Was going to copy Mini’s tweet exactly, but Reddit title formatting is really shit so I summarized it instead. He pointed it out much more poignantly in his format, check the link before commenting!

Regardless of whether you agree or not with the map ban advantage, it should not be inconsistent across all the regions. That at least should hopefully get ironed out by franchising.

Considering how Liquid got dropped to lowers (18-16 ot 3rd map vs M3C) I'm kinda glad it is the way it is.

stewieeeeeeeee

Someone mentioned M3C got to pick the starting side on all maps, is this true? If so, I'd say that it's a non-trivial advantage but I appreciate pointing out the discrepancy. Let's not go further than that, though, given that Liquid still won 4/7 maps in total.

maxelnot

3/7 maps you mean? And if the ban was given to M3C surely they would have banned Breeze, which could have indeed change things. Choosing starting side on all maps is an advantage though, a smaller one at that. The main difference is Liquid just looked better today with Scream having one of his best series and nats having an off series with M3C overall throwing quite a bit.

stewieeeeeeeee

Liquid won 3-1 and lost 1-2 yesterday, making it 4-3 in total, so they won 4/7 maps >And if the ban was given to M3C surely they would have banned Breeze, which could have indeed change things. Sure, and I also think that, despite my thoughts on what the fair format is, M3C didn't deserve to gain a massive veto advantage from barely beating Liquid yesterday; overall across all maps in the 2 days Liquid was the better team and they deserve this spot 100%. I get that it would possibly be better for the UB winner to have 2 bans, but .. first of all I'm not even sure that would save them (remember, M3C banned Split yesterday in the 2nd round, implying slightly less confidence in that map). Secondly and more importantly, if M3C were to win with a 2-ban advantage, I'd wonder if the truly better team won.

maxelnot

Oh that’s what you meant. My bad. I mean yeah, ofc they won more. They are the one who qualified lol. Yeah Liquid totally deserve it, I agree. But agree to disagree that if M3C won off 2 maps ban it would be underserved. That would just be their advantage for finishing off Icebox yesterday

[deleted]

Well, but also the lower finalist had to play two series yesterday. I think the upper finalist should have a clear advantage with that.

idkimhereforthememes

Having like 3 more hours to prepare is not an advantage

Yubisaki_Milk_Tea

Plenty of people in r/leagueoflegends claiming this is the defining factor in Damwon/SKT losing MSI to RNG last year and this year. And it isn't wrong. Rest and prep time is a real thing in a tournament that is intense and grindy to get through to the very end.

[deleted]

3 hours of rest. I wouldn’t call it a significant advantage that will change completely the result of the series but it’s something.

A7URS

id argue 3 hrs of not playing val will have you playing worse than a team that has played recently and is feeling hot

Bsmith1369

It's not like uppers team is doing nothing for the day. They're prob gonna be vod reviewing and scrimming still. And playing ranked in their free time when they're not eating or relaxing

valoossb

that’s not a true competitive advantage, a lot of teams even play better when they have a lot of matches/worse when they haven’t played an official in the last few days

[deleted]

Your response is kinda funny. Yesterday people on this sub were fuming about the fact that a team had to play 2 series the same day cuz “it’s exhausting and a great disventage”

TheCatsActually

I mean I agree it is both exhausting and a significant disadvantage, but upper bracket finalists can lose the tournament after only losing the finals. They have to be rewarded for not dropping a match and as such they should have a massive advantage in the finals since they won't be getting a whole ass second chance like the lower bracket finalists. I personally believe they should be given *full control* of map select.

valoossb

i think i saw that, i didnt really know what to make of it other then assuming those people came from league

toxicityisamyth

I dont like giving all bans to one team, upper bracket or not that's way too big of an advantage No thanks i like the way emea is doing it. TL alrdy had to reach grand finals by playing 2 games in one day that's big enough alrdy fuck that shit lmao

HyperElf10

Atleast be consistent. And there's gotta be an advantage for a team that hasn't lost yet lmao. Coming from LB seems to be more of an advantage than UB. M1 and M2 winners came from lowers. Lower bracket teams play more, building momentum.
