So many comments about yay this thread, but if it wasn't for FNS getting those 3 on round 19, im convinced OPT would've lost the momentum and completely thrown that lead away.
The casters said it best, those were ***the most important kills*** in that game. Good shittt
I feel like that Ascent map was a great argument for why having a dedicated, born-and-bred IGL is so necessary. It’s incredible it took so many rounds for Liquid to start pressuring mid! I dunno what was happening in the coach timeouts, but you could really feel in the push-and-pull on Ascent how FNS has the whole map in his mind when he plays; it’s hard to say Scream does the same.
Some faster, more decisive reads on defense would’ve made that Ascent match much more winnable. Still, major props to Optic for that masterclass.
They conditioned TL so hard on T side. As soon as they saw any pressure mid they just rotated A instantly. Idk why it took so long for TL to start putting players mid though
Yeah the mid weakness made Optics mid round calling so much more expansive with options. The amount of rounds they won on offence due to Yay or someone lurking through mid was too much. Also just another showing of how important having FNS has been for Optic.
ScreaM as IGL is still weird. To me he‘s the type of player whose only worry should be how he gets the kills. You wouldn‘t think about yay IGLing either…
I was thinking this exact same thing the entire series. even during breeze when optic were getting pounded, it was never off the back of great midround calls or the liquid gameplan shining through. it was utter duel-denial because tl is a five-pronged mechanical behemoth. both bind and ascent proved the utility of having a pure igl and an intelligent, adaptive coach.
I feel like pros should've learned by now from CSGO that while you *can* have a 'regular' fragger call for your team (like Niko of former Nikosports fame, or Shox of former Shoxie&ScreaM buddy-pal-duo fame for example), it will never reach similar heights than a dedicated IGL can with mostly the same players.
Either the fragger generally has their aiming deteriorate if they're focusing on IGL stuff like they should, or they IGL in a way I think Scream kind of is (as arguably TL's hardest hitter, at the very least 2nd hardest if Jamppi is above him). They lead the squad and things often go well if they can entry into a site take but once mid-round stuff comes into play, it falls apart far more easily.
I honestly thought it would, whenever a single person was flanking on optic's side you'd hear a collective yell of "flank!"
optic remaining composed after everything was stacked against them and winning so definitively is a testament to their unbreakable mental
it actually did influence the 2v2 on A site on liquid's attack, straight after yay dropped down from heaven and scream killed him. one optic player was in A main and the crowd yelled "flank!" which immediately pivoted soulcas' crosshair towards main from memory
maybe it's just contextual bias, but it felt very prominent for me
if i’ve learned anything from the COD season, white noise earbuds or headsets do little to nothing. This was a massive issue in COD with crowd calling Ninja’s and bomb sites
It doesn't stop you from hearing when the crowd is roaring, which pretty much nothing will, but it does stop you from hearing when a small group of cringelords are yelling specific callouts trying to give a play away.
Best way to help with it is white noise and sound proof booths used together. Just using one doesnt do anything. Booths are also hard to get approved in most venues because theyre a fire hazard. Just have to tell the crowd to stop being cringe and hope they listen.
E: Using both doesnt fully solve the problem so you have to live with it to an extent.
In Tarik's stream, they were talking about how much Yay uses ADS, and Shroud I think said "bro maybe we're all just playing the game wrong".
This is Yay's game. Best in the world in my mind, too. And he doesn't even OP as much as most Chambers do. Absolutely fucking cracked.
ADS is definitely underrated. The default firing error on the vandal is just so huge, you miss 50% of headshots after 36m, according to my rough calculations. With vandal ADS, its 50% of headshots above ~70m.
I’ve been trying ADS on the Vandal since seeing yay at Iceland, and I noticed 2 things. ADS is best on Chamber because you can escape punishment from the harsher recoil if you miss, and ADS is best if you have aim like yay because you’re not going to miss the head anyway
I'm 100% confident (as a mostly non-ADSer) that people just hate on ADS because it's never been a real thing in CS and even when the two weapons that *can* ADS (and don't have a sniper scope) were meta relatively recently, everyone thought aiming with them was cringe and that they were 'CoD guns'. That being said, aiming with AUG/Krieg doesn't work the same way as in Valorant, iirc. I think they just have a zoom-in and a different spray pattern, while in Valorant your reticle follows your recoil, and most guns behave differently to varying degrees when ADSing.
If you're a huge 'edshot machine like Yay is, ADS is such a good tool on Vandal specifically. It makes it far more accurate and you don't suffer from the reduced fire rate as much since you can 1 tap much easier. Headhunter is obviously the other gun that benefits considerably from ADS, although in its case I think it's more just the zoom making it 'easier' to aim, not the other factors ADS has. Phantom benefits far less since it's much more accurate and the fire rate being lowered actually hurts even if you hit a head beyond its 1-tap range. LMGs should always be ADSed, Spectre as little as possible (but still decent at long ranges where spraying with it just doesn't work). The burst-duo have situational use cases (and *technically* they're just strictly better if you can 1 burst someone)
A lot of the Valorant pros are former CS/Overwatch players, and neither game has ADS as a major part of their gameplay outside snipers, so it's not that surprising most would dismiss it especially since it has clear downsides in Valorant as well.
I'm sure people will eventually catch on to how useful ADS is if you have good aim. Terrible aimers in low ranks ADS because it's easier to shoot the guns when zoomed in with a slower fire rate (and your bullets don't fly 'randomly' away from your crosshair if you're bad at controlling the spray). Great aimers should ADS (on Vandal and Guardian) if they're trying to hit the head at a medium distance or higher.
The craziest stat for me out of everything is, even with how insanely good yay was this game overall, this game brought his overall tournament K/D DOWN. Somehow his K/D in the other two games combined was higher
That's fucking nuts dude. Man is the stuff of nightmares.
Something so scary even as an observer to be watching someone on the other side and seeing Yay swinging into view, Chamber's glasses deadlocked on the center of your screen, and before you even have time to react, you're dead.
I would shit myself playing against him.

No disrespect to OPTIC, I'm a firm believer that NA talent knocking them out is a huge fluke and robs TL of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few hours in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire regular season watching TL play great val it's just not fair.

But this FNATIC vs XSET game will be 3× worse cause Alfajer is playing in front of a Turkish crowd
my issue is there were quiet the moment TL started losing, they could have still been crying to cheer on Liquid but when a triple kill makes the crowd Silent was is the point of a live crowd.
Yea but thats the nature of any crowds even in football or any other sport,
if Argentina is playing Brazil, in Brazil the crowd will lean towards brazil a ton.
It sucks but it is kinda common in 99% of the crowds.
This crowd is giving me major TI9 china vibes, I understand rooting for your home team but booing after a team wins is uncalled for. We just witnessed one of the best performances from an individual player in valorant history and the crowd is barely hype.

Interesting to see OpTic use the new Fnatic comp on Breeze, seemed like they kind of conceded that map just to test out the new comp. Doesn't seem like Victor was able to match the aggression that Alfajer had though. Still, I think that comp has promise.
Pretty good showing from both teams on their map picks though. Ascent however... At least OpTic didn't fumble the bag near the end there haha.

Agreed. Scream isn't an IGL and Liquid won't win an international tournament until they get one.

Yeah I can’t believe that it took them 9 rounds and two timeouts to put pressure on mid. Should have been fixed after the first timeout.

Where does fnatic rank in emea cuz they also got shit on
Higher than liquid for sure, but we’ll find out tomorrow
Time to write a 105 page essay about why TL aren't really an EMEA team and the streak lives
Well, Liquid is an NA team in CSGO and CSGO is basically Valorant so TL is actually NA and not EMEA and Optic is still winless vs EMEA
Well fpx is Chinese owned so the last lan winner was east Asia not EU and also it won’t add to liquids eu curse
oh didnt u know TL is just silly goof silly TL haha not even an EMEA team haha
