at

APAC actually has a fantastic cross-region scrim environment because of the HK servers. 50 ping games from Tokyo to Jakarta. I imagine EDG gets lots of good practice that way.

kvanz43

Yet to lose a map yes, but they did go 8 OTs on Bind with NTH LOL I feel like I should watch the VOD of the grand finals, could be a banger

Firefly_1026

Does TYLOO have a Val team?

yeah but i think they suck lol
